It's great that there is still some dev on this phone. Can I use any gapps with a ROM, or does it have to be for the phone? I'm getting an server error when after logging into the Play store.

It depends on the CyanogenMod version, I think. (The ROM thread should say if it is CM 7.2, CM 7.1, etc., or which Android version it is.)
You can find gapps for CM ROMs here: http://goo.im/gapps

Hello,
Recently I upgraded to cyanogenmod 11 and could not connect to Google Play Store, so after trying a lot of ways to fix this issue I decided to remove the google acount from my mobile and add it again, but every time i clicked on add a google acount it simply shuts down and nothing happens.
Sounds like you might not have used the right set of Gapps that were compatible with the version of CM11 you are using. Please share with us which phone, which update of CM11 (nightly version, snapshot, milestone, etc) and which Gapps you used.

No problem. Not the first thing to think of if you haven't been there before. Just seems like Google Apps should work whenever, right? But what are ya gonna do... lol Android will be Android.
Hi,
I've just installed CM 11 on my Moto E (from here, using monthly snapshot: cm-11-20140916-SNAPSHOT-M10-condor.zip) but during the setup, it refuses to allow me to add my Google account - when I press the "Set up a Google account" nothing happens.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks,
Adam
It's because there is no Gapps installed. Just flash the Gapps & you will be able to log into Google account.

Thanks. What's Gapps and where should i get it from?
It's not mentioned in the how to root your phone instructions or the CM11 for Moto E instructions.
Adam
Gapps abbreviated as Google Apps are the Google basic apps like Play store, Hangouts, Newsstand, gmail, etc that comes pre-installed in stock firmware.
In Percy's CM11 thread under CyanogenMod Gapps the links to flashables are given. Download it & flash it.
Brilliant, thanks
VanillaAOSP
This ROM is built straight from Google sources without any changes/modifications.
Please feel free to flash it on your device or use it as a base for your own custom ROM if need be.
I don't plan on making any changes to the ROM or adding any features etc. I usually run the factory image on my device unrooted a lot of the time. I just love the vanilla android simplicity and ease of use. I also really enjoy AOSP as well, so vanilla AOSP works for me. Enjoy.
Instructions
1. Have the latest TWRP installed on your device
2. Full wipe if coming from another ROM (make sure not to wipe internal storage)
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gapps
5. Flash SuperSU
6. Enjoy

What is the difference from stock lollipop Nexus 5 factory image?

The factory image from Google comes with all Google proprietary apps and services pre installed.
ROMs built from AOSP source don't have any Google apps installed at all. All the apps are open source. So there is AOSP calendar, AOSP Dialer, AOSP Gallery, AOSP Camera, Keyboard etc etc.
If you want Google apps you can flash separately in a custom recovery.

What gapps do you recommend? Or what gapps are you using?
Finally I was searching a ROM like this one, I hope you update it when there is a new release.

I use the SimpleAOSP L Gapps. But any Lollipop Gapps should be fine. Link below for SimpleAOSP L Gapps

I am going to try and keep up to date. If 5.0.0_r8 is uploaded to AOSP I will try to provide an update, time permitting.
So to be clear, this has just AOSP GApps right? Will GApps remove the AOSP apps when flashed?
Thanks in advanced!
Nice one @Chochiwpg

The ROM itself comes with AOSP camera which does not have HDR+. The Gapps package also does not include Google Camera. However, Google Camera can be downloaded from the at Store and it does provide HDR+ capabilities. I just tried it out and it worked. Thanks.

I guess it depends which Gapps package you choose to flash whether it removes the AOSP apps. The SimpleAOSP Gapps I linked to earlier does not remove the AOSP apps. If I am not mistaken I believe PA Gapps will remove AOSP apps. So depends what you want and which gapps you choose to use. Whichever suits you best.

Did you check to make sure your ROM download MD5 matches the md5 in the OP? I have flashed a couple times already without issue. Boots into Android and everything is functioning.

after installing this rom i lost all my sd card data. I tried to do the terminal code thing but it said permissions denied. Can't get to my /data/media/0 and downloads folder because that doesn't exist. Can't restore my backup because well, my sd card doesn't exist. any help?
Same with you. Pure aosp is the best !
Hello, I have RN4 with Snapdragon. On my phone anything ROM is unable to use, because Google have error, and is infinite loop of checking updates, or error with connecting to Google servers. I tried to reflash Global, but still not works.
Are you sure the issue isn't with your WiFi? Or your GApps package? Redownload GApps for your ROM (if your ROM is 7.1.2, download the OpenGApps 7.1 stock package, etc.) and reflash your ROM and GApps. It usually takes 5 minutes max for the device to get past the checking for updates screen.

I use opengapps on my Samsung S5 with LineageOS. I've never tried microg. Microg has problems with LineageOS because of signature spoofing. I don't know if that would also cause problems with AOSP.
If you use opengapps install the pico size. It is smaller and less likely to cause problems. You can install any additional services not included in the pico package from the play store.

Thank you so much. I will try with open gapps
Open Gapps is Gapps. It is not really different from just installing from google (not putting down what they do here, just saying). Also, you will not be able to install on Android 10 as we have no TWRP.

I was just asking for this. I can't flash a twrp on android 10. Is it because there isn't a compatible version for pixel 3? Thanks
