Hey all,
I have been searching for the proper subforum to post this so I hope it's the right one.
My problem is that I have an S2 which I recently updated to 2.3.6 but since then, I started to have random reboots.
It SEEMS related to wifi because I don't have them when wifi is turned off, but I cannot determine this 100%.
Over on the GoT forum, dutch users are reporting the same issue.
Phone specs:
Productcode: GT-I9100LKAXEN
PDA: KK2 / PHONE: KI4 / CSC: KJ1
Non-rooted.
Whether I have a stock ROM or not I do not know, I'm quite sure it's not branded but Samsung doesn't seem to know either.
KIES says that I have a XEN firmware, I'm wondering if this ROM is for the Netherlands, or Europe, or worldwide(if that exists) but this is not my main concern.
Now, I've been battling with Samsung NL over this issue via Twitter, but the messages are mixed. A few days ago they announced an update, then OTA, then they went silent. Now they are saying they don't know when they will bring out an update.
All I know is that it is very frustrating to have a phone which keeps rebooting AND to have Samsung not give me clear answers.
Does anyone have a clue? Where do I begin troubleshooting this?
Before, this issue was nonexistent.

KK2 XEN netherlands firmware ,11/11/11 Netherlands CSC .

If its branded then its branded with network stuff fairly easy to spot .
Unless you flashed custom then its stock .
Presume update was via KIES or OTA ???
If you updated then first choice is backup data and factory reset .
Second is to redownload firmware .
Third is to go the self install route .

Update was via KIES, OTA updates have never been available for Dutch T-Mobile customers. AFAIK.
Image of my phone version itself http://i.imgur.com/vyjbZ.png
I'm sure the ROM is buggy, but I'll try a factory reset next week.
Is this problem only with this ROM? Nobody with a stock 2.3.6 ROM experiencing this?

My phone random reboots every now & then, it appears to be due to the SD card, Im in the process of reinstalling all SD programs to phone memory instead, it appears some SD cards dont play nice.
How do I remove old shortcuts of programs no longer on phone?
If u fix this some other way, let me no
Hi Iceman, I have the same issue, can't really say if its the wifi, sure I know its after the PDA:KK2/PHONE:KI4/CSC:KJ1(XEN) update with KIES.
Actually, the kies program s***s, I always have problems when updating firmware.
Think on flashing back to original with Odin, or do you have a great solution for this annoying matter...
Same here,
official upgrade via Kies (Dutch customer), and having daily reboots since.
It started after the 2.3.6 upgrade.
No idea why, something wrong in the ROM I guess, I did not install new programs. Clearing the cache did not help, also factory reset did not help.
Yeah ive started having reboots since getting 2.3.6
Kies at the time didnt have the update but the phone said there was one so i let it update using my wifi. Going to leave wifi off on my mobile and see how it goes. Will let ya know if its still going goood.
If anyone figures it out please post back, thanks
havent had one reboot since disabling wifi.
I purchased my phone from a Virgin Mobile booth and went home and rooted and unlocked it right away so I could use it for Telus. The phone uses the KG2 rom, and it is currently on 2.3.3.
A few months ago the GPS stopped locking onto satellites. The longest I have had it lock on was 5 minutes and I have tried many times in various cities. I have tried putting into airplane mode then back and restarting my phone but this does not fix anything.
My plan was to somehow update the phone to 2.3.4 or some newer version which could fix this, but I cannot figure out how to upgrade it. I heard there is even a 2.3.6 out, yet there is no way that I know to update the phone. Also, since I am currently using KG2, does this mean that I can only update to KG2 versions or can I change them? When I change roms does it mean I have to start from scratch with my current data and contacts?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just finished changing to a different ROM and the GPS still is unable to lock onto anything. I believe my warranty is up already or soon. Is there a way to find out why the GPS is not working?
Have a look at this thread. Don't ask me the how/why of it (never tried it myself, just know about the thread/other people have successfully used the patch), read the thread & you'll know how to apply the patch/if it might work for you.
Thanks a lot for your help! This information has helped me finally lock a location for the first time in months.
Hi all,
Thanks for having me here I've been reading a long time but i finally had to register an account to post because i have ran into some problems. Here's what happened:
Chronological actions:
* I was running STOCK GB 2.3.6 (KPN_I9100XWKK2_I9100KPNKJ1_I9100XXKI4)
* I rooted it with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5 (Still running above mentioned software versions.)
a few months passed by.
* Backup current 2.3.6 state with CWM.
* I flashed ICS 4.03 (XEN_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3)
* I rooted it with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5
Problem:
All seemed fine at first glance. But when the phone went to sleep (screen off) it wont turn back on. Only when i press and hold the power button for over 10 seconds a few times it starts back up.
I removed cache and dalvik caches and rebooted. Still the same problem.
The battery was draining fast too, about 10% in 20 minutes, and the phone got pretty hot.
More actions:
* Backup current messed up 4.03 state with CWM.
* Restore CWM 2.3.6 KPN.
My phone seems fine and working properly. But when i open KIES my firmware is suddenly no longer supported and not updateable. Here's the weird part according to kies my firmware version is now: 'I9100XWKK2/I9100KPNKJ1/I9100XXLPS/I9100XWKK2 (KPN)'
My phone's output for *#1234#:
PDA: I9100XWKK2
Phone: I9100XXLPS
CSC: I9100KPNJ1
I did backup the kernel, system, and data partitions and had everything else selected with CWM. Now it must become blatantly obvious that i'm a noob.. Was i wrong in assuming that CWM does a complete backup, like a norton ghost image of the whole system? Why is the 'Phone' section still XXLPS and not back to XXKI4 ? Doesn't CWM backup/restore the baseband also ?
Does anyone know what i might have done wrong?
I fixed this by reflashing the old stock kernel and rerooting with cf-root and i'm back on:
PDA: I9100XWKK2
Phone: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100KPNJ1
Now i'm again updatable in kies.
I'm just trying to understand what i did wrong with doing backup and restore via CWM ?
I also would like to know if there's a solution for the ICS problem i had with the phone going dead when the screen goes off.
BTW I did NOT do a factory reset before upgrading to ICS. All my apps where there after i had upgraded.
Thanks for listening,
~Trail.
you want to fix it completly, theres one way
im assuming you know ur way with cwm.
1: using cwm format system, cache, data, dalvik
2: flash your stock ICS using odin
3: after first boot skip everything and wait few minutes.
4: dial this code *2767*3855#
now after boot you should have a working phone.
the code will wipe your phone and please do not restore any thing you saved on GB.
start from scratch.
Thanks atfish,
Your method sure sounds like a fool-proof way to get ICS going. It also sounds like the last resort method to me. I heard many that have upgraded to ICS without doing a factory reset. I'd hate to reinstall everything i'm using.
I'm hoping for a less rigorous method
I still would like to know why CWM didn't backup/restore the phone completely, or what i did wrong.
~Regards,
~Trail.
ill be surprised if someone who has went from GB to ICS without wipe is running trouble free.
Gb to ICS is major change of OS so its better to start from scratch and stay tension free

I do have games on there, but also half a gazillion tools
I'm trying to deduct where it went wrong so i just backed up current state and restored the same backup from a day ago and i'm still updatable. That backup was fine.
Just wanted to make sure the backup didn't contain I9100XXLPS by some error, but it really is I9100XXKI4 like i thought it was. Or CWM doesn't do anything with the baseband.
Does this mean CWM doesn't backup/restore the baseband?
~Trail.
Wow i did what you suggested starting with a fresh system and i haven't noticed any problems yet.
I first made backups of my sd card just in case. And used titanium to backup my programs.
Low and behold after booting the playstore started restoring my apps automaticly.. so thats what you ment.. LMAO.. even my contacts are back.. lil; did i know... big brother google does have some usefull features afterall
EDIT: After restoring apps i have the same problem as before. When the screen goes off it never comes back on again..
Isolated the problem to SETCPU. Once deinstalled the phone works just fine.

Hi,
I've updated the phone to the newer firmware from KIES, and the phone was connected to the WIFI network but signal connection keeps switching on and off, is there anyway to fix this issue so I can have a stable connection?
Have test with my iPhone and Ipad, both connectect to the same WIFI and only my samsung S3 having this problem.
PS: WIFI power saver mode is already <<off >>, keep Wifi on during Sleep mode is set to <<always>>, Network notification is <<un-tick>>
This is my current ROM (Rooted)
AP: I9300BUBLG3
CP: I9300BULG2
CSC: I9300VFGBLG3
settting > wireless & network > more > mobile network > automatic connections > sprint connection optimizer.. unchecked?
This is the international version is Samsung S3, I can't find such settings.

I had the same issue when I reverted to stock. I thought it was this and that but really, all I did was
Backed up everything
Well mine was rooted and stuff so I triangled away the flash counter, probally dont need that if your on stock anyways
I wiped everything from the phones settings, back and restore, reset
I then booted up in recovery, doesnt matter if you are cwm or stock recovery, wipe again plus cache
Now I loaded up Odin and flash the original stock rom for my phone, I waited till it was complete, I then updated it through settings till I got to the latest update and then started reinstalling my apps from google play store or whenever else I had apps. So far all is well and no wifi issues.
Other advise would be instead of all the above, wait for another update or flash a new modem. That also worked for me when I was running another countries stock rom, Bad wifi, so I flashed my countries modem and it was fine! so good luck!
go to dialler
*#0011# will take you into Service Mode
click on menu
click on wifi
you will see a button that says "on" click on it
it will say off this stops the wifif connect/dis-connect problem.
If you shut down your phone you have to reset it to off.

Sorry I don't have BT Home HUB 3, my connection is very simple, just connecting the S3 to a DrayTek Vigor2710Vn Router via Wifi. Please let me know the result after you flash with a new modem. If is working, please provide the link and file name where you got your file so I can flash it too.
Thanks!!!!
***By the way, what ROM version are you using at the moment? Please provide your AP, CP and CSC details if is different to my S3. ***
Repeat Modem has nothing to do with WiFi.

I had the exact same issue, but ONLY after rooting the device (which I did just a day or two after I got it). I tried every possible fix, flashed new roms 3 or 4 times, wiped data and everything else in recovery, but no luck.
However, my final solution was to simply follow a guide to unroot the device, which I did today - and it did indeed work, I guess this issue is mainly happening to rooted phones, for unknown reason. Until I know this is fixed with an update (maybe in 4.1 JB), I won't be rooting this device again.
Link to guide on how to unroot
Are there actually people who can't fix it like me?
Also done everything I possible could but never got wifi working again.
Returned it to Samsung. I unrooted it and flashed the firmware again with KIES.
The day after there was also an official update for the BENELUX I guess. Also updated this with KIES.
So is it still possible they see that the modem was changed?

Yeah as the guy above me said, you always have to reset the flash counter before unrooting (as this requires superuser access).
If you don't do this, it's easy to see the phone has been modified in either download mode or by checking status in settings.
After successfully unrooting you'll also have to re-enter CWM recovery and wipe data+cache.
After doing this you'll see the device being "normal" and it should show "stock" in download mode.

Forgot to mention it but I did this yes.
I also think KIES would not update when this is not a zero.
After I rooted my phone, I found out that the camera, video player and YouTube would not work. The video would not play, but the audio would be heard. Finding on a thread that its the ROM, I unrooted my phone.
This is where the problem starts. Heaps of background apps would keep coming up saying its not responding. These background apps are android.process.acore (which I stopped by clearing user data on the contacts and contacts manager apps); LogsProvider (which I may have solved by clearing the app out of its user data); Messaging (haven't solved yet) and most importantly, Software Update.
This may have been caused because I followed a guide on the galaxy s2 root website (sorry I can't link outside links yet), which unrooted my phone, but put me back to 4.0.3, when my phone was 4.0.4
Now I can't update my phone at all, with either Kies or the system app. May someone please help me? I really want to stay away from a factory reset, and sorry for the long details.
EDIT: Software Update just checked for updates randomly out of nowhere, but now it doesn't find an update for 4.0.4. It's really strange. And Messaging is crashing constantly.
Do a factory reset
BTW did u flash 4.0.4? If yes then flash another kernel via Odin

I am kinda a newbie to rooting, but I think I did flash it, but I kept finding unofficial leaked kernels of 4.0.4 on the net, which all looked suspicious.
And also if your advice is to factory reset, can you please give a quick guide on how to backup everything easily on a non-rooted phone, and also how to factory reset?
EDIT: I factory-reset my phone, with everything now back normal except for one thing. Before, I was able to update to 4.0.4 directly after updating to 4.0.3, but after this problem was solved, it bought me back to 4.0.3, and now won't find 4.0.4.
It's really annoying, as I liked 4.0.4's new features, especially the Wi-Fi connection bug fix and the battery level option. But now that it can't detect it, it's made it very sucky. I can't connect to Kies because the program won't recognise my S2 (even though it has Kies 2.0 compatibility)
