Hi, I'm getting a HTC Amaze in the mail this week and wanted to know if I can root it without installing a custom rom or launcher, I just want to download the latest Android OS but keep it stock. Is it possible? I had rooted phones before and those custom roms tend to lag after a week or so.. I'll appreciate any help Thanks.

Yes
I deem you anyhow bought one of those sometimes called here - UNBRANDED - which has its CID #44, and in this case you can't just upgrade it from GB to ICS.. You will have to pass all the way as follows:
Unlocking bootloader >> getting 4EXT custom recovery >> installing SuperUser >> performing S-OFF >> writing SuperCID >> flashing ICS Firmware >> finally ICS ROM of your choice ..
All the aforementioned is full of fun
P.S. To check your new toy CID - use this tool:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsIm9yZy50cml0b25zb2Z0LmNpZGdldHRlciJd
Ok thanks for the info..

You can also get your CID from fastboot.
fastboot getvar cid
SIM Unlocked, S-Off, CM10, Super CID, 4EXT HTC Amaze on AT&T
I Also purchased HTC Amaze - UNBRANDED - , ans sucessfuly done Unlocking bootloader >> getting 4EXT custom recovery >> installing SuperUser >> performing S-OFF >> writing SuperCID >> flashing ICS Firmware >> finally ICS ROM .
And realy its was real fun in doing all of these.
You do know that CM10 official nightlies are out for the Amaze, right? Ditch ICS and put some jellybean in your life!! Unless you rely on Wifi calling for tmobile, that is.

As-Salamu Alaykum Hassaan!
If you download this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter
you see that your phone CID is #44 Asia..
Consequently before flashing any ICS ROM you MUST complete ALL following steps
1 Unlocking bootloader
2 flashing 4EXT custom recovery
3 installing SuperUser
4 performing S-OFF
5 writing SuperCID
6 flashing ICS Firmware
7 flashing ICS Energy ROM thru 4EXT recovery (opt for the stock kernel when prompted)..
Shukriya & Enjoy it!

Look, you can use any ROM, you just need to do the super CID so that the phone will accept the ROM. To do this trick you need to have root access and be S-OFF. There are threads about super CID; do a search.

Yes, there are 3 ways
1. Softwate/OTA update from HTC (Officially)
2. S-OFF your Desire X and use a modified P66IMG.zip to manually flash hboot update.
3. Use an RUU for Hboot update (if available)
Regards
Yasir
As far as i know option two (S-OFF) isn't possible for Desire X as of yet, and option three (a JB RUU) hasen't been released.
So we're just left with option one. Do i miss something?

You can only update hboot via OTA update, and for that, you need stock Rom, like it was before rooting, and stock recovery. Then you'll get the hboot update to 1.24 and then 1.25 hopefully.

s-off involves high risk of bricking the device thats why devs stay from it and its very hard to attain s-off as it requires lot of hardware knowledge.. leavin aside some fancy mods, we can still do alot of development without s-off
S-OFF
ohok didnt realise it was that hard to do also when a device is bricked due to this does that mean using a JTAG recovery thing, (I saw one of the guys in the elegancia rom post meantion this) would not recover a bricked phone ?

jtag should allways be able to recover any bricked device (thats kinda point of using it)
oohk just got the idea that it didnt always work although the JTAG thing I was looking at did several things like S-OFF supercid etc

You're not stupid, just not reading much.
Yes, you need a stock ROM with everything intact (not even a single file is missing).

@ckpv5.
I recently tried an experiment. My bro Huawei phone got ota but as he had modified system apps, the ota failed. His ota also had firmware and hboot update (89mb)
I opened the ota zip, in updater script removed all assert checks, and then flashed ota, and it completed, even his firmware and hboot got updated. Have we ever tried fooling HTC stock recovery ?

1st off all sorry guys if this is another repost but i just got tierd of searching for this problem. It may be me not knowing what exactly to search for... don't really know. But...
I have one unbranded Amaze (guess it is unbranded since there's no tmobile logo or other's carrier). There is no way i can find a working wifi ICS rom. By now, i just found the same problem on tmobile support forum without a reliable workaround.
So... 1st i've used the stock ruu from tmobile. no success. wifi starts, some times it detects few ssids with no singnal but not mine wich is few meters away. I also tried android revolution HD rom with final firmware from their thread and latest hboot. Still no wifi. At first i thought it's a hardware isssue, but that thought is gone since i got back to GB and everything works just fine.
I'm thinking to get the security back on and try update to the latest official software... but i have a feeling that won't solve the issue...
Does anyone have a clue about this...?

Hi there.
You should give us more info as to whether or not you're s-on, s-off, supercid, etc.
Did you try and connect to other Wi-Fi's? Like a neighbors unlocked Wi-Fi?
You said it worked on GB and not ICS...
Hmm. I would try and relock, run a RUU, then finally unlocking it and doing S-OFF, Super Cid, and whatever you need to do again.

Brand new with a custom rom on it? Hmmm... Sounds like you bought it used.
Anyway, make sure its not a configuration issue with your wifi router. Go to a local hotspot that's free and see if you connect.
BT does not work on viper rom. So the question is, does it work on another ics - based ROM, or are you saying BT does not work at all?

Thanks guys for the great help... seems that after i installed ARHD and did a full wipe + changed the wifi channels (i have a 2 spots bridge for one single ssid), radio connection is up and running. Also BT works perfect.
Thanks again! :good::good::good:
Hello, friends I'm new here, I have an AT & T HTC One, I wonder if I can flash ROM International, through the RUU. My phone is bootloader unlocked, S-OFF, Super-CID.

I live in Brazil, my AT & T HTC One came with the factory rom 4.1.2 and can not update it, I would update it to 4.4.2 KitKat. So I will flash 4.4.2 for htc international, to avoid AT & T. applications
I do not like the AT & T screen when I start the phone.
sorry for my english ...
Thank's
