Hi,
After much work getting my Photon onto PagePlus, I finally had everything set up and working about right.
Then I decided to port my old number over, from then on I had a blue triangle over the signal strength bars, but talk and text worked so I was basically happy.
Then last night I was poking around in Battery Monitor Widget and under their Tests button I decided to change a setting from "CDMA/GSM" to "CDMA only." Immediately or very soon thereafter, the Photon rebooted. It booted past the Motorola and Sprint logos until I saw the notification bar and "Starting Services" A couple icons show up on the notification bar, then it reboots. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I have found that by going into the boot/recovery menu I can choose "Boot Android (No BP)" and get back to Android. However, the cellular radio is disabled, it has a red circle/crossbar on the signal strength. I don't know if that's because of the "No BP" or because of whatever is causing the phone to reboot.
I'm currently working on backing up my files to the external SD.
So at this point, HELP! I know I can wipe the phone, but I am willing to work to fix whatever is wrong rather than just give up and wipe it. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.
Try this

Is that procedure destructive; will I lose my layout and settings? Also I have 2.3.4, that procedure specifies 2.3.5.
Try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then choose Phone info
Then pick CDMA auto PRL
Ah, that's the screen I got to through the app, that's where the problem seems to have begun.
It's set on "Unknown" and just reverts back to "Unknown" with any of the options I pick.
My cell radio isn't working; I have a red circle-bar on my signal strength, and the only way I can boot is "Boot Android (No BP)". Not sure if either of those are a factor in the setting not sticking.
Try to flash a photon 2.3.4 sbf or do a factory reset
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Factory reset will delete the data on my phone and if you read my first post I don't want to do that. I just need to fix the cell radio / reboot loop problem.
The sbf thing looks interesting, I will try that. It's supposed to keep apps, contacts, and settings. This page looks like a good tutorial: http://www.motosunfire.com/sbf-restore-photon/
EDIT: It worked, and everything seems to be just like I left it. Thanks for the advice!
Now I just have to get flashed to Page Plus again.
I'm guessing you have 2.3.4 am I right

Yep, used the instructions on the page I mentioned to install a 2.3.4 SDB file. Got it reflashed to PagePlus and re-rooted (found a really easy root script on the motosunfire site, it's just a .bat file) and I'm a happy cat.

Soo heres my setup:
Rom: Das BAMF 2.0-5
Radio: MR2
So I was using my phone just fine and then decided to restart it after doing abunch of updates to apps etc.
Then all of a sudden once it boots back up there is no lockscreen what so ever, so I cannot unlock my phone in order to use it, I didn't have the pattern/pin/password lockscreen just the basic slide to unlock one.
I can see the notification bar at the top of the screen but I am unable to pull it down due to the phone basically being locked... I also cannot turn off/restart the phone because I cannot get it unlocked..
I tried a battery pull or two and everytime I boot it up the same thing happens..
can you get into recovery? if so it may be a good idea to go to a backup. I have never heard of that issue before:S
you need a car dock to unlock it and change the lockscreen, what happened is the default wallpaper lockscreen vanished, or reinstall the rom over the top again,i have asked many times can never get an answer as to why or how to fix it any other way.

I have the bamf rom on my SD card, but I also have the stupid radio update on there so I cannot get to the recovery until I get home otherwise I could fix it..
But thank you for your help, hopefully that will fix it. How does the car dock work? I had a moto droid previously and that car dock had a magnet in it that would some how put the phone into car dock mode. What does the thunderbolt's do?
basically the same thing, you out it in the dock and it starts the car dock app, when you remove it the phone is unlocked, then go to tje settings customize and change the lock screen, you will see only five and should be six

thanx for reminding me just deleted the radio file from the sd

Well I don't have a car dock, so I ended up flashing the bamf rom back over it and that did not help.. Just ended up doing a factory reset and re-flashing the rom again..
thank you for your help guys

would still like one if the devs to take a look and see whats causing it,has happened to me on all the gb bamfs i have installed. really like the wallpaper lockscreen but its gone, hoped it would come back with the bamf prev 3 but no go

I just had the lock screen issue. That sucked. I freaked for a bit, but I was able to save it in recovery. Now to get my phone back to the way I like it... x_x
Best thing is to change the lockscreen,it has happened to me on every th band so far most of the time right after a back up

how do you get menu to unlock
You can try reflashing in recovery,I used my car dock to unlock the phone then change to the weather lock screen

Having this issue too...hopefully someone can figure out what is causing it.
To get around it, I installed a new lockscreen from the android market website, did cache & dalvic wipe, then reboot. Not sure which of those actually fixed the issue, but I'll probably be re-flashing today anyway.
I have experienced the same bug on Liquid roms. I had to wipe/factory reset and reinstall everything.
Someone in the Liquid thread told me it was due to the underclock while idle being too low. Thoughts?
I tried the car dock to unlock and the phone did not unlock. The notification bar showed it was in car mode, but it did not unlock the phone. Any ideas besides reflashing?
So I ran across this article today about improving voice quality http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d...r-vocoder-settings-improve-voice-quality.html
After trying this method when I rebooted phone, low and behold my missing phone icon was back on the lockscreen! What the heck? Figured I'd better let everyone know my findings!
Any idea why the phone icon disappeared? I got the same prob and I searched for like half an hour thru the phone

If you did the update you will lose your phone icon. You need to go into HTC updates as there is another update available in there if you hav not done that one. It will give you your phone icon back after you update and soft reset your device.
I had to keep checking for the update before it actually showed available.
ota
I did the OTA update and still had phone icon
I did a hard reset and while the phone icon returns, as soon as you cange the lock screen icons, it's gone again. You will have to download the update mentioned previously.

Make sure to go into settings, software updates and check the HTC one. If it doesn't come up, keep checking throughout the day. That is what I had to do after I hard reset when device after taking the 1st update.
You will need the additional software update to get your phone icon back as that update does not stick on a hard reset. It will show up without it, but once you change it will not be available again like mentioned.

I have tried several times on several occasions, and all I get is the android Guy with the triangle with exclamation mark in it. Is there a problem with the phone, if so, how can I fix it?
I am rooted, running the stock setup. I updated the firmware to the latest that I've seen, I'll post it here shortly.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance

Use ROM manager our quick boot, those will boot you straight into recovery
Sent from one focused MoPho
Quick Boot is what I use, religiously. It's a pretty legit program and haven't run into any issues using it on the Photon.
Tried quick boot, and still can't access recovery from boot. I can access it through the settings menu on the phone, but not from boot
sent from my MoPho
That's strange...what are yiu trying ti do via recovery again? And you are rooted and kocked correct?
Sent from my Photon via XDA
I am rooted, but am running the stock rom. I never went any further than rooting, as I like the 4g. Originally, it started as needing to perform a recovery to try to fix some issues. I ended up going through the settings menu, but would like to be able to access through the boot process. I am wondering if something is messed up.
sent from my MoPho
You COULD try bootstrap recovery. That may work in place of the stock one. (Not sure though haven't really played with it) but it seems strange you can't access itvia boot....
Sent from my Photon via XDA
It was strange to me as well, and I don't know if something is corrupt or not. I've been getting the mobile response IP error as well, so I am wondering if something is wrong somewhere in the phone

Mobile Response or Mobile Registration error?
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Registration, my mistake, I don't read the error anymore
sent from my MoPho
Yeah, I get the same error sometimes. It generally doesn't do anything but annoy me. It goes away by itself I don't have to change or do anything. If you want Boot Strap I have it on my computer and can upload it to this thread, and I have put it in another as well. So if you wanna try that, let me know.
Let me think about it, I may take it up to sprint, I've been having connectivity issues as well.
sent from my MoPho
Well....that is probably a good idea. As I've never run into an issue with not being able to boot into recovery. Even when I flashed back to stock, I was still able to access recovery. So tell them what's up and they may just exchange it. So you should be good to go afterwards, but if you still want bootstrap, just let me know. Or you can check in the Dev section. It's in there as well.
Cool, I appreciate the help

No problem Man. Let me know if Sprint takes care of you, and if that fixes your issue, if not, I'll see what else I can do.
Will do

Try turning off the phone.
Holding the power button and the volume down key until you see "fastboot".
Press the volume down key slowly until you see "Android Recovery".
Press the volume up key.
It will say loading.
The phone wait 3 seconds, and press both volume keys.
If this does not work, try an SBF.

When the little droid dude and triangle pop up press the volume up/down keys at the same time and the recovery menu options will pop up...without a full on custom recovery theres only a few options to choose from though...hope this helps..
EDIT: if you need to do any backup/flashing you will need to use bootstrap recovery if you haven't unlocked your bootloader and flashed an actual custom recovery...you install it like any other APK...through it you have those options...i don't have a direct link to the apk but search for it on here and you'll find it...thats how i found it...

So, while tweaking settings using *#*#4636#*#*, I've apparently disabled the MoPho's recognition of the Sprint network entirely, and now the phone continues to reset itself to GSM/UMTS only in Network settings, even after reboot, and even after i change the settings manually to "any CDMA" or "Sprint" after the fact.
4G however, works.
(shrugs)
This is a first for me, and a headscratcher. Definitely don't want to go the hard reset route. Any suggestions of what I should be looking for?
**Update** - Have somehow managed to get it to stop forcing itself to GSM/UMTS, but will now only set itself on Automatic, and will not allow me to set "Any CDMA" or "Sprint only". Clicking these options won't stick, and just reverts to Automatic.
Preferred network type in Phone Info is "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). I've turned the radio off/on several times, and it still shows as searching for service.
Sigh..
**Update #2** - Factory data reset didn't do the trick; phone still can't locate network. I'm sure this has got to be an easy fix. Anybody?
**Update #3** - Sprint couldn't figure it out either, chalked it up to a bug, and swapped out the phone for a 3D since they didn't have any MoPho's in stock. Would still be curious to know if anyone else ever encountered this issue..

Just out of curiosity, coyld you try putting in a sim chip and see if your phone recognizes it? Also, what is your baseband?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
That is indeed a bug of the stock firmware. Only way to fix it is to sbf back to stock. Hopefully you are not on the latest OTA (235) as I believe you can not sbf that version (downgrade).
Did the same thing myself by tooling around in the debug menus.

this problem appeared when using *#*#4636#*#*,and select gsm mode with radio usa band
now device keep settings forcing GSM/UMTS,i can not change the settings manually to CDMA (have other phone no.in CDMA network

Encountered the same issue when I selected USA band. Did several things and nothing good happened. Finally flashed 235_radio_only.sbf from peetr_ and it worked. GSM 3G is working and 4G seems ok but unable to test it as I am not in US.

If your OS ver is 2.3.4 READ THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798210
for 2.3.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145
PLEASE ask somebody twice before doing anything!
If you are on locked 2.3.5 254_13, you may try flashing this 2.3.5 radio only SBF.

otherwise do not flash the above. please refer Photon 4G development section for 2.3.4 radio
IF you are having an unlocked 2.3.4 boot loader, NEVER flash anything that says 2.3.5

Hi, I have a Verizon Droid Razr Maxx and I have been rooted for a while with the stock ICS rom but I wanted to try one of the custom roms out there. First I tried MIUI and I had no service then I did black widow and It had service but only 3G/1X. I restored back to stock with DroidRazrUtility 1.8 and I am still only getting 3G/1x.
I have another 4G phone that is getting 4G service so it's not an outage. Also, I tried swapping the sims in the phone and the Razr still won't connect to 4G.
Does anybody know what's wrong?

Ok I think i can fix your problem. Try this. First off, in ICS there is no way to check for settings as "CDMA ONLY" like Gingerbread. They removed the option in all their infinite wisdom. Download this program "Phone Info" from the market place. GO to the first option of "Phone Information". Scroll to the bottom, you should see a bunch of fields and one states the frequency of the antenna. It will be above the "Turn off Radio" button. It allows you to change it to literally anything available whether the phone can find the signal or not. It may be on "CDMA only (auto PRL)" This is only 3g as you probably guessed. Make sure it is on this "LTE/CDMA/EVDO/GSM/WCDMA". This is the normal frequency and will do 4g/3g/1x. Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions. I went to the phone info page and tried the suggested settings and even tried a few other's but nothing seems to get a 4G connection.
Again I checked my other 4G phone and it is connected to 4G so I know it's not an outage.
I changed to to LTE ONLY just to see what would happend and it indicated that the radio is off but with no way to turn it on. You know the button that says "Turn on radio" won't toggle like it will on the other settings. I am not sure if that means anything.
Ah well ibforgot about dialing the service number. Phone info takes you to that menu anyways
