Export contact with full resolution image - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all,
My question is simple. When I export my contacts with built in export procedure of gs3 or with MC backup all is okay.
When I restore this vfc file the images of contact are small and the resolution is really low!
How can I make a good backup with images at full resolution?
Thanks!

Synchronizing with Gmail works fine. Full resolution images are supported in JB. The images used to be downsized in ICS.

No clue about backing up on the phone. But once you sync, you can always restore from Gmail. When you flash a new ROM it first syncs all your contacts and you'll have the full resolution contact pictures, provided you've set good resolution contact pics in the first place when synchronizing. That's what I've been doing for a long time now.

So your suggestion is to not have contact on phone but have them sync with Gmail and stop?

Precisely. Very safe that way, even if the SD card goes tits up and/or internal memory gets buggered.
Once synced, the contacts are always available to you. Even if you lose your phone too (I hope that never happens, though)!!

When you first setup your Gmail account after flashing the ROM, they are synced. Just give it some time to fully download.

Call me an idiot...but I thought Google sync was obsolete with android, considering most of the devices are powered by Google! ....am I wrong....be nice !!
I will reiterate - Titanium Backup works great for restoring, in my case programs with data like Timeriffic.

You are wrong. Google sync is an android feature. It's one of the benefits to logging in with your gmail account when you setup a new ROM.

I've never been able to get Titanium Backup to backup and restore contacts...
You could just export your contacts to your SD card then import them back after you flash a new ROM. While in people, hit menu then export.

Contacts integration

Hi. I'm coming from a stock samsung 2.3.3 rom, I'm all ready to root it and give it a new firmware but will I lose my contacts which are integrated with facebook and all? I backed up a copy of it onto the sd card, but I'm not sure if it keeps the integration.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
provided you have synced with your gmail account, you should keep your contacts. you just log in once you boot up after flashing and your contacts will be refreshed
How do I know if I synced it to my gmail account? Does the backup to sd card function keep the integration with facebook?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you could also move them to sd card and if they,re on sd csrd, u won't lose them and you would, they still would be in your nandroid backup and you could take them from there with appextracktor

Before you do anything BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Use titanium to backup your apps. To find out if your gmail is syncing your contacts go to settings - accounts and sync. You should clearly see if your gmail is syncing your contacts. When you flash a new rom it will ask you to enter your gmail. This will then sync all your contacts to your phone. When you get clockworkmod installed backup a full image of your phone so you wont lose anything. Goodluck!
Thanks for the help guys! Okay gonna see if its syncing but I'm more worried about the facebook integration because I don't want to repeat the tedious process of merging my contacts painstakingly again!

Ohh another question, erm I can see that my google account is under the list of things syncing, is there somewhere I can check the contacts whether they are saved correctly or not? Thanks guys!

[Q] Hi res. picture in Google Contacts

Hi,
Is anybody know how to get hi-resolution picture loaded into google contacts? Everytime I upload a hi-res picture "google" schrimp it so it look like crap if I use as contact photo??
This has asked again and again and Google doesn't seem to have this as a high priority. If you upload the hi res picture directly into the web version of Google Contacts it will convert it to low res. However, if you update the picture directly on your phone it will stay as a high res picture. Unfortunately if you wipe flash your phone you will need to change all your pictures back to hi res since when you resync your contacts it will bring down the low res images again.
Hi,
Yes I know.....I just thought that there maybe was a thirdpart app out that could do the job.............I got nearly 250 contacts.............it is a pain to edit all and update photo, just to do it again afrher flashing!!!!!
Preaching to the choir. I have updated my photos more times than i can count. Thankfully I am on CM9 now and planning to stick with it for a while which should minimize the amount of times I need to do this. I am amazed that one of the selling points of ICS at their launch event was the hi res contact photos but they are not updating Gmail to accept the sync. I suppose they had planned on a greater adoption of Google + but still i should be able to choose the photos I want and keep the synced with the cloud.

Someone on the CM9 thread just brought this up. Haxsync from the market works as an alternative, I've been using it since native syncing was removed.
FYI.

Haxsync is good if you want Facebook photos. I prefer to choose the photos I choose for my photos.

[Q] Full Screen Call Contact Picture on Jellybean

Hi, I am on a Jellybean leak custom ROM and I found that I could set full screen call contact picture, precisely half screen picture. It took me quite some time to change the pictures from a small square pic to the half screen one... I backup my ROM through recovery.
Unfortunately, after I flashed a new ROM and restored from recovery, I found that the half screen pictures were lost! Only small pics left.
Does anyone know how can I backup the big pictures so that I would not lose them after setting again? It would be helpful if I could know which folder are they stored. And is it possible to have them survive after flashing another ROM?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone is gonna help on this? Thanks.

Why not go back to the backup before you did all the editing.

Actually I did backup and restore it but most of the pictures were gone. Only some (not all) in my "Favorites" remained. It's weird... That's why I would like to know the answer.

Are these Google contacts? If so you probably synced them to Google.
JB now supports hd contact images, all you have to do is change the contact images to hd one and sync it with your Google account, and the second step make sure you synced properly
Once you finish this process all you contact images will be in hd on all the jb roms you flash.
Sometimes you need to force sync more than one time to get back hd contacts images back...

backup for phone book contacts pics

Hey guys how to make a backup of high resolution phone book contact pictures.
I restored the phone book contacts from phone memory backup but seems like original large size contact pic are gone
Where are these pics are stored in the phone?

How did you set the Contact pictures? if they were synced straight from Facebook you could try "contact-sync" from the play store but if you just assigned them manually via camera photos, they may be in your gallery.

The best way now is to set the high resolution pics for your contacts once and sync your contacts with Gmail. This way, every time you flash a ROM, all you have to do is sync contacts and you'll have high resolution contacts. Google has implemented this in JB. Sync in ICS brings up low resolution contact pics.
This is better, actually. In case the backup gets corrupted, you have a backup in the cloud with full resolution pics.

Ok thanks I ll give it a try.
Has anybody noticed a little lag in loading phone book when you have high resolution contact pics? When I go back from contact detail to the main contact list whole screen goes off for a fraction of sec and than comes back. Any ideas to fix this ?
