[Q] Please help with restoring Stock Kernel & Firmware - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster over in these parts, and am hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right direction to a solution to an issue I'm having....
I'm trying to get my S2 back to factory fresh condition (ie, stock ROM/Kernel etc.)
Now, the problem is, I've found all the necessary bits (ROM/Kernel) in the following thread......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
However, I can't seem to download them. The multiupload links just take me to a download manager ad. :-/
I fully admit I may be missing something colossally stupid, so please, no name-calling
I did find the Kernel I need on another site, which I can't remember, but not the rom I need
Would someone please be able to tell me if I am indeed being a complete moron and missing something with the downloads?
Thanks
TheMightySpud

Why not just flash an official rom from www.sammobile.com via Odin..?
Sent from the Matrix

I did look at sammobile, but I can't seem to find a 'samsung' rom on there, just the carrier versions.
Also, don't I need to put a stock Kernel on there? As the one I've got isn't stock.
TheMightySpud

Yes you are one.
You say you want back to factory which is stock ROM and kernel.
Then you say you don't want to change kernel because the one you've got isn't stock.
"noob ok...lazy noob not ok"

Huh???
No, I do want to do both Rom and Kernel because neither is stock. Which is why I said there was no Kernel on the sammobile site, and asked the question about the Kernel.
So y'know, not lazy.
So, any answers to my actual question? How to actually download the files in the big thread? That's all I asked.

Multi upload went tits up 18 months ago courtesy of FBI.
There are plenty of unbranded stock packages on Sam mobile
If you want help then help yourself for starters by including the details about your phone etc.
"noob ok...lazy noob not ok"

There are unbranded Samsung roms on www.sammobile.com. Just flash with Odin. Your rom and kernel (the custom ones you have right now) will be replaced.

Okay fair enough, my apologies, I didn't know about multiupload.

Help s2 noob

I recently acquired my very own shiny new sgs2 (bout week n alf ago) i have managed to root it which was pretty easy i have to say. But now im stuck, ive come from an xperia x10 where pretty much every rom wud work with any build or version, to this phone where there seems to be individual roms for different builds and versions, and dont know what is safe for me.to use.
My phone is:
Kernel: xwkf3
Build number: GINGERBREAD.xwkf3
CSC: O2U
Which roms will i be able to use from this forum. Or even better is there a thread already in existence that can talk me through wat is safe to use or how to work out for myself which are safe (i have searched a lot and cant seem to find info i need)
I desperately want to start to unlock the potential of this phone but have kno idea where to start.
Thanks for any advice you can give this poor sgs2 noob

Not true

Any you are currently on KF3
You need to start reading the basics and understand them before flashing .A week spent doing that will be rewarded .
Any firmware any modem any kernel any CSC is the basics .

so ive done a little reading from your suggested list and from what i can make out i should be ok upgrading to:
XWKI4
Firmware info
PDA:XWKI4
PHONE: XXKI1
Date: 14/09/2011
Android 2.3.4
OXX MultiCSC(AUT, COS, CYO, DNF, EUR, NEE, ODK, ORG, ORS, PAN, SEB, SUN, TDC, TMS, TPH, TRG, VDH, VOM, XEE, XEH, XEO, XEZ, XSK):http://www.multiupload.com/BICMMUFFWF

the xx being for my area and flash firmware marked XEU for UK. am i right????
also im guessing that the first files are the stock firmware and that i also need to flash the stock kernal that goes with it??? and will this wipe my phone (planning on doing full nandroid backup first along with either titanium or backup root, backup just wanted to know)
sorry if this all been asked before but as i said ive come from Xperia x10 where things where a lot more straight forward
Yes or 2.3.5
XEU is UK
Kernal is in the stock firmware its not separate .
The big difference in the roms is the CSC and that just gives local network setup details .
Personal choice as of now would be start by flashing stock KH3 rom
from intratechs stock rom thread .
XXKH3
Android 2.3.4
This package has: PDA: XXKH3| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: OXAKH3.

[Q] How to install Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on Samsung Galaxy S 2 i9100

I tried searching the forum, found a lot of useful information but need to know my options are like which ROM is better / more stable etc and which one works in my case. Also I would like to know which option is best for me because I just bought a phone which I think is already rooted.
Please see the attached picture of my phone.
I just need advise so that I don't end up installing something in-compatible or something and end up bricking my phone.
Please advise or guide me in a right direction which steps or tutorial to follow to install jelly bean 4.1.1 on my i9100 ?

You're on siyah kernel. If you wish to keep your current kernel, you can install a cm10 rom released before 02 oct or JB ROM that hasn't used the latest mali drivers since siyah hasn't incorporated those yet.
The good news is you won't hard brick your phone..siyah is a safe kernel.
Look around the various ROM threads in the android development section, see if one catches your fancy and enquire if its compatible with siyah..since recommending ROMs goes against forum rules.
Also, most ROMs will include a kernel installation while installing them. Long story short, if you aren't insistent on keeping your current kernel you can flash pretty much any JB ROM built for the i9100. Be careful not to install any ROM for a different variant of the phone.
If you have any questions you can ask here or feel free to PM me.

Just need advise, is this siyah ? is this good ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798266
or this is better option ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810042
Also how can I know that my phone has CWM Recovery ? Is there any way to find out or by looking at my settings screenshot above - it means I have CWM Recovery ?

Thanks..
I know it totally depends on personal preference but I just need advise, is this siyah ? is this good ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798266
Is this the latest version of jelly bean by siyah ? new to forum and searching a lot but little confused with so many ROMS available...
or this is better option ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1810042
Siyah isn't a ROM, its a kernel. What you've posted are both ROMs. The first will run on your current kernel, the second will install the CM kernel. So you can try either one of the two. Look through at least the last couple of pages and see what others think on both forums. That might give you a better idea if its right for you. Else you can always flash the other one.
Good luck!

So based on the step to go in to recovery mode:
"Reboot into CWM Recovery mode by pressing Vol Up + Home + Power button (Release only power button when you see Samsung logo)"
I am doing this but I only see samsung logo with i9100 and it goes away then comes back in 5 sec then goes and comes back again... tried several time but cannot go into recovery mode, why ?
Update: I have successfully installed the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on i9100: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798266

Which rom is better for S2G

as Samsung till now don't update GT-I9100G with gelly bean. I decided to flash a custom rom
I downgrade as you advised me to ICS 4.0.3 KSA but I still have Insane chip
Now I must flash a CWM to flash the custom rom, It's safe to do this now as I will wipe data from it (CWM)
1-What is the appropriate CWM to my phone? and how can I flash it Via odin or Via Recovery mode?
2-I'm living in KSA which rom i choose [JB][4.2.1] CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies or [JB 4.1.2][PA2.55][AOKP-ML1][CM10]P.A.C True All in 1 ROM? as I need mobile to read and write arabic without any external applications.
3- I had a problem "my phone is always open but when some one try to call me it say mobile is closed" Is that from the rom cause of different modem in rom or how can i fix this (this problem not from the carrier as i try the sim in Nokia mobile and worked fine).

Hey ma8 stop making multiple threads for each of ur issues in the first place and also do not post 'what ROM/Kernel/Modem is the best for my phone' type question as they r against XDA rules, for which u might even have an 'Infraction' by the Mods
visit the link below and try out a cpl of them to see the one that suits ur needs better

Cheers for now!
As you reply with this you could answer my question then tell me what you want
you explain topics to experts [people not to beginners?

first, u have a 'G' model (I9100G) which is quite Different Hardware wise fro I9100 international version and its variants M/P/T etc, so any advice given to u here with some gross oversight might hardbrick ur phone for sure ma8
hence i have given u the appropriate link for ur model (I9100G) in my previous post, so visit there and see
u have a 'Q & A' thread for i9100g there also, so try posting ur issue there for better results.
Hope its clear for u know
Thread closed.
Remember guys, ROMs/kernels etc are all subjective so there really is no "best ROM" only ROMs that work best for you

jelly bean 4.2.2

Hello guys
I need some help here, few days ago I've updated my S3 to a leaked version of 4.2.2 from sammobile, didn't like the logo at startup (israeli language symbols) so I've decided to get back to 4.1.2. When I reinstalled 4.1.2 android looked for the Product code, and selected Germany. After done this my samsung kies saying my firmware is not supported, done some research and spoke with a nice guy from sam forum. All i know my csc is btu and product code is german. Bought the phone in uk at carphone warehouse and was unlocked to any network. Phone is not rooted but I really want phone to be as it was before, so I can get OTA updates directly. I don't use kies to update but if kies is messed up and don't match OTA updates will be affected.
Here some of my details:
checkFUS
product code : GT-I9300MBDVD2
PDA : I9300XXEMC2
PHONE:I9300XXEMC2
CSC:I9300XAEMC2
Any help will be much appreciated
Thank you
Run the csc selector app from Play store and select BTU, this will factory reset the device.
The problem comes if you are trying to run it on a rom later than ELLA since that update, you need to be rooted to change csc. If you really don't want to root, flash a rom earlier than ELLA, change the csc then use Kies to update to the latest.

Same goes for any stock firmware if you install it then its possible Kies cannot match your firmware .
Find
stock UK or UK CPW firmware from about the time you purchased the phone .
Best solution as always is not to use Kies or OTA and flash what you want when you want .

[Q] Need help rooting phone

Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100(T) Vodafone

PHONE: I9100TDVLS3
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.0.301-889696 [email protected]#3
Build Number: JZO54K.I9100TDVLSM
I'm having trouble working out what files I need to root my phone as there are so many variations, I don't plan on installing a custom rom I just want superuser access. There does not seem to be the correct kernel version for my phone in this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
The closest one I think would be GT-I9100T_DUKF2_insecure is that correct as I don't want to brick my phone if there is a chance using the wrong kernel as I don't have a spare one to use until I get it fixed. I have seen people suggest using I9100 instead and flash the modem but I don't want to do that or is this the only way?. I would have posted this in the kernel topic but I don't have the user permission to do so.
I will be using this guide http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
Aside from the rom manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EwMiwiY29tLmtvdXNoaWtkdXR0YS5yb21tYW5hZ2VyIl0. Are there any other recommended apps that need to be installed after the rooting process
I'm only going to say two things :
1. Search for PhilZ kernel.
2. Don't install ROM manager. It's a safe bet to brick an i9100.
Sent from my GT-I9100: Powered by Dorimanx, running RootBox
I've got 2 more.
1) Stick to xda threads.
2) Search in the HUGE australian thread sticked in Q&A.

I've got another one:-
If you can't work out how to root this phone without making a thread in Q&A given it was released two years ago, I'd question whether you should be messing with your phone in the first place. Read some threads (which people attempt to circumvent by posting threads like this; refer to my sig as to what happens to these people), settle on a method. It's not rocket surgery.
Edit - And another - If you're scared of bricking your phone, just don't go there. The moment you root your phone, kiss goodbye any expectation of warranty service.

I can work it out I just wanted some verification to determine if I was correct about what secure and insecure kernel I needed before I do this that will allow me to root the phone with out having to flash a modem onto it. I have settled on the method this one. This I why I posted under the Q&A section to get help on my understanding not be redirected to a different thread or told that I should not do this.
