You have to make your own decision.
Everyone has a different taste, and everyone will tell you differently (as you can see).
What I can tell you though is that stock ROM is THE most stable ROM.
All custom ROMs are based on it. Except CM, AOSP, AOKP which are built from source.
Take a look at these two threads and choose your ROM+kernel combo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31374263
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887855
ExPeacer MIUI 2.9.21 its stable and fast.
Hey I hate it when ppl say u hav to try em all ... Lol ... So I made this thread about my views of the ROMs ive tested ..
Check it out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31919501

So far, SlimKat, because it gives you all features from AOSX/CM plus features you would either way install via Xposed. This way, I have all that I want without Xposed good work on porting @Gava97, I'm very satisfied!
Rooted, zipaligned, deodexed 4.4.2 on my XZ.

Using Slimkat, waiting for AOSX V2
