Unlock Lumia 620 like 710/800? - Nokia Lumia 800

I currently have a Lumia 710 (Orange UK) which I use with Virgin UK. However, I have just made the plunge to buy a Lumia 620 which comes locked on o2 UK.
Is there a way to unlock the Lumia 620 like there is the 710/800? i.e. flash a bootloader and install a custom ROM?
or should I resort to changing contracts to o2/Tesco/GiffGaff?
Thank you all for any help/advice you can give me! :highfive:

The model number of the phone (RM-846) isn't showing up on Nokia Care Suite. I guess firmware isn't available yet then!

They show up for me today. Only I don't know which one to pick, there are hundreds of variants. Any ideas for the most generic one valid on UK networks?

Hi,
No any way to unlock Lumia 610 now...
About firmware - pick one that matches to your phone's Product Code.
BTW, if you want to change the boot-loader to OSBL QUALCOMM - use ATF Flasher
it can change boot-loaders via TP. =)

Thats great. I'll take a look later today. Might flash a generic firmware to get rid of the o2 Branding.

so is it possible to sim unlock this device? i bought one but i havent opened it yet in case i cant unlock it.

I picked up the Lumia 620 on the O2 deal to play around with and requested an unlock code which O2 have sent me so can use other SIM's now and tested it with an Orange SIM.
It didn't cost me anything to get it unlocked as I am an iPhone pay monthly customer already.
The problem now is the branding. I downloaded the Nokia Care Suite and flashed the generic firmware which put it to stock but it mentioned something about the product code not being specified however it all worked fine but unsure how it would effect updates in the future.
The product code is 059R788 which looking at the firmware matches the O2 branded one so will future updates still have to wait for O2 if they are based on product codes?
For now I flashed it back to the O2 firmware using the Nokia Care Suite as there are not any updates available to check.
Cheers!

Are you able to advise how you got O2 to unlock your PAYG Lumia 620 as I asked over chat last night and they wouldn't have any of it...even though I told the I (well my wife) has an O2 iPhone contract...!?!? Their policy is based on the phone being owned for 12-months or more before being unlocked, not the PAYG SIM or Pay Monthly contract...
I threatened them with leaving and referenced the fact Vodafone would do it at any time on PAGY for £20...!!!
They've told me to ring support on 4445 directly to discuss...
Any thoughts?
Judging by the comments above, the 620 cannot yet be unlocked via firmware?

How / Where / Who can Unlock the SGII from networks like O2 etc in UK ?
O2 will unlock after 12 months otherwise you have to wait until unlocking is worked out after the phone has been launched .

I work for o2 and as long as it is a contract phone and not pay as you go, you can unlock it anytime by either completing the online form (google o2 'unlockmyiphone') or by calling customer services and requesting them to fill out the form for you. It can take up to 14days for you to receive the code.
Failing that, there are numerous IMEI unlocking websites online who will send the code within 24hours for a small fee.
Regards.

I am presuming that it will not need unlocking to use a Giffgaff network sim as its part of O2 .
Three O2 shops today no stock and no idea if they will receive stock for launch 1st may .

You could use a Rebel Simcard. It's not the best solution but it definately does the job. I used one on my Dell Streak when they were exclusive to O2.
I take it you're getting it as an upgrade direct from O2?
If not open a contract with O2 through Phones4U and you'll get an unlocked device

It is £399 with O2 but will probably be locked
I also asked a popular online unlocking firm what the chances are of unlocking this handset and this was their reply:
This should be no problem at all. That's because there's one main database for all European Samsung Android handsets. We have unlocked the Samsung Galaxy S from all 6 main UK networks.

I don't know if the database will work for SGS II. Anyone know?
I have no previous contract, so just buy o2 payg £399 & unlock £15? (Total=£414)
Why would anyone pay £499 unlocked ?

Because at this stage, nobody is really sure that the 'unlock £15' part of the process will indeed work You could end up with a phone that will not currently work on the sim you may have ( I do understand you have no contract, so if you are happy with O2 payg, fill yer boots).

My Vodafone HD2 came unlocked - that wasn't the problem. The killer was that because it was a Vodafone phone, it could only take updates from Vodafone, and their updates came months after the unbranded ones. Once the Devs got HSPL all sorted out then it wasn't so much of a problem, but that didn't happen overnight.
So be aware - it's not just the network locking that's an issue when you buy a phone from a network.

Thanks for the heads up. I think O2 don't mess around with their handsets. Only Orange, T-Mobile & Vodafone.

This was the same with the first batch of O2 HD2's only accepting O2 specific updates which they changed after the second batch went out as were getting too many complaints. Hopefully they've learned from this and will allow standard manufacturer updates from the start. This wasn't due to particular messing around it was due to the serial numbers being registered with the manufacturer as not being generic therefore updates were refused by them. I doubt Samsung are quite as good as HTC with the regular updates but always good to know you can update when it's available.

Here's a response I received from a query I made of an eBay seller in relation to unlocking the SGS2...
"This is GUARANTEE TO WORK because this code is directly from Samsung and it is permanent. After you unlocked it, you can do software update or anything you like and it will still be unlocked."
Sounds promising...
It does but would like to know for sure before buying.

Successful unlock?
Did anyone hear about any successful SGS2 unlock?
I also read in some places that when you buy PNG from O2 it is SIM free. This was the case when I bought an iPhone 4 when it came out. It was SIM free out of the box.
just either get CPW to price match which they are supposedly doing at £399, or waith two weeks as they are goint to that price soon.
This is very stupid from me but as with the SGS, would it be possible to retrieve the bml3.bak file and unlock?
I'm just assuming samsung is using the same method of hiding the Network Control Key.. maybe they're lazy..

Unlocking Orange UK Lumia 800...

Hi all!
My friend was bought a Lumia 800 for Christmas, but its locked to Orange and he does not have an Orange sim.
I have had a look on a few sites stating they can unlock it, but 2 have failed to do so so far!
And having to wait a week+ each time to see if its worked is just getting on my tits!
Anyone know of a place I can get an actual working unlock code
Cheers

Check ##782# in the dialer and it will tell you if it's definitely sim locked or not.
Get him to contact Orange and request them to unlock it. Maybe say you're going on holiday somewhere for a month...
This site could unlock it.
As it is early days it is expensive to unlock it due to certain technical restrictions. See this thread for an explanation and more discussion on sim unlocking.
Will check if its locked in a min, but im pretty sure it is.
Will try orange if the current unlocker i have orderd from does not deliver the code today!
I have tried UnlockLiberty.com and currently trying unlockitnow.com!
I expect it to be expensive to be honest but as long as we can actually get it unlocked in the first place would be a start
Cheers matey

Orange can unlock it as long as you know the original mobile number that it came with. It will take upto 30 days and cost £20.42p. So if you can get it done elsewhere it'll be quicker and cheaper.

It's a small circuit board that sits between the SIM and the phone, they generally cost a couple of quid, and somehow do work.

Well i have orderd a GEVEY TURBO SIM adapter to see if it will also work in our Nokia.

Worth a shot anyway! haha
the reason no one is getting unlock codes from the suppliers mentioned for lumia on orange or tmobile uk is because the lumia is actually locked to a new hybrid orange/tmobile mcc+mnc network.
phones locked to this network are not locked to tmobile or orange, they are actually locked to both networks, try both sims and you will see for yourself, that the phone will take sims from both networks, but not any other.
T-Mobile and Orange UK have merged recently.
They have started locking newer NOKIA handsets to a new MERGED network MNC+MCC
NEW T-Mobile / Orange UK Merge Lock uses MNC+MCC = 2343300190233141
Older Standard Orange UK uses MNC+MCC = 2343300000000000
Older Standard T-Mobile UK uses MNC+MCC = 2343000000000000
*
Known models with hybrid lock
Nokia Lumia 700 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia Lumia 710 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia Lumia 800 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia E7-00 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
*
What About Other Nokia Models?
There will be more models released soon that will require this service too.*
Remember these are newer Nokia handsets, you wont need it for older models.
*
How to Check if Other Nokia is Locked To This New Network.
There are 2 ways to check orange and tmobile nokia handsets. to see if they are truly locked to the new orange/t-mobile uk network or are actually locked to the standard Orange UK or standard T-Mobile UK networks
*
Method 1.
Try both a t-mobile sim and an orange sim in the nokia phone
if the phone accepts BOTH SIMS = locked to new T-Mobile/Orange hybrid network
if only the orange sim works = locked to Orange UK network
if only the t-mobile sim works = locked to T-Mobile UK network
*
Method 2.
Read phone info using usb cable and this software
(software requires nokia pc suite installed first for drivers, full video guide @ the bottom of this page: http://www.imeicodes.co.uk/instruction/nokia.php)
If it displays config key 2343300190233141 = locked to new T-Mobile/Orange hybrid network*
If it displays config key 2343300000000000 = locked to Orange UK network
If it displays config key 2343000000000000 = locked to T-Mobile UK network
Which begs the question, are there actually any solutions yet? If we can't get unlock codes off Orange nor T-Mobile, as the 800 is locked to both, who do we get the codes off?
Ive tried sim-unlock.net and unlockdata.co.uk with no success. anyone else have other places to order from?
fonefun, thanks for the update on the carrier situation.
Does this mean that the database is only accessable by T-Mobile and Orange at the minute or do unlocking sites have access to the algorithm/codes too?

we have tested around 12 imeis before we put the service live. so yes you will start to see this service on other codes site as our resellers catchup to speed on this very new service.
the service is online already for single code buyers for the tmobile/orange hybrid network locked nokia handsets on the imeicodes website mentioned earlier in this thread. they take about a week to process at the moment. look for the "Special T-Mobile UK / Orange UK Nokia Unlock Codes" service on the prices page
Hi Fonefun,
Got a Lumia 800 from e-bay not sure if Orange or the hybrid network.
I can't seem to get the Nokia BB5 usb utility to read the phone config key. I tried the 2.5 version too.
The lumia doesn't use the nokia suite but Zune. I installed both with no success. I tried on both a Win7 and Win XP machine. The phone is recognised in Zune but not the utility.
Any advice would be welcome.
Jon
all lumia on orange or tmobile are hybrid
you wont be able to read the lock area using that software, because the lumia is different and cant be read by anything at the moment.
we read an e7-00 ok though with it, this is how we discovered the hybrid. after trying 2 sims in the e7-00 we confirmed this was the case.
so we got the lumias and tried orange and tmobile sims in them, and yes both worked, but any other sim did not, so we sumarised that the lumias are also locked to the hybrid network, we got the new hybrid codes for them and unlocked them, we tried on 800 lumia, our sources tell us all lumia are the same lock types for tmobile and orange also.
we put the link on for the code reading software to enable people to check newish handsets too because we simply dont have the handsets to try ourselves, so there may be more...

Windows 8 Update Portico

Bypass carriers, yes. Bypass OEMs, no
This should mean that we get a 920 update for each "build" of the 920 that exists, once Nokia does whatever they do to it. They should have it from Microsoft (one would think) already.

They will have it already, and it's in Nokia's interests to get it out fast and ideally beat HTC to the punch every time, as HTC have been set up as Premier Partners. Nokia want to be THE choice for WP8 buyers, so they need to be there first with the best reputation for updates and excellent hardware.
Nokia obviously has that build available because the Lumia 920T (the chinese variant) is already running that newer build of the OS.
true, must just be waiting for the rollout ok from carriers. I'll check my 8X to see if that's updating on EE, that way we should know if the carriers are slowing things down or not with a quick carrier vs unlocked update speed comparison.
(Groan) I hope it's not the carriers. Pulling teeth with oily fingers is easier than persuading AT&T to release updates in a timely manner. :\

how do you know what rom is a generic one? I have been searching but i haven´t find it yet. can you help me'

Adding to that, does 4G still work on the generic UK ROM, as EE has 4G specific software bits, e.g. the 3G/2G toggle is now the 4G/3G toggle.
So, since I have a Rogers branded but unlocked phone and running it on Telus, what bucket would I be put in? Would I get the generic updates or the Rogers? My phone STILL says that the Mobile Operator Name is ROG-CA, so I'm not too sure what to make of my situation.

You will be under the mercy of Rogers. In order to get out of Roger's grip, you will need to be de-branded. SIM unlock means nothing. In the old days of WM7.0, you can jailbreak your phone and edit a registry to de-brand. Now, you pretty much have to flash a unbranded ROM to do it.

According to the current threads covering this subject there are no codes released for the 920 yet. In fact there is about a 4 month back log and most of the sites that offer codes are scams.

my 920 AT&T is unlocked, I bought it that way, when I asked the seller how did he get to unlock it he responded:
"I get that question a lot here on ebay, I buy these phones already unlocked"

I can send you the eBay name of the seller, as he/she sells a lot of unlocked lumia 920
Need Help From AT&T Customer.
To the OP
you need to make sure from AT&T or even Tmobile will check if the IMEI is in the Blocked list they have now in effect. If it is in the "LOST/STOLEN" list or Fraud from insurance claims or something like that that IMEI is blocked in the united states.
If so, no way no how will AT&T give you the unlock code.
If you device happens to be on that list, you may just have to wait until unlockers get a way of doing it.
Or buy a Verizon, 822 they already come Sim Unlocked.
Good LUck
or htc 8x verizon,
or a Rogers lumia

well i dont have an active at&t account, if anything i willing to check for you is if its in a black list or not. you can either load your IMEI here or if you feel more comfortable PM me. then i can call them and check status. after they give me the status i can give you the feedback they gave me.
you decide.

Have you not read any of the other post regarding unlock codes for this phone? Even if you are an ATT customer the back log for unlock codes is right now nearly a year. All the websites that claim they have them are nothing but scams that will steal your money.
To put it bluntly, there are currently no unlock codes. No one other than those paid by or working for those scam sites have reported getting an unlock code that works. You have to own the phone through a contract with ATT and wait the full term of the contract which is 2 years before ATT will even consider giving you a code and then they still have to get it from Nokia whom may or may not agree to release it.

[Q] Unlocked Lumia 920 and updates

Hi guys am new to the whole WP thing so please bare with me.
I bought an EE Lumia 920 and got an unlock code ( because I'm going abroad) from ebay which seems to work properly. Now the question is what happens to firmware updates??? I mean do I still get EE firmware updates if I'm using my phone on other networks???

Since the device is still EE branded: yes. You have to wait for EE to release an update to get OTA Updates.
You can, as far as I know, flash an unbranded ROM to your device using Nokia Care Suite, however.

Hey Bawfar, just to let you know, I was/am in exactly the same position. I bought outright my LUMIA 920 last year in the UK and moved less than 1 week later to Cyprus. I unlocked my device at that time from unlockfrog and it cost me £50. I have since used a CYTA sim card and its been fine and have received updates when they have been released by EE. If you need to ask anything else let me know and I'll do what I can to help you out.
