Collegues,
I wonder how to build latest linux kernel from off site for Android device (for example Nexus7)?
I have:
AOSP source code
Android build for device (from aosp)
Downloaded kernel 3.8.4 from off site
The question is:
How can I build latest kernel using all described stuff (aosp source, kernel config, latest kernel)?
Thanks!
Ilya.

Hi. I bought NFS: MW few days ago and it was running fine on sammy's stock 4.1.2. I decided to flash custom rom to get better performance, but the game freezes my phone shortly after starting the race. Audio is stuck as well and I can only turn it off by holding power or removing the battery. Those are the roms I tried so far, it freezes on all of them the same way.
Cyanogen 10.1 - nightly (latest) (CM's kernel)
Cyanogen 10.1 - nightly (latest) + Dorimanx 9.41
CM-10.1.3-i9100 (stable) - default kernel
CM-10.1.3-i9100 (stable) - Dorimanx 9.41
Sentinel Rom 4.80 (default kernel)
Sentinel Rom 4.80 + Dorimanx 9.34
Sentinel Rom 4.80 + Dorimanx 9.41
I tried turning on Force GPU Rendering and I tried "Disable HW overlays" in dev. options. Any other ideas?
This is called "The Mali Bug" . All CyanogenMod ,and ROMs based on that have it.That means on heavy GPU load, like NFS,it will simply freeze,no matter what kernel you are using. All CM 10,1 and 10.2 are bugged.Your options are:
- go back to stock 4.1.2 ROM,or stock based
- use an older CyanogenMod (CM 10 and older doesn't have this problem.)
- Carbon ROM is the only non stock based ROM without Mali bug.You can try it.
Some ROMs have a base code to programming, TouchWiz per example give support to Samsung apps, and this apps can't run on other ROMs. In case of heavy games like NFS, which have a specific programation to use all HD potencial of the hardware, they may use this base to make game run faster and clean. Maybe this explain why NFS can't run in custom ROMs.
I read some ROM threads which said in the post NFS isn't compatible when someone ask about game compatiblity...
Sorry about any mistakes if i wrote something wrong. English isn't my natural language
Thank you for letting me know about "The Mali Bug". I will try Carbon ROM since I am already flashing/wiping and if I don't like it I'll get back on stock.

tel sony xperia z3 dual
any advice
Hello, I have recently moved from stock JB to Omnirom on S2. I tried to search but couldn't find. So would appreciate if someone could give me link for kernels compatible with omnirom (apart from the default kernel it comes with). I do have link for Gustavo_s's files for S2: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=12345
I used it for flashing omnirom. Now which all kernels would work with omnirom, if someone could provide me with links?
Bump!!!
Instead of naming kernels, I will suggest you use the best kernel compatible with all KitKat ROMs for the I9100 (OmniRom 4.4 as well). Try using Dorimanx Kernel v10 9.43v96 as some users reported that the kernel is stable for daily use and included several hardware customization. Definitely, Gustavo_s kernel is good and runs OmniRom real good, but Dorimanx kernel is a beast.
Ok so i have a lg g2 rooted using CM 11 Nightly (6/16/14 nightly) and i was wondering if the kernel Dorimanxs KK Kernel would work for that CM and the kernel is version 4.8.1 because that kernel version supports knock code since cm also supports knock code. So my question is just if that CM 11 would work for that Kernel.
Edit: Never Mind flashed the kernel and works fine
I want to build cm11 for the T-Mobile Sidekick 4g primarily for compatibility with newer apps, but before that I was told that I'd first need to build a kitkat compatible kernel. I have read on how to build kernels, apply patches, tweaks, and modules, but I haven't seen anything about what makes a kernel android version specific. I have an HTC HD2 flashed with Tytung's nexushd2 cm based roms and on his list of roms he has used his same custom kernel on both jelly bean and kitkat roms. So my questions are;
1. is there any other way to make newer apps like hangouts and stock nexus 5 dialer (because of native sip integration) compatible with older versions of android (froyo)?
2. what makes a kernel android version specific?
3. what would I have to do to make a sidekick kernel compatible with cm11?
4. would the cm guide here automatically build a cm11 compatible kernel? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
5. is there any way to update sidekick 4g stock rom source?
6. if I build using Google AOSP source would the rom that is built be a nexus-like rom?
