Tried searching these forums, other forums, the internets and can't find anything - which leads me to think maybe this is a stupid question for some reason, but I don't understand why
I'm experimenting with SIP/VOIP on my Android device (Galaxy Nexus).
I'm using the SIP account settings in the stock dialer app, this works fine for dialing/voice.
The issue is there are no similar SIP settings for the stock SMS client...
is this simply a feature that was not added for some reason?
is there a technical reason why this is not possible? (other third party clients support it)
or can the stock SMS client use SIP and I just can't figure it out?
Thank you kindly for any help, and for your patience.
Did you ever find a answer to this? I'm going through the same process right now and this seems to be a stumbling block. Thanks,
I too have been looking for ways to make this work.
I've read that vanilla SIP itself doesn't support SMS but with extensions it does, so first check with your VOIP provider, then with your SIP app/client. (though these were random forum comments not necessarily from experts, as is this one). Also note that some providers or apps do this "properly" with (as I gather) something called SIP MESSAGE extension, some do it with HTTP push and pull requests behind the scenes. (E.g. some elaboration on reddit "sip_and_sms" - sorry I can't post links)
My provider les.net, claims to have this working with Asterisk (full PBX software : - (, with Bria (paid SIP client), and with CSipSimple (open source SIP client).
So even though my provider doesn't "support" or document it, I first tried it with the native Android SIP client but I still get the "Currently can't send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available." message (even when SIP calls are working).
And even with one of their suggested clients, CSipSimple, I set it up exactly as they document and I still get the same "Currently can't send..." message.
So anyone else more expert than me, please chime in if you can!!
...and yes I know this is a bleeping old thread.

Hey Fellows,
SendReceiveAll is just a small program that i created for my own use. In default Windows Mobile client, if you have multiple email accounts and they are set to manual download, like it is with me, While checking mail you need to go to each account and click send and receive. This is a bit tedious.
SO this program, which is a small, no-gui, .net cf app does so. It calls send and receive for all outlook email accounts. This way you can tap it once and then wait for your emails to finish loading at their own pace.
Its a very simple start and i haven't done anything profound with it. Its just an idea that clicked me.
Suggestions and Ideas are welcome from all of you
Thanks!
UPDATE : Here is the link to cab file for this utility. I haven't tested it so cant say about how reliable it is. Thanks to post&telecommunications to make and post it
SendRecieveAll v.1 Cab File
PS: It seems that this doesn't works if you have multiple IMAP accounts. The problem I think happens because IMAP accounts cannot be updated in "Background, Asynchronously". So If thats the case with you, I am sorry, I don't have any solutions right now. I will see if anything can be done about it
Thanks. Works like a charm
Glad to know that you found it useful
Yeah, I've found it a bit tricky to check all my accounts.
For further development, is it possible that you can implement a progressbar that shows, when an account is ready and maybe a dialog that shows how many emails are downloaded per account?
Yeah, I was also having these things in my mind right at the time of developing this version and i am working on these. Actually the method i use to call the sync facility of messaging application is not synchronous , ie. my app doesnt get to know when did the messaging app finished. It gets control back immediately. So i'll have to find a better way to do that. Thanks for the suggestion
Manilla sync data
Thanks for the progy! It would be nice to have this integrate with the Manila "Sync Data" button under settings, Currently this only works for syncing Activesync, but the description does say "and Internet data"
Is any software for Send only?
Is any application for Pocket Outlook, when I want only Send (not Send and Receive)?
Nice application - some suggestions
Great little application! I’ve been wanting something like this for ages – I didn’t want to set my mail accounts to send and receive every 10 or 30 minutes, I wanted them to sync when I picked up the phone and pressed a button – now I can do it without going to my gmail, yahoo, hotmail and Exchange Server pages separately!
As others have pointed out – having something that said mail account 1 of 4 synchronising would be good for progress – at the moment I don’t know whether I’ve got no emails or it hasn’t worked correctly.
If you are going to end up adding options to this, then auto disconnecting the data connection when all mail boxes are synchronised would save me another button press!
Making it work directly from send/receive in Manila is a great suggestion from ‘anothersmith’ – in the mean time I can’t get it to assign to the programs tab in Manila or via Hbutton – it doesn’t pick it up…..?
Good work.
Splelling errror!!
The reason I'm struggling to get the Hbutton to assign via the registry is that the .exe file is spelt incorrectly!
You've got it as SendRecieveAll.exe
Hbutton thread that shows registy values if anyone wants it for now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306794&page=2
Usefull application...thanks lot..
By the way ...i got problem coz im use diferent network (3g ,home and wifi)..i should sett the smtp manually before clickthis
great effort
Hi Friends,
Sorry for delay in response i was out of town Thanks for all the great responses. So i guess these are the changes i should try to implement :
1. Visual Notification of the progress and optional data disconnection at the end.
2. Integration with Manilla Sync.
3. Option to send only.
@brandall: If you add a sound to "New Email" notification in Start>Settings>Sounds and Notifications applet, you will recieve a standard notification from the messaging app about the newly recieved emails automatically. I get it on my phone.
@all: Since i only have a HTC Gene at my disposal, i cannot experiment with TouchFlo 3D features. I guess you people are talking about the sync button on tf3d, right? So can anybody tell me the integration procedure for touchflo 3d, i mean the registry keys and all.
I have 3 IMAP accounts, but it only sends/receive the last one
By the way, your app is a great idea!
I have exactly the same. 6 IMAP and it sends / receives only the last one.
Idea is great. Please correct the problem.
Oh, i didn't test it on imap, and i just returned from a long tour. I will look into it asap.
I think that the solution is to make the application aware of the synchronization status on outlook, which apparently can't send and receive from different IMAP accounts at the same time..
But it's only a personal hypothesis since I don't have the foggiest idea of how to program.
it will be greate to make gui with send/recive all... sen all ... recive alll
Hi Great app
one question, can run background? or hiden whith screen off?
i use another app to trigger the send/recieve mail by sms.
thanks
Hey Krazy - any update on this?
The original version I have still gets used every day for me!
great work however I removed .net due to memory restrictions on my xv6700 is there anyway to get the source so we can try to get this recompiled in c that way all devices could use your wonderful program. thank u again for listening
thank you for this wonderful piece of work.
Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.
SGH-i777 running CM 7.1.0 on Android 2.3.7. Carrier is obviously AT&T.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to add my Exchange account to the stock e-mail program. I've tried:
* Countless variations of server, domain, and username settings. I've followed this guide **can't post link** and several other guides. I do have access to my company's server information, and while I'm not sure which server is actually being used, I've tried them *all*, several times, and gotten nowhere. With a WiFI connection (no firewall) and just 3G data, signed in or signed out of Outlook Anywhere. No luck, just "Unable to open connection to server".
* K-9 connected to my account, but I was unable to see any e-mails - none would load, even when I had it force check. So I uninstalled it (would rather use the stock app anyway).
Is this a problem with my signal? I read that someone got help from their carrier - they made a custom APN, but that was in another country so I'm a bit skeptical. Can't call Samsung (it's Sunday) and their website offers no help. It's possible my IT doesn't allow phones to read mail, but that's highly unlikely - we've got lots of employees in the field, so this seems like common sense.
I did a lot of digging and this might be an old issue, but it gets pretty technical and I'm obviously a n00b.
What am I missing here???? PLEASE fill me in - I've put hours into this!!
It's quite possible that your IT group who manages your Exchange environment isn't allowing non-approved devices to connect. Typically these are security-certificate based and/or mandatory VPN requirements. I would suggest asking your Exchange administrator in your IT department about this policy.
Under Domain/username, did you try putting the "\" in front of your username? To configure mine I did this and had to use the host name as the Exchange server. Some things to try anyway if you haven't already.
Also ran into issues setting up under a public wifi at work, had to use the ATT network to make it connect for some reason.
I have my work exchange account set up.
Are you making sure to connect to the external exchange server (sometimes different from internal)?
Have you asked your administrator for exchange login details (my IT dept sent out a company-wide email once with those details)?
You might have to type the server name in manually if it doesn't auto-detect (the case with my work email).
Now, my work isn't as strict, but as the previous poster said; you're exchange server might not allow unauthorized devices to connect. In which case you'll have to contact your IT dept.
They may have simply blocked all android devices (until recently didn't support hardware encryption, and spoofed exchange permissions). If that's true, educate them.
The server name may be a link rather than a server name. Ours is mibile.XXXXX.com for example.
probably related to your company's settings. I run my own exchange server and got it sync'd fine with the current cyanogen nightly
I had problems with the stock email and our ms exchange server. I could set it up, but after a while it stopped syncing and I could never really get it back to work. I switched to Touchdown, and after a little trial and error with setup, it's working fine for me. There is a trial version for 30 days or so that you could give a shot. Happy to give you some pointers.

+1 for touchdown. I've been using it for about a year. It's far superior to any exchange solution the Google offers. I only wish it would populate Google calendar as it does the Google contacts. The UI is getting dated as well. I wish they would come out with a cosmetic update or theme capability.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I have just found this example: SipDemo and I have noticed you need, of course, to add the username, password and domain of the used SIP server.
The example shows a walkietalkie, but I would like to have a normal phone call kind of thing.
I was wondering whether there are free and reliable servers for SIP communications.
What I would like to have is just 1 account and every user of mine should be able to call each other in that way.
I am considering both:
-Hosting my own SIP server on my side;
-Using an already existent FREE server.
Probably each user should have its own account, then I believe the easiest way is to have the server on my side. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
First of all, I am sorry if this question has already been answered but I couldn't find what I was looking for in Google, neither here, in the forums.
I am looking for an app / way to manage my SMS from my desktop computer. Phone and desktop are on the same WIFI network (if it helps).
I have tried Pushbullet, MightyText, Join, etc.
AFAIK, MightyText was the best solution, but at some point it stopped working had issues of telling me on the computer the SMS was sent, while it was not phone side...
Join on the over side, looks promising, however using it in Firefox (instead of Chrome), removes such convenient features such as getting notifications of new messages directly on my computer screen, moreover, it doesn't seem to recognize (ie. import / export) the messages I am sending from Signal (which is my main SMS app).
Ideally, I am looking for a way to manage my text message on my desktop running Linux and Firefox, with notifications ! Be it a standalone app, command line app, or even a linux friendly website (or in the worst case, a firefox extension).
Thanks a lot for your input.
Try Yappy. I was fedup with MightyText, MySMS and AirDroid. Yappy seems to do what I want.
Thanks a lot for your answer. Will give it a try.
