You're really asking that?

I would say it depends on which forum you ask the question in as to the response you get.

I think the i777 has a much more active dev section and it is very similar to the original international S2. The skyrocket has a different processor which even though it is clocked faster, people have reported it as not performing on par as the exynos processor in this phone and the int'l version.
The skyrocket has a 5-6% bigger screen which is probably the biggest benefit to it. However, the i777 does not seem small at all. I think that the skyrockets screen is the same resolution as the i777, so you may find the image quality of the skyrocket to be less.
The skyrocket is capable of 4g LTE but unless you live in an area that has it and are on at&t (rather than straight talk/net10 w/ a BYOP sim) it won't make a difference.
I was trying to figure out which is one is "better" back in October. I went with the i777 and I'm very glad about it.
Edit: If you're in India you probably would want the i9100 S2.

If you're getting a new phone I don't know why you would go with one as old as this one. I'd go for something released in the last few months at least or wait for the next big thing.

+1 to Phalanx7621. Recommending waiting for the GS IV. If you can wait.

Still looks like it'll have the crapdragon, but man this thing looks awesome. 1280x800? Even in pentile that'll look great. Oh how I wish I could have both this and my i777.
I want this but not with the snapdragon. Ill probably have to pass on it. Im afraid it will have little Dev support. We will have to see.

Give up Exynos, gain LTE. Why can't we have our cake and eat it too? I hope Samsungs next chips will support LTE. Nay, Sumsungs next chips MUST support LTE.
After seeing it pass through the FCC, I had been waiting for the Note to hit AT&T. I would have gladly returned the SGSII in favor of the Note, but the moment I read the latest news - and that AT&T is favoring LTE over exynos, I decided to give up hope on the Note.
I honestly don't think the snapdragon processor has enough power to drive that high resolution display without stuttering. That might not bother AT&T as long as they get to push LTE phones (even though LTE is nothing more than a meaningless buzzword in the vast majority of AT&T markets right now), but it bothers me. It's like taking a beautiful Porche and sticking a moped motor in it.
Even if the snapdragon is capable of pushing that display, it'll only do so by draining the battery quicker than a 14 year old boy with a copy of national geographic.

The fact that they are favoring the LTE over the Exynos, even though they dont have many areas with LTE coverage ATM really pisses me off. Ive been waiting for this device to get actual AT&T support for a while, just to find out i shoulda bought the one from overseas a long time ago? THIS SUCKS!! I already owned a Hercules, basically the same thing as the SR but without the LTE, and I had an amaze, both of which run the same internals as the AT&T "note". I am sooo disappointed right now, pffff, snapdragon, what a let down.
edit: they did say to keep in mind its hearsay, while unlikely, lets hope that it IS the case!

I too have been waiting to see if would come to AT&T for a while now and in what form. My gs2 is a work phone and been was going to get the Note as a personal phone once it hit here. I'll probably just pick up the international version now as no LTE in my area and probably won't be for a while and appears to be inferior hardware from what I've read.

Could be worse - Verizon customers have had the choice of only battery-hogging fatties or underspecced cripplephones for many months.
LTE isn't going to be mature enough for primetime for at least a year, the power/weight penalties are way too high currently. Unfortunately it's starting to look like AT&T is pulling a Verizon, not giving customers who want a mature, refined, high-end phone with decent battery life many options.
Most likely, the I777 is going to be the peak of refinement in terms of contract-subsidized devices on AT&T for at least a year. Anything newer and you'll be one of AT&T's LTE beta testers.
Remember the early days of UMTS? We're in the same position now with LTE.

i was wondering if some of the devs for this phone if they were going to the note?
I don't know, I'm not a dev, but I doubt it. Seems like more of a niche phone to me, and it has the damn Snapdragon. I hope that the next-gen Exynos's have LTE support- I noticed that even the Tegra 3 is being replaced for the LTE versions of HTC's phones for the Snapdragon S4... yikes.

No, which is why very few developers are likely to touch it. (I assume the OP means the AT&T Note, not the original. The original periodically tempts me, but I've already bought one device off-contract this year.)

No clue - nothing on the market now. However, unless AT&T shapes up and stops mangling their devices, it's almost guaranteed I'll buy the whatever is the latest iPhone with my contract subsidy and immediately eBay it - only because the iSheep love to overpay on eBay. My next device is almost guaranteed to be an international device or the next Nexus.
It's too soon to tell, I think my next upgrade is early 2013.
I'm waiting for windows phone 8, if it fixes the problems I have with it...
HTC One X looks really good... even the AT&T version (with the S4 Krait processor).
Im waiting for the GSIII of course. Samsung and HTC are the only companies that are worthy of my money, but perhaps something awesome will turn up at MWC and make me think twice on that.
Like the LG Vu? Now that is a fine looking.... I cant do it.
On the other hand I also thought the One X looked pretty nice too, looks like they tamed down sense in sense 4. Huawei and ZTE showed some cool phones. And Asus showed the padphone again. If it ever ships that could be cool.
But like entropy, I don't qualify until 2013, so I'm not looking too hard at any of these phones. If something really entices me I might give the 3 warranty replacements in 90 days trick a go.

I just bought the International Galaxy note (coming from the AT&T SGSII obviously) and I love it. I prefered the Exynos processor and the hardware button over the AT&T version. I can't see a quad core in a phone really blowing me out of the water as much as the dual core did. Dual core made everything in Android run very well (especially the Exynos, thank you Samsung) so it works great for me. Not to mention all tablet apps run on the Note with ICS (ex: Photoshop!). Don't think I'll be going down in size, or buying another AT&T version, anytime soon.

I said the same thing for supercurio, existz, and hardcore. Every kernel dev that doesn't give up on its followers will always be a great dev.
Laziness is a powerful thing - sometimes you'll see a good dev go to a device with good development, and be happy with what's there or just popping out patches.
If I had an I9100, I'd probably have just popped patches over to Ninpo until he stopped development.

Should i upgrade to sgs2

Ok so i have had my galaxy s captivate for 1.5 years and love it. ATT now has a sale until March 28th to get the sgs2 for 9.99 as my upgrade. My question is should i grab this great deal or wait on the sgs3 which is going to be expensive as hell.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
You should definitely get it!
Development has skyrocketed for the Galaxy S II and there's dozens of ROMs available, but the Galaxy S III seems ok but if you're impatient for ROMs 'n' stuff you're better with the Galaxy S II.
better wait for sgs3 and see what it offers and its price and sgs2 price will drop after sgs3
If price is a factor go for it. The S2 is a massive upgrade from the S1.
Sent from my GT-I9100T
if you can wait and afford it, then theres no question. the s3. no amount of roms can make 8 mp 12, dual core into 4 and so on. youll be competing with the best of the high end the likes of the s2 and the 4s.
unless the s3 turns out to be a pile of snot upon release ofcourse.
as an s2 owner since last may, i can say that i picked a gnexus on upgrade but found that the s2 was on a par or better in some respects. the s3, if it bests the s2, is a no brainer.
If that 9.99 is a one off payment its a bet to nothing .

This means he is an AT&T user in the USA, and is talking about an upgrade to the Galaxy SII for AT&T, or the Skyrocket. No chance he'll be able to upgrade to the GT-I9100. AT&T doesn't offer the I9100 at all.
OP, ATT has their own model of Galaxy SII, which is the SGH-I777, and another variant for LTE called the Skyrocket, which is the SGH-I727.
You are currently in the forum for the GT-I9100, which is the international model of the Galaxy SII. There are similarities between the SGH-I777 and the GT-I9100, but there are differences as well. Firmwares are not totally compatible between the two. If you flash an I777 firmware to an I9100, or vice versa, it won't TOTALLY break your phone, but things won't work right.
The I727 (Skyrocket) has completely a different SoC/chipset, so firmwares are COMPLETELY not compatible with either the I777 OR the I9100.
The SGH-I777 and SGH-I727 both have their own forums.

No worries; I just want you to be fully informed. It would suck for you to have gotten one of the phones, and try to flash a ROM from THIS forum. If you had gotten the regular Galaxy SII, it would have just acted weird. If you had gotten the Skyrocket, you probably would have completely bricked the phone.

International version?

There is someone local selling an unlocked international version on the GS2, with the physical button on the bottom. Is there any differences in the software between this and the TMO version? If I were to buy this, can I flash and root as if I were using the standard GS2?

I saw that, and read an article that kept talking about the Nexus 7. I had a G2X that a sold and picked up a Nexus S for $165. I don't like this damn phone, so I'll be promptly selling and using the profit for a top tier phone!
Does the S2 feel like the standard cheap Samsung while holding it? Or does it actually have some weight to it? Coming from LG's and HTC's, those things are heavy.

For me it is decent enough to look at and doesn't feel cheap even though it's light weight. Hmmm, you should decide whether you want a fast update (GNex) or better hardware buy slow update (Sgs2). Sgs2 is a great phone but samsung has the habit of updating a device for a year and then stop (not 1 year but you get the point). If i had the chance i would swap my sgs2 for GNex but i'm in doubt since i am a heavy user and i use my phone for gaming. Also, GNex lacks External SD card which is a No No for me.

I don't really care for the OTA's, I'll flash whoever put together a flashable version of whatever OTA is released...
I actually ordered a G. Skill 32gb SDHC Class 10 from newegg.com for my G2X, which I don't have anymore, now with the Nexus S, I have no use for the card! The SD write speeds on this phone are HORRIBLE, about 800k/sec!!!
I'm a fan of the non-carrier branded devices for some reason. My G2X had LG on the top instead of the traditional T-Mobile, and the screen hue while turned off was a brownish color instead of a blueish-gray that the TMO version had. I had one of each G2X's and in comparison, the screen for the LG branded was much more vibrant.
Now I have the Nexus S, again no branding, which is another reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm confused, to say the least!

The S3 is WAY to overpriced, I would just get that, but not willing to dish out around $500 for a non contracted phone.
Oh, another reason to stay away from the carrier branded for me, is that they won't get IMEI/ESN locked by which ever carrier!

Huh? i don't really care to receive Jelly Bean on the Nexus S, the DPI is atrocious on this phone. That, mixed with the screen type don't equal out to a good display. My G2X looked WAY better than this device.
The S2 will get a good Jelly Bean port before the Nexus S will, I'm sure of that.

Should I go for the note or not??

Hello I saw a guy selling an unlocked att galaxy note and I offered him my HTC one x if he added some cash he said he would do the trade no cash involved. Now is this a good deal I have the HTC one x international variant and now with the note 2 coming up in about a month I have my doubts. The reason I'm trading is because I cant get data to work with my HTC one x on tmobile and I like the 5.3in screen. So would it be a good deal and is flashing tmobile radios easy?? And how's development? Thanks
Edit and flashing roms on HTC devices is hell since their not s-off yet
And is there 4G on ics?

1) there is 4g on ics rooms
2) development is awesome tons of ICS roms and a couple jellybean ones as well.
3)not sure about T-Mobile radios but if you use the search there's a lot of info about it.
4)It's only a good deal if that's what you want and then move forward and don't look back wishing you got a better trade. Besides soon as you root and flash you'll feel like you snookered the guy in the deal
Hope this helps

The note is a great phone and the development is pretty freakin awesome, I'm coming from an HTC and I remember the development for that device was off the charts. One thing I will add o the above poster is build quality, while the note is well made I know first hand that the HTC One is built like a beast and is tough as nails, the note is gonna be a little more dainty if you could imagine it. You're definitely not going to want to go naked with this phone. I also remember that depending on the recovery flashing stuff and making/restoring nands and just doing general maintainence in the HTC was a lot easier, but that is really a comparison between Amon Ra recovery and CWM for the note. But TWRP is comparable to Amon Ra.
As far as development there are things that are gonna make the trade a good idea on your part... For one there is beats audio available for the note as well as google now, and you're going to be happy with the spen suite (if you choose to run touch wiz). And I don't think you're gonna have trouble getting data to work on TMob. Not to metion the stable JB roms available is just too cool.
I think this is a good trade on you're part, you're gonna love the super AMOLED 5.3 screen and the 2500mA battery, as well as the Spen. But if it were me I would try to hold out for the note2, simply for the larger screen.
yeah guess im doing the trade then :good:
Just a friendly word of advice, get the N7000 if you have a choice. Mine gets about double the battery life compared with my other Note, the i717. And the button kicks ass.
yes that is a good deal. Galaxy Note is worth more, the roms are very good on the galaxy note. you can unlock it for Tmobile, the radios are pretty easy. The only thing is that the Note 2 maybe releasing some time. You may want it, if so you can get more cash for the note than you can for a One X. 5.3 in beats everything!
Battery life is different for all users. I average 19 hours with normal usage and what not while still overclocked on my ATT Note.

As for radio FJ rom + icsblaze radio gives the best result.
Unless you are grandfather in for tzone or that other $10/ month data plan, I do not see a reason for anyone to purchase att note & go through all these flashing trouble.

Just a friendly word of advice, get the N7000 if you have a choice. Mine gets about double the battery life compared with my other Note, the i717. And the button kicks ass.

I've heard that the N700 is a better phone, but the reasons stated haven't convinced me. I've heard that its got better battery life, but battery life is way to subjective to say for sure and both batteries are the same.
I've also heard that the processor is better, but my research says that the i717 has a faster processor, though its not dual core. I'm also not convinced that a stock dual core will out perform my over clocked processor.
As far as data speeds there is a mod that changes att's network settings, and I've seen my data speeds increase 3-fold, up to 40mbs/s.
Other than all that, I don't like the button on the N700.... I guess i would just rather have 4 soft keys that 1 hard key.

I love the att note, fast speed, no ugly button on front of phone oh and because it was my only option!
Edit: Battery makes it through my work day just fine, and on this latest Rom I flashed, the battery drains quicker than previous versions. Battery isn't bad considering the size of the screen...

Hey i bought my white note yesterday. I have it stock rooted 2.3.6 with CWM Touch and i am using the T989 ported T-MOBILE radio. So far i love this phone. If that the HTC Amaze 4G the Samsung Galaxy S2 (T989) and note the note on T-Mobile and by far the note is my ultimate favorite. All i am missing is to find a good fast yet battery savy kernel and im good to go.

It depends. The N7000 doesn't support LTE but the i717 does. If this isn't a concern to you go with the N7000 as it has far more development than the i717.
And yeah, the home button (physical) beats four capacitive buttons any day in my book.

It seems people like or don't like the middle button... No in between opinions. I think the middle physical button is ugly. It's the main reason I didn't get the international version. I'm just glad the US version didn't have it or I wouldn't have a note.

The Korean versions have it too.
My previous phone had it. I'd probably prefer it because it means no fourth, "search" capacitive button...which makes using the s pen a lot easier ... at least for me.

I have a black N7000 and white i717 and FWIW the N7000 is easily my favourite. Battery life is approx double, I have flashed nearly every ROM available for both. Cap buttons suck. LTE is a battery-sucking pig and not much faster in my area (Vancouver,Rogers). Better ROMs on N7000, call recording, smoother operation. I haven't found a rom as smooth on i717 as any on N7k. Unlock on N7000 is easy and free. BUT, there's that ssd firmware bug and tiptoeing around every N7000 flash is nerve wracking.
Currently running CM9 on the 717, all stock, it is still laggy/jerky.
