[Q] Phone soft bricked - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is not restarting. I am using a Samsung Vibrant T959.
I really love the phone since it a gift from my sister and I hope i can fix it. It had no issues, with a stock 2.1 firmware, but last month I installed ICS on my phone after which I started receiving me errors.I guess the ICS version i installed was not very stable. Usually restarting the phone would fix the problems and I would be good to go. However last evening when I got the error I restarted the phone 2 times but I would still receive the errors. The 3rd time I restarted it, the phone got stuck on the animation screen and did not boot.
I tried the recovery mode and it worked fine.
I took a backup of my data using the USB debugging mode of the phone.
Since I was irritated with this version of ICS i tried to root my phone using Odin.
Odin failed. The phone was stuck on the downloading screen for some time so i disconnected the phone from my computer and now the phone will not start.
It does not boot, it does not go the recovery mode nor the download mode. when I press the power button or the three buttons (volume and power) together the screen shows a mobile phone a computer and a disconnect between the three (phone ! PC screen) .
I do not know how to fix it. Any help on this would be appreciated..

Please help me understand, you were running an ICS ROM so you had to be rooted. What the hell do you mean you tried rooting with Odin?? What files did you run in Odin?

If you are getting a "Phone.. ! ..Computer" image (seen above) when booting phone, yes, you are bricked but it is reversible! Just follow these steps...
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

ODIN should be able to recognize it like that.
Open ODIN up, find the PDA and .pit and connect the phone, see if the yellow COM light pops up.

Kind of adding on to what "theexel" said above, here's my instructions on solving what is known as a "soft brick". Shouldn't be to hard, if at all, and hopefully you should be back to enjoying your Vibrant in a matter of no time...

Oh and yeah, the download mode image doesn't necessarily need to be present. As long as the COM ID is lighting up yellow you should be good.

Or samsung service center...

okay, here's what you do
1. Switch the phone off
2. Hold volume down + menu + power button, until the phone goes into download mode
3. Connect you phone via usb, wait till odin recognizes it (the "COM:" thing turns yellow)
4. Load the pda
5. Flash
If you still don't get it
here's a tutorial video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hwSF65_d26w#t=15s
and make sure you're using the proper pda, the one that is made for your version.

The problem began because he WASN'T using one for his phone. He was attempting to load an I9100 firmware onto his I9100G.
OP, follow this guide: [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked I9100G
And be aware, as sahibunlimited says above; there IS NO ICS for I9100G yet.
Make sure you can enter Download mode ... if yes, then there are some stock ROMs lying around in the Repo! Flash them properly ... and always read/search thoroughly before flashing any stuff ... clearly you're new to all this stuff! Though, happens!
easy solution
just flash a kernel,i had the same problem, flashed a kernel without going to download mode here is link for one:
http://www.mediafire.com/?0nmccnoly0ioqx3
connect your smartphone with pc through usb, then open odin and select the downloaded tar file in pda tab ,dont tick anything else ,then click start, done.your phone will be back.

Help required think i've bricked my phone :(

Hi...
I was playing around with my phone earlier and not playing close attention to what I was doing (nagging wife in background) I decided to flash a new ROM and I didn't notice I flashed a 19100G on my 19100. As I wasn't looking what I was doing something flashed up on the screen and poof! Well now my phone wont start and it stuck on the Galaxy S2 start screen.
I was previously using CM10 and had CWM recovery installed.
Is this a brick or soft brick and how can i fix it?
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you :crying:
can you get back into recovery or download mode
try reboot into download mode.
i once installed something, and after reboot, it wasnt going further than the samsung logo and screen flashes. so wasnt getting into CWM.
only way out was going to download mode, and flash an odin-capable rom. (bizarrely, the rom worked very well with my phone, longer batt life, performance, etc. ..
Download mode:
Power your phone completely off and make sure it isn't plugged in via USB.
While holding the Volume Down rocker and the Home key press and hold the Power Button.
I just got into download mode.
Just downloading an odin capable rom.
Will report back in a little while
Thanks
Okay so I downloaded Odin and a recovery file but when I start Odin I get a yellow box but no numbers?

In ODIN you should choose file in PDA. not PIT.
And you should find the file your looking for here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
if there is only .tar choose pda
other way
phone - pda
csc - csc
modem - phone
edit : btw i think your phone is not bricked.
First of all you are in the wrong thread..And your phone is not bricked..Just follow the instructions given above to use odin to flash a stock Rom. You will be fine
I downloaded I9100XWLPT for UK Europe and used Odin v3.04 and all went okay. Phone is back up and running again now
Thank you so much for your help! I really thought I was frazzled there for a minute lol! That will teach me to flash and not pay attention...next time I will have to make sure the wife isn't around
I guess I am now back on stock and will have to re-root my little baby?
Again thank you for all your help...I went into panic mode for a little bit and my mind got clouded so I could not see a solution. I knew it had to be something so easy.
Very much appreciated :good:
And sorry it's in the wrong section, where should I have posted it? If there is a friendly neighborhood admin around could he please move it to the correct place?
Thank you

Stuck in recovery with Live Demo Unit, please help!

Hey guys,
So recently I got a SM-G928X Live Demo Unit. I just read that flashing G928F firmware is completely fine and so I did aaaaand well, I am stuck in recover. Forgot to flash a custom recovery, also the phone has Factory Reset Protection so I am here with:
Android Recovery
MMB29K.G928FXXU2BPB6
samsung/zenbltexx/zenlte
6.0.1/MMB29K/G928FXXU2BPB6
user/release-keys
volume up/down and power
____________________
then goes normal recovery options
and at the bottom of the screen, there's
Supported API: 3
dm-verity verification failed...
Need to check DRK first...
Anyway I can't get to download mode, cant wipe data, cant flash from ADB/SD Card. When connected to PC no software recognises the device so yeah, that's a great situation to be in, right?
So if any of you have any idea how to make this thingy work again, I'm up for anything.
Aand I'm in the wrong forum right.. Sorry for that
Thanks

Well one thing might still work. You could try and make yourself a download mode dongle. Just google Samsung download mode dongle and try to make one. IIRC all you need is a microUSB plug for the phone and a resistor with a certain resitance (can't recalm the value). Then plug in the microUSB plug and just hold the resistor between two ends of the plug. This should force your phone into download mode and you should be able to flash it again. Good luck!
Edit: found a picture showing you what you need to connect

You can also find Samsung download mode jig dongles pretty cheap on the web. But going to a hardware store and getting a USB connector and a resistor just was the faster way to do it for me.

Phone bricked

Tried to flash an android 11 rom (was already on another android 11 custom rom), phone won't turn on now, only black screen. Holding power button + volume keys will only make the device restart(it disappears and reappears in device manager), so i cant get into fastboot. ADB devices and Fastboot devices won't detect it. In device manager it appears as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.

Tried flashing stock rom in mi flash tool, it either says cannot receive hello packet, or cannot read from port com3.
Now i don't have a phone, so if anyone can try to fix this please help.
Same here. but mine won't even restart, the display is pure black & no vibrations are happening no matter what combination of buttons I'm doing,
Also- I don't even get to the flashing part on the Mi Flash tool. I keep on getting a `Input string was not in the correct format`. Altought I'm using the same dir name & also tried the same version of the Flash Tool as a tutorial I had seen on youtube.
Update: managed to fix it using this guide: https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1CbIhdB14-kVzTulNpKBJjB1-R4y1hD3AlGZ5nGlkgik/mobilebasic
Only difference i had to do, that after each download i had to long press power button on the phone until the download button disappeared in QFIL, and after it reappeared i had to press it instantly otherwise it would give an error.

Thank you so much.
Turns out that the `Sahara failed` error I had mentioned up above, was because I didn't long press the phone as you mentioned after every Download.
TO THE READERS:
I had to disconnect the battery for these downloads. When the battery was connected I kept on getting these weird `Sahara` errors.
In addition to that, As @gergmt mentioned, I had to disconnect and connect the USB after each download. Or else, the `Sahara` errors would've attacked as well.
I had also long pressed the power button & volume up upon each time I had connected the phone to my computer, but I do not know if that step is also necessary.
Best regards and best of luck to you all!
P.S: Now I just need to figure out why I'm getting into a bootloop of the Android One screen (Had just flahsed SHRP & Bliss' ROM)
