[Q] Problem after loading Siyah Kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have an S2 which I installed JB v5.. On to and all seemed OK except I had an issue with the screen going blank during calls. I posted a ? On the forum and some suggested Siyah Kernel which I downloaded to solve the prob......... Prob now is when ever I reboot it comes up with System UI has stopped. This in itself isn't a real issue because I can use CWM and reboot back to original back up of ICS.
My question is why would this be happening, is it a matter of just trying another Kernel (to solve my original prob of the blank screen)
I would like to keep Siyah and use JB if possible as they appear good but I am very new to all this so any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks

JB = JellyBam..? Which version of Siyah did you try? It's important you flash the right one Look at the changelog on www.gokhanmoral.com.

In the CWM try to wipe dalvik, wipe cache, file permission, wipe factory reset. then restart again

Why do a factory reset if it's just a kernel/flash-issue? It seems he just flashed the wrong version.

Try kernel v4 instead. If you still have issues you will need to wipe data/factory reset. You can backup everything via Titanium Backup Pro.
If you still have issues you will need to use a kernel/rom cleaning script like these. Once you have cleaned rom/kernel of old leftover files you can do a fresh install of rom then kernel.

getting wifi to work on glitch 13.1?

hey guys i hope i put this in the right section... anyways, i was using cm7.1 stable on my fascinate with the stock kernel that came with it, which was awesome i must say. but recently i decided to try out the glitch kernel 13.1 as ive heard its even faster and overclocks better. and it is lol, its reallllll freakin fast but now my wifi wont work. worked perfectly on the other kernel but now when i hit the button to turn on the wifi, nothing happens, it kinda lights up and just stays there and wifi never turns on. does anyone have any work arounds for this? i really want to keep this kernel because its damn stable and fast but wifi is my only issue.
thanks guys
toggle airplaine mode off/on
Make a Nandroid, the wipe data. (restore the Nandroid if it doesn't work) I had this problem on my Iconia Tab after I did a dirty flash.
am I reflashing the kernel or cm7? I tried to airplane mode toggle and it just says error when I try to enable wifi in the settings menu
Don't reflash anything, just wipe data & dalvik.
did nandroid backup and cleared dalvik and did factory wipe, still no dice. am i missing something? did i get a corrupted kernel install file or something?

I've seen this before... I only have a minute to type this. There is a kernel cleaning script you can get.. by lippol I believe. Sorry to send you on the hunt. If that don't work, backup all your apps/data and do a full wipe (just wipe, not flash) on the phone and reflash kernel.
-Maniac
what does a kernel cleaning script do? theres an option to clean the kernel in the glitch kernel, is that the same? ive reflashed the glitch kernel too after reclearing dalvik and factory reset and still no wifi. would using a kernel cleaner do anything after reflashing?
ok i decided to go ahead and try the script, i was able to find it without a problem. cleared cache, ran it, and reflashed a redownloaded kernel and........ it works!! thanks so much guys!

Freezing on Me At All Times

Pretty much copy and paste, but I have updated it with latest info.
geokilla said:
So this is weird... In four days, the ROM or phone has froze on me about half a dozen times now. The first time when I was setting it up by as I had just done a flash of the ROM. While setting it up, the phone decided to suddenly slow down all of a sudden to a crawl, up to the point where everything started to get washed out and freeze on me. Force restart by holding Volume Up + Power was the only solution to fix it. Just now, my sister had it connected to her computer and was transferring music over into the internal SD when suddenly, the same thing happened. Again, only solution was to force restart. Anyone have this happen to them before? Everything is completely stock except that we're on Dorimanx 5.3 kernel. Then the other times, it would either slow down and freeze in the CWM Recovery Menu, or when she is texting, playing games, etc. There aren't that many apps installed at all. Reflash of kernel doesn't solve the problem.

Could it be that I need to flash the phone with official ICS + bootloader + PIT? I jumped straight from stock Gingerbread to custom ICS.

try doing a wipe data/factory reset as that is normally a fix to these kind of problems. Also clear cache and dalvik and that should fix the problem!

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100%sure about what you are doing. That's probably the easiest way to bork your device.
Edit: try flashing a different kernel. Try dark knight or fluxi. I think it would solve your issues

I would get an official rom, and flash it with odin, (no repartition is required) then install your fav. custom rom
just my 2 cents

I can't wipe data/factory reset in CWM for some reason when I first tried to install the custom ROM. Never tried again... I wonder if it's because my I9100 is brickable.
I have cleared cache and dalvik cache but no luck. It even slowed down and froze in CWM Recovery.

I know what I'm doing. Flashed with PIT many times before on my Captivate. Haven't tried PIT on her I9100 though. I haven't broken my phone with PIT yet, even though there's quite a few PITs out there lol.
I've read of others running the same combo as me, but they're fine so I wonder what else could cause this...

The ICS ROM from the Q&A Sticky should work right? Her I9100 is brickable so.... Gotta be careful.
Flash a stock rom, go to sammobile.com and find one then try again?

If I helped you press thanks!
format cache/data/system , then make all wipes , then put your phone in download mode , flash a stock ROM from samfirmware.com , then root your phone !
Running the latest Dorimanx 5.5 kernel and still getting the same problem. In fact, I noticed that if you set it to Performance under Kernel Tweaks in Recovery, the problem is more apparent. Setting it to default causes the issue too.

[Q] Need Help

guys i have a funny issue wonder if i can get some help. I flashed FlappJaxx Beta 3 and had a bad down load or something so anyway tons of reboots and nothing just the non stop vibrate.. well i i finally got it back to the down load screen after pulling the battery several times. and got it Odin back to unrooted and turn on followed the unroot instruction well i left it stock and have had same issue where i click something and it flashes and just vibrates over and over until i pull battery.. well is this phone dead is there a fix?
I odin back again and same thing im going to odin back to stock again then do a stock root and flash another room but its doing the stupid reboot over and over vibrate thing even with the non-rooted stock rom. i just can't seem to find any direction on how to fix this or is it just a lost cause. wanted it to hold on till Note 2 hit shelves but looks like a s3 in my futures.
OK didnt work still FC and boot looping this time i installed Kies and put in download mode and updated the firmware and im getting same thing. GOSH DOGGIT hahaha.. Yea i need some advise i tried everything ive read i must be missing something somewhere.
i guess no one has ever had this before? still no solution i have tried everything format the internal disc but want to know if i do that will i be able to flash odin back to stock any help there?

First of all, I'm no pro at this stuff but I feel your pain.
It sounds like you are getting stuck in a boot loop of sorts.
What I would do if I was you, after flashing a rom, go back into Recovery mode on the phone and clear out the cache partion, wipe Dalvik cache, and then wipe data/factory reset. After that, reboot your phone - it should start up normally. This is what I do to my phone to get it to function as it should.
Hope that helps
i went in to the advance tab and formatted everything hahah.. it juts wiped and odin back to stock again bout to wipe it and try to odin root see if i can get it done. worth a try ive tried to much stuff im bout to take phone out get my 338 tape to a zombie target and have some fun!

Agreed ...
When returning to stock via Odin ...you must reboot into your recovery and wipe data and factory reset the device prior to rebooting.
Even though you wiped prior to flashing the stock Odin .tar image.
These devices stay dirty even after wiping data on occasion ...g

oh really? wow i didnt even think about that im wiping again and flashing odin to stock but this time after it boots i will wipe factory reset. then root factory reset and fix permissions. thank for the help!
Always welcome ....
Fixing permissions is overlooked a lot ...
And the wrong permissions will cause FC's all over the build ..
I always fix permissions after any flash or modification ....it's just a good habit to get into ...IMHO ...g

[Q] Problems flashing due to factory reset

Hi guys,
First off, I am new here, so this may not be the best place for this question.
Now, for my question. I have a galaxy s2 and I have tried flashing the Neat Rom on it. However, it always end up in a bootloop. I think the reason is that the factory reset option in ClockWorkmod from rom manager DOES NOT delete all the data in my phone.
So the questions are:
1) Does the data in my phone (like photos etc) need to be deleted to ensure a smooth install?
2) If yes, then how do I make sure when I am in recovery mode (is that what it is called?), the factory reset deletes ALL data.
3) Is this the only thing that causes the bootloop (I have followed all the steps that need to be followed, including wiping data)
I am pretty desperate for flashing a new ROM, because my stock one devours battery.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Saltymount

Wipe cache and dalvik cache and after flashing, if it bootloops, take battery out, boot to recovery and flash it again.
It helped for me.

Well thanks for taking time to help me with that, but I tried it already and it didn't help. Basically what I need is to be able to COMPLETELY wipe the data off my phone before I flash the ROM. My assumption is that, as I said before, the data in my phone is not being wiped away. This is so as, after flashing back stock ROM with Odin (after the bootloop) , all my data, like files, photos etc is all there. And I have read up some information about flashing and I do realise that you cannot have any data on the phone before flashing because the new OS(?) cannot read it or something.
Anyway thanks,
Saltymount

Hey monkeybanaana,
After a lot of different tries (millions maybe), and sighing and convincing myself that your method will not work, I just gave it a shot. And what do you, know it worked! Thanks man, I am trying out Neatrom for s2 right now.
Thanks again,

[Q] Stuck on boot screen

I know you guys have had a lot of these questions, but I need help.
I rooted my S2 the other day with jeboo kernel v1.2a I believe. I installed CWM v0.99 aswell. It was all working fine until I went on to the Superuser app on my phone and said something about binary needed updating. So I continued thinking nothing off it. But now my phone is stuck in the boot loop and I don't really know what to do... I have looked around for answers but I am quite confused by it all.
I cannot enter recovery mode but I can enter download mode. I tried installing the jeboo kernel again but nothing happened. I was going to try installing a stock kernel but I don't know what version my phone is.
All of this probably doesn't make sense because to be honest, I don't really know what I'm talking about...
I would greatly appreciate any help!
Thanks.
Download stock rom from Samfirmware, flash with Odin = clean slate. How ? Thread stickied near top of Q&A.
flash another kernel

Could you explain what emmc brickbug is?
I don't really want to perform a factory reset - is it recommended to do one?
Thanks.
Edit: Downloaded emmc brickbug check from the play store. Says"NO. Sane chip." I'm guessing that's good news?
there is no risk of emmc bug

emmc brickbug is a bug with internal storage(internal storage chip)witch makes phone dead if you perform a wipe data/factory reset with CWM or restore a nandroid backup(mostly with ICS 4.04 ROMs)it happens to some Samsung phones(edit:even S3 but in different case it causes sudden death[it also means phone dead but it happens even if you didn't perform wipe data or restore nandroid backup]from no reason).
But since your phone is sane chip, you are LUCKY,there is absolutely no risk of emmc brickbug.
Only perform wipe data/factory reset in case of bootloop (especially when flashing new ROM)or when the phone hangs.
Sorry for bad english.
