MMS workaround - HTC Droid DNA

Any progress on a picture sms fix or workaround for AT&T? My texts work fine but I cannot send or receive pictures on my DNA. Thanks for any help!

The current work around is annoying and nothing beats the stock message client, but for now you need to use a 3rd party one to get it to work.
1. Use a kernel that writes to /system (ask in the kernel thread if you're not sure)
2. Google search for your carriers APN settings and fill the details in: settings>mobile data>GMS/UMTS options>access point names with the APN details.
3. Download go sms pro and you will find an MMS option in red. At the bottom of the page, tick 'fill APN information manually' in the fields below you will need to duplicate the information from your android APN.
Pretty hectic just to get MMS right?
This works for GSM users in Australia and if it is worth it for you to try I hope it works for you too. Alternatively you could use Virtuous ROM which is based on a Butterfly firmware, which is in fact a GSM phone! MMS works fine on this ROM with stock apps.
Good luck friend

Old trouble, no answer
As we all know, SMS will convert to MMS all the time when we have a long sms ( more than 3 sms )at most of stock HTC or samsung messager. Although that, some device have [Mod] to fix like samsung galaxy s. I have try at my old galaxy s and I can sent whatever long sms as I like without being force convert mms. How about evo 3d? This is old problem, but I still can not have solution for evo 3d
Is there anyone can help ?

As far as I know no one has really asked this question before. I don't think there is a fix for the 3 page convert to MMS "problem." Is there a legitimate reason why you'd prefer 4+ pages of sms over 1 MMS message?

Yes all "stock sms apps" when creating sms & it exceeds 3pages it will convert it into mms (most peopleget charged for sending mms)
Darky Rom had a fix/tweak which allowed longer sms text without it being converted to mms..
I am after that tweak/fix !!!
PLEASE HELP
In my country, lot of people use stupid phone, and they can not receive MMS . I usually sent a long SMS because of my job. I am now use handcent SMS but I prefer the stock more .

Just use BigSMS, Go SMS Pro or Handcent SMS. All of those are free. Stock messaging app on some phones doesn't have a feature that you need.

Some mobile carriers offer free sms and costly mms. Legitimate enough?

very simple fix change your mms the one i use under setting you put a check where it says split sms so when you type a long txt it convert it and it gets to the other person in 2 or 3 txt.
copy it to your sd-card use root explorer or which ever one you use or sdk move it to system/app then click on permissions make the correct settings reboot the phone once rebooted find it click on it then setting and you will see where it says split sms. i uploaded a copy if needed.
Am I missing something here?
I've actually never heard of it being converted over to MMS.
My phone will send an 8 page message as SMSs..
And I get them counted as 8 SMSs on the bill..

well let me try usually sms has a split of 160 character so when you go over the 160 it treats it as a mms character but it gets sent as a txt but in 2 parts or depending how long the txt is
It differs user to user (and service provider restrictions)..stock app for some will convert SMS into MMS after character limit is reached..
Only some users will have stock messaging app settings as unlimited characters..
(use Handcent messaging app or better still custom roms)

Not sure if this helps but I had similar problem way back when I was running NonSense ROM the fix is you have to flash HTCMessageProvider.apk.
PM me if you need the file ...also I am under the assumption of you using a custom ROM.

Two Notes One Problem

I have two galaxy notes.. and one sends MMS just fine the other doesn't they both receive and both have data access.
I am switching my StraightTalk Sim between the phones to test and i have confirmed about 800 times the APN settings are exact. But to no avail one works one doesn't... THe only difference is the version of Flapjaxx rom i am running ones a version newer.
I have the same thing with my FJ 4.2.2 ROM. MMS won't receive but will send. Other than that, I love the ROM.
The APN settings that come with a ROM are in an XML file (just a text file, really). If there is an extra space or blank character in that file the APN setting will be wrong. You won't even see it if its at the end of a line.
In the phone with Flapjaxxx ROM make another APN, save it, and use it. When you verify it works correctly for data and MMS, delete the other.

BOth have flapjaxx roms.. ones just a little older than the other and do you know where that XML is.. so i can manually edit it and see if there are extra spaces?
I've had that problem on all the 4.2.2 roms. Can send but not receive. Every now and then i will receive one but 70% of the time its a no go

i figured it out.. the APN was correct and by default it would not send then i remember i used GO SMS pro and enabled the custom MMS apn.. so i redid that and bam the second phone works now. Thanks all for the help
That app was stopping your MMS?
Where does it keep the APN?

NO Picture Message SENDING Droid RAZR Maxx (xt912) on CM11

I am now running CM11 (Android 4.4 Kit Kat Edition) on my MAXX and so far only two issues:
If you loose service, it stays gone no matter how far u go, until you reboot
SMS will NOT send any saved pictures. MMS in general just does not work.
When I attempt to send multimedia, it either says that no "APN" is assigned to be me, or that the destination address is invalid.
I was having this issue too. Mainly because of this and gps killing my signal, I'm no longer on cm. Was nice how much faster phone was and better my battery life was.
If anyone knows how to fix mms on cm11 I'd appreciate it too!

Awesome! First of all, I installed on the stock rom I'm on, because the quick reply/read option was one of the biggest things I missed from cm.
Next, what release of cm are you on? Are you running into any issues with it? And would you recommend still using jbx?

I have been able to fix mms by opening the dialer and entering *#*#4343#*#* This didnt seem to be permanent fix but kept it working for quite sometime. Found this solution back when the same problem existed on a 4.2 AOKP rom and fortunately it worked again.

I was getting the "No APN specified on this device" message on a regular basis, but searching through forums is a great help!
8sms has fixed it for me (again!), but the problem was that one of the recent cm11 nightlies wiped the MMSC setting for 8sms - not sure how that happened, but here's the info from my post on CM's forums: (sorry, still can't post links ... I've cut all the links out of this post, but if you go to forum [dot] cyanogenmod [dot] com [slash] topic/89488-disappearing-apnsbroken-mms/#entry450737 you'll see the original, with all the links and appropriate settings)
Looks like they're working on it specifically:
Code:
vendor/cm: add more verizon apns
* Because we didn't already have enough did we?
* This fixes "No apn selected for device" when sending/receiving
MMS.
(see my cm forum post)
HOWEVER - Reviewing what I did before to fix MMS (see gldickens3's post, installing and configuring 8sms), I went to the 8sms app's settings and saw that the MMSC was now blank. I set that back to (see my cm forum post) and immediately after tapping "OK" I received 3 messages. I've since been able to send and haven't had the APN message pop up.
Here is a modified list of gldickens3's steps from the other thread (link above), slightly modified because it seems some things in 8sms have changed:
1. Install 8sms
2. Go to 8sms > Settings > MMS settings and set MMSC to: (see my cm forum post)
3. Disable stock SMS
4. Reboot
Note the changes - SMMS settings is now MMS settings and Stand Alone mode is no longer in the settings (at least on mine).
If you're in the same scenario as me, 8sms already installed and setup as default, simply doing step 2 might be all you need to do, as it fixed the issue for me.
Now, I don't know why the nightly update changed 8sms settings, but now I'll know exactly what to check if the next build does the same thing.
If you try this out and it works, please reply and confirm.

MMS Issues

I know way back in the CM 7 days, I had a bunch of issues with Bluegrass Cellular and MMS when I used CM. I fixed this by updating my APNs and flashing a modified Misc.img. I still have this Misc.img from my HTC Desire CDMA phone, but now I have a HTC Deluxe. Is it okay to flash that same file and see if it fixes the MMS or does anyone else have a better idea?
CM Nightly cm-11-20140508-NIGHTLY-dlx.zip
I am unable to SEND and RECEIVE.
Don't try the Misc.img. But you should just be able to add the APNs. If you don't have that option, then look at a 3rd party SMS app that allows you to add your own MMS settings. Ones that support this include but are not limited to:
Go SMS Pro
Hello SMS
Easy SMS
Chomp SMS
Textra
Handcent SMS
Sliding Messaging
Pretty sure those all support it and there's probably a couple more floating around there too.

Thank you very much for your reply... But I have already added the APN settings from what it was years ago. Not sure if there is a way to grab them off a nandroid backup, but even after adding those APN settings, I still can't get or send anything.
Well what messenger are you using? If it isn't working with stock, then try a 3rd party alternative. This is not uncommon with CM for CDMA devices as typically CM is built for GSM and then adapted to work with CDMA. Sometimes there's little weird things like that. Did you check in the thread for the rom you are using to see if other users are reporting similar problems? It's also possible the APNs are different from GB to KK. That happens often.
Okay, I tried using Handcent SMS and manually set the MMS settings and I still get the same thing.. Sending..
Isnt there a site that lists all the APN settings so I can make sure they havent changed? Or is there a way to get them from the stock nandroid backup?
And yes, I looked there and there was only 17 threads total, and there was nothing about MMS.
Did you do a clean or dirty flash? Users are reporting issues while dirty flashing that breaks MMS. Also, a few were having problems using 3rd party apps, but got it to work by adding the settings to Hangouts and sending via there. Another option is grabbing the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml from your original rom and moving that to the same folder of CM, make sure the permissions are set and reboot. Most of the sites with APN settings are only for GSM as typically most people don't need to mess with them for CDMA stuff. I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671592
and
http://forum.melbia.com/bluegrass-c...ar-apn-settings-for-iphone-android-t1011.html
for the actual settings themselves, though do not know if they work for KK, being that threads were from a year or 2 ago.
Well not sure what has changed but now I am getting "service not available on network.". And I have already followed those posts. I actually posted on the first one years ago.
I'm not trying to be difficult, just nothing is working

One Max on AT&T GoSMS not working

I've had a Droid DNA that I used on AT&T with no problem. I just used GoSMS Pro for my mms. Now, on my One Max, I can't send or receive mms with GoSMS or any other app. I looked through the threads on here and searched Google but I've had no luck finding a fix. Any help would be great. I love this phone and don't want to have to give it up.
Thanks

Yup, it's a Verizon One Max. I have everything working but mms. Its stock running 4.4.2 not s-off or unlocked or rooted, just plain stock.
As far as I know if memory serves me correctly verizon blocks usage for mms for some reason, att did this also with 4.4.2

Try manually add the mms APN line inside gosms settings. When I was on Verizon I never used the stock messaging service.
