For anyone interested in themeing the LGOG (or any device), member luxxx123 has created an app to make it much less tedious to port a theme. His thread with all the details is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37672241
I hope someone with the right no-how takes it upon themselves to make use of this (hint, hint).

Please and thank you,

Here are some links to get you started. There's a lot of stuff to learn, so my best advice is to be patience and lurk, read, and learn. I know nothing about your particular device, but much of this will apply.

Look for the sticky thread by Cyanogen in this forum called "some advice". Are you looking to build roms from source, or just modify existing roms?
Do you know any Java or C?
Building roms may seem fun, but it takes research and patience. Lurking github commits, textbooks, and the forums is a great start. The community is very eager to help, and that's one of my favorite parts about android. But deving shouldn't be as simple as copy paste. Where's the fun in that?
I understand where you're coming from though, I was the same way a few months ago. Built a rom from source, posted it, then realized how uninformed I was.
I am now improving my skillz by reading textbooks on Java ("Head First Java") and C ("The C Programming Language"), both available as pdf documents. I'm mucking around in kernels and am going to start writing apps as well. Its a good place to learn the framework. You could also get into theming, but that requires a little graphic design know-how.
Good luck man, and have fun with it

Me too would like to learn more about creating ROMs for android (Galaxy S I9000 here)
I do have java experience (quite a lot, actually) but I really have no idea where to start when creating a ROM
thanks
Did you ever get a kitchen going?
If anyone out there is like me, they are ANAL about their phones appearance. I enjoy themeing, and i get positive feedback on my themes (here's my latest one, for example). However, I must admit, my knowledge is limited. I do a lot of kanging and collaborating, and I dont know how to edit .9pngs, which hinders my ability. Also the fact that I dont know how to create an image from scratch. Not to mention, Im not a big ROM flasher so I cant release themes for a lot of ROMs.
I would like to get a "theme team" going for the vibrant, and add some more flavor to the forum. im mainly looking for someone/people who is/are good with .9pngs and flashes a lot of ROMs. Please let me know. Thanks.

I'm always willing to help anyone who has questions, but my time is limited on physical contributions. Also, I recently hijacked birgertime's (sorry man ) thread here With some basic information on .9s.
I've considered opening up a separate theming Q&A thread, but I thought it might get locked since there's already one in the main android forums. Between you and me though, questions don't get answered there.
I created some themes a while ago for the Captivate. I was thinking of porting some of them while I'm on leave for the Holidays. I only have a few days left and my working hours are ridiculously long. So, if I do port them I may need someone else to pick-up maintaining the themes. The poll on here is just to figure out which themes the community would like me to port. Keep in mind that some of them were made for the Captivate on Froyo before we had GB. If new screen shots for the themes are needed I'll provide them as requested. Links to the themes can be found in my signature.
So, I was thinking of creating a ROM, using a CWM backup (I don't have knowledge to do a proper ROM yet). Not exactly creating, but mix of mods that I use. Not of the mods are mine, just they all-in-one.
What do you think? Should I do it?
It sounds a good idea but think of all the permission you would need ...
Honestly I think it is a bad thing, that's why we have themes and apps section, so people can choose for themselves. If we have many what you call 'union of mods ROM' created by people with little understanding on how to actually make mods or themes, themers get less motivation in making more themes etc. because they get less respond and appreciation of their work. I believe the same goes for developers of actual ROMs. Which in the end is bad for further development.
But ofc, if you are able to create something unique and actually good that would be nice (ps. not pointing at anyone)

You have a point here. It was just an idea. But, if anyone wants, I can share what I have...

Several of you have made some fantastic themes, but not yet quite what I'm looking for. I'm and orange guy, so I'm looking for an orange theme. I was hoping that one of the themers out there would take the time to put together a little tutorial so that the rest of us could make some themes that suit us individually. I look forward to someone putting this together. Thanks. I don't know anything about m10 files and theming and what not, but I'm willing to give it a go with a little guidance to follow.
