NEWBIE - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought my sIII like 5 days ago and i`m thinking of flashing a custom rom to my rooted sIII. But i have a question about how to flash the rom. Example, if the Rom that i want to flash say " [ROM][4.1.2] [XXELLA][Sotmax Jelly Bean Ultimate Stock V14] GT-i9300 " do i need to change my firmware to XXELLA before flashing that rom? or at least upgrade my firmware 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. please HELP me i`m confused and btw NEWBIE and still learning to this phone.

First things first, root your phone, install custom recovery and BACKUP!
Only then should you dabble with other things.
No, you don't need to install anything before installing the 4.1.2 ROMs, but a wipe is recommended.
Happy flashing!

So that mean i just have to do a wipe and then flash the rom and not flashing the same firmware example " XXELLA" right?

[SOLVED] I bricked my phone..urgent help needed please..

I updated my sgs2 officially yesterday from ICS to jellybean 4.1.2...it was working good but I lost root...I searched the web to root it again and foung this website..
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100-jelly-bean-android-4-1-14-1-2/
I successfully rooted it but to my bad luck I tapped on the supersu as mentioned in the video demonstration at the website and things went wrong..the supersu asked me whether to start normally or CWM recovery, I opted for CWM recovery...Now my phone is stuck at the yellow triangle..I can go to download mode only...I reflashed the same kernel but in vain...
Please help me to recover my phone as I need it badly...many thanks in advance.
Let me tell you that I leave in middle east and as I remeber it was updated to XXls8 or something.

Do you recommend to flash this rom instead of stock rom? But where from download? And how to flash?
Go back to stock first; it will give you a 'clean slate'. Getting your phone working normally/usable should be your only priority/thought at this stage. You can worry about flashing other roms/kernels once you've done that.

Thanks MistahBungle for your help. From where I should download stock rom and how to flash? Further help will be much appreciated.
Search Samfirmware for an unbranded one for your country (or a carrier-specific one if you prefer/if there isn't an unbranded one). Guides/tutorials are stickied in the General section (3rd post from the top from memory).

Thanks a lot MistahBungle and all who supported me...Thanks God I finally reflashed stock ROM which I downloaded from Samfirmware and it is working well.
May I request all those geeks to guide me to root the easiest way. Further I will request you people to tell me the Best ROM which support RTL...Bundle of thanks.
Good man. You're welcome Easy way to root is to flash the Odin version of any custom kernel which works with Android version of the stock rom you're currently running (Siyah & Dorimanx are but two, there are others); read the thread devoted to the particular kernel you want to flash to work out which build you need to use. Once you flash it you'll have a rooted phone with CWM.
'Best rom' threads are not allowed here; once you have CWM installed it's really easy to flash/try a bunch of roms & find one you like, it takes 5 minutes to backup or restore, if you find you don't like a rom you try, it's easy to go back to your previous setup & try another. Generally if you need things that are a 'bit fiddly' to 'just work' without dramas, you're better off sticking with stock. But you can check the threads of various custom roms to see if they support the features you need to use. You could always dual boot if the particular features you want to use only work with stock, yet you like a particular custom rom & want to use it as a daily driver.

Flash CyanogenMod 10.1 !
Hey, if you have already rooted, I assume you have also installed clockwork mod recovery.
Make sure you have jelly bean kernel installed on your phone.
Then you now need to download custom rom. Personally jelly bam rom is my favorite. It combines the features of cyanogenmod and aokp.
Google "jelly bam" go to their official site, download jelly bam 7.8(their latest rom with Android 4.2.2) or you wanna go for any other rom, go ahead and download it. All roms comes in zip files. Don't extract it, place the zip file in your sdcard, boot the phone in recovery mode(vol up+ home+ power)
Do wipe data/factory reset
Clear cache partitions
Go to advance and clear dalvik cache
Select install from zip, select sd card and choose the rom zip file you have copied and click install. Phone will reboot and you are done!
Sorry if I was too lengthy

You haven't told us which kernel you are using yet. You are not clear about what errors you're getting. There are thousands of threads regarding how to root and install custom rom. You need to check the threads before creating a new one as per the rule of xda.

I have flashed lots of official roms, but i didn't see any important differences between different countries roms... Just some language features...
I'm persian but i flashed MK6 rom that is for Europe, I've got no problem... I can even type Persian...
For 4.3 rom, you've got just few choices and best of them is MK6... The other 4.3 updates have a lots of bugs but MK6 is almost bug free rom...

It`s very safe to flash Jellybean or Kitkat. Download the latest jellybean from sammobile and flash it with odin.. Look around for tutorials how to. Note that you will lose all your data, but your phone will 100% work. That brickbug was only on 4.0.4 version.. To be sure and safe flash jellybean and after that flash PhilZ-cwm6 - Safe Stock Based Kernel. If you need more info, i`ll help you. Cheers!:good:
