Ainol nova 7 Venus firmware required - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm stuck in a bootloop already, with no recovery image. The Venus doesn't seem to have a lot of support yet despite the attractive name. If anyone can help me out with a link to a firmware update, the kind that goes on a micro sd and gets flashed with vol+ and power, then many thanks.

I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkOVvRJ_gj8&feature=youtube_gdata_player. There's a link to download tools and firmware but I'm still stuck. My laptop is not seeing the tablet at all when connected. The language was kinda beyond me in the video too.

Yes, they are. For me, at least.

PS. You can get Firmware for the Ainol Nova Venus tablet on Ainols site:
http://www.ainol.com/plugin.php?identifier=ainol&module=download
If you can't read chinese view the site in Google translate:
http://translate.google.com/transla...m/plugin.php?identifier=ainol&module=download
To download you could have to switch back to chinese. Currently, Version 20130131 V1 (direct link to *.rar) is the most recent firmware.
rgds,
UPDATE:
The most recent Firmware seemst to be 20130203 which can be found in this post:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/52722-actions-atm7029-rom-0203-for-venus-hero-2/
I have no idea, why this one can't be found on the Ainol site, but posters report that the tablet should run much smoother after an upgrade to that FW.
UPDATE2:
I finally upgraded my Ainol Novo 7 Venus to 0203. Its a lot snappier now, really good, was worth the fiddling.
One helpful point: its a bit difficult to get into flash mode as you don't have any feedback when you're in flash mode, just a black screen. Easiest way to get into flash mode is to reboot the device. Then during the reboot shut down proces just hold Volume +, nothing more, and hold it for 5 seconds after the reboot shut down. The screen stays black. If you see the Ainol Logo, you're not in flash mode and have to retry the procedure! Then connect your black screened device to the PC and it will detect the device.

thx for the info on updating the firmware. Makes it really snappy and quick. Must do. :good:

#EDIT, sorted now looking good too

Failure...failure... success updating Novo 7 Venus Firmware
I've owned my Ainol Novo 7 Venus tablet for about 6 weeks now. This tablet looks marvelous but performance was borderline acceptable.
I'm a noob here and a noob to the Android universe. I had read that a firmware update has lead to better performance but the down side of such a task is that you might end up with a dead tablet, a brick if things go wrong!!
A couple days ago my tablet's performance was extra crappy and during a moment of insanity I decided to try a firmware update (I was going to do an update eventually but was waiting on someone to do s step-by-step video). Like I said I'm a noob to table flashing.
After a few failed attempts I was eventually successful. I did piece together a video that might be of use to other noobs who are also hesitant in performing a firmware update. Since this was a spur of the moment decision the video is not my best work but should provide a few tips to those wanting to perform this upgrade.
Since I'm new here it won't allow me to post an outside link so... let's see. Go to youtube and maybe search for these key words:
cpuken ainol novo 7 venus firmware... that should do it. If an old-timer here wants to post the link I think that might be helpful.
I realize many of the members here are much more advanced then myself but there are probably a few other noobs that this might benefit.
The result of the firmware update is now my tablet not only looks good but performs good.:good:
I hope this helps someone else who might be on the fence or who had questions regarding the upgrade procedure.

cwmr and twrp
Anyone tried porting the CWMR or TWRP it seems this tablet has no active developers I have the stock recovery anyone interested in converting it to CWMR and TWRP thanks in advance

^Hi tag team mate! Ugh still stuck sa unpacking and repacking rec.img

I'm actually interested in giving a go at some development for this tablet, even though I'm new. After my exams (which start next week) I will see if I can so something. CM10 on the Venus would be nice.
Also there was some new firmware released the other day, it improves the UI so much. Noticeably much smoother than all the other firmware versions.

I really don't want to upgrade unless we already have a cwmr or twrp backup coz we have a rebranded software here in the Philippines which is the Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt that is why we are still stock at the stock rom. I already have the stock recovery we just need help on how to convert and port it to our device so we can backup the stock rom before we jump into other firmwares.

Well first we'll need to compile a custom recovery, based on the stock one. I checked my Venus and it does seem to have a stock recovery of its own. Using that we could probably compile a custom recovery, though I'm learning how to do that. Apparently you need to learn a lot of technical specifications from the device before you go making your own recovery,

Hey guyz,
can somebody just post screen or video with new firmware update, just some Antutu or stuff like that after updating to 20130203 or at least that 20130131 v1?
Because I'm really thinking about this tablet, but since i saw how terrible optimization it had for games, i was a bit more interested in Crystal II...
Just to see if that performance got fixed for example to make MC3 or Dead Trigger non-laggy.
Thanks all in advance.

I've done two firmware updates on my Novo 7 Venus tablet and it's gotten better after each update. The most recent update I performed was the 2013.03.28 update. Most everything I've read about this update is that it is the one to have for now. With these rapid updates already, it appears that this is becoming a popular 7" tablet choice and Ainol appears to be serious about making it the best it can. I'm sure some tablets are released and get poor sales and are just abandoned by the manufacturer. So these updates are just one indication that maybe that won't be the case with the Novo 7 Venus. I'm not a game player so all I can provide is a benchmark pic below. I've heard that benchmarks don't always tell the complete picture.
I've been trying to stay on top of what's happening to the Novo 7 Venus tablet and have created a web page (or two) to share stuff that I find.
Check out the web site shown on the attached pic. Anytime I find new info on the web, I'm trying to add relevant links to that info on my site.
I've also have created several youtube videos covering multiple Venus related stuff.
Here's a screenshot I took after my most recent firmware update:
Well, it won't let me post an external link (web sites, photos, etc.). Someday I'll be able to do so.
For now, the fastest AnTutu benchmark I've gotten has been: 12573
Since I can't post any links right now, I'll direct you to Youtube and search for these key words (cpuken Novo 7 Venus firmware).
From those videos you can find a link to my web site where I'm also trying to gather as much Novo 7 Venus info, tips, reviews, etc.
I will warn that I've gotten varying results from running the Antutu benchmark. Above is the fastest I've seen on my tablet.

Some games will run better than others. Real Racing 3, which is graphic intensive, runs at a decent frame-rate at around 15-30 fps. Temple Run 2 runs pretty well, though not as great as my Samsung Galaxy S2. Subway Surfers just runs terrible. The tablet is getting there in terms of firmware updates. The UI is much smoother with updates than when I first got it.

[Q] which tablet to keep?

Hi, I have a Galaxy Tablet 10.1 and just purchased another tablet which is a Kobo arc 64GB. I am unsure of which tablet to keep and I am hoping for some advice. The Kobo is 1.5 ghz so it is technically faster and has a newer android OS and I purchased for $139.99, but it is a 7" compared to my 10.1 which I like bigger a little better but not so much as to make my decision. I read that galaxy tab can be rooted and updated but I haven't got into that yet. The galaxy also has better camera and more functions gps, Bluetooth, etc. both are wifi only. I am really unsure which one to keep. I paid 399.99 for my galaxy like 1 1/2 yr ago. Can anyone help make my decision a little easier? I am very torn on which one to keep and so much info on internet about different tablets it makes it hard to find any answers.

Thanks, this is pretty much what I was wondering. I will try it and see how I like. Now just figuring out how to do it lol, well this site seems like a great place to start..kudos
Edit: I managed to root my tablet I think, it's a lot harder process now then it should be trying to find everything to work. I found lots of dead links to places where I could DL the recovery files and Odin and such. I managed after a few tries to get CWM working I am using version 6.0.3.6 right now. First I tried ver 4.0.0.4 and when from a package install from the tutorial on this site but I was getting the scrolling effect in CWM that a lot of people experienced where it keeps scrolling the screen so fast it's barely readable. So then I tried a ver. 5.5.0.4 (I think) apparently one you need to use certain roms, but I had the same effect with this one. So then with the suggestion of another thread on here I downloaded 'bootloader_4.0.4.tar.md5' and the version of CWM I have installed now. It's seems to work alright no more scrolling effect and I have the superuser app, I did a backup without problems, although when I first told it to reboot it came up with the message 'Root access possibly lost, Fix?' I selected yes and apparently it fixed because this message does not come up anymore. So I made it this far. Now the fun begins lol.
I'm on 4.3 Jelly bean cyanogen now lovin it, only prob it just booted like 3 times before actually booted up properly, thought I was stuck in a boot loop for a minute. Worked though. Kobo is as good as sold.

[Q] What's the best current ROM/Configuration for our tab?

Hi there, our tablet is becoming old. Currently I had installed the Nameless ROM and I love it, but the tablet is still a little laggy and more than a little when you open a few apps... Do you think that the ROMs based on Honeycomb could run smoother in our devices?
I tried to set up an 1GB swap partition but really don't feel any difference...
So, I think it could be a good idea to post if you wise guys know any tweaks or configurations to make our tablets more efficient devices
Thanks in advance

Hello !
In january 2014 I loved the port made by SGT7, JB 4.3.1/Cyano10.2, very smooth, no laggy but JB...:cyclops:
In july 2014 I decided to try Nameless, the only that release every night an updated rom, and keep alive everyday tab 10.1 with KK444... but in my own, too laggy also overclocked and youtube problems...
In september 2014 I tried OMNI Homemade by AAccount and... damn! I really loved it, smooth, human battery drain, no youtube problems, for now I keep the 20/09 3G release with installed stock browser.apk from Nameless...
Honeycomb rom don't run smooter and too outdated...
Thank you frank! I'll try the omni homemade one and I'll tell you [emoji6]
Please post questions in the Q & A section. You can post in my Q&A, Root, Stock rom thread or start a new thread for yoir question.
This keeps our development areas clean.

How did it go? I had the same experience with Nameless. Nice ROM, but laggy. I'm sure the older hardware is the issue.
Have you found any tweaks to help?
It was really nice and fast. But I'd sold it and change it for an iPad Air 2 [emoji5]️

My condolences! I had an iPod and they get outdated so quick and the apps no longer work because they don't support older OSes. That's the great thing about XDA. The apps last longer and you can usually root your device and upgrade it if need be to keep up more than with an iOS device.
Thanks for the update!
iPad Air 2 was announced two weeks ago. It will far outlast the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

I very seriously doubt that.
yuck. Not having luck.
Just went with CM11 all seems good except msps 9.1.2. Using maps 8.1.2 with no issue though.
I had the nameless rom installed as well. Yesterday i installed lollipop and it actually seems to be running a little quicker!

Huawei T1 8 Pro - A way to confuse people and put my 2 cents

US..ONLY..So after an extensive research ...I bought the biggest Smartphone I can get...An 8 inch screen phone with a good battery life. For starters, here is what I found out...
Huawei has several models that are very confusing and even their customer service were not that much informative. models I have encountered are the following:
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 823 L - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage (Limited Bands for LTE but 4G speeds were fast enough for my use, got it from ebay)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 L - 1 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB Storage options (More bands for LTE but 1 GB of RAM only)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 W - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option (I think the W stands for WIFI...this I cannot confirm)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Mediapad - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage from gethuawei website...out of stock as of this writing)
Huawei T1 8 Mediapad - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage
This one has 4.4 for Android OS...I do not know if http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...ot-huawei-mediapad-t1-8-0-pro-lte-t1-t3262608
has found a way to upgrade to Lollipop and remove bloatwares.
personally, the hardware is decent and battery life is great. I used it for 1 day and end fo the day still had 50% of battery life. I do need to have big pants though. Is there anyone trying to develop an updated OS for this system?

Too Bad, this is a good device and the battery life is good for a phone with an 8 inch screen. It is also good for those who have problems with vision and not wanting to be bringing 2 devices for travels.
I may have to learn programming to see if I can update this...
I have the MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro and it has the best radio/modem for T-Mobile coverage. It even covers their HSPDA+ 750 MhZ band which only a few phones cover; this is the band that T-Mobile calls the "building buster" for its ability to penetrate most buildings. So yeah for all that.. I'm now waiting for an 8-inch phablet that's octo-core and features Lollipop or Marshmallow. So far I have been unable to find one..
So which one of the above did you get? 823L, 821L, or the one from Gethuawei website?...i m like you impressed with the build but needs a pure Android OS to maximize it's potential.
A have the pro8 t1-821L its rootable and bloatware can be removed this way I have also unlocked the bootloader but there is no custom recovery or ROM which is a damn shame because it's nice bit of kit a can watch movies all night long on it and still not need to charge it also am not locked to EE either so if any devs r reading this post please help this phablet out? cheers

I would have wanted the 821L also but there were no 2GB available anywhere. Only 1 GB. But even with my 823L and connecting at 4G, the speed is negligible in our area which is Central Florida. I get to watch Netflix, and Youtube also with not much lag. And I do not have to squint from a small screen. Agree, also that if anyone can build a custom ROM that's plain Android Lolllipop would be nice.

Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro GSM Unlocked 4G LTE US
Yes I do agree with everyone here. It is a very great device and a lot of bang for your buck plus more. The great thing about it is that you can basically make it however you want it. I manually updated mine to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Which took some time because Huawei is a very new brand and I had to get used to there EmotionUI. Which didn't take long because its Android too. Just without the app drawer. So its kind of ahead because Android N is going that direction from what I hear. Also after rooting and installing BusyBox I tried to install xPosed. But the Huawei device wouldn't take it because they already have there own framework. So I started to tinker more with it and found out that yes indeed they have framework already. That's why it reads a message error when trying to install xPosed and it says something about xPosed not being compatible. I believe it has something to do with their EmotionUI. Not sure though because that's my first Huawei experience. The device is really solid though. Resolution can be tweaked and the display looks so gorgeous then. Values for everything can be tweaked to make the OS run liquid smooth and fast with very little noticeable lag or hiccups. Also the volume values can change as well giving it a more premium sound. Camera resolution was turned up along with high quality pictures. So the pics stayed sharp looking. Also when some values are entered it gives the gaming experience so much more life through the CPU and the GPU. Rendering gets way better too. Also changing the data values gives it more LTE speed too. Along with other values that make the browser loading times instantly. Even when being on the mobile data network seems like you would be connected to WiFi. It saves a lot of data too. And the battery is amazing. I'm trying to remember what other tweaks worked perfect for it and it ran with no problems. Oh yes it can multi task with up to four things going on. I got the app where you can, watch YouTube and Google something. And watch something on eBay all in different windows at the same time. It got warm but handles it very well. You should overclock it and have the battery set on smart mode. Oh yes and change the font. I had Disney font on it and went to a more modern font look. I'll let y'all know what else I did if I can think of anymore things. Just reply I will come back to this forum. It is my most favorite device of all at the moment. And Huawei is so new too.

Can we use a T1 10 Pro Rom for this device? Any of our XDA programmers chime in...?
So I just bought a Huawei ascend mate 7... finished using the tablet phone as I am almost done with my school... It was a nice piece of hardware and convenient in not having to bring two devices... Project tango k1 tegra

I got a Project Tango tablet from work, it has k1 tegra chipset and it is stuck on original firmware, which is android 4.4.4 and doesnt performs very well on normal tasks as far as it is very powerfull hardware. Any chance I can upgrade it with custom firmware? Maybe shield tablet which has similar hardware without the special sensors?
Last time I had the tango (back in July 2016) there were no custom firmware/rom for it. I would check out the Tango Devs group on G+ to see if anyone has created an update for it.
Any news about this? Any help would be much appreciated.

First off you are going to need root the device. Then a custom recovery. Then you can think of customs ROMS if you can work out the hardware and the appropriate drivers.
Just because it has the same processor as the Shield does not mean that all the other hardware is the same.

Thanks, the process is crystal clear, I just wanted to know if anybody already advanced anything in this device, but it feels as there is no progress at all, so It will be worth to sell this nearly new tablet and buy another device with more community working with it. A shame, with 128Gb emmc, 4Gb RAM and a powerfull processor...
It would be great if we could get any assistance from Google on this, I highly am doubtful they will release kernels but it is worth trying to petition them to release them, or anything of value towards this, to the community. The hardware is excellent on the tango Dev tablet, but at this point the software is absimal, and, as is, barely functions. I find most software cannot run and constant glitches make using it worse than a contemporary generic device despite an excellent touchscreen and the tegra processor.
I have rooted my Tango tablet, but what hopes do we have of a community rom running any newer version of Android? (5.1+) The shield tablet has similar hardware and could maybe be used as a base to develop from, as the basic kernel will be similar. anyone determine what wifi/Bluetooth hardware is on board the tango?
Come on Google, help us get full functionality and release the kernels!
Is there any one behind this project?

if you want the development of the kernel at least started, make the kernel start logs. use the program syslog from Google Play for example.
I completely forgot that I found and downloaded the source code of the kernel on this tablet. The kernel is there version 3.10.24. With a strong desire, it could easily be adapted to the modern kernel 3.10.96.
I have the possibility of getting this tablet sub $100 and would be extremely interested if a newer Android could be loaded here. Or even maybe something like UBports (formerly Ubuntu Touch)

I can't find this source anywhere, could you upload a copy? I know a few people, myself included are looking for it. Someone else who is looking https://plus.google.com/u/1/+GregWillardr3pwn/posts/V1K5XDBtKig

They have been with me for so long that I don’t remember exactly where I downloaded them from. I remember that it was some kind of official site about the project of tango.

So you don't know exactly if these were the most recent version of the source?
If these are not the latest, it's better than nothing. I'm going to share these with that other guy and on reddit. Thank you for uploading these.
For anyone following this, the latest kernel appears to be here https://github.com/r3pwn/android_kernel_google_yellowstone
Hi guys, orginal Android 4.4 is still the latest Rom available, correct ?
HI.. I need the ROM stock for this device, Someone?
Hi again.. I found this on github, someone know something about this project?
NVIDIA AOSP device tree for building Project Tango Android 7.0
https://github.com/Project-Google-Tango/android_device_google_yellowstone
Anonikat I looked at that too. How great would that be? A 7.0 N even if I'd loose some Tango functionality. I'd just like it as a regular tablet, personally.

Closest I've seen so far that seems functional for the most part is LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) that's listed as an unofficial release in this forum.
Here is TWRP recovery project for this device https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...overy-project-tango-k1-atap-twrp-3-2-t3901519

Do custom ROMs improve performance?

Years ago I rooted a phone I had to the latest Android, only to find that the hardware wasn't up to running a more complicated OS, even the Cyanogen version that was equivalent to the original Android version didn't exactly breath much life into the old dog.
Given how shockingly poor the experience on my T820 can be on the stock ROM, I find myself once again tempted to give a custom one a go, but was wondering if the newer ROMs place significant additional load on the hardware? Is it worth the effort? Does it make them responsive?
I don't use the tablet for anything heavy-duty; mainly what I want is responsive browsing, Skype and some basic apps...

@imacleod,
Based on the views and comments I see for custom ROMs for your tablet, this ROM:
[ROM] SM-T820 TWEAKED....................[rom] sm-t820 tweaked
SM-T820 TWEAKED 5.1 ***** PIE ***** 20JUN2020 T820_CTD5_TWEAKED_5.1_DB4_by_rorymc928.zip Based on latest stock CTD5 firmware Tweaked, stable, zip aligned. SU/D Forced encryption disabled Deknoxed Debloated (GPU driver updated to latest...

appears to be the best choice for improving your tablet's performance. If you are serious about installing it, check out the most recent posts in the thread. You will find a very useful post that goes into great details about how to install the ROM properly.
I feel you regarding sluggish performance on a stock Samsung tablet. I had a Samsung tablet a long time ago and it felt like watching paint dry when I tried to simply play a video. Also, what is it with the HUGE bezel size on Samsung tablets ? I recently bought a Lenovo Tablet and it has a very thin bezel.
In any event, good luck with your tablet !!
Thanks. I was hoping for some feedback from people that had applied a ROM to the S3, whether they found it transformational - or perhaps not - and whether the best idea is to go for the latest and greatest, or stick at the lowest level that's got general support.
I'm not one who's installed a custom firmware, but I see you've not got much response. This device was very expensive at launch, so was a hard reach for many people. Fewer people means fewer developers.
The custom firmware available for this device is quite sparse. In addition, there seems to be troubles getting all of the hardware to work correctly. They're not placing any load on the device as its the same kernel version as stock.
That being said, I do believe the S3 is past its support period, so will not be getting new firmware from Samsung.
Reading the fora for the custom firmware show that the device can be more responsive than stock (as long as you don't need the hardware that isn't working).
Additionally, rooting and debloating the stock firmware has shown increased performance for those who have done it (including myself). I'd recommend this route prior to attempting a custom firmware unless your primary goal is to ditch samsung and google.

Thanks for the reply. I did actually take the plunge through the week and installed rorymc928's rom. So far, I'd say that it's more usable than stock - e.g. it's not so slow that entering a PIN after a restart hits the screen lockout out before I'm done - but not overly stunning when browsing (perhaps my expectations are too high). It has made me a lot less inclined to reach for a hammer/put it on eBay, and it may be the best balance between what's available and losing functions/features. If I feel brave I may try a more advanced tinker at some later point in time...
If you want to get an idea what Samsung thought was important for this tablet, watch some HDR content from youtube. Gorgeous!
But... Not really useful. Android tablets are a teeny niche, but someone should be able to produce something for the market!
