Post your query in proper thread!
As for your question, rafael's kernel is stable(sim contacts have to be backed up first). Custom kernel provides more compatibility, frequencies and tweaks for the phone(init.d support for flashing scripts etc.)! Download any version according to your requirement!

Its whatever driver the rom is using ..Depends on what source code had been released thats why recently we got the mali 2 driver then v3...If you flash a v3 kernel with a v2 rom you most likely will get bootloop or blackscreen ..
Plus with dori kernel you can temporary lose root cos of googles wonderful (joke) se linux protection..Thats why you need to read and understand whats going on ..No tbeing funny with you but its all got a little complicated ..Dori only decided to implement the mali v3 around a week or so ago cos he is running slim rom ..and users like me wasnt able to use doris kernel anymore..If I can help you in anyway you can always pm me ...

[DEV][PORTING]Linux 3.4.x/3.10.x/3.12.x Kernel for I9300

Hey guys!
As you maybe know, we have the newest Android 4.4 but only a 3.0 Kernel. But we need the newer versions since Android is based of this new ones and if the gap between our version and Google's version is too big, it will take a long time to reach this. So i would say: "We need a newer kernel, let's go for it!" and i wanted to know if anybody is willing or if somebody is even able to port the 3.4 (or a newer version like 3.10 or 3.12) to our device to get better performance and to be safe to get all updates. If anybody is able and wants to help, please write it here or PM me. Also we should form a dev team to have the control over this project.
So if anybody is willing to, I will really appreciate it. I start this project on my own and you can join in to help and contribute your knowledge to this project. I will provide more info if needed. And yes, I know that it will be difficult but it is possible to reach the target.
Greets and best regards,
markey
If you want, have a look over here:Thread in development discussion section
Edit1: As i've seen in the poll, everybody (till now) wants the 3.4 kernel to be ported. So I have another question: Do you want me to port the 3.10 (or higher) Kernel also, after the 3.4 is running stable?
If yes, just write at the end of your post. Thanks. :good:
Edit2: I have decided to start porting the 3.1x+ Kernel based on dorimanx' sources first and then will try to port 3.4 cause 3.4 will have a better ability to be well integrated into Android till now and 3.10+ will take us one step further and keep us on track for the next Android versions which will be propably based on 3.8 or 3.10 Kernel.
If you have questions what this upgrade will (roughly) bring us, have a look at my last post in this thread.
This is great. It will be HARD, but, worth it. Just, maybe, this will see completion one day. I'll copy in kernel devs if I were you.

edit. go for 3.10-3.12 of course, the Sky's the limit, but 3.4 is a good stopgap as it runs on similar Samsung-devices ...
Someone could try merging dorimanx smdk4210 (s2) Kernel. He has already merged most of 3.13, and our s3 kernel is also working for s2, after cm had merged some parts.

Thank you for that great info DerTeufel, I will see when I can start to merge it and work on it. So it would mean, we could directly start at 3.13. Isn't that great? I will search for his git, and then i will compare our actual kernels with a 3.0 s2 kernel and see what i have to change. Most difficult part will be to get it booting...rest shouldn't be a thing that big. Let's wait and see.

No its no stupid question, just ask if you want to know anything. You're welcome and i am here to answer questions :good:
And now to your question: For now, its meant to run on AOSP ROMs and then afterwards, I will take a deeper look and see if I can get it running good on Sammy, so just wait a bit
And I think I will add features of googy-max kernel, devil-kernel, boeffla-kernel...whatever you want, just write it then when its running fine, and i will try to add it.
I also already thought about adding dual-boot, so yes, you will most likely see Sammy support in this kernel. And afterwards, I will try to make it a kexec kernel and get multiROM or sth like this running, to have e.g. Android and Ubuntu Touch on 1 single device

Very nice initiative. Devs in SGS Plus (i9001) also made a fully working 3.4 kernel from the scratch (CAF sources at least ) and now they can release KitKat without pains

Haha I know, I own this device myself and followed all developement of the 3.4 Kernel and all other work done by ADC team. :good: They used CAF sources but we will use sources from dorimanx cause we have an exynos processor.
Erik is a good dev, isn't he? Thanks to him we also got dual boot and I think we can also get further versions of Android thanks to ADC team.
Well, we will see how good I can get this working in a short time.

Khronos Kernel for SM-G850F

Khronos Kernel for SM-G850F!
Main features.
Latest Linux Kernel: 3.10.100
CPU Clock: A15 (1.8~0.2 Ghz)
A7(1.3~0.2Ghz)
Compile with UBER TC 6.0
Based on SM-G850F OI3 Kernel soruce.
Q:Why you don't add features like OPEN GL Es 3.1?
A:Well.. I'm just owning SM-G850S, which is Korean varient of SM-G850F, so i can't test. And I also want you to enjoy Linux upstream.
Q:Can I use this in Cyanogen or AOSP Based ROM?
A:Nope. This is for sammy rom which android version is above 5.0. In other hand, it works with Lollipop Touchwiz based rom.
How to use?
1. Download
2.Install in TWRP
3. Enjoy
What should I do if there's error with WiFi like it cannot remember password or turn on slowly?

Downclock is actually making CPUs jump to higher freqs more frequently.
Cafactive can't compensate for that. Exynos cpufreq is different and reports load differently. Especially due to IPA CPU calibration coefficients.
In my experience, while I had Galaxy Alpha and built kernel for it, downclock was actually making phone a bit stuttery at times. At same time cpufreq reports high load for goven freq and governor jumps it up. Plus at any time Galaxy Alpha has (mostly) 4 cores working depending on load (either a7 or a15 depending on workload). And jumping freq to all 4 cores in a cluster can be very battery draining.
Upstream can break some Samsung proprietary drivers. In newer chipsets it won't break those drivers.
Try cherry-picking HMP changes from my kernel made by @halaszk88
Power suspend driver, Motorola quickwakeup driver and kernel NEON mode will make wonders to battery life. Plus setting toolchain to compile for a7 (not a15). Those things will prolong normal usage by at least 30%. I had 4.5h SOT at average 50% brightness (on 1860mAh battery). Quite nice
Hope I helped
And I may use those new mali GPU drivers when I find time to build kernel for G900H

If stability and battery are the main considerations, would you advise using one of these kernels with miui or staying with the stock kernel?

That strongly depends on your usage pattern. But custom kernels are made to perform better than stock kernels. Every kernel has its own characteristics, some are performance biased and some biased towards battery savings. But for everyday usage I'd suggest a kernel which can balance both performance and power savings.
As far as kernels for mido which have MIUI support, I'd suggest Stormguard kernel as it is pretty well balanced.
But in the future if you plan on flashing a custom ROM then go for Franco or ElectraBlue kernel.

Tbh i don't think that miui should be used with a custom kernel, cuz the rom is already optimised. And the kernel in made to work efficiently, so in a word no tbh.
But mann why are you not trying out the custom roms if you are having an unlocked bootloader? I mean there lies a whole world of awesomeness and performance on the other side of rom world

Only because I have a problem with custom ROMs, but not with MIUI ROMs, where the phone goes into a bootloop, apparently from overheating. If I could solve that, I would certainly use custom ROMs.

If you want to like prevent overheating, then what you can do is like underclock the kernel. Setting the max frequency to something around 1.3 to 1.0 ghz will greatly help with the temps.

I like miui but I'm annoyed by the bug Wich causes the CPU to get stuck at 1689 MHz till I reboot.
I would like to flash a custom kernel to get rid of this or just find the fix.
