Hello everyone,
I had my phone running CM9 running on my GS2 for a few months. Today I decided that I'd do a factory reset and reinstall the rom since I had a few small issues with the email and such. So I booted into recovery mode and wiped everything. Installed CM9. Then I decided to also try installing Siyah Kernel. So I also installed that via CWM and then I got a "Install successful" screen so I rebooted. But then my phone wouldn't boot. I tried booting into recovery and download modes also, but all that happens is the buttons on the bottom light up, the Galaxy S II splash screen shows up, and then the phone shuts off. When I plug it into my computer I get the battery with loading circle, then the green charging battery, and then it shuts off. Then if I turn it on again it just shows the GS2 splash screen and then shuts off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is possible, but from what I remember from when it worked, when the battery was dead it wouldn't have green except up to the point to which it was charger. And I don't recall it being low when I started this whole fiasco. I think it was at ~80%.
I would make sure the phone is off then charge it for about an hour. If it doesn't come on then we can look at other steps.

Okay. I charged it for an hour and the only difference is that now the battery is completely green when I first boot it after I plug it into the wall charger. I have had battery problems with this phone before, but this is unlike what I saw before in that the screen doesn't flicker right before it shuts down and I still believe that it is something I did when I installed the new Kernel. What do you suggest now?
Go to recovery and flash another kernel or download the same again...
Or flash your very same ROM over it.
What version did you flashed?
Look its not bricked, just check your files.

Thats my problem. It won't boot into recovery. It doesn't matter if I just press the power button or the power button and volume up or the power button and volume down. It just shows "Samsung Galaxy SII" and then goes black.
Okay. I was finally able to boot into recovery mode. Thanks everybody. I should be able to take it from here.

Hi guys,
three days ago I installed Darkyrom HD on my mates Galaxy S2, everything went smooth. But 10 minutes ago he called and said that the phone woudn't turn on!
He says he can't get response out of it. No recovery or hard reset with nor without battery in.
Don't hope it's perma bricked and it seems weird that it suddenly wont turn on.
Any ideas/help?
Thanks a lot.
At the same time press volume up + home button + power on to enter CWM.
Is his battery charged?

Does it get a response if holding down the power button for 8-10 sec? This will essentially reboot the phone regardless of what state it is in. If your buddy's been hit with the "sleep of death", this will boot the phone. Though I think this is a low probability if he tried pulling battery and putting it back.
Does it get a response if plugging it into the AC adapter? On the off chance the battery is completely dead. I'd like to think he tried this, though.
Has he tried another battery? Could be the battery lost the ability to hold a charge. Not common, but not unheard of either.
Doesn't seem to help. But I've told to let it charge the night and try again.
Any particular this happens? Seems random that it suddenly wont turn on.

Any particular reason? Sure. Most often, because the user installs something or flashes something they are not supposed to, to their phone. Or dropped it in water.

I wasn't trying to say YOU installed or flashed something. Maybe he did. Can I assume the phone was working when you gave it back to him? And that it was working fine for the three days after? Or was the phone in YOUR possession until he called you today?
I haven't had phone since i installed it. But I honestly don't think i he flashed anything.
He went out to jog - phone worked (listening to music)
He came home and placed the phone on the table - Phone worked
He did some exercises and when he came back - phone all black, can't get any response

You said he tried a battery pull? And no response after replacing battery?
Sure his battery is just not dead, bit odd if it had been working and suddenly this happens.
Most cases an app or something can cause the phone to restart, or freezes, usually a hard reset solves this by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
Or entering recovery mode, or download mode just to ensure they are working.
Make sure he can charge the battery.
If all fails you may need to try a jig.

If not you will need to reflash to stock rom as warranty void with root or custom rom ..

It wasn't the battery. But we've found someone that can repair it for 25 pounds + shipping. So if the USB jig doesn't work, it's going to them!
I feel like an idiot..... installed the wrong ROM on my Galaxy S2-UK
I installed CheckROM V5 and found out it was actually for the Galaxy Note before it was too late, it installed fine from holding power button, home button and volume up, then going to install Zip from folder and rebooted. When it rebooted my Galaxy S2 logo came up and then the screens pixels all turn white one by one. I tried to do the power button, home button and volume button to go in and uninstall it and the same thing happens, white screen,
I can't even get odin to recognise the device is plugged into my laptop.
Have I ruined my Galaxy S2? is it fixable?

You can't go to download mode? (which is vol-down, home, and power; you didn't specify which volume button you tried)
You should probably invest a couple bucks into a USB jig to see if that can get you into download mode if not.
Yes I tried to go into download mode and it just goes all white bit by bit. Is a Jig my only option ?

Maybe...
So even if it goes all white, I wonder if you can still actually enter download mode. After the phone boots when doing vol-down + home + power, while it is going all white, try hitting vol-up and plugging the phone into your USB cable on your computer. If Odin goes yellow in the ID:COM block, you should be good to go to try flashing back to stock.
If that doesn't work, try a jig.
Cool, I will try that thanks, the battery is dead so I will try it later, another point to add, i just plugged it in to charge it there and the icon for the battery came on, the screen refreshed itself and all the pixels slowly started turning white and black on the screen.

Flashing the Note ROM may have replaced the video drivers. I'm just guessing though. Get a stock firmware from Intratech's official firmware thread and have a go at flashing it back.
Things have taken an interesting turn, went to a shop in town today who were convinced they could fix it for me for €20 and I have been informed that my battery is damaged as they couldn't even hook it up to a universal charger,I did find a bulge on the back of it. i'm sure this explains nothing but I'm going to get a new one tomorrow and try everything you have said, thanks for your help and i'll post here again.

Actually my battery is down. I can go to download mode but it says Low Batter cannot download.
As soon as I connect batter it starts showing white screen and then it switches off because of low battery.
How can I charge my battery and put phone into download mode.?

Battery gone after installing CheckRom for Note. I bought new battery , went into downlode mode and installed stock rom.
But Why CheckRom Note is not checking if the device is actually Note or not? is it so difficult to implement.
You're kidding right ? You actually expect devs to put "safeguards" in their roms/kernels in case idiots flash firmware for a completely different phone onto their own ?
That really does speak volumes

I agree. Flashing your phone is serious business. You wouldn't just download any old random operating system and install it on your computer without making sure it was intended to go on your computer first, would you? Why would you essentially do the same thing on your phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385283
The RAZR guys came up with a handy feature called CWM on boot, it basically allows ur phone to boot into CWM every time it boots up. Why would you want to do that? Lets say you flash something to your phone and it results in a bootloop, upon the reboot it would go right into CWM where you could simply restore your nandroid until you can figure out the cause of the problem. You dont need to leave it active at all times though, you can activate it when you're getting ready to flash something and then deactivate it once you confirm what you flashed is fine.
Think it would be possible to do this on the GS3 and if so how many of you would be interested in such a feature?
via Galaxy S III
Nobody wants CWM on boot?
I suppose it could be somewhat useful, but if one gets into a reboot loop, one could just force a shutdown, or pull the battery worst case scenario, the boot with the home and volume up buttons pressed to go into recovery. One less thing to set before and after flashing that way, and nothing new or additional to do.

I hear you...but with CWM on boot it would automatically go into CWM in the event of a bootloop.

Nope. Pull battery and then boot phone by holding volume down(it is either volume up or down. I think up is download mode. New to samsung so i dont have it all memorized yet) while holding the home button and power. Boots right into recovery.

Actually this is not such a great thing.
Just this morning I realized that my other phone (evo shift 4g) was not fully plugged in overnight and did not charge. In fact the battery drained completely.
Here lies the problem: when I plugged in the charger cable it booted into recovery mode and this would not allow the battery to charge. I couldn't shut the phone off because as soon as charge was applied through cable it would boot into recovery.
I don't know if this is device specific or not, but if it weren't for someone else at work with same battery, I would have had to purge my boot partition just to charge, and hopefully been able to restore it afterwards.
So unless this is addressed and something like a power check is done at boot, I will never return to using this recovery. (First thing I did when I got home was to replace recovery)

CWM is beyond well known for having charging issues.
On the rezound with CWM if you let your phone die, you couldnt recharge it. You had to charge your battery in another phone just to be able to boot to charge.

Last night i flashed Xylon 2.5 unOfficial Rom for quincyatt from ManelScott4Life off his site and then i flashed the recent 4Ace kernel and it was working perfectly for I used it for a couple hour before going to sleep. As I was listening to music on the way to school. It shut off and until now i need to take battery out n put back in order for it to boot for 5 seconds n shuts off again
Odd....But I still would not rule out a stuck button.
If you have a good backup that you can restore, you might could try a wipe and reflash of that backup.
The real test will be if you can boot into your recovery and it stays there. If it does not, then the problem leans toward a button issue again.
And of course, the battery could also be causing trouble. We have had failed batteries act the same as you describe. If you have a spare, try it. If not, plug the device into AC power and attempt the boot into recovery.
Either way, if the phone stays in recovery, you have a battery issue, or corrupted rom...g

How did you clean out your button? I have the EXACT same symptoms, but my rubber buttons in the case, and white power button appears to be clean. I can hear the button itself make contact. I can't get to recovery mode, but I can hit download mode for 5 seconds.
leaving the casing of the phone removed, I have the same exact symptoms so it Has to be the button itself... *shrug
the button gets stuck even when you still hear/feel it clicking. open the phone and blast it with duster. Press and depress the button rapidly many times till it frees internally

I have an s3 that has been rooted running a custom rom perfectly for about 5 months.
Today I was using my phone and it locked up - totally froze..screen was frozen and everything was unresponsive. So I pulled the battery.
When I put the battery back in my phone displayed the Samsung logo and after that just displays a black screen.
I can put the phone in download mode, however it will only be on the download screen for about 3 seconds before the phone either turns off or the screen goes black.
The really weird thing is, when I put the battery into my phone it will instantly boot up (I don't have to hold download the power button). The power button is NOT stuck in the down position.
I know the battery is charged. So what in the hell happened? I don't know if my phone is bricked or not. I could re-flash it but I can't do anything in download mode because of it turning off.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

take out the battery. insert it after atleast 5 minutes. i've read somewhere that S3 is sensitive to the order of the keys we hold to enter download or recovery modes. so to enter download mode, 1st hold HOME button, then VOLUME DOWN button and then the POWER button. (not sure i did this all the time but no problem for me till now). good luck
