Hi there, I was wondering what the resolution the DNA uses for its icons. Considering, it's a 440ppi screen, I was wondering if you guys were having any icon blurriness due to the fact that developers aren't updating the icons for the high ppi screen.
Thanks!

Hey all, I'm getting a Hero soon and I want to know if there's a way to change the resolution of the Hero?
I now own a HTC Diamond2 which is almost 1:1 to the Hero hardware and it uses a 480 x 800 resolution.
And now since Android 2.0 is out it supports bigger resolutions... so the question is - is it possible to change Hero's 320 x 480 resolution to 480 x 800?
Hello,
I just bought a new VW beetle, but my friend has a Porsche. Is there any way to make my VW run 300kph like the Porsche does?
OP, I hope this is a joke. For your sake, and humanity's.
no problem, just put the diamond on top of the hero and push really hard.
you can also use your fullhd tv to get fullhd on the hero, but you need really high pressure then...
lol this made my day...

****ing hell guys... A little harsh? He was only asking a simple question.
The answer is no, unfortunately the screen itself is different to the Diamonds and won't support the higher resolution.

Thanks for the answer. I just thought it's up to the software/OS...
the dimond is not 480x800
it is 480x640
But he wrote Diamond 2, so 480*800 is right.
Just FYI, LCD displays (and all flat displays regardless of type) cannot magically add resolution to themselves.
An LCD screen is a grid of lights. With a 480x800 LCD, there is a grid of 384,000 extremely small light bulbs, arranged in a grid 480 lights wide and 800 lights high. If you give the screen anything more or less than a 480x800 picture, it will convert the picture into 480x800, losing detail in the process.
In televisions, a 720p television (1280x720) can still accept a 1080p picture (1920x1080); it has hardware that will convert the image to the right resolution. If you bought a 1080p television instead, it would display the picture as intended.
I hope that, now you know how LCDs work, that you know how much of an idiot you made yourself look. No offence. We all have to laugh at ourselves sometimes.
so now that some people have this device, how smooth does the text look? no more pentile pixel layout should mean a gorgeous superb looking screen. my mouth is watering at the thought of OLED pixels without the fuzzy text look of the super amoled screens.
how do web pages look? small text, and text in general? is it really noticeable over the first galaxy s and nexus s screen?
To me it looks great

does the screen look more pixelated than on the original galaxy s
it should look LESS pixelated than the galaxy s, but i dont know. that's what i'd like to know though.
wish there was some way to show close up smoothness of the screen to others out on the web thru pics or something, but its hard to do. maybe some close up shots?
you can always put a tiny droplet of water on the screen to magnify the pixels and take a pic.
Hi,
I have asked this question in a few other threads as well but I have some gradient issues which however doesn't appear to be a generic issue as I've not seen anyone else complain about it.
Text is as sharp as you would expect a screen of this size to be (I'm coming from the 4" LCD of X10i). Its slightly less sharp than the LCD but nothing unexpected.
Contrast is superb as are the viewing angles!
My display however shows colour banding as you can see in the grey background of the NeuralNet WP snapshot I uploaded (Sorry for the quality, its my X10)
Anyone else with this issue?
let me just dig out my SLR and take a picture of my screen, I too have "banding" but it's no worse than any other LCD/LED screen I've used.
It's certainly not something I can say I've noticed without actually looking for.

The banding is much worse than on my old Galaxy Spica (24bit LCD), but the overall screen quality is amazing and I don't notice the banding most of the time.

Could it be that people coming from LCD displays are more sensitive to the banding effect?
When I compare the display with my X10i (LCD), the effect is apparent!
Aargh.. the display is so awesome .. why the doggone banding!!!
I played with a SGS2 for 20 minutes today. I was extremely bothered by the pentile on the original, so much that it's one of the main reasons I got rid of it.
Happy to report that there is NO pentile whatsoever on the new version and it looks exactly like a 4.3" 800x480 LCD does, but with SAMOLED Plus colors and contrast Pixels are pixels, like they should be.
I haven't had the Galaxy S, but my girlfriend uses the iphone 4, and I would say the Galaxy S 2 whups the iphone 4 on screen quality ( not resolution ) but over all clarity of images, web pages is alot better ( in my opinion. )
This screen is much better bcause of its real stripe matrix. Compared to a friends iPhone 4 a couple of nights back, particularly in terms of text in the browser. Text on the iPhone is definitely better with its pixel density, but the difference really is not that great at all - he was actually really surprised when I told him the actual resolution, because he thought they looked so close in terms of clarity!

I'd bet a lot of money that it IS only 16 bit color right now. Samsungs other amoled screens were only 16 bit color when they came out on the nexus one etc.
I had a Galaxy S and compared them side by side.
There's no question about it - the S II looks ten times better than the original. There's no more of the graininess, and despite the slightly lower pixel density it appears sharper as the fuzzy edges caused by PenTile are gone.
Colours are also smoother since the slight graininess is gone.
I've been using a nook color for some time and one thing I really like is the screen.
How would you guys say the Galaxy 5 compares in screen quality?
Colors/Viewing Angles?
Regards,
Mike
Bright colors, good viewing angles, bad resolution. Everything looks blown up, so I change the DPI to 200, but that breaks Google Play, so I install everything before change it.

The screen is a VA type not IPS as in the Nook. The Nook has the better screen.
That's not to say that VA is bad but it does suffer from some washout of the color and a slight tint change at wide angles. In any event VA is *much* better than TN.
Also, I think, SCLCD is better, then AMOLED (In SGS+ and SGSII), because SCLCD has much better viewing angles and have not an inversion of colors or "rainbow" effect on the screen. And, for me, it has better colors, excluding black, of cource. IPS has "true" black, TFT is not as good, as SCLCD. So, if you prefer a good screen, IPS is better, next SCLCD. In 4.2 IPS screen, in 4.0 SCLCD, in 5.0 and 3.6 - TFT. But, all features considered, I think that 4.0 is better, than other (in 4.2 2mpx camera w/o AF).
P.S. Sorry for my bad English (^__^)
The Nexus One and Nexus S both had the same resolution (800 x 480) which makes sense for a reference device as having a stable target for UI / display is beneficial to developers. It allows them to acclimate to a certain resolution to produce the best looking apps available. They seem to have ditched tradition (and sensibility) by going from 1280 x 720 to 768 in a year, different resolution, different aspect ratio.
Personally I find that there isn't enough vertical resolution what with the navbar and status bar so it all seems kind of silly.
Perhaps Google is going to do something new with the increased lateral resolution?
I am not a developer so correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the android SDK have some sort of implementation that makes apps compatible with a lot of screen sizes and resolution? So I don't think changing the resolution will matter so much.
Hello RXT Users,
I bought a new Realme XT (6GB,64GB, Pearl White) Mobile, which works like a beast.
But within a week, I accidently noticed that the true deep blacks of Amoled display actually kills the surrounding Grey colour pixels especially in videos (or moving frames).
When I using Instagram, Samsung just posted some photos. when I try to swipe one photo horizontally, I noticed that the gradient colours (White to black) are like vanished some time and and a bluish shade is appearing btw the blacks and whites.
Then I started comparing this with other LCD panel, which is not doing these weird things. I also did a side by side comparison btw Realme XT and other LCD display by playing a dark horror movie. The results came was not expected.
First things first, the picture quality, colours, contrast and viewing angles are awesome in Amoled display, But the grey coloured details which are nearer to the black pixels are missing, they are completely gone.
Example:
• Original frame in the movie - A dark room with cupboards and interior.
• Picture shown in LCD display - white blushed dark room with cupboards and interior.
• Picture shown in Realme XT - A Deep Dark Black room with no interiors no cupboards or even no walls.
I can't understand why the Amoled display takes more time when pixels changes from black to grey colours, may it's because of low refresh rate.
Can anyone please tell the display refresh rate of Realme XT and try the above tests to clarify that I am not the only one who got these weird thing. Thanks in advance.
Note: I am using Amoled display for the first time.
This is quite disturbing to know. I was planning on buying XT and returning my Poco armoured, as it has ghost touch issues and I don't need that much processor power for daily usage.
Also, with XT getting started on development I hope I won't miss Poco. But with the above-mentioned issue, I'm getting skeptical because my primary reason to get XT was AMOLED display. I don't want to get disappointed by it.
Although it doesn't has ambient display and dark mode yet but I hope it'll be there in future updates.

After reading this post I checked my xt's display for the greys in dark scenes with my le 2 LCD display and I'm pretty satisfied. I was able to see most of the details of dark scenes that was visible on the other phone. Plus I found it's very vibrant as compared to the le 2 and brightness level is also much better.
