[Q] Problem with sdcard foldername - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need a help,
I installed cm10.1. had problem with flashdisk adapter (cant mount external usb drive), so i back to ics
the problem now is, the /sdcard folder-name had changed into /Root
it should not be a problem until I managed to root it, only /sdcard folder known by system, so I cant install root
it might have another problems in the future
what should I do ?

Ok, i really need a help here
so, I installed cm10.1,
i flashed recovery.tar.md5, bootloader and the ROM
everything is ok except USB connection (at that time, i didnt know about check-box mtp connection), so i managed to back to ICS
i flashed older recovery.tar.mds which i have in the same folder as my ics rom (this is my big mistake), i was thinking that recovery and rom are pair. I dont know if i flash ics rom, it also have recovery inside it. after i flashed recovery.tar.md5, the folder /sdcard is not recognized by cmw although it is there. then everything is going wrong, it cant access /sdcard/Android/obb file (some games need to download to this folder and it always failed, even if i copied manually to obb folder, still cant)
what i need is, how to fix the /sdcard folder, it is there, it just dont recognized by system
and now im back to cm10.1 again, the folder /sdcard doesnt have 0 folder, i tried to make a 0 folder but it doesnt help
now i cant install anything that need /sdcard/Android/obb
how can i flash / format / reinstall everything just like a new one ?
sorry about my poor english

Maybe you should start all over again by using odin to flash back to official ICS. You will lose root, but then some of those things may be corrected and when you are sure everything is working well, you can then root again before attempting the cm 10.1.
Best of luck.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app

I did flash ICS stock rom, even with stock honeycomb none is work
i have a feeling its just about a syntax like mount /mnt/sdcard /sdcard or something like that
i just dont know what to modify and where is the script's located
i dont understand ubuntu, im just a beginner linux user
poor me

[Q] [SOLVED]A little help here please.

Hello all.
Well, here is my problem. I was searching for some theme to change the "colors" of the menu of my device. SInce i couldn't find one, i just started to read a lot, and try to do it myself.
Well, I followed the instructions... and finally got my framework-res. The only problem was that the size of the file was lower thatn the original one. Anyway, I just went to root explorer, took my new framework-res.apk and replaced it on framework folder in internal storage.
The problem is that now my device won't start, I mean... it's stuck on the samsung logo, doing the animation over and over and over. Well I tried to get to the original framework-res, but I don't know how since I cannot replace things because I can't use a file explorer.
I searched some themes on the forum, thinking that maybe the framework-res would be replaced for the new one, and then it would work. Well it doesnt.
I have kph rom, and tried with "Dark simplify theme" and "circle battery kph" couse it's supposed to be stock theme with the circle battery...
Now, I dont know what to do, I dont know how to make an update.zip myself (I tried searching and learning but i just don understand).
I think i would reflash my system but, My internal partition was transformed to ext4 with cf-root, and I read a lot that If i want to flash any other rom, I have to change it to rfs first, but i can't do it couse i can't get to the ext4manager application.
So any ideas? please?
Thanks in advance.
ps: okay, i was a little desesperated when I wrote this (i still am). I searched for some with ext4 compatiblity. I have just tried gingerReal now. It's working. I'm gonna change the internal storage to rfs again, and flash kph.
Bootloop is really common here
you don;t need to reflash, if you have working framework-res.apk you just need to raplace it..
copy framework-res.apk to your sdcard
connect your phone to computer when in recovery
mount system partition using CWM
then using adb follow this command
adb shell
su
cd /sdcard
cp framework-res.apk /system/framework/
reboot
done
also if you reflash your ace using odin to stock one, ext4 partition automatically reverted to rfs

Hi thanks for the answer. About the adb, that is supossed to be used in a pc, right? (sorry I never used it, i have just used terminal emulator in the device itself). I mean, I enter cmd, write adb shell and i'm in? (i have already installed sdk and all the neccesary things)
About the ext4 to rfs, well thanks! nice to know that ahaha . I have already flashed kph again, so it's all working now. But the next time, I'll do what you say. I guess I already know about adb shell, but I dont know how to use it (i get easily confuse when it comes to apply commands). Well, that's what I love of all of this. You screw things up, you get really nervous, but then you know you can solve it and it is the best ahaha.
Thank you!.

[Q] Villain rom 2.3 root?

I tried every thing I could find on google.
I couldnt manage to copy brut maps over to system/app folder.
I used emulator and adb . But it keeps saying no acess or somethingæ
I used «whoami» it said root but still I couldent do anything
Even tried rooy exploret too no luck
Any one know what to do?
I have this problem too. The problem is not the ROM, it's the kernel (insecure kernels let you do whatever you want anytime). You are blocked from the system partition by default from the PC side; if you want to copy something to the system partition the easiest way to do so is to copy it to your SD card then transfer it over on your phone with a root filesystem manager.

[ZIP] PRIME-FULL-WIPE Format /System /Cache and all of /Data [ZIP]UPDATE 31/05/12

THIS ZIP WILL FORMAT YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY CARD ALONG WITH SYSTEM AND CACHE. YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING BUT RECOVERY ON YOUR PRIME!!!
IF YOU DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN, MOVE ALONG, THIS AIN'T FOR YOU!!!
AS WITH ANY FLASHING PROCESS, SOMETHING COULD GO WRONG!!!
NEITHER I NOR XDA SHALL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE
THAT YOU CAUSE BY FLASHING THIS ZIP!!!
Now that's out of the way, let me explain the reasons for this zip's existence.
I personally do not like having things left hanging around on my phone's SDcard
after I flash a new ROM onto it, I usually back up my data and format the card too.
It struck me that due to the nature of having an internal SDcard in the Prime
There most surely be stuff hanging around in there from all the flashing I've done.
I also find that hunting down application folders for apps that I have since deleted
can be rather tiresome as they are not always labelled as expected.
Maybe I'm just lazy, but there you go.
Now you can simply install this Zip and all of your partitions will be fresh and clean.
So that's why this zip was born unto the world.
ONCE AGAIN, THIS ZIP WILL FORMAT YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY CARD ALONG WITH SYSTEM AND CACHE. YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING BUT RECOVERY ON YOUR PRIME!!!
BEFORE STARTING, MAKE SURE YOU CAN ACCESS YOUR PRIME THROUGH ADB IN RECOVERY!!!!
INSTRUCTIONS: (THIS GUIDE ASSUMES YOU KNOW HOW TO SETUP AND USE ADB)
1. Download prime-full-wipe.zip to your Prime.
2. Backup everything from your internal SDcard to a location that exists outside of your Prime. USB Hard drive, flash drive or another SDcard.
3. After making certain that your data is safe, reboot your Prime to recovery. (zip will work in both CWM and TWRP)
4. flash the zip.
5. Once complete, you will need to reboot to recovery manually otherwise ADB push will not behave correctly.
6. After a successful reboot to recovery, open up Terminal or Command Prompt.
7. Push a new ROM.zip to your Prime via the command
Code:
adb push /path/to/rom.zip /sdcard/
If "/sdcard/" doesn't work, which sometimes happens use
Code:
adb push path/to/rom.zip /data/media/
for some reason it seems that "/sdcard/" is not seen all the time. So far seems to be a windows issue only.
8. Install your new ROM and enjoy that factory fresh taste.
I hope that these instructions are clear enough. If anyone needs help I or someone else will be happy to assist.
I STRESS AGAIN, THIS ZIP WILL FORMAT YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY CARD ALONG WITH SYSTEM AND CACHE. YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING BUT RECOVERY ON YOUR PRIME!!!
Credits to mero01 for the original idea and Team Virtuous for some sexy code used in the zip file.
KOUSH for CWM and Team Win for TWRP
Big thanks to swiss-prime and anthonyexmouth for being patient men/windows guinea pigs!
Thanks to Nandrew for pointing out that users may need to reflash CWM if experiencing ROM Manager errors after flashing this ZIP!.
UPDATE: 31/05/12
OK, so to anyone that has had problems pushing a new rom to the SD card after using this zip file. I have found some rather odd behaviour that sometimes occurs when formatting the Prime.
After many hours of testing yesterday, I found that when using CWM I simply couldn't push a file to the sdcard no matter whether I was pushing to "/sdcard/" or "/data/media/"
The only way I was able to get a rom onto the sd card was to eventually flash TWRP using fastboot and push the file after booting into TWRP. However after doing so and then getting a rom installed on the Prime, when looking through the file structure with Root explorer I found that the sdcard symlink had not actually been re-created properly, the file was there, but it was not showing as a folder, and as such, I believe that this is where the problem some people are having stems from.
The only solution that I found was to re-flash the full-wipe.zip again in TWRP and then push a rom onto the sdcard again. After successfully getting back into a working rom, I checked out the file structure and the alias had been properly re-created this time.
The behaviour is very weird and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. However, if you have had issues pushing to the sd card after using my zip, I can only apologise for your worry.
I hope that the above makes sense and helps people out who feel that they are now up sh*t creak without a paddle.
To be clear I do not believe this to be an issue caused by CWM, I believe it to be a Prime issue.
Update 01/06/12
Nandrew pointed out to me that you will receive non-critical error messages from CWM about a missing log file after using this ZIP. Once you have made a backup, a log file will be created and these error messages will cease.
You may also need to reflash CWM if you experience rom manager errors.

This looks really helpful Dok - thanks! I seem to have accumulated a mass of crap on my SD card and I was wondering what to do with it...
I do have one question (not directly related to your zip). I have all this stuff on my SD card but I don't know which folders contain app user data and what can be safely deleted. Will TiBu restore all necessary user data to /sdcard after using this (obviously after copying the TiBu folder back to /sdcard ) or do I need to figure out what user data I need to keep for each of my apps before I wipe?
Hope that makes sense! Thanks again for this.

I haven't used TiBU yet, I made this zip and flashed it last night, then just flashed it again earlier, so I am currently with a Prime with no ROM.
I think though that TiBU should behave as normal, You may need to re-download app data for some of the biggies like games that have a separate download after the install.
Before I flashed it last night, I backed up the entire contents of the card to a USB hard drive, to make certain that I didn't lose anything at all.
<Edit> Nevermind... I read the whole post!

Thanks. I guess I am just not quite sure how TiBu works. When you do an normal factory reset thru CWM and leave /sdcard intact does TiBu restore a link to app user data located on /sdcard or does it completely rewrite it based on whats in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/?
Doesn't really matter. I will just back everything up before I use this. I know I need to clean up /sdcard but am a bit chicken to use this

Just finished restoring my TiBU and all my apps and relevant data are intact after only copying across the TiBU folder.
Im glad someone finally made this for everyone else. I had once had a problem with my prime that no matter how many times i wiped and reflashed my status bar was not working and when i tried to return to my back up of stock it was giving me read errors restoring the data section and would stop. I had to modify a zip to format what this does and then reflash and then everything worked again. Wiped my tf201 clean but hay it worked again and thats what mattered.
I would love to try this out but I am absolutely too scared of this ADB thing to work on pushing the Zip to the Prime...I figure I will brick it..

I would have a look at the naked ADB driver thread here very useful for windows users and should help put some of those fears to rest.
Yes and if you follow this guide to install ADB it will be easy:

ok, when you say reboot into recovery do you mean "fastboot"
cant find device in adb. using win7 with naked drivers.
Yeah, I dont think I am that gutsy to take this risk. But Ill keep researching it. I would like to start fresh as possible..

No I mean exactly as I said. After flashing in recovery, you have to reboot back into recovery. It is a funny quirk that I may need to look into further.
No then, to your problem. Do you have an irc client on your computer? If so, come over to #asus-transformer on freenode irc and we can talk in real time.
If not, then I will endeavour to assist you here.
Gonna take the zip down for a moment until we can sort this out.
ok, rebooted into recovery and it now sees it in adb. i get a load of E: cant open lines but i guess thats cuz they aint there.
adb push "rom" /sdcard
all looks like its doing it but been stuck there for 20 mins.
leaving it just in case.

[Q] Help! How to flash kernel, rom, etc. from totally stock YP-G1? I'm a total noob

Hi people. I've been browsing a lot lately and Reading about roms, kernel, and other stuff related to customization of Android devices. I consider myself enough tech-savvy to understand technical things about hardware on this devices but when it comes to all the thing related to flashing roms and kernels and related things i have no clue of what you're talking about, lol.
However, I'm really interested on "installing" Cyanogenmod 10 on my Galaxy Player 4 just to see what happens and how flashing roms feels like, so i can try different roms later and enhance my device. But no matter how hard I try to find a tutorial about how to begin from total stock (as the device comes from the store) haven't been lucky finding one. As far as I know the first step is flashing a new kernet with CWM, so then i can flash the roms. But I'm stuck on Step One :s
So, if there's a link you can post here to help begin with this flashing trend it'd be great. Or if you can redact a "custom" tutorial for me, a total programming noob but interested as hell about modifying my GP4 that would be a thousand times better.
Also, feel free to recommend me kernels or roms or whatever you feel i could use
Thanks!!!
PD: not native english speaker
I just finished doing this exact thing myself, so its fresh in my mind First, BACK UP!! there are different methods with varying degrees of how much they back up, search the forum for them. Definitely backup the efs. Instructions are in the first post for the CM10 ROM. Then, I began by flashing a custom kernel using Odin. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the Tips and Tricks section of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27615927
Kernels can also be found in the appropriate section of that post. Make sure you get one for your device. All of them include CWM (ClockworkMod) which is what you need to easily flash a full ROM. The kernel won't actually effect your current operating system accept to maybe improve performance.
Next, download the ROM file(s) onto your device. ROMs are also in the above post. Again, make sure you get one for your device. Read the instructions in the ROM thread on how exactly to flash them, but the general procedure is to boot into CWM by holding some set of buttons during start up (probably power + volume up) and navigate the CWM menu to flash the ROM.

Is Terra Silent compatible with CM10??? Reading the thread of Terra Silent a user made a comment on this asking the developer (i guess) to make Terra Silent compatible with CM10.... :s
ok now i have some problems...
got to flash the Terra Silent Kernel. After rebooting everything was ok. Installed Rom Manager in order to install CWM. Rom Manager installed CMW and then came back to main menu. There was an option for creating a copy of the stock rom, thought it wolud be a good idea to make a copy. When i did it, phone went black and then reboted. after rebooting came back to the lock screen but changed language (spanish -> english). Algo noticed there was missing the google search bar. When entered to the apps menu there were a lot of icons of the android robot with an SD card symbol over. When clicked them it says that the apps are not installed on the system.
installed rom manager again, and went to recovery boot. flashed both cm9 and cm 10 included in the cm 10 thread. Now my playr is stuck in the recovery screen...
what do i do?

I did this change, switched numbers and now i can see the files on the sd card. Only that before flashing CM 10 the access to the sd card was through a folder calles "externa sd", now the sd card files and folders are scattered on the home screen of any file explorer i acess the sd card with. It's not a big ideal but i dont like it.
When i edited the file you told me there was a 1 after where now says sdcard 1. Shoud that number be erased or better keep it?

[Q]How to get back proper /sdcard/ where it all shows up after bootload unlock cwm?

Only problem is after going unlocked lots of folders don't appear correctly on the phone and the computer like folders will be on the phone but not on the computer.
The /sdcard/ is pretty tore up after bootloader unlock it seems lots of recovery's among other .zips and .imgs like to screw with the EFS table and just royal f* up the whole system in terms of proper adb push /sdcard/. Since files simply don't show up on sdcard either one or the other.
On stock rom the /sdcard/ was correct and everything showed up the same on the device and on the windows computer. Copy paste into /sdcard/0media/music/ fine worked great on stock rom. Now partition tables and permissions basically are all locked down in unusual malicious manors. Unlike in the old HTC HD2 days or atrix days where most everything is dialed in and malicious free, it appears not running stock is malicious heaven in terms of invasion of privacy and literally just pissing us off. Why is it that once you go bootloader unlocked the partition /sdcard/ mtp transfers/ folder visibility goes to hell?
Right now for instance i had to sideload on cwm only cm10.2 and 10.2gapps and in android cm10.2 right now. Browsing file manager on /sdcard/ i see 10 folders and it says 0 so I guess /sdcard/0?!?!?!? I mean what the hell is that all about? Keep me in /sdcard/ and not have all this weird ass directories like 0 and legacy and all this crap with folders showing up hit or miss I want a start directory and no others!
So is the EFS partition/ permissions that get all warped to holy heck when going bootloader unlock?
If this still isn't making sense maybe I can be a tad bit more clear. Fresh stock cm10.2 and 10.2 gapps blank cleared out sdcard with nothing I added, I deleted every single folder/ file before formatting it in twrp only. Though twrp has a flawed as hell sideload and same issues with adb push and sideload complete and utter failures from the fault of TWRP. So after i formatted sdcard in twrp i flashed recovery cwm and can only succeed in adb sideload since adb push was faulty. Now im on 10.2 and 10.2 gapps and the /sdcard/ is just royally tore up.
Now cm 10.2 (Official Stable Release) mind you put a whole bunch of bullsh*t folders in there and according to stock cm 10.2 file manager on a fresh install after wiping everything. Which once you press on File Manager we are immediately set in a directory is mentioned to be /storage/emulated/0 is the root of the File Manager...
What does that tell you why is it choosing to start in /storage/emulated/0? Then you plug it in the computer over MTP and its in a completely different directory... but why?
Thanks
