[Q] No subs in .mkv, but I can see subs in .avi

Why is that? Is it because the file is softsubed instead of hardsubed? Can the default player in Galaxy S II play .srt files? Thanks.
not sure if the stock player can play .srt since i have any mkvs like that
but if stock don't want to, try either Mobo player or MX player ( the last update on the later is really nice with our SGS2).

Stock player plays .srt but you have to have it extract under the same name as the video file. Beside stock you could try Mx player, it's pretty amazing compared to stock.
just try another player..
like rock player..
Thanks guys! )
mvideoplayer is a great player and plays .srt files. I used to have this player and the only think made me change was that i bought the mhl cable to export the video through hdmi to my tv set and it couldn't display tha subs into the tv. Finally the solution to both was bsplayer. I hope i could answer your question and solve your problem.

Not sure if it'll work, but MoBo Player + codecs have been working good for me
as stated above moboplayer is great. make sure its moboplayer, no spaces. the other ones a knockoff. i used to love mobo until i came across mx player
Mxvideo player is also a good bet. Whilst I am not sure if mobo has more codec support than mx or has ones that are missing from mx, I do know mx has ones mobo is missing,
Mx video player
I'm using MX Video Player 1.5
thanks for answers, now i am using mx player

Give Mobo Player a shot.. you wont regret it
MoboPlayer is great ,and is one of the most downloaded apps ,so give it a shot
I have been using Mobo player and i like it
MoboPlayer is the best video player
+Mobo player, can play almost all video formats, though I have already got a giveaway edition of aneesoft video converter for my video conversions.
Mx player
MX player has 3 modes of rendering, HW, SW and SW fast..
I'm not sure about MOBO though..will give it a shot and post!!
Mobo player is the best
mx video player is great but make sure while you play 720P video, codecs for your device are installed
And proper codec should be installed according to your deevice like ARMv7 if you have Xperia Mini Pro

MX video player is the best for me. I've also tried Rock player, but I like MX more. The only negative point is that MX has ads in the free version, but it's not really disturbing)
mx video works great for me...
I'll try mobo video player. I had a problem with Mx video player, i have class 10 8gb SDcard but when I watching m720p movie I think it's not fluent.
I'm using something called QQ player, I think, but I'll check out Mobo.
Mobo player for sure

how can I see .mkv

How can i play .mkv on SXs??
i downloade rockplayer but the video stopped after some times of viewing it..can u tell me another one?
You can try MX Player.
Or search the play store, I'm sure you'll find something there.

MX Player can play all formats may be the file you viewed was error (not properly copied) try another file
Yea MX Player is so legit.
You Can use V Player...which will let you run all types of video format's...I use it....and i am satisfied by its performance
Go for QQ player or Vital player...both free apps in google play store!!
BS Player Lite is also good, allows playback of mkv files in hardware mode (which means Bravia Engine would work)
Standard Movie Player Works
Tried some .mkv files on my Sony Sola and they played using the standard movie player. Still on stock GB .564 system. MoboPlayer also plays these files in the hardware decoding mode.

yes, To play a movie both MX and VPlayer are good. But if you see the features in both players i am sure you will love to see a HD movie on vPlayer. It is very easy and more powerful. You can touch the screen on left or right to increase/decrease volume or brightness. also take a screenshot of the movie is very easy.. like that more and more. Its almost like VLC player on computer !!!

I use MediaHouse to browse my network for DLNA sources: NAS & WMC 7. It is much better than Sony stock DLNA player--which is a featureless afterthought/sick joke. MediaHouse then calls up MX Player, and it's codecs handle the same video sources that Sony DLNA refuses to play....

This is about right. Third-party DLNA viewers such as MediaHouse support on-the-fly transcoding and best-attempt playback.
The Sony DLNA doesn't do this is for the same reason that the Sony Video Player won't play locally stored WMV's for example, because they cannot be played back by hardware rendering. The Sony DLNA app only supports the same video files as the stock Sony Video Players, those with hardware support.
Third-party apps bypass this restriction and try their best to play it, even if its not supported, so give that a shot.

The problem was that we needed a media app capable of playing photos and music, which MX cannot do..

You can try a video player app like dice player or convert your videos xvid, avi to your tablet s friendly format with Brorsoft Video Converter.
To avoid the incompatible issues, you can convert your kinds of videos to a widely supported format like MPEG-4 first before storing on your NAS for streaming. I've successfully convert a bunch of VOB to NAS before streaming and sharing.

This is a totally pointless post on a thread thats nearly to years old my friend
yes you are trying to help a fellow xda peep
But you should read the whole thread its only two pages long but as you would have seen the player your suggesting as been already offered and rebuked By the op as for the conversion option its a lot of work and time to convert what I can only assume is about a 1 Tb if not more on a nas hence the need to have a nas
Please read all of the tread you are commenting on first
His best option would be ez file explorer to veiw the folders on the nas then selecting the appropriate app with the file being veiwed
As for video players vlc or mx player support a good number of formats
hit thanks if I helped
sent from rooted xts thanks djrbliss and condi
Try with Avia Media Player
