I could certainty appreciate your standpoint if say, I bricked my device trying to root it.
Considering the power button broke (and my phone has NEVER been dropped) I dont think it's fair that they refuse to fix a hardware problem because I used my device as it was built to be used.

It's a development question I presume, not general, not accessory related, not theme/app related either so guess it fits neither the above...guess it could be question related but than I might have gotten a smart reply like I'm getting now, so took my chances of posting here...why don't you tell me where I should've posted this question? guess you're smarter, but I assume since you couldn't tell me in your previous smart ass post you really don't know do you...hahaha.

Here, ill actually answer your question instead of jumping on the bandwagon here.
No there hasnt yet been a method figured out for resetting the flash counter. Many people have tried the jig method, as i have myself. Jig works for dl mode but no reset as you saw yourself. I know there is a few devs at least with this on their mind so give it time as our phone is still very new. Dont worry about the flash counter with at&t, myself as well as many others here have exchanged notes through at&t with flash counters in double digits with no probs, however if you try to warranty through samsung you may run into some probs.
hope that helps.

I just "updated" my Galaxy Note by using Odin to install the new leak 4.0.4 and was wondering if somebody could point me in the best direction for rooting my device. Not a "noob" but I'm new to Samsung in general. I don't want to brick my device or possibly mess it up in any way. Also I would like to be able to install further releases of leaked roms and root again. Any advice and information would be helpful. Thank you

You are respectfully asked to read the stickies that answer your dumb question
as far as i know you need to flash clockworkrecovery odin version, after that you can use cwm to flash superuser file that will give you root. read "official" leak thread, it has been covered few times.
Thank you. Figured that would be the response lol I'll do that

Everything begins with ODIN. Flash Leak thru ODIN then flash CWM recovery thru ODIN. Then download the SU 307.zip and flash thru CWM. That is all you need to do to root your phone. You should be able to do everything in less than 15-20mins.

Pretty much any method is fairly streamline now. There's a root toolkit that does all the work for you, all you have to do is enter in a number that relates to the command when you run it. Be certain you are using the proper root method for your carrier and follow all instructions carefully.
Tripping the flash counter happens when you flash your recovery via odin. It triggers the built in counter in download mode to show that you have "tampered" with the device, and therefor can be refused warranty work. To avoid this, use either ADB through command line, or terminal emulator.
I usually don't post this..... but.....

I agree that there is a lot of posts all over the place but to all fairness, there is posts in this same section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722344 that shows you exactly what to do to root.
I agree that you NEED TO READ. If you aren't willing to do the research you're going to have an expensive brick instead of an amazing phone running Jelly Bean roms or whatever you choose.
Also, don't just rely on one thread. Read multiple so you see opinions and suggestions.

Don't think it matters if you trip the flash counter any more there's an app to get rid of it Triangle Away. Also be careful many people have Lost there Imei# and now have a very expensive mp3 player. Might be a good idea to wait until they figure out how to back up imei first.

I think it's funny how quick everyone is to tell people to read - When there are likely many threads that you've started that a google search could've solved in 5 minutes. He had plenty of other questions that had nothing to do with how to root his device. Yes reading can help solve most of his issues, but when you have the possibility of turning a 600$ phone completely worthless, it doesn't hurt to ask questions.
Really, get over yourselves.

It is pretty straight forward. Make sure you have the drivers installed before rooting. In short, follow the instructions to the point. If you are worried about tripping your flash counter, there is a specific root method you follow. If you do not care, then you can use the tool kit. If you look through the posts in the development section, you will easily find it. PM me if you need help.
When I plug my phone into computer it finds my device drivers. Will that work or do I have to download them from the link provided?

You have to use adam's unlock and root method first as linked in the above post. That procedure will leave you with TWRP custom recovery on the phone.

Sometimes folks do not have enough current knowledge about a given subject to find the info needed. Glad you got what you needed!!
I did look, but unfortunately it was in the wrong place. When I first got onto this forum I looked in the area that did not have anything about rooting or recovery. So please before you go being all honesty as you put it. Understand that for someone who may not be as smart as yourself. It may be really easy to get turned around in here. And if I'm not mistaken. Isn't this place where people come to get help? Not sarcasm? I'm sorry if my question makes you mad or upset you because I couldn't find the answer without having to ask for help. It makes me wonder how many people got mad at you for the questions that you have asked. Anyway, to those of you that I have not upset, thank you for your help and support... It gets rather tiresome and frustrating to see the same thing asked over and over and over again on a daily basis when the answer is featured prominently in the forum, so don't take it personally. That being said, you would have easily found your answer had you looked at just the first page of this device's general forum. This dead horse has been beaten so much that the mods made a sticky there in order to keep people from asking the same question repeatedly. Additionally, you would have seen that there is a bounty of several thousand dollars waiting for anyone that can get a custom recovery on ME7.
