[Q] Sound Died - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Need some help on this.
Current setup
Crdroid 13
Yank kernel 3.1b, sound volume +4
I was having a conversation with my wife using loudspeaker using the extra volume function when suddenly the sound died. After that I can't hear a thing including music, video sound, ringtones and notification tones. I can only hear voice thru the speaker but not thru loudspeaker.
Help me out guys. Is my speaker broken?

Factory reset, flash a stock ROM.
If that doesn't help - replace speaker.

Already mega-wiped, flash a new rom and nothing.
Does this mean the volume hack killed my speaker?
Better not use it next time.

yup, if you push the speaker beyond the limits, this shouldn't be a surprise

[Q] Lost all audio

Since a few days i've lost all audio from device. It doesn't play any ringtone or system sounds at all, native or mp3.
All volume settings are untouched, no silent mode whatsoever.
When i start music player it 'starts' playing, but song time bar (sorry for bad english) doesn't move and no sound is coming out of the device.
Plugging in the headset makes no difference, no sound there either.
When tapping the play/pause button in the player i eventually get a FC for music player and device lags alot for a few minutes.
A video plays, but without sound.
The only sound i have is from speech calls, but switching to speaker doesn't work.
The FM radio works normal (through headset).
My device had CF root, and no custom ROM. I already completely wiped device and flashed stock kernel and stock rom back on it through ODIN but to no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Seems your Speaker is gone man

So there's an example of the headset working, but there's also an example of it not. It's not his speaker.
@OP Did you try a complete wipe?
Yes I did completely wipe the device (wiped everything I could possibly wipe when root was still intact through CWM)
No result though

your problem is that the phone thinks that a headset or headphone is inserted..... try to use ur headset to prove this....
get the app that disable headset/headphone and all ur media sound will go to your speakers. i had this problem too and the only solution ive found was the app.... its not a hardware problem but a system bug....... goodluck

[Q] Earphone speaker broken?

The earphone speaker is not longer working, i can use only headphones or loudspeaker.
External speaker is not working for media: music, games, youtube etc, But for ringtones and notifications it works fine.
I already tried to wipe the phone, was using custom ROM with stock kernel. I tried to run tests from service menu, bu all i can heas is... silence.
Wiping - didn't help.
Returning to 100% stock - didn't help.
Is there any way to track down the issue?

[Q] (Help) No sound from external speaker

I installed new kernel, and have no sound from S3 back speakers(next to camera). Then I reverted all back to stock rom and kernel, but still no sound.
If I place my phone near to my ear - seems sound us still working but with tiny volume. In headphones - sound working fine and front speaker working well when i answer calls.
I already did full wipe, format and stock again but with no effect. I'm very sure my phone is not in silent mode, all volumes are opened to maximum. I searched at other threads but no solution was reported.
Anyone had encountered this situation before and can anyone help me please??
If you've returned it to stock unrooted and the issue still exists,.it'll be a hardware issue

In Call Volume Boost w/ Root

Now that we have root for our Z3v's... I've been playing around with trying to find/edit the files that control our phones speaker volumes (both in call earpiece volume and speaker phone volume). I don't necessarily need to increase the speaker volume for playing music because most of the time I'm using bluetooth, but I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in that as well.
I'd like to be able to just modify the phones system files rather than use some sort of booster app.
From what I'm been able to find, the file located in /system/etc/ called mixer_paths.xml is what our device uses to control volume parameters. I've seen where other devices have had these types of files modified in order to boost max volumes.
Is this something we can do with our phones? The in call volume, both earpiece and speaker phone are just TOOOO quite for me.
This is about as far as I can comfortably go as I'm not a developer/programmer.
Anyone out there comfortable helping out with this idea? Is it possible.

I also would like to know how to increase the volumes
I think it's almost comical how low the audio levels out of the headphone jack are. I don't know if this can be fixed or what but even playing at full volume it seems too low.

I've been using the Sound Mod from Z3 Development version 3.3 with Dolby Digital Plus (I think it has beast audio) & the volume on the headphones is so loud at the second click up. They even have a way to go back to stock.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread.... You say you're using the sound mod. Did you flash that in recovery?
Checking this out first, just got root today and don't want a shiny new paperweight anytime soon

I did flash the sound mod through recovery but it only boosted speaker volumes, not in call volumes. I used the one without Dolby.

Wow so we can flash .zip files in recovery now? Again just making sure, just rooted and there isn't a ton of info out there for our device atm. Thanks in advance
I flashed it in the dual recovery as well. Just make a backup first because the zip they have to take it back to stock isn't for our phone. In other words if you ever want to go back you should wipe & reload the backup. And make sure you don't install the lollipop version.

Does this mod increase speaker volume in general? Like listening to music?
