Memory Management Settings on Hellybean 4.2.1 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone using memory management settings such as zRam, Allow purging of assets, and Kernel samepage merging? My Fassy has about 40 or less MB of RAM available at all times and enabling all 3 of these features sounds pretty appealing haha. Is there a disadvantage to enabling them? The description of what they do sounds like it's all advantage and no disadvantage. If I set zRam I would make it 18% (default). So my question is should I enable all 3, enable only 2, only 1? Lastly, any drawbacks/disadvantages to enabling any of them if not all? Thanks!

There's no disadvantages enable all the suckas that's what everybody does anyway lol it makes your device a hella lot faster I also recommend going into build.prop tweaks and enabling Just In Time Compiler

Yeah when I tap it it stays lit up for a few seconds then finally it goes away and still no check. I tested 3G Speed Hack and Optimize TCP...they take a while too but eventually do get a check mark just JIT won't get a check mark

System Tuner

Anyone uses this app yet. It was recommend by Clemsyn on XDA as a better alternative to setcpu. I download the free version in the market, but the UI is a bit confusing. Seems like a little better optimization available.

I saw his recommendation and downloaded the free version. I its a little overwhelming as i'm still noobish, but it seems to have a larger breadth of options than set cpu. As far as its relative reliability, i'm not sure. There is no "apply" button for uv steps tho, so an unintentional finger slip can cause your phone to freeze! just try it out, see if you like it I guess

I have been using this ever since it came out it replaces a lot of apps out there and the CPU tuner is compatible with dual core phones and utilizes them completely. It has an app manager, auto starts, frequency controls, sd booster and many more uses. I for one think it is one of the best apps I have in my root arsenal .

I was using this for a little and noticed something weird im running the v6 supercharger scripts and in my memory settings the last mem setting would change from 275mb to 256mb. I tried everything so that it wouldnt mess with my supercharger scripts but no go. I unistalled it and everything has been back to normal. Anyone else notice this?

[Temp "fix"] helps with multitasking issue a little

Hey everyone! I know some people have done this and said it helped but I'm sure there's a bunch who have never heard of this so figured I'd make a thread. What I'm going to explain is how to change the min free values and make the multitasking slightly less aggressive.
1.download system tuner (you can do this in the free version if you haven't gotten the pro version but pro is definafely worth the cost)
2.open up system tuner, grant superuser, and click "tweaks"
3.now it should bring you to a screen with 6 slider bars if you will and in the bottom it says presets.
4.click presets and then select very light.
5.(optional) if you want this to stay between reboots click "boot settings" at the bottom and then select "re-apply memory limits" and select "on boot completed. (I think this is only in pro, someone with free report back )
6. Enjoy a slightly less aggressive task manager.
Note: this will not completely fix the issue but it does help a bit. In the task manager app that comes on our phone my phones free memory would never dip below 110mb give or take and now it will go down as far as 65mb(from what I've seen) before it starts to close things. So don't flame if it doesn't completely fix the issue because this isn't going to do it, but its a start haha

Try the Holo Launcher 4 posted here on XDA. It uses less memory than Rosie and can multitask better. Doesn't completely fix it though. That's going to take AOSP.

Or you could use System Tuner
SetCPU is the general go-to app for its straightforward appearance. The voltage tab sometimes does not appear even for a custom kernel with voltage tables; compatibility issues the app maker needs to correct.
Try System Tuner for an interface with a lot of other useful options and info with graphics.
Incredicontrol offers an interface similar in layout to SetCPU, and can toggle the Force Fast/AC Charge option for kernels with that have it. However, its voltage tables have had gray text on a white background for some users lately, making it a minor nuisance to read. Got the problem on my setup.

Personally do -75mV across the board typically, pushing -82.5mV testing. -50mV should be reasonable for less accomadating cores.
All depends on your own CPU quality. Don't set tables on boot or by script unless they prove stable first. Or, just redo again each boot manually to be safest.

Funky kernel doesn't have adjustable voltage settings. It has a fixed -50mV undervolt. Not sure on dsb's kernel.

[APP] Fast Dormancy Toggle

Since I posted my fast dormancy hack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018894) I've noticed two things:
Many people report better battery life
Some people have trouble applying it
So, I spent 20 minutes putting together an app that toggles this setting. It achieves the same thing as mentioned in the referenced thread, but should not require root (can't test that as I'm rooted). It's virtually untested, so please report issues.
Instructions:
* Install & launch
* Status: line shows current status
* Use buttons to enable/disable
* Reboot after changing setting
I hope this will help someone.
Source: https://github.com/jonasl/LGOG_FD_Toggle
I know I should Google it but...when does fast dormancy effect the phone? I am on a fringe LTE/4g area. If I am on the road its LTE most of the time. Does it effect everyone with the device?
Sent from my EVO using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
This FD setting only affects you when you're on HSPA networks. It doesn't affect when your phone will be on a specific network or anything like that. It doesn't change any radio setting, all it does it disable a periodic wakeup which can drain the battery.
It will not help everyone equally. The only way to know is to test with your conditions. If it doesn't help you, revert (enable) and move along.
You rock. I'll report after some testing to see how it works.
Thanks for making this foolproof.

The hack is DISABLE Fast Dormancy. So why would you Enable it? xD Just sayin.

Need kernel help with Infection 2.9.1

I'm on Infection 2.9.1 and I also flashed the latest Hiro kernel. I downloaded Trickster MOD to change settings. I'm getting a lot of reboots but I'm also trying to save as much battery as possible. I have no idea what settings to mess with and what to change them too. My phone settings had a Performance settings where you can change CPU settings and I also have Trickster like I said, just don't know which to use. I think both are on which might be causing problems? I posted some screenshots, could some please help me get something going? - Thanks guys!

OK I got that part but what settings should I use? I'm not good with kernels and these apps, changing voltages, etc. My phone has been overheating and boot looping a lot. I also want to get best battery life possible. I just don't know what settings to use. Also if I'm using trickster to tweak my CPU shouldn't the performance in my phone settings be shut off? There is an option in kernel tuner for it. Some kernels do not support changing that setting though.
Now that he released it, this is what I used on infection the past week when 2.9.1 came out. It works amazingly. On install it gives you options for sleep 2 wake and screen off frequency (I set mine to on and 384 with no adverse issues)

So this kernel will replace Hiro which I'm using now?
And you keep saying to change sleep freq to 384? I'm guessing that will fix my wake issues. What about fixing my battery life and boot loops?
Sent from my Infected Rezound using Tapatalk 2
Can anyone else chime in? This is what I'm trying to accomplish.
1. Fix boot loops
2. Stop the over heating
3. Make battery last as long as possible
4. Fix the wake up issues. When I press power button to wake phone the capacitive buttons turn on but the screen doesn't.
These are the issues that I'm trying to fix. Like I said I'm currently on infection 2.9.1 using lastest hiro kernel. I need some helping finding the right kernel to use and what settings to use with kernel tuner or trickster mod app doesn't matter.

That kernel will replace hiro. You can set screen off freq upon flashing in recovery. The below pictures is my current settings for the past week and only had one freeze (it was testing something out for the kernel before released). In the picture, screen off and idle freq are disabled as you change settings when flashing the kernel. (During install, aroma will ask if you want to do default or custom install, custom for more options.) Pictures are in thumb format so less space is used in the forum. You can change second core to something else. Lionheart is a performance based governor. I use it on second core with mpdecision having a longer wait to turn on core 1 for my personal optimal battery saving/performance. Core 0 is set for power save bias so only when I need speed, core 1 will kick on with some higher MHz while CPU 0 catches up a little later.
Battery savings isn't too great, but unless you are doing some CPU intensive stuff, it does pretty well on battery.
This is CPU times today... Mind you, I used my phone for a total of 4hrs from 530-1640. The reason it stayed at 192 a lot was because I just did texting, web browsing and some other low CPU intensive tasks so far today (about 20-30mins of awake time in 192 was screen off streaming a local radio station.) Ran buttery smooth though.
