I was running the Unbranded UK version xxella and had no such problems however i changed back to the official OPtus australian version xxema2 and i have the same problems now, it also wont charge in my car anymore proberly and when using phone plugged in and bluetooth it will drain the battery not charge it. I'm in the process of changing back to xxella. i know 4 people near me that have S3's and they all complained about this issue. We are all on the Australian Optus. But from my findings it is in the new firmware this bug.

I have searched the forums but not found a thread which is similar to my problem.. I know there are battery drain issues with wifi etc but this is wierd and only started happening a few days back.
Basically i plug phone in to charge and it charges completely normally and quickly as it used to but only charges up to about 68/70% then it basically stops charging any higher, LED still red, charging display over battery still there. Turning phone off, rebooting, unplugging and plugging charger back in all makes no difference!
Any ideas what could be the cause of this? how to resolve?
I'm on stock JB, using the official wall charger and USB cable and i made sure the battery was full when i updated to JB as well.
Try a different battery, these are getting to the point where some will start to fail, six month warranties on batteries for a reason.
Well i have a £1.99 spare battery in atm as i run the original battery completely flat today. Seriously though be surprised if battery fail after 3/4 mths - never had battery dying issues on previous phones i've had until they were a good 2/3 years old.. Always a first though LOL
Its like the battery is saying its fully charged at 70%, now its completely flat i will charge it overnight with the phone off to full (if it gets there) and see if is resets the battery callibration or something.
Try to wipe battery stats via cwm recovery/advanced.

if you are rooted than download batterycalibration and untick 100% charge and click recalibrite and leave the phone on charge and it should charge up nto 100%

This app just wipes battery stays, so you can do same by going to cwm/advanced/wipe battery stats.

It has nothing to do with wiping battery stats. I think Kangburra is right...
UPDATE.
Shamed to say that i am not rooted yet... I have been there and done all that on my old phone ZTE Blade, but i really like the added functions that TW brings and don't suffer much in the way of anoying redraws or lag etc (although i do feel that TW could be optomised alot better along with better RAM Management)
I was going to at least root to sim unlock but got a sim free unlocked phone so had no need, then other stuff i wanted to do like freeze samsung apps etc is all possible without root and i've not come across that "I" need root at the moment.. was going to for APPS2ROM but i got no need to free up space yet.
Cheers for the suggustions though - I have that battery callibration app already (from old phone days) obviously don't work though.
Anyway - I am monitoring battery atm but it seems that running the battery completely flat until it turned itself off and charging overnight with battery off has resolved this issue - maybe this reset the battery stats and recalibrated it.
Its back to normal now, charges upto 100% as normal!! Fingers crossed this was just a blip
Im using Cyanogen Mod 10.1 build Jan 23 on my phone. Till recently (2 days specifically) my battery has started acting up. When i connect it to the wall charger it charges super slow. Also if I'm browsing or using the phone for an email or anything during charge the charge on the battery still drops. I also charged the phone using a blackberry charger same issue happens. The battery takes 6-8 hours to charge completely.
This also happened to me the first time i charged my phone when i got it. But it fixed itself after that.
It behaves the same when i switch off the phone and charge it.
Plz Help.
Samsung Galaxy S3 [I9300]
CyanogenMod 10.1
Sounds like a bad battery imo. You didn't turn down the charging rate in a custom kernel by anychance?
CM10 nightlies are still under DEV so you can expect a battery drain until stable versions comes out !!
Im using Stock Kernel on the device. No changes made to it or battery charge rate. Should I buy a new battery? Or can it be a hardware issue?
Like being said before CM10.1 is still in dev.
Try flashing back to stock and test.
Welcome to the baffled S3 charging issues thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727540
I'm pretty certain it's not a ROM or a kernel issue. The same is happening to me.
My suspicions lie in the actual charging port and/or the battery. I don't have a spare battery to test. But this happens no matter what rom I use. It tends to be fine after a fresh ROM install or a fresh wipe. But it goes back to 'acting up' after some time.
For example, I left it at around 4% last night only to wake up to it at around 33%. Where before, it would fully charge after around ~4 hours or even less.
Another symptom is that when on wifi/data (whilst plugged in) the phone still drains and even faster so when it is actually downloading something.. This isn't your typical battery drain.
NOT a rom/kernel issue as some would like to suggest (for a "quick thanks" maybe...? ) as this isn't your usual battery drain.
Hi all,
About a month ago my S3 I9300 started charging slowly, it takes about 5-6 hours to do a full charge. I have since noticed strangely enough it charges at the normal rate (about 1.5 hours) if flight mode is enabled before connecting the charger. This led me to believe there is some kind of excessive battery drain when the cell network is enabled however the phone isn't discharging any faster than normal and the cellular entries in the battery settings aren't showing any abnormal drain levels.
When the problem first started, I was running 'stock' Samsung ROM 4.1.1. I have since rooted and factory reset, and installed ParanoidAndroid 3.55, which hasn't solved the charging problem. I still have to put it into flight mode first to get a charge done at normal rate.
Here's what I've also tried:
- Two different chargers
- Different USB wire
- Tried charging from my PC instead
- Removed the battery from the phone for 5 minutes (as suggested some place)
- Restarting the phone before connecting the charger
Nothing has solved the problem thus far. The battery is showing as 'healthy' and I've always looked after it and always done proper charge cycles - i.e waiting for the level to get down to around about 5 to 10% then doing one single full charge all the way up to 100% - i.e. good standard Li-Ion charge discipline. The phone is about 9 months old. The battery has very good endurance when fully charged, lasting 1 to 2 days as normal. I don't have a reason to believe the battery itself is faulty.
I have searched and read other posts, there have been some charge related problems before, although none I have found relate specifically to this flight mode issue. Does anybody have any ideas what may be causing? Or how I can diagnose the problem in more detail - some recommended battery charging app?
Thanks very much
Usb port replacement and new reflash solved my problem. It was just like yours.

Thanks. I feared it may be a hardware problem. If it becomes far too much of a nuisance, or gets worse, I'll look into getting a repair done.

P.S sorry for my bad english
Hey all.
I've seen a few posts with this topic but none seem to completely match the symptoms I've been having;
I've got a samsung S3 i9300, stock ROM and unrooted with a serious charging issue. Seems no matter what I do the phone won't charge. I've tried:
Mains Charging
USB Charging (through PC)
Wireless Charging
Changed three different batteries
Used the galaxy charging app to make sure it's getting the 999 it needs on mains
Begged the Gods to charge it.
On everything it will state the phone is charging but never go above 3 or 4% regardless if it's on or off.
I've watched the battery graph nosedive whilst it's off charging, putting it on charge only flattens it a bit.
I'm just curious as to how I go about fixing this; is this some sort of software glitch? Have I been cursed? Do I need to perform some sort of battery exorcism?!
My thanks for any and all replies.
sounds more like a hardware issue ,have you tried with other battery(new ones) ,how old is your phone ?
Try factory reset, followed by stock firmware flash with Odin if that doesn't help.
If still the same then probably hardware, charging circuit failed. A work around would be two batteries and external charging cradle.
I've tried a factory reset. It seemed happy to charge on mains again but got up to only 45%, and levelled off; it refused to charge more (I left it for an hour) It then started dropping rapidly, going from 45 to 41 in less then two minutes.
I've noticed another oddity; even though I've turned WiFi off, the battery screen reports it as constantly on.

I've tried three battieres, no luck
Hello,
I have Samsung Galaxy S3, rooted, running on CyanogenMod 11 M12 Snapshot (cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-i9300) and i have two main problems.
1) Firstly, I have a problem with battery. My battery is charging and discharging very fast. I had this problem also on TouchWiz, but I thought this was a problem with system. Now my phone is charging really quickly (40% in 15 min) and discharging in about 4 h of using. I tried calibrating the battery by charging it to 100%, then I restarted my phone to check is it alright and it was, so i calibrated it with a Battery Calibration app from Google Play. Then I used Fast Discharge (as recommended) and I checked to use processor. After 5% of battery (95%) my phones screen turned white, there were weird sounds (like old TV without signal) and then it restarted. Battery was 25%. Now I'm charging it again, unfortunately it's again charging so quick.
Is it a problem with my phone or battery? My phone still on warranty, so I can make full fix from this forum and give it to Samsung.
2) I also have a problem with speaker. When using my phone I can hear weird sounds from it (like above - like old TV without signal). What to do? Can You help me?
Please, help me

Check if you have a swollen battery
try a replacement battery, the weird sounds and screen issues could be from the battery not supplying enough current/voltage to the phone, hence also an issue why it cant calibrate well
