[Q] how can I reverse tether on Ubuntu? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's the deal, I have Ubuntu and 2 wifi cards.
wlan5 is long-range has 192.168.1.42 with internet on 192.168.1.1
wlan3 is internal, connected to my HTC Rezound with 192.168.43.104, and can ping 192.168.43.1, my phone.
I set up a Tether network on my CM10 Rezound because my phone doesn't see AdHoc networks, which is what I usually do to share internet from my laptop.
So I have enabled IP forwarding on my Ubuntu laptop.

(I have ProxyDroid but I've disabled it)
So now I try to ping an external IP, but it doesn't work. It never gets a reply, or doesn't give an error message after about a minute, and then I ^C it.
Now my end goal is to have all my apps use the wifi connection on 192.168.43.104. I know I must have done something wrong, but I cannot figure it out. I've been trying to figure it out by googling, etc, for weeks now, and I thought it was about time to ask here.
If you know a network guru on the forum, please send him a link to this, I really want to get it working.
Also, I will mention I tried using SSH Tunnel (Beta) pointing to my 192.168.43.104 laptop with SSHd running [I can ssh localhost]. It doesn't work, it says it failed to connect. I should note with adb shell, I can SSH into my laptop 192.168.43.104 perfectly, via the wifi tether network.
I think that's it, I hope it wasn't too long that nobody reads it.
Well ANY help would be appreciated. I have tried a few proxy apps, using SOCKS5 pointed at my 192.168.43.104 IP but none of them have worked so far.

I use OpenVPN Settings 0.4.10 downloaded from android market.
Also i have other application FEAT VPN Lite (release 20) also vpn not works.

And you are absolutely sure what you are doing and you need a TAP device?
If you use a TAP device it normally works as port of a bridge. To build a bridged you need at least one additional port (eth0 ?). You then use brctl to create the bridge. The IP address is assigned to to the bridge, not to one of it's ports. For IP routing you need a device with a IP address. Your tap0 device has no IP address hence no routing.
Again: are you sure you would like to create a layer 2 bridge? Don't you just want to access your server(s) from your mobile using OpenVPN? If the latter is the case then change your setup to use a TUN device.

ICS Wired and Wireless connected at the same time?

I have a rooted ICS tablet with wireless and RJ45 ethernet which both work well on their own. However once the Wifi is turned on and connected the lan is unusable. The lan (eth0) doesn't even list under ifconfig when the wifi is connected. For example... (loopback device removed from each)
With wifi on (and connected) and no ethernet cable plugged in. Static Lan config details entered.

The eth0 device disappears once you connect the RJ45 cable to the switch?! Strange indeed.
Check the log using "dmesg" when this happens. It might give you some clues about what the kernel is up to during this.
Check what chip-set your device is using for networking. If you are unlucky, it's a combined chip for wifi and cable, only able to maintain one network stack / physical interface simultaneously. You'll find this in the kernel log as well.

Ok. The eth0 device closes down once the link transits to up. What if you try re-enabling eth0 with the link already up (i.e. already connected to the switch)?
# ifconfig eth0 up
It may be unlisted by ifconfig because it's down. "ifconfig -a" lists all interfaces, up as well as down, but it's dependent of which ifconfig you are using. The toolbox/busybox versions may be quite striped.

Android and iptables

This is a newbie question about the android firewall. When I list the chains on my linux PC I get just three: INPUT, FORWARD, OUTPUT, I know what these mean. But when I do the same thing on my android device, there is a lot of weird stuff, like penalty_box, oem_fwd, natctrl_FORWARD, fw_INPUT, costly_shared, bw_INPUT etc. I've tried researching this on the web but without any luck. - Can anybody tell me what it all means, or where to find information?

I use UMTS manager with USB stick Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E169/E620/E800 HSDPA Modem
I use KatKiss 5.1.1 # 23: Linux localhost [email protected]_5.1-lite+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Mar 29 20:01:49 EDT 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux
The connection is successful and the device is assigned an IP address and a DNS, but no browser connects.
Only from terminal I am sure the Internet connection is working, but only as root:

What can I do?
