Hey. I'm using CM10 right now. Is it any chances to get Webtop alternative to work with HDMI on this ROM ? Linuxonandroid Project maybe ? Someone tried to do something with this ?
hello. I was thinking about the same. In my opinion, the webtop is a nice to have feature, but it is too static(no updates/fixes/security). Actually the webtop partition can be mounted. If you install ubuntu or other linuxes (frm play store) there you´d have a decent setup. It´s just in developement.
But why do you need a webtop? Nowadays Android Os´S have quite the same functionality. . . Just HDMI it on your TV screen and enjoy, or better get the HD Dock, its really cheap now, supports USB host and charges the device. I use it to work and play on my TV.
I have HD Media Dock, and I saw video from blurred roms. It's look awesome. For now, I have Jelly Bean, and everything I can do with HDMI and HD Dock is mirroring. I want more, like Ubuntu or smth.
thanx
that's really good with jokersax also

What about the remote control, is it usable on CM10? Or is it useless outside the Motorola Entertainment Center?
And the HDMI output resolution, does it output at 1080p or only at the screen resolution (960p)?
I have the HD multimedia dock and just upgraded to ta1bot's CM 10.1. The docks' remote does work(!) but my biggest problem is, no audio coming out of HDMI
go to settings>device settings>hdmi audio

There is no webtop source there that I've been able to find. There are only a few packages that are a part of Webtop that were open source anyway, like firefox and such. Even the title clearly states: "Motorola is pleased to provide the open source software used in the WEBTOP application". NOT the entire Webtop.
Webtop itself is made up of a heavily modified Ubuntu installation coupled with Motorola proprietary packages and services. It is highly unlikely they will ever release the whole thing.

Currently, I am using a program called wireless keyboard. It lets me use my Computer Keyboard to type on my Android wirelessly. Pretty awesome. But I would like to know if there is a program that lets me use my Computer mouse to control android. Thanks.
BlueInput is supposed to have this functionality, though I haven't tried it (nor do I have an BT kb/mice).
-bZj
Might be a viable option, although pricey. I'm just worried that the BlueInput bt driver will not be/is not compatible with the 3.0 spec chips in our phones. Any word on this?
It's the exact opposite of your request, but I thought others may come here thinking this is what you meant. This app lets your phone turn into a wireless KB or mouse.

Curious, why would you want to do this man? Seems VERY un-user friendly.
My guess is that he wants it to get some games/apps working that don't support or don't work well with touch only input, ala Quake 3, Quake 2, etc.

Bingo! I actually have the keyboard working, I just need a program to let me navigate the Phone with my desktop mouse.
Don't know of anything yet really. But I think all that's going to integrated into CM6. I was watching some youtube video of the bluetooth mouse input, seems to work pretty well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWSWCqJfRaE
I don't think the mouse would be usable outside games/ possibly at all, until they find some way to at least render a onscreen pointer lol. Might be thinking backwards though.

yeah, other than for gaming purposes, I don't see a reason to use a mouse on our phones. Hopefully this will make it to CM's build.
So, I was thinking that we should have a thread for WebTop screenshots. I realize that there is a thread for Atrix screenshots but I think there is room for a separate thread specific to WebTop.
It seems to me that the WebTop is different enough that it warrants this thread. If this is a bad assumption, mods feel free to remove the thread.
I will start with a couple from my device:

I haven't tried vlc and I don't have sound working on the Debian side yet. Sound works fine in the native WebTop apps though. I am getting some dbus errors during Gnome startup. It seems to be related to the original 2GB Debian image I used first. I am not using the 4GB image.
I plan to start from scratch but I haven't had the time to do that yet. I am fairly certain that resetting the phone and redoing the hack will get rid of the errors.
Everything seems to work otherwise though. Also, the bluetooth has added functionality when running Debian. I can pair a Microsoft bluetooth mouse that will not pair with the WebTop bluetooth stack.
This is basically the standard webtop after adding lxterminal and a few other packages via the dpkg command. The screen shot was done with gnome-screenshot which seems to be pre-included in Moto's webtop implementation.
I tried the 'full ubuntu' install, but decided it took just way too much space for what I actually need. So, after wiping the phone and reinstalling sbfs I went about putting on just what I use for work and play.
Looks great. Now we just need a larger partition so we can install more stuff!
For now, I am still using the Debian hack. It would be better to just crack the motobuntu wide open though.
I know its not quite as impressive as the modded webtop, but I prefer using the stock webtop because it runs faster than off the SD card, and its easier to hack this one to get some usability from it,than to install a whole new system like GenTop

So at MWC Mozilla is going to be announcing the Boot 2 Gecko OS they are building. Its bare bones, and will probably never amass to Android or anything but looks fun to mess around with. Everything is built using html and css, so anyone with basic knowledge will be able to build, customize and create stuff for this OS.
It looks like this is built off of a WVGA Galaxy S2 in the GIT so should be easy to get a proof of concept going for EVO3D.
There is more information on Engadget today about it. http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/mozilla-offers-gaia-ui-first-look-will-reveal-boot-to-gecko-par/
And more info at Cnet. http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-5...-allies-for-its-challenge-to-android-and-ios/
Here is the GIT - https://github.com/andreasgal/B2G
"But B2G has a couple things going for it. First, it's a browser-based operating system, meaning that Web apps become its native apps. With legions of Web programmers already at work and increasingly attuned to mobile browsing, B2G isn't starting from scratch.
The current implementation of the Gaia environment is still simplistic and incomplete, but it offers a compelling demonstration of how conventional Web content can be used to create a smartphone user experience. It's possible to do anything in the B2G user interface that can be done with HTML and CSS, so the possibilities for styling and theming are prodigiously extensive. Such intrinsic flexibility could help make B2G appealing to hardware vendors because it would make it easier for them to create custom user interfaces that differentiate their products.
Mozilla hasn't created an HTML-based widget toolkit for application development. The applications currently included in Gaia are just straight markup with CSS for design. It's theoretically possible to use existing HTML widget toolkits in B2G, however, such as jQuery Mobile and Sencha Touch. "
Here are some screen shots. And I guess you can probably assume the MAC OS Firefox framework at the top is just in the pictures as an emulator, so try to imagine that is not there.

If if your just asking why? Just because we (you) can! This could be a fun hobbyist OS, or could even see widespread use on low cost or dumbphones or a replacement for BREW
And here is the source code GIT again - https://github.com/andreasgal/B2G
Maybe this should be moved to Development?
I was wondering if this would work with the "official" device tree from cyanogenmod,
ill trie it and if i run into errors, ill post them here.
but first i have to download the full source and the device specific files.
ill hit this post when it's done!

Some of you may have heard of tablet mode and if you have tried it you know well that it smashes your phone. Apps are small, their layout is screwed, things overlap, crash or stop working, Google Play forbids you to download, if you tried AOKP you cant even use launcher and phone. In short, it is a mess.
PARANOIDANDROID changed that. It does not "heal" tablet mode, it obliterates the boundaries. You define how big or small apps are, you define in which UI they display, no matter if your phone runs in tablet or phone mode, which also you can define. Customize every single entity on your phone, lockscreen, navigationbar, system-components, widgets, apps. If you prefer stay with your three bearpaw buttons + drop-down curtain or switch to a combined navigationbar + drop-up notificationcenter, enjoy Youtube in 3D, Gmail and settings in 2-columns, Chrome in its better mobile UI, etc. Nothing overlaps, nothing crashes, everything works as you'd expect. This is completely new ground and has never been realized before, it is lightyears from tablet mode.
We created it to establish the idea that tablet/hybrid mode can indeed work and that is was an error on Googles side to use the same layout for high resolution devices that is used on tiny little things like htc wildfire. We saw how badly build.prop tablet-mode was milked so we decided to remain closedsource until the codebase is mature enough to publish. Our first repos went public last week and the rest will follow soon, i will personally commit the hybrid sourcetree into CM9. Until then, do not ask us for sources, we have good reason to do it like this and when it's out people will know why, they will see something that works, not features for show. We are still fully open to ports. As long as they stay true to our vision and base on CM9.
As the sheer amount of porting requests needed to be addressed somehow we open this topic so maintainers can help each other and it'll be easy for us to take a look once in awhile as our pm-boxes are exploding. We understand that setting up PA can be quite confusing since it introduces must-have configurations that are unique.

Eh, I've spoken with the developer about this in length in the past. I don't see him going back to support 2.3 and below honestly. He has his work cut out for him with network support as it is and he's really not a fan of older versions of Android from what I can tell.
He did release source code for the app when it supported 2.3 and below and there was a compiled version/ongoing project but it may be discontinued. Here is the website (roughly translates to error establishing connection?) and here is an apk link. It pales in comparison to mizuu but it provides similar functionality.
With all that said, good luck in your venture.
Yes but if a bunch of people support the suggestion then he might consider it. It is why the suggestions section is there open to everyone, we'll see how it goes but we need to keep pushing .

Cannot access that option any longer
I just went to that site and they have 'greyed out' the option of CM7 support.....
I was able to vote it up earlier but it seems he has disabled it unfortunately, with this comment
Hey!
Sorry, but that’s not going to happen. For a number of reasons, I’m not planning on supporting anything other than Android 3.0+. The low RAM issue is the most prominent one, and that’s also what’s making ICS and Jelly Bean run slower on your device. Devices with Android 2.x or older generally have limited RAM memory, and that’s just not suited for Mizuu.

Sorry Veronica
There is another app, MovieBrowser that has similar functionality and I know the developer of Mizuu talks to its developer from time to time (I think MovieBrowser has network support actually). Its not exactly the same as Mizuu (and I prefer Mizuu honestly) but it is also 3.0+ only. Perhaps you can nudge that developer?
