[Q] going back to stock after mobile iron encryption of phone - HTC Amaze 4G

Phone is S-Off with Nrgz Energy ROM (ICS)
company email required mobile iron, so installed mobile iron which encrypted the phone and SD
mobile iron still doesn't work since the phone is rooted.
I did not like how mobile iron seemed to make the phone slower and battery drain much faster.
so decided to restore from the backup
But I cannot restore since the recovery cannot mount the storage (it is now encrypted!)
After searching around I think here is what I need do to get back to my old backup
1. Use Latest ICS Tmo RUU (from this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644&page=13) and rename it as PH85IMG.zip on the sd card and flash in hboot. I am hoping that disk will be formatted in this operation and encryption will go away. Since I am S-Off, I don't need to relock the boot loader. right?
2. Would the recovery be lost? If it is, reinstall recovery
3. restore backup
Any problems with this? Any other/better methods to achieve my goal?
Thanks

anyone? ... anyone? ...
At least about the first part? Since I am S-Off .. I dont have to relock the bootloader to flash the RUU, right?
Also Under storage, I saw that I could unencrypt the SD (which would remove all contents of SD). Will that remove encryption on the phone as well?

resolved

an update .. for anyone that will need something similar ..
1. The process worked. Encryption is gone on the phone. (external sd still seems to have encryption .. I am using a different one at the moment)
2, Recovery was gone. The bootloader was locked, so I had to flash jb_hboot to be able to push recovery
3. After recovery was flashed, successfully recovered backup.

A way to downgrade HBOOT from 1.02.0000 to 0.52.0000... May be!

Hi, everyone who have been waiting for a way to downgrade their HBOOT so that they can get S-OFF, cause they upgraded to the Official RUU Rom... I think I found a solution for you!
Also give you permanent ClockWork Recovery!
I haven't test it on any other Slide, cause I have only one. So, sorry if it didn't work for you.
Here is what I did, in case you're wondering, I downloaded the Official RUU from HTC Support website, extracted the 'rom.zip' file from Windows Temp folder that it creates, replaced the newer 1.02 HBOOT with 0.52 HBOOT, that I got from 'ESPRIMG.zip' (the Stock rom).
And also replaced the recovery.img with ClockWork Recovery img file.
Then I just renamed the 'rom.zip' file to 'ESPRIMG.zip'
Put it in the root of my memory card, powered off, rebooted into BOOTLOADER, and it detected the file and asked me if I wanted to update, I chose YES, and it went on without a hitch. Next thing I knew, I had 0.52.0000 HBOOT, with permanent ClockWork Recovery(so I dont have to use 'update.zip' anymore), and also the Official Latest 2.15.531.3 unmodified rom, (I like stock Espresso, that's why I bought it ) but you will LOSE ROOT but SuperOneClick method works for me to gain root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Method:
1. Download this 'ESPRIMG.zip' file - http://www.mediafire.com/file/cuemg74en7kk0a3/ESPRIMG.zip
2. copy/paste it to your memory card, in the root, not on any folder.
3. Make sure your card formatted to FAT32 file system, or it won't detect it.
4. Do a Nandroid BACKUP, if you can, cause I don't know if this will work for you. But it will wipe all your data and setting. SO BACKUP!
5. First you need to wipe data and factory setting, and wipe cache and wipe davlik cache (Otherwise it bootlooped for me). So boot into recovery first!
You can do that by going into BOOTLOADER first then selecting Recovery ( for that remove memory card from mobile or else it will start update) or if you have ROM Manager then you can use that to reboot into Recovery, any recovery will do stock or clockwork.
6. Ok, so after Wiping from recovery. PULL battery, then insert back the memory card with ESPRIMG.zip file on it. Reboot into BOOTLOADER, and apply the update.
It should do a reboot automatically to downgrade the HBOOT.
You will see the change if it worked. After applying the update, reboot phone normally.
And if all done correctly, you should have 0.52.0000 HBOOT, and also a permanent ClockWork Recovery. Now you can root by using SuperOneClick method. And also get S-OFF (I didn't need it, cause I have permanent S-OFF! , at least that's how I explain it)
Im guessing it worked for me because I have a factory unlocked S-OFF HBOOT from HTC. Because, to try this out first, I updated my phone via the OFFICIAL RUU from HTC Support Website and it showed S-OFF on my 1.02.0000 HBOOT.
Then I tried this method and it did downgrade my HBOOT and I still had S-OFF without doing the AlphaREV method.
So I guess I have a kind of permanent S-OFF??! :S :?
Hit thanks if it helped.
I am no developer but I am learning
Any feedback would be appreciated.
And yes, my major is CS and I LOVE IT!
Don't ban me please! Just helping the community! And this is kind of a rom
can anyone confirm this working?
EDIT: i got really curious and decided to try... its a no go, after loading zip it checks it but never gives the option to update. it was worth a try though...
Well I'm pretty sure since the phone already had the higher hboot with S-OFF, of course you can downgrade to an older one because there is no security to prevent it from happening, clearly.
But I did upgrade my phone from the RUU, wouldn't that have made my hboot S-ON?? But it didn't.
Also this is created from the latest Rom Update RUU from HTC, so there shouldn't be a problem with applying the update from hboot, and I think it shouldn't give tat error, that 'the version yiu are flashing is lower thsn the current', sonething along the lines of that.
But as you know I dont have anyother Slide available to me. So, it may be worth a try. Only you guys can tell.

But it should detect the ESPRIMG.zip, at least it should go on to verify the package and then promt for update. Was your memory card formatted to FAT32 and not just FAT??

Maybe you could get the hboot file from an old rom and switch it with a recent rom and try that
Hi, sorry for bumping an older thread, but I was wondering if anyone has the file from the media fire link?
I would like to downgrade from hboot 1.02 but I don't know where else to go to get the files.

returning to GB from ICS on a purchased phone

Recently bought a mint Rezound that has h-boot 2.10 & CleanRom 4.5 DE.
I want to make it a clone of the setup in my sig, can I just s-off the thing then flash the kernel/ROM setup I'm running now??
yeah s-off... and go nuts!! you can flash anything at that point.
Alright, I'm trying to figure out what Is going wrong here.
If I hook my existing phone to my PC everything works fine.
If I hook the new resound to the PC nothing happens (phone and card is not recognized) and I've tried threee different cables, two batteries etc,
The new phone opens into cleanrom 4.5 DE but immediatelly crashes and restarts before I have a chance to do anything at all.
Anybody?
Can you get to recovery? Amon Ra will allow you to mount the SD card. Put an RUU on it and see if that will recover the phone.

I'm trying to revert as well and I have a question.
I reverted to the stock GB ROM from my clean ICS rom using my nandroid back up.
Obviously I lose the ability to access my sd card.
I have S-off.
1. will installing this over write my backup ed GB ROM?
2. after installing it, will I see the sd card again?
3. I'm trying to send the rezound back to verizon because it is over heating (45Celcius during angry birds XD), having this ruu installed is like having a pure stock phone and I shouldnt worry about verizon saying it was rooted?
4. Do I rename and drop this in the root folder of the internal sd card and then boot to hboot?
thanks!

Installing this puts it back to stock. Over writes everything. You rename it to PH98IMG.ZIP then put it on your ext sd card not in a folder. You'll have to run it twice. Then if you want it totally stock you can turn the secure flag back on by doing what this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t= says

I dled the file and renamed it ph89img and placed it on my external sd card root folder.
When I boot into hboot, it searches for the image but cant find it.

sorry I mean its in root and not in a folder and after renaming that file to ph89img.zip is still wasnt recognized.
I flashed the boot file and rom from scotts roms for the rooted stock.
Does flashing those bring me back to stock radio?
Also, my sd card seems to not be accessible in GB.
Is there a way to fix this?

Search and try installing HTC drivers for the Rezound, usually can install HTC Sync and delete if you don't need the Sync feature, drivers stay behind. Attempt on a clean computer with no other phone drivers too to start, or Uninstalling Device Drivers in Hardware Manager on current PC when Rezound is connected. Then install HTC Sync and reconnect phone.
For booting into the ROM, may be a network bootloop, there is a sticky about it. Try with the backplate off, or even SIM removed if signal is still strong. Try and rule that issue out first.

It is 98, not 89. Case sensitivity may or may not matter, do PH98IMG.zip should solve that part.
Edit: yes, flash the RUU twice and it should reset everything, including radios. Do a factory reset in the boot menu too after all files are off phone, and sure the ROM worked (radios and data, and WiFi are working without error.)
Reset phone to stock for return
Can I use this to reformat the phone from GB s-off / custom (ENG) hboot /
custom recovery / custom rom to stock everything to return for
warranty replacement?
If I followed it correctly, I flash it the RUU twice then hboot factory reset,
then fastboot reset the s-off flag?

I guess then, on the new phone, I have to HTCdev unlock it,
redo the s-off procedure, fastboot flash Amon Ra 3.15 again and
restore my backup to the replacement phone? Then restore
the internal sdcard backup.

yes you can use this. Just s-off, relock your phone, and flash the GB RUU. then run the command in scotty's post to get back to s-on. then on your new phone, i wouldnt even unlock. just straight to s-off. its better then HTC "dev" unlock.

Forgot to enable USB debugging & clicked on restore my backup (Solved)

Hi Friends,
I have rooted earlier my phone and later I found some RUU roms for Asia for my Amaze hence as per instructions I relocked it and tried installing the RRU ICS Rom but it didn't work. So again, I unlocked the bootloader and inside TWRP recovery I clicked on restore my backup copy which is there in my SD Card but the mistake I made was I forgot to enable debugging in the settings for which I guess when restoring my backup copy it say's it cannot format or formatting failed. I tried restarting and restore factory settings but unfortunately I cannot boot the phone. it stops at HTC screen.
Please help me with regards to this by using the PC (All in one Tool) or mobile. Now I can only able to access bootloader and recovery TWRP 2.4.
what I missed out was enabling the debugging mode in settings after I unlocked the bootloader & tried to restore my updated backup copy from SD card.
Also, I haven't done S-off and Super CID. Since, I bought this recently and wanted to do this weekend.
Please do help me out for this solution. what should I do ??

and then I went into the bootloader and then recovery to recover my backup rom which I earlier had made for myself if any time I flash that I can restore it using my RRU backup rom with details.
So, now the problem is I can only see the HTC screen no further movement.
I can access bootloader and recovery TWRP 2.4
what I missed out was clicking on the debug mode after, I flashed my mobile .

Actually, your problem is probably the recovery you are using. If you are not S-Off then you need to be using 4ext recovery with smartflash enabled in the settings.

Hi Bro..
thanks for the reply..
Thing is like this, I have flashed my rom after that I forgot to click debug mode in the settings. Also it is in S-On mode. Since, I haven't S-Off & Super CID my phone.
Now in recovery screen when I tried to restore the rom or tried the custom rom which are there in my sd card. I get response as failed. Reason given below was unable to format.
So, you mean if I change my recovery from TWRP to 4ext, I am able to format in advance mode ??
Please help me bro.. THank you soo much for taking interest..

Ok.. I can do that using the ALL in one tool kit.
Now my only concern is that I have not enabled debugging mode for which I am unable to format the partition for restoring my backup ROM.
So, at this point will the changing of flash recovery will work from TWRP to 4ext ??
I'm worried about here is if my flash recovery (TWRP) also doesn't work after I do this and it stops at Hboot...!!

My son's phone has a similar problem. I've never rooted an Amaze, but had no problems with other devices following guides here. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong with his phone, but he has 4ext on it and I have Hasoons tool. It looks like he was trying to use the internal sd.
At this point, it boots to the HTC screen, then does not move forward. 4ext seems to be working fine, so I'm looking for a restore procedure that will get him back up and running.

Happen to me before because I said format partitions but thought it was stuck so I pulled the battery. My phone now didn't boot and the internal sd was borked. Flashing a RUU should fix your issue, it did for me.

Hey AJ, I just found the solution, it was simple enough to crack this issue. Since, earlier I told you that I had TWRP recovery while I was searching for all this issues, I found the solution. I gave a shot and tried the settings inside th TWRP recovery program and I tickmark the advance format using -r (don't know much tech knowledge). But when I clicked the radio button then I tried again recovering my backup data. I was successfully completed and was back with my GB.
I'm very much happy now, today I did S-off and Super CID succesfully and was able to install the latest ICS update. I just followed one of the senior member from pakistan who had same WWE Asia Ruu.
Now, I'm gonna try many different ROMs. Thank you for all your contributions and help.
Please can you suggest me the best ROM with no bugs and issues reported and works very much smoothly.
I checked out with nightmare ROM, its good but still I see some bugs in that.
Also, the RHD ROM even though it has the same bugs but pretty not sure how far my phone works smoothly between these ROM.
Thank You Soo Much for the HELP...

Hey.. that nice thanks...
ok.. I just run out to be having some problem.
I have done S off and super cid 11111111 (I just checked)
also my Hboot is 1.93
on the top of bootloader it is showing "Juopunutbear " instead of unlock - Is it fine or something wrong.
I download and updated the the 4ext recovery latest version.
Also I have updated to ICS 4.0 Ruu and made a backup. I have installed the SuperSU
I have been trying to install the Nightmare custom rom. But nothing happens except HTC screen.
I can restore back to Ruu my backup. but cannot do another further.
what could be the reason.

Phone stuck on Splash screen and recovery isn't working

I know this has been posted before, but my particular circumstance after reading through many threads has not been covered (as far as i know). I normally flash A LOT of new roms because i'm a bit of a ROM junkie and am always interested in all of you wonderful developers creations. So after flashing may 1000th rom, CM10.1, many times and getting bootloops, i decided to give up and restore the fully functional CM10 I was using prior. Well, after MANY numerous ways of restoring my back up, others roms, stock OEM RUU's/Zips, and bootloader NOTHING will get my phone to get past the WHITE HTC LOGO SCREEN!!!
I at one point couldn't access or mount my internal SD, o kept getting an error message so I connected it to windows and it was recognized and windows prompted me to format the internal SD card because it was "corrupted", so I did and tried flashing again through all the above methods and STILL NOTHING. Now every time i boot into recovery, it sometimes takes 50+ seconds to load or if it does load quicker it says i'm in "safe mode" or "enable 4EXT'S ADVANCED SETTINGS". I'm sorry that this si lengthy, but i'm stumped. Can anyone help me????
When I was on evervolv all my partitions were corrupted according to 4ext. No rom would flash. The only way I was able to recover was to downgrade to an official T-Mobile GB RUU. Once I did that everything was fine and dandy again. Hopefully if you do the same it works for you.
Thank you, I am going to try this today and see if it helps. Did you just put the RUU on the root of the external SD or was it and exe file??
Thanks again for your help!!!

No the ruu should be a zip file not an exe. The ruu's I used are for T-Mobile.
Since your S-Off you should be able to do downgrade and upgrade at will. Sounds like your partitions are messed up. Also make sure your SuperCID as well.
Downgrade your amaze to a GB RUU 1.43.531.3
Check MD5 SUMS
Rename it to PH85IMG.zip
Place on your External SD CARD
Reboot phone into bootloader
Let Phone find update and apply update
Let Phone reboot
If that worked and your able to use your phone
Repeat Steps 1 - 8 and use ICS RUU 2.14.531.3 instead of the GB RUU.
You can't flash an ICS Rom if your firmware is still GB.
Also if you want to get the latest update from T-Mobile that address wifi calling and updates your Firmware and Radio for better battery life and reception follow my guide here

I am having the exact problem as OP but I am S-on, what extra steps do I need to take? Thanks for your help.
EDIT: Since I can't allegedly go backwards from JB/ICS to GB when S-on, the only solution I was able to arrive to on my own accord was to format the internal SD in 4ext. Once I did that 4ext was able to see both internal and ext sd and I was able to flash to my heart's content. I think it was a misaligned partition or something. Fortunately everything on the internal SD was backed up already but in the future is there an easier way to do this without formatting sdcard? I re-locked my phone and tried to flash the latest T-Mobile Stock ICS RUU by renaming it to PH85IMG.zip and letting the bootloader flash it but I still got stuck at the white HTC screen at boot.

ive got the same thing going on, mine is s-on boot loader unlocked. i dont have super cid. ive tried the stock ruu t-moblie gb. in boot loader it reads it but afterwards nothing. ive even tried relocking the bootloader and trying that way, that way is a little differnt. if you relock bootloader then it will force itself in fastboot every time you try to turn it on or plug usb in from your pc. but you cant get into 4ext recovery.fastboot will read that ph85img.zip. and will try to update, but it fail and say cid incorect. but if you unlock your bootloader agein then your can get back into 4ext, but then your just at square one agein. idk im sumped. if any one can help that would be a life saver.

You have 2 options here
1. check your cid version download the appropriate ruu for it I've posted a unbranded version ruu in krooks thread and run it while the bootloader is locked..
2. Go to 4ext download a FLASHABLE ROM a gb rom NOT a ruu and flash it from 4ext and turn on smart flash before doing it ...
Either way you get a working device

Still no luck in getting past the splash screen
Well it's been a while since I've posted back on this thread, but I have tried everything that was suggested and i STILL can't get the phone to boot past the HTC Splash screen. I tried flashing many different RUU zips (all renamed PH85IMG) as well as custom ROMS (gingerbread and ICS based) and nothing gets the phone to boot up! They install, but after the phone reboots it's still a no-go. I just don't know what to do anymore. The only thing i can think of is my bootloader is still unlocked, could that have anything to do with this? Like I said earlier my phone is S-ON which makes things more difficult. I'm really hopeless for a solution.
I even mounted the internal and external SD's to the computer and reformatted them. Still doesn't help. Also, my recovery, which is 4EXT, always says i'm in "safe mode" and i have to do something to put it in advanced mode? Please someone help!:crying:

[Q] Stuck on stock gingerbread ROM missing files

I'm currently using a Macbook Pro and NOT Windows PC. I rooted my Rezound March 2012 with PC at time. Well awhile back I had accidentally deleted some system files from stock gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM. Now i'm not able to update my device to ICS to make use of the global capabilities. I installed Scotts ROM 2.3.4 a copy of it but it never recovered the system files that were missing. I would like to be able to S-Off (couldn't perform wire trick) and flash either CM 10.2 (Jelly Bean 4.3) or CM 11.0 (kitkat 4.4). I've read without being on stock baseband radio (ICS) I'm not able to perform a flash to new ROM. Anyone have any suggestions to proceed further? Thanks!
Well first of all you can use rum runner from the general section to soff with out wire trick. You say that the gingerbread boot loader doesn't support fastboot?

^^He can't rum run he's on a Mac like I am. there's no files to rum run on Mac.... Only linux and windows... But I can do a dual boot with boot camp... He's just straight Mac ^^

ah i see your point well forgot about the mac thing but pc's shouldnt be too scarce maybe use a friend's? cause rumrunner is amazing. and can you not just flash the latest recovery via fastboot and then flash the 4.0.3 stock and then fastboot flash the boot.img then do a system update through settings then root it then install the latest recovery again and then install your rom of your choice and gapps then fastboot flash the boot.img?

That's exactly what I was telling pball52998 I had planned on doing. Except with mac it's difficult and without being able to get to ICS with the radio capabilities I can not go that route. I need to obtain stock gingerbread containing ALL system files including the system OTA update file I originally deleted. When i had to re-do my phone over a year ago and re-flash gingerbread because my device was messed up I was NOT able to access files that I had deleted in system. I was supposed to freeze them not uninstall originally. Unless there's an ICS unoffical ROM with all working radios and global capabilities then I'm forever stuck on Stock gingerbread. Do you understand? And using another persons PC is a no go because i have to install software ADB on their computer and I'm 100% sure they would not be ok with it at all. It's getting late here now. so goodnight to you. :good:

ADB doesn't need to be installed, you can just drop the files into a temp folder, run what you need and delete them.
As for getting your phone up to ICS, this will wipe your phone (including the Internal SD, back up anything you want off to your computer), upgrade your phone to ICS and the hboot to 2.27 which is sufficient for installing JB/KK roms.
As long as your hboot is 2.27 or older and your bootloader is locked, it should work fine, follow the directions on the page. If none of the mirrors work, Raventech has it posted in a thread here also.

Bricked Rezound?

It automatically goes into Hboot and does not recognize any PM98IMG file. To mention the zip extention is not needed. And I put it on the internal sd therefore it can not be read properly by the device. I'll try to take a video of what i'm talking about with my ipod touch. Hold on.
