[Q] lost root - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What is the easiest way to get it back? I did make a twrp recovery at the beginning. Only thing I did was let a few apps update. Guess that will do it? So can I just wipe and reload? Many thanks in advance.

darn it. no backup logs in twrp...
I guess I never made a back up. so I will have to redo I guess. ?

I guess I'm talking to myself. Lol. Can I do a factory reset and do a re root? It's unlocked so maybe wipe it out. Reflash... anyone

If you have a custom recovery just re flash the super user zip and that should give you root. Or flash a pre rooted ROM.

Just reflash Superuser.

Well I just did a flash. All good now. Is there certain apps that will dump you off root. Say Google wallet? Thanks all.

Clearing caches helps root to stick. Otherwise, you might lose root again upon your next restart.
But that's only in some cases.

None to my knowledge. Since your back up and running make a nandroid asap. That way if it occurs again you can just restore your nand.

Let me rephrase my question.... Any apps that can NOT be UPDATED. .? It seems to have lost root after a few updates to apps.

I'm a little confused as well. Updating apps should have no effect on keeping/losing root privileges.

I seemed to have had root access, then I updated about 7 apps, one of which was super su. I am rolling with an older version cause the newer version would not let me use free wifi app. So I went back to cwsw99 and Is finfine, when updated the app, all aps ncluding su I lost root. Maybe a coincidence. ?

gosh, lol.
I didn't thank my question was too hard lol. I had root access and then I updated apps and then I lost root access right after. maybe it is just a coincidence but 1 of them was super su. That got updated.
when I originally rooted my phone I accidentally took the latest ota, right b4 i rooted it, now i have to be s-on. I am on 2.09 hboot, running stock 3.15.651.16. Also, the cwsuv99 worked great, but said bianarys out of date. Updated the su app to super Su and was still rooted but no more
wi-fi. So I went back to cwmv99, and I now have wifi again, that's all I want.
Than, back to my op..... lol I had a bunch of app updates and I went ahead and updated. Noticed right after my wifi didn't work. But more importantly, lost root.
Now I have root back, running the older, outdated su, cwmv99, so my wifi works. All is well right now however I just seen there is a new ota out lol. I will not take it !!. Any one know what it does? The newest ota?
Sorry to confuse. I just want my wifi with no additional charge lol, I pay my carrier enough already.

Updating your apps should not cause you to loose root. However if you let the playstore update all of your apps then more than likely you had a update to su. Since su is an system app then the play store probably pushed an update on top of the su system app. This might have caused your issue. "Might"
Su is one an app that "imo" should not be updated threw the play store. Also when you say your "wifi" stopped working your referring to wifi tether I believe. So posting your wifi stopped working is kinda misleading lol when your referring to wifi tether. Also what current rom are you on ?? There's a mod you can do to get the native hotspot working without the app.

Am I not doing something right because I can't get into CWM? I'm rooted of course and used Rom Manager to install CWM. While in RM I hit Reboot into Recovery but my system just reboots like normal.
Do I have to be unlocked for CWM to work? If not what is the trick I'm missing?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I couldn't find it.
Thanks,

Vipermod is just root. To unlock you have to download the unloker from Asus. Once you do that and activate the unlocker you can't lock it back up and void the warranty for good. I'm surprised at that since CWM works fine on my DroidX and it's bootloader is locked up tighter than this is.

Were you rooted before .21? Cuz Viper cant root .21 for now, it may look like it did but when you to use app like Titanium backup it will show if your not

Need help with Unroot please...

I rooted my evo using Revolutionary S-off. Not sure about this whole hboot thing so if someone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. I was running meanRom and everything was fine, but outta nowhere, the capacitive buttons started acting up. They only work sometimes now. Originally thought it was the rom so I switched to ICS rom and still experiencing this issue periodicily. I would like Sprint to take a look at it, but obviously I wont be covered under warranty if I bring them the device rooted. Any help is truly appreciated....TIA!

[Q] Question about 20f OTA issues (T-mobile 769)

I have a 769 on T-mobile, Jellybean 20d. I haven't been able to successfully update to 20f using the OTA (red icon). I realize there's an upgrade file to update manually with CWM, but after reading about the various issues, I'd really rather let the OTA take care of it. I've read through the forums and done the following things before trying the OTA...
1.) Remove all links and uninstall link2SD
2.) Uninstall busybox
3.) Unfreeze all bloatware
...but it still fails as soon as it starts a system check:
"file "/system/bin/debuggerd" doesn't have any of expected sha1 sums; checking cache"
Unless someone has more suggestions on how to "fix" my phone for the OTA, I'm thinking of trying either:
1.) Offline Lelus method, reflash 20d with root, OTA
2.) Offline Lelus method, downgrade to 10g with root, OTA
Anyone have recommendations on anything to try to get the OTA to work without flashing? If not, should I reflash to 20d or revert back to 10g?
Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't be uninstalling busy box... It'll mess everything up. And have you deleted any bloatware? That will interfere with the update... If you want to force the update the do the following trick.. Go to settings>apps then slide to the "All" tab and look for Google services framework and tap that. Then clear data>force stop>clear data. Do that for 3-4 times. After that reboot your phone and do the trick again once and check for update.

General consensus on the forums which I already searched through for hours state that link2sd and busybox need to be removed or else the OTA will fail due to changes in build.prop. I already stated I searched the forums and followed several posts. First of all, I attempted the update before uninstalling busybox, and yep, I got the red icon. I attempted the update each time after removing anything related to root. I also already stated I unfroze all the bloatware, meaning I didn't delete anything. Also I'm well aware of the trick to force OTA.
In any case, you made a lot of assumptions that were not correct, and you were rude to boot. That said, I still appreciate your reply. Guess I'm a sucker.

I unfroze everything. I assumed the OTA would want everything in default form, meaning no frozen applications.
Also, be sure to completely uninstall the locked bootloader cwm. (If that is you installed it)

No, I didn't install any cwm after installing jellybean; I did have a copy when I was on ICS, but I removed it before the upgrade (OTA). I'm guessing that while I was messing around with applications, I probably downloaded something that modified the build.prop.
I'll go ahead and flash the v20d kdz and try the OTA again, I don't see any posts that recommend going back to v10g.
Thanks for the replies, I'll post again if it works or not just to give this thread closure.

Still status 7, debuggered etc even without unfreezing those two apks.
I went ahead and flashed v20d with root / busybox, stupidly forgot to load up Voodoo before update, and ended up with 20f no root. Tried Jcase apk twice, but didn't work likely since I already had remnants of SuperSU. Can't remove, can only revert to a previous version. *facepalm*
Flashed v20d stock (no root) and completely uninstalled SuperSU.
Repeated v20d with root / busybox, root was not successful, although busybox installed, so the kdz procedure was correct. Tried Jcase apk twice again. Failed the first time, succeeded the second time. Didn't stupidly forget to load up Voodoo, updated to 20f, restored root, and done.
I certainly made that harder than it had to be, but nevertheless: :victory:
Thanks for the advice!

Flashed newest TrickDroid ROM, not rooted anymore?! Help please!

Hey guys,
So I decided to flash the newest TrickDroid ROM (ver 11.0, I believe), and for whatever reason, my phone is telling me it isn't rooted anymore. I made a backup of all my data using Titanium, but I don't believe I made a Nandroid backup. SuperUser is saying that is needs to update the su binary, but I get an error when I try to update. Titanium can't do anything because it doesn't have root access.
I have VERY limited knowledge about this stuff and I really am not sure what to do. Please help! And thank you!

Go to the download section and choose the third option which is the link to flashable zips on his website. Go ahead and download the latest version, I believe it's 1.65 at the moment. Then just flash it in recovery, no need to wipe your data or anything.
See if that helps, should restore your root.

Thanks! Another problem (and this might require a new topic), it seems like every time I try to uninstall apps via tibu, when I restart my phone ALL of those apps come back. Most of them are HTC apps, but some aren't. I've uninstalled them 4 times now and they KEEP COMING BACK. It's very odd.
Also, I received an error (also in tibu) mentioning my Device ID had changed? I had it change it back, but perhaps this is related to the issue?

I'm a complete n00b to rooting and have been trying to find an answer to the same question before diving in. I have looked through tons of info, including the 2 threads posted in responses, but can't seem to get a clear answer as to whether these methods work for 2.07... There seems to be a lot of conflicting reports. Would love to know if you confirm that either of these work.
May have answered my own question
It looks like there are further reports of moonshine working on 2.07.

I'm going to give it a try tonight and will report back here.
I haven't seen anything about unlocking or rooting on 2.07, only s-off. I have a new DNA being shipped out thanks to my warranty, but I really don't want to go back to 4.1 after being on 4.3 for a few great months!

Yep, sorry for mixing up unlocking and rooting with s-off. I just thought getting s-off would better for a n00b like me as it seems to make the custom ROM / kernel process a bit more straight forward.

I tried last night and ran into a few problems and then ran out of time. Got an error along the lines of [can't obtain temproot] during one of the moonshine steps... This may be due to the fact that I did not factory reset before moonshining. I will try again this evening (after factory reset).
Do you know I should go through the normal phone set-up after the factory reset? Or just reset then dive into moonshine?
Thanks!

Thanks for the offer! I was actually able to flash twrp and a custom ROM. It was much easier than I originally anticipated. My eyes are now open to a whole new world... Not sure I'll ever be able to go back to a stock Stock/manufacturer ROM.
Now running ViperDNA 2.0.1. I picked Viper as it sounds like this is one of the most stable/least buggy ROMs out there right now (plus it runs fine on the stock kernel). Do you have any other suggested ROMs for the DNA?

Thanks for the offer! I was actually able to flash twrp and a custom ROM. It was much easier than I originally anticipated. My eyes are now open to a whole new world... Not sure I'll ever be able to go back to a stock Stock/manufacturer ROM.

I too just had success with Moonshine. Just literally got my DNA, previous owner took the OTA. First time failed at "temproot", second time ran flawless.

Well, still troubleshooting some things. Successfully had root access and using the correct settings I could run wireless tether fine. I then proceeded to backup then install viper Rom. Set everything up fine however nothing I tried would get tether going. So I restored my backup (tether is a must) and still same issue. It starts but I cnt connect which is strange as I was using it fine earier.
So now I did a factory reset and flashed superuser, now tether won't start. Says "started with errors" using the exact same settings. So I'm going to try flashing the stock ota deodedex Rom see if that solves it.

Well, I can 100% confirm that moonshine works for 2.07. It took several tries (4 to be exact, with factory reset between each), but I am now s-off! Woohoo! Now on to flashing twrp, and my first try at a custom ROM.

Windows (Vista believe it or not...). Make sure you have the correct device drivers installed first, and uninstall HTC Sync.
