[Q] Better way to natively browse/upload files? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
A consistent problem I have with using an android tablet and phone is the annoying way I have to upload files to things through the browser, such as imgur or blackboard. Right now, the process is
upload file to drive - upload to whatever i'm uploading to
Reason for this is that when I click "upload from computer" on any website, the options available are gallery, camera, dropbox, etc, but no pure file browser. Unless there's some way to get the gallery to act as a file browser, I'm stumped. Any solutions?

Gallery Problem

i'm on archos 10i newest firmware but my gallery doesn't read all my pictures that's in sd card? do you have any solution for this? i tried to install the gallery 3d 2.2 but it can't install...
Have you tried updating the media library:
Settings>Storage>Update multimedia library
or
Settings>Repair and formatting>Reset multimedia library

i tried and not working
same problem.
try this:
delete all image
take a folder with +/- 100 images and paste in archos.
disconect archos from pc
let it upgrade media library.
then repeat for oyher images
you must disconnect the archos from pc all times it's very important and let it upgrade the galley
I'm having the same problem. I still haven't found a solution.
android gallery showed a message "limited to 10,000 photos "
I tested QuickPic , but not ordered tree mode, it is impossible to find a picture.
and justpictures, that tree so you do not see subfolders.
you know decent program to see photos?
sorry for my English
I think you should try free app Justpictures. It is much better than the stock one. You can choose which folders to build catalog (not everywhere like the stock one, which causes everything slow down).
Justpictures also allow you to link to your Picasa and Flickr accounts. A very neat and fast software.
Is it possibel to remove the stock one app?

Best app for viewing photos

I have a lot of pictures at home in my personal computer.
Now that i have the prime, what app is the best to view all of them without transferring all of them to the memory?
I was thinking of an app like tumblr or similiar, where i upload all the pictures to the site and can view them that way
So, you want to leave the photos on your desktop and browse them through your tablet? I'm not sure an app is what you want. Maybe some kind of web server running on your desktop that you can then browse to from the tablet.

thanks for answering, but i was hoping to view my photos away from home
upload to picasa. your stock gallery automatically syncs everything u got on there.
Def agree Picasa Is the way to go.
I also think Picasa is also what you're looking for. Your pictures will just appear in your gallery.
If uploading is to much: install a personal websever on the PC and have it make your photos available, then pick a browser lol.
I use Picasa(web) and the stock Gallery app.

Entertainment Center stuck

hello my atrix's entertainment center gets stuck upon selecting to browse each media category. Once I select videos or music I just get that "orange waiting box" for like eternity. I am using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409&highlight=keyboard+language which is the standard international rom for atrix. Any ideas? I have some videos I want to play from internal storage
Freezing on Motorola Entertainment Center Splash Screen
Similar issues on a Bell Atrix 2.3.6.
Mine used to hang when going through the pictures or videos menu..
Now it hangs on the splash screen and doesn't even load. Sometimes the glimmering bit shows and freezes, sometimes it just says "Motorola Entertainment Center." After 30s or less it asks to Force Close or just closes on its own.
System 45.21.78.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA
Android 2.3.6
Webtop WT-1.2.0-167_BELL
Build 4.5.2A-51_OLL-17.8
Any help's appreciated!

have you tried reducing the number of media files on your device?
I'm still trying to get mine to work too, but trimming the files got me past the splash screen at least. now i'm just stuck with the "Loading" circle and "waiting" inside each category - same as you i guess.
I would say my dcim/thumbnails definitely has an influence on the entertainment center. so maybe the gallery also plays a part. still messing around with deleting the thumbnails folder, refreshing it, etc.
problem solved!
i found the place where the thumbnail data is stored, which was making the huge thumbnail file and crashing Entertainment Center.
it isn't storing the entire ".thumbdata3--1967290299" file (which can be hundreds of mb for some people), rather a large (tens of mb) .db database file that is being used to recreate it on demand.
/data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases
external.db
with Root Explorer i could view the file, and Speed Software also sells an sql editor which you can use to trim the thumbnails table.
*be careful: deleting entries from this file also seems to delete it from the device! i deleted all records from the thumbnails and images tables..
learn from my mistake. i thought it would regenerate, but it deleted all images from /sd card. good thing i backed up all my photos first, but better to use the filter option and trim out only the records for files that are no longer on the device.
".thumbdata3--1967290299" now reappears, but a whole lot smaller.
Gallery opens so much faster now, and Entertainment Center works again!
hope it helps!

Thanks for that, but what if the images are not the problem, but music or videos? I have tons of music on my SDCard and I don't know exactly what to delete in that database.
I tried using SDRescan as proposed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28516079&postcount=6, but that didn't help.
I've done some more research and found a solution here: http://www.mobilephonetalk.com/show...in-memory-card&p=311954&viewfull=1#post311954. After I deleted the .thumbdata3 file, created a blank one with Root Explorer and removed write permission to it, the file stays at 0 bytes and Camera and Gallery apps still work fine.

if you still have all the music, deleting entries from the database won't solve anything because they will just be recreated the next time you open gallery.
your fix is probably the best for your situation.
solution... maybe...
Maybe you will find solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35259164&postcount=7

I just want to add, that it's the camera app causing the thumbdata3 to grow, each picture you take. (I verified file size change after taking pictures.) I'm trying the solution by creating the dummy file and making it read only now.

[Q] Re: Allshare Play

I've installed Allshare Play and have it up and running, but I have a few questions I am hoping somebody might be able to answer for me.
1- Everytime I access the local host on the PC, I get a message from my browser saying, "Intranet Settings are turned off by default"
I then have two options: a) Don't Show This Message Again or B)Turn on Intranet Settings. Does anybody know if there is any reason why I should "turn on intranet settings"? IE: Security, etc.
This is the control for content that is accessed on the same network, via wifi. Such as my GT 10.1 through the regular Allshare app or from another PC.
2- There are menus in the app for Music, Video and Files. Under Files, all file types show. However, if I start accessing a media file there, it begins a download bar (doesn't download to my phone permanently unless I choose to.) If I choose from the video menu, no download bar, just a very long wait (even with FIOS internat on my home computer and LTE on my phone). Is this basically doing the same exact thing? Just downloading it enough to view. Music comes on instantly, video obviously takes longer.
3- I can only access files from the AllShare Play app, nothing shows in the gallery. I assume this is correct.
So far it comes in handy and is fun. Definitely makes good use of unlimited data when out. Anybody prefer any other apps that work better, etc. I've heard of Polkast and a few others. Anything more optimized, etc. than Allshare Play?
Thanks!

Download ES file manager and go to SD card >Whatsapp >images then create a file with this name ".nomedia" and done, remember this file will prevent all the content from that folder to appear in gallery and If you no longer want to hide Whatsapp files erase this nomedia file (it will be hidden so you should mark the see hidden files button in the left menu of the app)

Dont know about that see if it is in another folder and do the same
Add a .nomedia file in the Whatsapp folder to stop making sony media apps detecting stuff there. If you can't find a .nomedia file on your device, just google it and download one
