[Q] "Unable to mount /data" When performing wipes/cache clears/installing - HTC Droid DNA

I am on an HTC Droid DNA (unlocked bootloader), S-ON, with TWRP recovery (I can also flash CWM). I want to install ANY ROM in order to get my phone back to working order. I have tried installing a ROM.zip through recovery (yes, I flashed respective boot.img) but I get an "unable to mount /data" when attempting. When I go into TWRP -> Mount -> Mount data (checkbox) I cannot select the option. Basically I am at a stale mate. I need to mount the data in order to install a ROM, but I cannot mount the data...

update?

I am having the same problem. Were you ever able to find a solution?

I would suggest trying this in hboot from terminal:
fastboot erase cache
If that doesn't help, then try a different recovery version.
Hopefully you don't have corrupt blocks in your data partition.
You could also try installing an Aosp Rom, as they don't typically mount or install anything to the data partition.

[Q] /data is encrypted, so CWM can't mount /sdcard from zip installing

Hi!
I used to run CyanogenMod 9.1 with device encryption on my Galaxy S3, and decided today that I wanted to try a CM 10 nightly.
A problem with device encryption that I didn't know about before is that it's impossible to turn off. ClockworkMod Recovery (5.8.4.3) can't mount the /data partition (and, by extension, /sdcard). This means that I can't use CWM to factory reset or install a new update.zip, since the update.zip must lie on the internal sdcard.
Trying "choose zip from sdcard" gives "E:Can't mount /sdcard/" and choosing "apply /sdcard/update.zip" gives "E:Can't mount /sdcard/update.zip". This happens even if I've used adb to put the update.zip in the /sdcard mountpoint.
Factory resetting from CWM gives these two errors: "Error mounting /data!" and "Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!". Factory resetting from CM9 didn't work. I've since tried to flash CM10 with MobileOdin, which didn't work, and now I can only boot to CWM.
Does anyone have any idea about how I could mount /data or otherwise get a working ROM? I've taken backups of everything.
TL;DR: S3 only boots to CWM, but CWM won't mount /data and so can't flash zips.
I have the exact smae problem. i hope someone knows how to fix!!

[Q] E:Unable to mount /sdcard after rom install and bootloop

Before I make things worse, can someone let me know what did I do / doing wrong. I was on Sinister v8, trying to update to v11 of the same rom, using TWRP 2.3.1.0, i did a full full wipe,(Factory, System, Ex Storage, Internal Storage), copied new files to sdcard, reboot into recovery, Install zip (v11) from SD card, reboot....bootloop.
Then I went to try it again, remembering that i may need to extract boot.img and use fastboot but couldn't even access the filesystem. In TWRP I see a bunch of
Code:
E:Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E:Unable to recreate android secure folder
E:Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E:Unable to mount internal storage.
...
E:Unable to mount /sdcard when trying to read settings file...

I'm able to format data/system partitions via TWRP, but can't mount sdcard to get anything on it. I'm pretty sure i'll need to recreate/format the partitions. Any other steps I could try? (I have a backup from 12/31/2012 on my desktop cpu but can't get it on to the phone). I'm good with wiping everything and starting over with this phone if I knew how.

Fixed. Here's what I did.
Mounted via TWRP
Reformatted drive in Windows (desktop)
Copied new ROM zip to drive
copied boot.img (from rom zip) to drive
Wiped, Installed ROM via TWRP
Rebooted to bootloader
Applied boot.img via fastboot
Rebooted
worked.

Can't remember on the older versions, but on the newer versions the mount option is on the main menu.

I know the mount menu, but what do you click after that, you just plug in and it turns on mount? Sorry i don't have the device in front of me, only a Nexus 4 as of now, but I'm not able to mount with N4, might be a different deal with the evo lte.
I had this same issue a few weeks back from Factory Reseting within the bootloader. I connected the phone to a USB port, then booted into TWRP and mounted the internal sd card. Right clicked the drive from within Windows then formatted it. I unmounted then rebooted back into TWRP and the SD card was mounted. If when trying to flash a ROM after this you get a Unable to mount cache message, try doing a Factory Reset from within TWRP.

You plug your phone in to your PC and select "Mount", then select which storage you'd like to mount.
still can't get to work
Still can't mount /sdcard. I can get into TRWP I have gone into Windows (I am on a MAC) and formatted the drive (is FAT32 the correct way?) When I try mounting the partitions, I can't select SD-ext nor Internal, is this why I can't fix this? I was able to send boot.img through ADB, just testing if this works. I could use some help before I have to turn this over to Sprint and pay for a replacement. I tried Chris V's solution but that didn't do anything. can't factory resest in TWRP cause can't load the /sdcard.

i have the same problem but, can you make your fix more precise. i mean,
1. what did you mount via twrp? are those cache, data, eemc, system, sdcard, sd-ext? cause i can't mount them all except cache, i can't even click the box with X.
2. i've also reformatted my drive (sdcard) through my windows 7 and make it to exfat.
and all the time i do the wipe of everything that have to be wipe it always says: factory reset failed!

A better bet would be to post in the forum for your particular device. I'm not familiar with the Flare S3 Octa, but basically the steps should be the same. What you want to mount is the "System" and/or the "SD Card". You can transfer to those partitions. Another good rule of thumb is to make sure you're using the latest recovery available. When all else fails, you may need to do a complete reset via an RUU.

[Q] Getting data off the phone

So my phone is in a bootloop. I flashed CWM recovery via Odin to try to mount the internal storage since i have some things i need to recover before flashing new rom. in CWM under "mounts and storage" i tried everything, but nothing would show up in a computer. Also, mounting system says "Error mounting system" and adb devices doesn't recognize my device now with CWM. it did with stock recovery though, when put in adb mode
edit: flashed original revocery, got adb working, found some adbfileexplorer.jar file from the forums, that shows my device and some files/folders, eg /efs, /preload , cache etc. so they are not the files i'm looking for.
And when writing adb shell in cmd, i get "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -" error
Try philz recovery and aroma file manager to access the data partition.
A sudden boot loop in normal use usually means one or more of the partitions are corrupt, so you may not be able to access data.

Ok well now i got to use adb and via command "adb pull /" i pulled everything there was (This is the right command to do it, right?)
but only two folders, sys and tmp were pulled, none of which contain any relevant data, it would appear

(Solved) Can't mount /sdcard in recovery.

Android Version 4.4.2
S-on
Bootloader Unlocked
Philzrecovery
No system or data
I can't mount my sdcard in recovery to get to the backup I made of my previous rom. So as of right now I'm in recovery mode waiting for help.
Getting "E:Can't mount /sdcard" error
Edit1: tried reflashing philzrecovery to see if if that was the problem. It didn't fix it.
Edit2: Formatted /sdcard in recovery. I can mount it now. Now all I need is a .zip file. (I hope)
Edit3: Sideloading .zip
Final edit: it's all good! I formatted everything in recovery (system, data, sdcard) then transferred a Rom successfully via adb. Flashed it, and all is well!
How about now?

[GUIDE] Factory Reset Encrypted Device

THIS PROCESS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA
I encrypted my HTC ONE MAX last day and because of TWRP error in decrypting my partitions,Like:
Code:
Mount /SYSTEM.error
Mount /DATA error
I decided to decrypte my phone but as I said, TWRP recovery Didn't found any partion on my internal strong.
The solution is simple :
1.Download stock HTC stock recovery :
Stock Recovery Sense 6 - Latest
Stock recovery 3.23.401.1 (Google Drive Download Link) (it's for international version - Find more in other threads)
2.Boot into bootloader -> Fastboot
Use your ADB :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_t6ul-3.23.401.1.img
3. Go to your Setting -> Backup & Reset and Reset Your device
your device will reboot and recovery will ERASE ALL YOUR DATA
Now You have Non-encrypted Device
4.in final step you could flash TWRP again Like:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-t6ul.img
Another option is using TWRP...
Go into the Wipe settings,
Select Format Data,
Type Yes when prompt
And when is complete, complete a Factory Reset under the Wipe settings.
Don't forget that it will wipe internal storage so you will need to have a copy of the ROM on the external storage to flash..
