I bought an Xperia Sola online recently, since the day i relieved it, i am trying to update it. I tried all methods possible and also the ones suggested by the Xperia care. When I checked online, it says my device should be running software version 6.1.1.B.*, i.e. ICS but by all methods tried, it says my device is up to date. Currently running gingerbread software version 6.0.B.3.814.
Please help. I do not want to root my device or run any custom ROM. I want to update to ICS Xperia.

Did you unlock your bootloader? Can't officially update with an unlocked bootloader.

Warranty maybe void only if you unlock bootloader or root.
So flashing ftf will not,I guess.

here you go
yes you can . but the update is end off may/ begin june 2012
you need a pc and offical sony pc software from there web site
to update the the phone to ics 4.0
please bear in mind the update will wipe your root off
so if you downgrade back to 2.3.4 you have to root again

No, you don't have to unroot, but bootloader has to be locked.

If you have rooted .58, make update directly from your phone via 3G or WiFi to .62. Make sure bootloader is locked.

Here's an excellent tutorial.

I had to install the generic .58 version from that tutorial in order to get the OTA update tho.
Good luck.

Just a question.
Does the Testpoint method to unlock the bootloader works on a Mini (St15i) when I'm on ICS (stock)?
Or do I need to use official method?
Thanks

Rom is not important... Just try it.l When you get an error saying ": qcReceivePacket: can't get packet start" you can not use testpoint method due to new security by Sony.
So basically I should either use official method or downgrade to GB to be sure that it works?

I unlocked bl and flashed custoom kernel taday and after first boot there was an update notification to .184. But my build number IS .184.....
?????????!!!?
It also says i will need computer/pc companion to do the update....
Since bootloader is unlocked i can not do the update...
Sent from my MT27i using xda app-developers app
that is normal.
You can't make official Updates from Sony with a unlocked bootloader. If you want to have the official updates you have to relock your bootloader
The kernel you flashed is of an older firmware hence the notification. Freeze update center using titanium and the notification will be gone.
Edit: It generally happens when a custom kernel is used.

The kernel that you are using is built from the source release of an older kernel for Sola n hence the notification to upgrade it..
So dun worry it's normal...
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium

Yep Even I deleted Update Center. Its pretty much useless now that your bootlocker is unlocked,
Id say its mandatory to delete updatecenter

Please see the rooting guide by me, there's a how to root these devices
Yes, you can still update your device but the root privilege would be gone as you update your device 'cause it re-flashing a new stock firmware.
To update to ICS, you can use SEUS or PC Companion.
Ofcourse my man.....rooting does not have anything to do wid upgrading.....unlike unlocking ur BOOTLOADER.....so headsup...all u gotta do is re-root ur device..after the upgrade..... r untick wipe data for retaining root access... in flashtool if tats wat u r using....

Root doesn't matter, only the bootloader is the matter... If it is unlocked, you cannot install any updates directly... You will have to download the ftf file of the firmware and flash it using flaah to
