Hi all... has anyone else had an issue with red-eye pictures that are taken? It's not as if it's in every other picture, it's in every-single-one! I've searched around this board and haven't found anything so I just wanted to put out a feeler in case anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks!
I don't have any problem. Do you have the flash on while taking the picture? That may help.
Flash reflected from the back of your eyes is causing it, if your pupils are opened. That's how our eyes are made. Has nothing to do with phone. Cameras have a setting to fight that, the flash actually fires first before taking a picture, so your pupils shrink from bright light and thus no red eye (no reflection from the back of your eye through a wide open pupil). Anytime in less than bright light you take a picture with flash, it will happen, more with some people than others....

If you're referring to the flash then I would have to totally disagree. I think this is the dullest I have seen on any phone I have owned.

Then you haven't seen an SGS 2 or SGS 3 flash. Use the lights next to each other. I can completely drown the light from the HTC as soon as I turn on the SGS 3 flashlight. I do not have a defective handset, me and my brother in law both have the DNA and both are identical with the LED. Samsung CRAP all over HTC for sheer brightness. They have a bright white light vs a dull yellow light of the HTC. Even my Nexus 4 has a better flash. I have never had a phone with a LED this dull. It was literally the 1 and only thing I found that I can say I prefer the SGS 3. Nothing else for me is close. I love my DNA way more than my SGS 3 and Nexus 4. I'm not saying that the flash on the HTC is worse for taking lowlight pics and vids, I'm just saying that it is nowhere near as bright. Ask anybody that has both handsets

After debating this exact topic with several people I know, we tested to see which one was actually better, and after testing 3 SGSIIIs and 4 DNAs, it was fairly obvious that the DNA was brighter. Its not any huge difference, but the DNA is noticeably brighter.

I have my SGS 3 in my left hand and my DNA in my right hand using LED Flashlight from the market. I can 100% make the DNA light disappear by shining the SGS 3 light on to the same spot It's easy to tell because the SGS 3 has a white light over the yellow light of the DNA. In my eyes, that would make it brighter!

lost my sensation 8(
Asurion tmobile insurance) sent me a refurb AMAZE even though i was told id get a NEW phone, i specifically asked when buying the insurance.
besides the light bleed the screen is just ****, i can see each pixel and the color shifts when looking at it in the best viewing angles like dead on and very slightly turning it like less that 2degreee turn
are all amaze like this or do i have a cheap chinese replacement screen that flickers when i scroll through the setting menu also.
thanks for any responses you guys are amazing
another note, the 4.3 screen was the perfect size on the sensation but on the amaze is seems too small for the phones size, anyone agree
49 amaze owners looked but didnt comment so far.
starting to think only my phone is like this
I have no complaints about my screen. Color, viewing angles, etc
I can't see how you can possibly see the each pixel, not without a magnify glass.
You have a duff one. I don't think i've seen one single complaint about the amaze screen other than a dead pixel.
All (or at least most of) the Amaze's have some light bleed issues with the buttons. It's annoying, but I don't find it a deal breaker. As for being able to see the pixels, I don't have that problem. You might try playing around with the display settings. You might also call Asurion and complain.

Yes the screen bleed is an issue, an hardware issue but at least you can turn the key LEDs off. Most hardware issues can't be solved.
Personally i wouldn't class it as a screen issue, just bad design for not blocking the key LEDs.
can't really see pixels.
color shift... more like contrast shift? you can say it's like the inferior display that you find in the mytouch 4g or the sensation where they have 2 different displays.
I wonder if they're gonna have another manufacturer in the future where they have a good display *crosses fingers*
the flicker.. not sure about that? like is the display itself flickering or are you noticing the letter's sharpness that doesn't seem to move smoothly because of the high dpi.
Could you guys do a "dmesg" through terminal and search for "panel" and find where it says panel type and tell us if it says AUO or a different name like SHARP or SONY?

Coming from the Sensation, I do notice the pixelation a bit more on the Amaze, as well as the light bleed from the capacitive buttons when I wake the phone, no other times. My screen keeps its colors when I look from the side though.
I think the screen is just fine on the Amaze, except for the stupid decision to make it come out over the bezel. I don't think I'll be putting this phone on it's front, lol

the light bleed is only noticeable if you have the screen brightness low and you have to be indoors or low light area of the phone auto shuts off the touch key lights, but I dont think the light bleed is acceptable it belies the supposed high quality/price of our phone and makes me think my next phone will be a samsung

Screen bleed is unacceptable on a phone that's close to $600
I got a brand new in the box Amaze free as a warranty exchange for the myTouch 4G Slide. The unacceptable screen bleed is ridiculous. Display is far inferior from the myTouch 4G Slide's LCD. On top of that I CAN see every pixel as well regardless of how dim the lights are. Women have more cones in the eyes biologically than male and maybe this is why since I am female so we can see specs of dust whereas men sometimes overlook this. Not sure if original author was female or not the whole point is I sure as hell see every pixel and the light bleed and it's unacceptable. The phone also overheats, has reached 111F. I'm annoyed. I was a huge fan of the phone until I got my own and played with it at night. Yes cool camera and all but now I"m not so happy anymore. Seems like the next best phone will be the coming Nexus.

Use "Screen Filter" from the market to disable to the soft keys.
Hello All,
I was just wondering how many of you have noticed some little imperfection in your screen? Not like a burned out pixel, but actually a little blemish from the manfacturing process. I have one little tiny area where it looks like maybe something is under the screen, like a spec of dust?
Has anyone else experienced this? Should I expect the screen to be perfectly flawless? I mean I know it should be, but can you pick out a little blemish?
Thanks,
Sam
It seems like 90% of the phones i've had get a speck or two of dust under the screen at some point. Sometimes phones come from the factory with a speck already under it! My personal opinion is that if you go in search of a totally flawless screen, you're really going to inconvenience yourself for little to no benefit in the end. I started liking all my gadgets a whole heck of a lot more when I learned not to scrutinize them so closely. Mass production has it's benefits and it's drawbacks.

And this looks more like a tiny dimple, or imperfection, I would say it looks like (if they had them) a mold mark of the smallest caliber.
I was just trying to get an idea as to if expecting a perfect screen with zero flaws was realistic, and I assume now that it is not. I have a very picky eye, I will find a flaw if it is there, my wife is always like "Really?, I would have never seen that.".

Have you tried the market. They got everything HaHa
I agree that it's good not to be overly preoccupied w/screen compromises and deficiencies, given that all phone displays have them (the Rez' being somewhat subdued colors, unimpressive sunlight visibility, and crappy viewing angles), but I've never noticed a bad pixel or screen blemish in my Rezound, two previous Charges, two OG Droids, or a Blackberry.
yeah i hvae this tinnnnnnny spec of dust under my screen....my incredible didn't have anything though. that phone was built like a beast! haha
First 2 phones had dead pixels out the ass. Third phone had a spec of dust the size of 3 pixels that my OCD could not live with. Fourth has been perfect.

I really wouldn't call the colors "subdued" to me the colors feel more natural as opposed to washed out. But hell this is just based off of our personal opinions right here. All LCD's have issues with direct visibilty with sunlight, then again practically every phone does. As for the viewing angles, the only time that I could find that a hinderence, is when I'm showing others videos, it's a bit harder for me to view. But the other 99.99% of the time I use my phone I am viewing the at a direct angle so no issues here.

Your old inc was AMOLED correct? I believe any device using that technology has a zero tolerancy for dust under the screen. I haven't even bothered looking for dust under my screen, I was way too OCD about it in the past.
I dont know for sure about his...but some dinc had LCD screens.
Also....those who like Samsung TVs will say the resound is washed out. Just like they would say a Sony or Panasonic is washed out. They are not, they are natural but when you are used to over exaggerated fake colors they seem washed out.

Yeah I personally do not like AMOLED technology for that reason . The first batch of og incs had AMOLED displays, but when they couldn't keep up with the huge demand, they switched to LCD.
i loved the AMOLED screen of the inc, i thought the blacks were unbeatable and the colors were amazing............
that is until i got the rezound, realized how oversaturated AMOLED really is, and how much pentile displays give me a headache now because i continously focus on the pixels!!

Pentile is garbage hands down. It's funny to see all the Nexus fan boys try to defend the screen.
I do a lot if boating here in FL. The Samsung Omnia2 with it's Amoled screen was suppose to be easier to see in direct sunlight, thus perfect for me. I could not see it at all in direct sunlight. I can, however see my Droid X and Rezound screens in direct sun. Granted I can see them better in the shade, but at least they aren't useless as was my Omnia screen. I also felt the colors on the Omnia looked cartoonish.

Anyone noticed that S3 when used with a black wallpaper, its not totally black? Seems that the backlight is still on for blacks compared to S2 which is totally black.
S3 seems kinda grey with black...almost LCD like kinda black.

Will be interested to try this, that slightly greyish hue to blacks was one of the things I disliked about the Nexus screen.

It's called being critical. There are a number of things I dislike about my One X. No phone is perfect and if we're not critical and express our dislikes, chances are HTC/Samsung may not fix them with software updates/newer models.
I'm more interested in the potential black clipping issues like on the Galaxy Note. That was unacceptable.

just checking if anyone have the same experience.
Both my galaxy s and my s 2 never goes completely black if I watch them in complete darkness. Even when the phone is shutting down and doesn't display anything at all. And strangely enough they emit around the same brightness level. As the phones turn of completely, the hue disappears. Even black areas are being powered and I think it's by design. Or maybe slight component variations.

I have this issue on my infuse. Most of them are about 1mm in diameter but the largest one is about 1cm in diameter. I contacted Samsung and they are going to take a look at it.

Black Level? For what? GSMArena said that = 0. My S3 black display is fine but not perfect . Can not be perfect. Super Amoled = best black display.
Found other similar posts in Q&A. I have to cover the light sensor or be in pitch black to get the buttons to light up. Anyone else? One guy already swapped for a new phone but same problem.
Yep its pretty much hit and miss with this phone. I had to exchange my first one for a different issue, but the capacitive buttons on both don't light up unless in really low light. Personally I like this as I would turn button backlights off with CM based Roms on other phones. I know where the buttons are, don't need them to light up.

I was wondering the same thing. Mine only light up in very low light or dark. Unless there is a control for it, it is a bug

I'm not so sure it is a bug. It seems equally possible that they only turn on in extremely low light by design. HTC might assume (and rightfully) that you know where the buttons are after a while and don't need them illuminated unless it is dark enough to not see the phone very well or at all.
Personally, I'm glad they don't light up a lot. I know where they are, I can see them fine in low light and I don't like when capacitive buttons are always shinning at me when I don't need them.

I think it is a battery saving feature. Why would you need them on in the light anyway. They are not invisible like on the note 2.

I agree but I have still wondered about it. Sometimes mine won't light up at all in dark. But not bothering enough to take it back lol

I've got the same problem. The phone has a problem. I installed AndroSensor on the dna and my razr. The dna consistently gives me false readings. If there's any light at all it gives a 200 lux reading. If you are in total darkness it will reset. That's why your work around works. The phone has a light sensor that, either by design or defect, doesn't differentiate light levels between 2 to 200 lux. It defaults to the higher figure and the cpu apparently uses this figure to shut the lights down.
Personally, I find this to be a little too convoluted to be an energy saving design. I believe it's a bug that a future update will deal with.
Same here. Also.........they arent bright enough!! Lol we need a mod for this. Ill get right on it.

Mine light up all the time no matter how dark or light it is. They always seem to work on my end.

Anyone who consistently uses the phone in a dimly lit room will want it fixed. I watch movies with a single low-watt lamp on, and I like to use the phone periodically. Having the lights off means that every third button press doesn't land exactly on the capacitive part. If I force the lights on by covering the sensor, I never miss. There's very little play on the sensor area, so you either land perfectly or not at all. Definitely looking forward to a fix. I just hope it's not a hardware glitch that can't detect 2 to 200 lux.
Hey, I just got a Nexus 5 and I'm fairly happy with it, except for two small defects: contrast and viewing angles. If you turn your phone even a few degrees, the colours will begin to wash out and go to white. I've attached a photo of the nexus 5 at almost 180 degrees, and I know that it's unusual to actually use it at the angle - but it's hard to show what happens without showing the extreme.
In the picture, the Nexus 5 has a black menu shown - notice how it's almost white.
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the same issue with their LG G2. It will help me decide which phone I'd rather have.
From what I've seen the LG2 does not have that issue. Great viewing angles! This is the reason I canceled my Nexus 5 order and purchased an LG2

I also don't have any issues with my ATT LG2.
NRGZ28, are you going to make a rom for this phone? I used to run your winMo roms way way back in the day.
It's an LCD display so it's unfair to expect AMOLED-like viewing angles.
But with that said, this is one epic screen. And this is coming from a guy who had the Xperia Z (not comparable with the G2's display, not by a long shot) and made the switch to this phone from the Galaxy S4 (better viewing angles and way lower color reproduction fidelity).
All in all, I am pretty satisfied so far. ?
I was playing Dead Trigger last night, and I was playing with the viewing angle on my G2 and I love it, full color deep blacks no white outs; for a lcd screen this phone rocks :good:
I have some blue color distortion when just tilting the phone a little bit, is my phone bad? Should I get a new one?
Angles for me seem fine

Same issue, seen it on multiple G2's
This is just how the lcd works on these phones
LCD viewing angles are poor compared to AMOLED. So I'm sure that you won't find it any different from the Nexus 5. Although, I found the HTC One more pleasant view but such a small screen.
Sent from my G2
From some angles mine turns a yellow tint pretty bad and a slight blue tint from other angles.
The G2 has much better viewing angles than Nexus 5. I've compared them side-by-side as a friend of mine owns the Nexus 5. G2 is the clear winner in that regard. I have never seen an phone LCD screen with better viewing angles than G2. It's no Amoled in that regard but it's not that far off.
Just get the G2 you gain more than what you lose with N5. G2 has: Better battery time, better camera, larger screen, fm radio, and software updates 4.4 and maybe even 5 but maybe by that time you will be considering buying a new phone. G2 all the way, never look back.

This is true, but does it really matter? No one can use a phone from these angles anyway.

Nothing can be done about it then lol Only amoled will cure this problem. But sadly it has more problems than the ones it cures...

That is literally the only reason why I revile AMOLED at this point. Looking forward to taking a gander at my G2 screen when it comes in today. If I can resurrect my DNA, I can give a viewing comparison between the two as well.
If you want to feel better about viewing angles of the G2 or N5, go look at any newer Sony Xperia phones, then you will never worry about the viewing angles of any new phone ever again.
