[Q] No Mobile data after custom rom install - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i installed the Omega v41 rom in my galaxy s3 i9300. I had the rooted stock rom, and installed omega with cwm after a full wipe (wipe data, cache, dalvik). After the install, i used titanium backup to restore my apps. Tested the wifi, phone, sms, restored apps, and everything worked fine except the mobile data connection. So i read the forum and found some ideas, like erasing the APN settings and manually adding them later, but nothing worked. So i'm to re flash the modem to UBELL1 (from this thread) which seems to be the modem version for my area (South america, Argentina with the provider-> Movistar).
But my question is, it's necessary to re-flash the modem even if the phone and sms are working? O should i directly flash another rom or restore the stock rom backup?

you can call your carrier for the apn settings

I have the APN settings. So that's not a problem. And my friend who also have a galaxy s3 with the same company, uses the same settings. So it shouldn't be an APN setting problem

Do you have an IMEI and baseband?
Sometimes, this happens with corrupted IMEI folder.
Are you sure that your provider isn't having some problems?

I checked that, my IMEI is the same as the one before the rom install. And the base band is I9300XXELLA, the one from the Omega rom, so this is Ok also (no?).
The weird thing is also that when i send an MMS text i see the 3G connection indicator, but when the send is finished, the icon dissapears.

There is a very buggy situation with PDA XXELLA and latin american baseband that start with "UB" basically UB basebands or MODEMS are optimised for Latin american BANDS
So regardless of the Modem you have XXELLA is just not to friendly with Latin amercas BANDS...
i Have XXELLA PDA and i have tried several modems my suggestions is download PERKAS File Share from Google Play store and download and after installing it get the APP GET RILL from the Google play store and install the RIL for your modem
Modem XXELKC (i wont recommend you go anything lower than that other wise youll be using a 4.1.1 modem) after installing the modem Add the APN settings.
Try to extract an Modify the CSC from Movistar your Original carries ROM as i did...
i had the same situation as you had XXELLA PDA with ella and UBell1 modem and still buggy.. so i am on XXELKC and its Stable..
All i am hoping is that EMA and EMR are better with basebands..
Espero te ayude en algo amigo saludos

I tried with XXELKC, and i still have the same problem. Everything works (even MMS) except the data network. I think i'll try to restore from the original backup to see if i can extract the original CSC. I don't know what else to try really...
In another of my "tests" i tried to set the APN type to internet, and the 3G/H indicator appeared, but it still doesn't work (even though it drains battery like water).

[Q] Need Help Activating Data!!!

I have been using Exynos Extreme rom for the last couple of weeks and recently updated to v5.4. KH3 rom with latest speedmod kernel and KH3 radio. Everything seemed fine until a couple of nights ago i lost the ability to switch data on at all. I can check the "Use packet data" box in mobile networks but the 3G or H icons fail to appear in the task bar!!
I have tried absolutely everything possible to enable mobile data again but, to no avail. I've wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, tried KG3 radio, then back to KH3, reapplied the apn settings in "Access Point Names", tried toggling flight mode on and off. I then went on to perform a complete data/factory reset which, still wouldn't fix the problem. So as a last measure, I installed the latest stock rom "GT-I9100_XEO_I9100XXKH3_I9100XXKH3_I9100OXAKH3" in the hope that it would finally fix my problem. Well no luck thus far, reapplied the apn settings again but still no luck.
I also checked info in "About Phone/Status" and noticed that "Mobile network state" shows as "disconnected".
It seems I've completely exhausted all possible solutions and I'm at a complete loss as what step to take next. I would appreciate very much if someone on here could help me finally fix my data woes.
what kernel and modem version do you have?
if they are other than KH3. try flashing KH3. you can go with the CF-Root KH3 kernel
Was originally on KH3 radio and latest speedmod kernel with Exynos Extreme, then flashed to stock KH3 rom with KH3 modem and KH3 kernel. Also tried with CF-ROOT KH3 kernel. All are giving the same result. Now I've reflashed Exynos rom KH3 with KH3 radio again but still no luck.
Also forgot to state that I tried KG3 radio with Exynos KH3 rom before I performed factory reset.
did you try reflashing the csc for your region.
csc contains the information needed for data settings.
try one of these codes. There is quite a few data options amoung them.
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/4701-Galaxy-S-i9100-Secret-Codes
if all else fails re-flash and try the cognition s2 rom.Seems to be quite popular with this firmware and with alot of happy users.
Happened to me the other day but on villain rom, I'm on O2 by the way. I had to go into my APN settings and restore the default then the data started working. I'm still trying to work out what changed or messed up the settings as they have been working fine for several months.
Hi and thanks for your suggestion. Not tried that yet as i was unaware what the csc file does. I remember seeing links to those files in the "stock rom" thread but can't find that thread now lol. Any pointers or links for the csc files thanks?
If you have no CSC file network will connect using manual settings .

Thanks for the pointer but, I'm a bit daunted by the sight of so many csc files lol. Really not sure which one applies to me, I'm on giffgaff network that runs on O2 UK masts. I have the apn settings all input correctly but really not sure which one of these csc files would apply to O2 UK.
xeu uk csc applies to providers in the uk.
Happened to me once. Just go to wifi-network in settings and put in manually your APN settings, get them from your cell provider.

GPS problem LG-P760

I have a problem with gps, my phone finds the signal when I'm not moving, but in motion it's constantly lost.Tried to use Google Maps and other programs with offline maps. I've debranded the phone with v20B EU, may be this a problem? I've reflashed the stock rom but nothing changed. With CM10.1 the same problem. Any ideas?
Sorry for my English and thanks in advance.
You`ve tried something like Faster Fix or GPS Aids?
I have a similar problem with my P760. GPS fix takes forever and signal gets lost constantly.
You might try an app that lets you set your GPS server, I'm not sure if they help though.

What rom you had before flashing CM10.1? Was that from your own region? I used to use GPSFIX before, which worked like charm on O2X.

I had the stock 4.1 JB Rom EuroOpen, but the original Rom was 4.0.4 TIM Italia. I wanted to debrand my phone and to have JB, because my mobile operator has not updated it yet.
I think that EuroOpen is good for my region(Italy).
I tried GPSFIX, it's working only for fixing the signal, but lost it in motion.

Sometimes you may need exact baseband from your own area/country for better voice signal and gps.
Try at your own risk if you are good enough in flashing kdz and taking cwm backup and restore.
1) Take CWM backup on external card in TAR format (your current 4.1 JB)
2) Flash 4.0.4 Italian KDZ which is actually made for your country. Root it and install CWM.
3) Start in CWM mode, WIPE ALL DATA/CACHE and Restore back your latest rom 4.1JB.
4) Optionally use FASTERFIX over this for setting accurate NTP server near you.
What exactly happens is, in second step you are flashing BASEBAND of Italy and in third step while restoring CWM Backup, baseband is not replaced, because CWM does not flash baseband. It restores only ROM and DATA.
This will definitely improve your Signal for Voice Call and GPS reception, because you will be using 4.1 JB rom (from any country) but on Baseband made for Italy.
This is based on my own experience from this thread where I use 4.1 JB rom made for CIS countries but have baseband from my own country 4.0.4 India P765V10G working in background hardware.
Hope this helps. I dont guarantee it will work for you, but I tried and it worked for me.

Thanks a lot, I'll try it but just a question: if I flash the JB rom that is made for my country but not a an operator version? Because all operators have not update to JB. I found here an operator free version for Italy: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=18 . If I flash this .kdz it must install the BB too, right?
Thanks for answer and really sorry for my English

Have you tried to completely restore your phone using the official LGMobile Support Tool?
If you have modified the file "hosts" dont forget to delete or comment these two lines, anyway the link and the procedure dont work:
Code:
127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com
127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com
Restart your device in software update mode, run LGMobile Support Tool, clik Customer Support and then Recovery Phone
Keep in mind that this kind of recovery erase all data, even the internal sd card, so backup first..
If the gps issue persists it should be an hardware problem

[Q] No Service Issue

My i9100 suddenly started showing "No Service" message. What should i do ?
# I'm using P.A.C Rom
# Cleaned cache/delvik and done factory reset. But problem still there

Have you tried restoring a nandroid? I'm also on PAC atm, and haven't had any issues with signal.
Else, try a clean reflash of the ROM.

It worked well before. I don't have any previous backups. Yes i tired re-flash as well. Any other solution ?
Suddenly i noticed network is connected and received a SMS. But when i try to take a call it went back to "No Service".
It could be because of incompatible RIL and baseband. Did you happen to change these recently by any chance?
Don't flash any ril if you're on 4.2. Ril is only ok if you're on stock.
What you can try is to flash the stock ROM for your country /carrier. See if the problem persists .
And just a word of advice, always have a backup ready to go.

Flashed official firmware with Odin. But problem still exists. I noticed strange thing. One of my SIM cards working on it. But 2G network. Sometimes shifts to 3G but can't hold also signal strength is low. When i put other SIM it says Not registered on network (cant manually register even)
Did you definitely flash the firmware released for your carrier & region? Sounds to me like you may have flashed firmware intended for another carrier or region.
Try flashing a few modems. Look at which modems your carrier released for your region, start with those. Then, move onto o re her local carriers etc. If you still don't have any luck, go all our and flash whatever modem you can get your hands on (make sure it's compatible first obviously).
It may sound like a lot of work, but unfortunately there's no quick fix for something like this if flashing stock didn't work.
Oh wait. If you did actually flash a different stock rom, flash the correct one first. If you did get the right one first off, start flashing modems.

Ya. I flashed correct firmware. I'll try some more custom ROMS as well. With this ROM i can get 3G and 2G networks. Data also working. But signal is low. You think its a modem issue ?

No network, phone ask for PIN but it doesn't work

Last night I change the ROM of my S3 and the phone started to ask for the PIN, wich I have, and since then I can't use my sim, I'm not able to call, use mobile internet, etc.
I don't know what to do D:

Restore your backup (you did make a backup)
If not flash a stock rom from sammobile and see if that works. If not your efs could be corrupt do you have a backup of efs?
Modem
It happend the same thing to mine i instaled some roms and all gave me the same problems, so heres what i did, installed omega rom bases on android 4.3, instaled the stock kernel, and instaled the modem bases on my location which is xemg4(latin america), that solve my problems, if you did a efs backup check you imei with *#06# and see if its something diferent on there!
Best of luck!

LineageOS 14.1 for i9300 network services are not running.

I have null imei after update. LineageOS 14.1 for i9300 network services are not running. Is there a solution for this release and post? It is possible to make a development like "Zuluman, ariza", can you do this? I want so much. The only solution to this problem. I live in Turkey. I bought a device IMEI changed from abroad. These problems were solved for 4.4 and before, "Zuluman and Ariza". However, nothing was done for the new releases. Help, thank you
You need a patched modem.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I have it for 4.4. But not for later versions. Required for later versions. I want to install 7.1. Required for 7.1.
I recommend you flash a stock rom and see if the problem still exists.
Lineage os is frequently updated and it is very likely that the build you have has issues with wifi.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I tried to install but I get Error: 7 in the TWRP.
Tried with 3.0.2.2 and 3.1.0
Anyone with this problem too?
I have no cellular data on my Galaxy S3 i9300, with Lineage, though it works fine with Archidroid, which I have installed since. Cell Data worked briefly with Lineage, but now not at all. I believe it might have been triggered by turning off wifi, but not sure. Tried a complete wipe of all caches, data, system, etc. plus a reformat of internal before clean installing lineage-14.1-201727-nightly with GAPPS pico. My IMEI is still intact, so that doesn't seem to be the issue, as cited above.
I have the same problem unfortunately. I just wiped my old stock android from my Galaxy S III and installed Lineage OS 14.1. The installation seems to work well, except that my Sim card is not recognised. When I check "Baseband version" in Settings/Phone Status it tells me "Unknown". I assume it has something to do with the modem driver. Does anybody know where to get the right modem driver?
I tried googling for a modem driver and installing it with heimdall. But then my phone didn't start anymore and I had to reinstall Lineage OS...

Do you know where I can find such a stock version? Unfortunately I made a mistake with the recovery backup...
Look at sammobile.com or updato.com for the latest stock ROM.
Thank you! Unfortunately this didn't work... I downloaded the firmware (for Cyprus because the phone was bought in Cyprus) and used Odin to install it but now when I try to turn on the phone it just shows the boot screen (saying Samsung Galaxy S 3) and then goes black... I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here. Perhaps I didn't choose the right firmware, do you know how to find out what exact firmware I should download? I got the phone used, so I am not 100% sure it was bought in Cyprus, perhaps UK but it was bought without a network provider.

Is there anywhere I can get a clean unlocked stock rom for the U.S. GT-I9300? I lost mine and had to use a T-Mobile rom from elsewhere. Why is this, or a rom from any U.S. carrier nonexistent on the lists? Thanks!
The gt-I9300 was never sold in the USA so there was never a stock USA rom. The T-Mobile s3 was the sgh-t999.
Is the phone shown as the get-I9300 in download mode?

That statement doesn't make sense to me. I live in California, USA and bought it as an unlocked, no carrier, International GT-I9300 from BestBuy. It never had a carrier logo associated with it originally, but since I had to replace the original rom, it now includes a T-Mobile splash after the Samsung S3 splash.
Yes, it states that its a GT-I9300 in Download mode.
The gt-i9300 international was never sold by T-Mobile USA as it doesn't support LTE in the USA:https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php.

Thanks, but I'm not looking for a T-Mobile USA stock rom. I'm looking for the GT-I9300 USA International, Unlocked stock rom that originally came with my USA purchased GT-I9300. From what I understand, local service providers have access to it, but Samsung won't post it publicly, like the others. Hoping someone may have a link to a copy they've found or backed-up from their own USA GT-I9300.
I have never heard of or come across a USA international rom for the gt-i9300.

I brush three times I9300ZCUBML1, or useless.
lineage-14.1-20180124-nightly-i9300-signed.zip
And brush the rom can not use 5Ghz wifi, but when using the signal I9300ZCUBML1 than my nexus6p weaker, simply can not be used in a stable, so no problem.
Where did you get the ML1 ROM? I don't see it on sammobile.com: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s-/GT-I9300/. Since the ROM ends in ML1, it could be a 4.1 ROM. Thanks.
Following is worked for me on my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 with LineageOS 14.1:
1. Flash original ROM with Odin. (if at this moment IMEI is not correct use program "Samsung Tool" to manually edit IMEI)
2. In security setting, set SIM card lock to none. (After this you should permanently disable SIM pin request on startup on every new ROM)
3. Flash custom TWRP recovery with Odin.
4. Root phone.
5. Make nandroid backup of EFS using TWRP.
6. Wipe cache, system, boot, data and flash custom ROM (do not reboot system after flash).
7. After flashing custom ROM, restore EFS using TWRP.
8. Flash Opengapps, wipe cache, dalvik cache and reboot system.
9. Set everything up Google account...etc.
10. In options check if IMEI is valid. (If is not, reboot to recovery and try again to restore EFS)
If you don't have working cellular network after flashing custom ROM, read following:
From Play Store install app "Cell Network Reset".
Open app and run "Reset Cell Network". (This step is weird because some times after few minutes i get working network, some times after few seconds. Also some times i need to run "Reset Cell Network" few times in a row to get the network working)
I hope it will work for you
