Google now help with notifications - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I hope this is on the right place
I've been a fan of Android ever since the HTC Dream came out. I have liked all things Google since then, and particularly find Google Now and its alerts very useful.
I was wondering though if there is some way to set individual sound notifications to particular alerts? For example, I love how it tells me I need to go immediately or I will be late, but I want to set that alert to be a different sound to everything else so it really does remind me to hurry up and I don't end up missing it
I have done a few Google searches but have not found anything that helps me, so I'm now putting it to the xda community in the hope that there is someone here who can help
Thanks!

So I'm guessing no one knows or it can't be done....

Where would I find the vibrate function?

I am looking at either attempting the making of a root app or just flat out extending the vibrate when a call or txt comes in. Question is where would that file be? And yes I am going to dive right in! I have yet to grasp the file layout and have relied on other apps to do stuff for me. I figure the worst I can do is brick my tb....j/k. I will never say you can fully brick an android phone. I just wanna go further now because of the lack of customization to the vibration setting. Thanks!

I guess there is no set place for the vibration length in a file? I really don't want a different rom. Just want to get a place to start. Yes I know absolutely nothing about the android file structure, but hey if I brick it then I but a new one til I figure it out. I just can't seem to find one answer to this. Anyone? And yes I did use the search. XDA premium app just sends back everything but what I ask.

Soft key lights as notification?

Just finally upgraded my eris for the rezound and am missing the trackball LED notification for emails, missed calls and text messages. Is there any chance that the devs can use the red soft keys for a notification option?
Thanks for your hard work.

Danm, how many moderators are there for this forum? Whoops, that was also a question...I will repost in general even though this is dev related.

It may be "dev related" but the dev section is only for things you yourself have actually developed

Yeah, great, you can bash the guy for his mistake. Now if you're not going to contribute to the topic then stop posting. He only needs one post telling him.
@OP I've seen it done on samsung devices (BLN) and I'm assuming it can be done on our device too. We just need a kernel to support it.
I have been thinking the same thing. I had a Droid X and then upgraded to a Nexus, which I switched out for a Rezound after suffering from the horrible radio and speaker issues. Both of these had large, bright notification LEDs, and I'm really missing it. The tiny light on this phone may as well not even be there. I had the same thought as the OP. If one of the talented devs out there were to make this an option, I would be eternally grateful and it would make this an even better device!

Sooooo far this is not possible

LightFlow can control softkeys on some devices. I'm still on Droid2 myself but was actually wondering about the LED light. Is it just small? How is color support?
LightFlow has a free version also, don't remember if softkey control was a paid feature or not, but if someone could try it out and report back... Thanks in advance!

The led is small and insignificant and only supports like 2-3 colors. ill try and see if this works
Update: I can't even find the option in lightflow.

In the paid version anyway:
General ssettings, LED hardware control-Experimental, Button backlight control
Once I enabled it there, it then became available in individual notifications.
LightFlow does automatically fade out options not available on a device, but should still show up.
Anything there on Rezound?

I have the paid version of Lightflow, but the button backlight LED option is grayed out. It does have a caveat saying that if I ran as root, I would have the option to set it as solid. I haven't rooted it as of yet. So, if someone that has Lightflow and root would be willing to check it out, that would be great.
Also, it says that it found a "charming-LED" that can be controlled. I set it to use it, but nothing worked when I tested the notification. It also has the caveat about being run as root, but it isn't grayed out. Does anyone know what the charming-LED is?

Nothing seemed to work, I bought it and tried it and then just refunded, neither the soft key light control nor the "charming-LED" seemed to do anything.
id personally love to see this and be happy to test if work begins on it
+1
would love multiple colors for the led besides your typical amber and green. the soft keys will eventually come as well as configuring auto brightness levels

I just wish HTC hadn't put such a crappy light in to begin with. I don't understand why some manufacturers continually overlook how helpful LED notifications are. They are one of the best things about an Android device in my opinion.
I'd also be happy to test if anyone wants to try to get the soft key lights working.
The charm led is that lame thing that the Rhyme has for girl's purses. It is supported by the Rezound so that is why it shows up as available hardware even though the rezound didn't come with it.

ICS updated but want Ginerbread back i think

I waited and waited. Thought about rooting and using a ROM before the official ICS update came from AT&T but just decided to wait. Finally got the update via Kies, excited like a school girl. Initially it was a cool new bit of scenery, and as the OS settled in with me, i found myself disappointed and wanting my gingy back. I've been upgrade for a couple months now i think, and had plenty of time to try to get used to it.
I am finding lots of things that just plain suck.
1 - Text message notification audible alert discontinues after awhile (unknown amount of time), only resolution I've found is to reboot the phone. This sucks because just out of nowhere my text notification tone stops. Everything else like ringtone etc is fine. This is a dealbreaker for me almost. This worked fine on Ginerbread.
2 - new Swype software gives me problems when the word suggestion feature stops working completely. Swype is hard to do without word suggestions at times. Only solution i've found is again, reboot the phone. This sucks. I know, don't use swype, but i WANT to use it. It worked perfectly on Gingerbread.
3 - the widget for Google Voice is super tiny now, and i don't see a way of making it bigger. It's approximately the size of 4 icons, whereas before on Gingerbread it was huge and you could easily read/see your voicemails. Maybe i'm missing something on how to change the widget size, but i see no way of doing it.
4 - my News and Weather widget, which i used for weather and news all the time, since my original Galaxy S, does not display any weather information anymore. Just says "No Weather Information". this worked fine on Gingerbread. I guess different phone OS makes widgets work differently. I just want mine to work as expected. News still comes through fine though.
5 - Unlocking the screen seems more difficult now, usually takes me a couple tries, whereas it seemed really smooth and awesome before the update
6 - Power Saving widget is huge now, takes up half of one screen, whereas before it was just 1 row and you could scroll across. Why make it bigger and take up more room with no additional functionality?
After listing all this out, i'm trying to think of the things i LIKE about ICS update, and i can only think of one, which is the data monitoring/limiting which is kind of a cool feature. I doesn't seem any faster really than before. So overall, i honestly was happier with Gingerbread. 6 things that i find that suck versus one thing i like.
Maybe this is me being picky, but as excited as I was to get ICS, i'm equally disappointed in the upgrade. My wife uses a Galaxy Note and it is available for her phone now, and I told her don't bother with the upgrade.
Anyone have any advice??? experience the same problems? I know i could root, install a custom rom etc, but i really like the touchwiz stuff from samsung and i was really happy with just the stock gingerbread OS, even with all the bloatware, i just disregard all that junk.
I'm having the same problem with text notification I just notice that I get a text it would sound but just about an hour ago it just stopped I would get a text and nothing ringtones works and everyrhing but I think is a ics bug maybe it would get fixed in the new update 4.0.4

at&t sucks. bottom line.
Advice, if you want to stick with touchjizz, run a custom one, there are plenty that *should* have those issues taken care of.
But the widget size issue, thats just looks, with a different launcher can change size of widgets.
Lol I called this one. A bunch of people upgrade to stock ICS. Then they complain and want to switch back, mess it up, and start new threads. Hopefully they all learned their lesson about carrier upgrades . I mean even I tried it, just to see what it looked like and how it functioned. Then again I knew how to get back to a custom Rom Before I did it. It's actually not too bad, but there were just too many bugs and battery life was too bad for my taste.

It isn't 100% on all phones it seems to be random but instead of posting something VERY VERY risky for people not so inclined to troll the forums and find out about the risks of certain actions why not shut up or post what you think will work then link them to a topic showing what bad could happen. You just seem like you want people to brick and make more topics about how they tried to reset and bricked. You also need to think of Google searches that link to this topic and they read it and see you said reset and they do it. It isn't just xda its anyone with the internet don't lead people to a possible brick

The only way to go "back" to Gingerbread is to flash UCKH7 straight stock or one of the Gingerbread stock plus root packages in Entropy512's thread. So yes, use that, or one of my guides.

[Q] enable s-pen sounds even when phone is on vibrate?

Hi, I just rooted and unlocked my note 2 yesterday using Jedi's XV11 rom. I also modded the sounds when the s-pen is attached/detached. I love it but I need to know is there anyway possible to have the sounds still active even while the rest of the phone is on vibrate. Like, can I go into root explorer and tweak something so this sound is permanently on? I work during most of my day and cannot have my ringer on but would love to be able to still have the s-pen sound functionality on vibrate. any help is greatly appreciate and I hope I posted this in the correct forum.
anybody????
You have to give it longer then an hour. As to your question I don't think it can be done

I appreciate the response. I dont normally post on forums so I wasn't sure of a typical response time

Not sure what to title this

OK so I know this is gonna sound nit picky so I apologize if I come off like that. But has anyone else noticed that light flicker thing that happens when selecting something in options on touchwiz? A couple ROMs don't have it, 2 I know of. I know its the way it supposed to look stock, but I really dislike the way it looks. I thought my screen was messed up when I first got my N2. Can anyone tell me if its possible to remove? And maybe give me an idea where to begin to take it away? Thanks to anyone in advance.
