The Sims Freeplay - TouchPad General

I keep getting Error 5002 when I try to play The Sims Freeplay under Schizoid Android on the Touchpad. When I google and search around for the answer to this problem is relates to the DPI settings, but I've tried on both 120 and 160 build.props and I keep getting the error.
Any troubleshooting methods, advice, guidance, help, fixes appreciated.

It took me a while, but I managed to get it running on my system a few days ago. Maybe this method will work for you too.
I'm using a rooted Nexus 7 loaded with the latest (5-12-'13) AOKP JB 4.2.2 and franco.Kernel r61.
My device is using the "Phone-UI" where the soft-buttons move to the right side of the screen instead
of staying at the bottom when changing orientation.
Since I thought it had to do with a non-supported screen resolution, I installed the XposedFramework
with the AppSettings module to modify the DPI settings for this game. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
But after reading this helpful link,
I tried to hide the soft-button bar. This did the trick for me, it started downloading the +/- 600mb content right away!
It seems during startup, it checks your available screen-estate. If it doesn't match a certain
resolution or aspect-ratio (I'm guessing the later), it will bail out with a #5002 error.
If I hide the button-bar, the game will start without a hitch and runs very smoothly.
So my advise is, try hiding the bottom-bar with some utility from the Play store (try searching on "hide bottom bar" f.i.).
If you're using AOKP or something similar, you might be able to enable the shortcuts (to back and home) on the power-menu
and hide/show the bar from there.
Good luck!
Very bad service of EA to just tell us the device isn't supported, while other top games do run perfectly (like NFS:MW).
Both their developers and services are lacking... They should have figured this out very early after releasing the game,
or at least when Jelly Bean got released.

adfree doesnt work on urukdroid

hi there all
installed and reinstalled urukdroid 1.6rc4 on my A70IT (plus gapps through arctools). there seems to be several issues which i came across
adfree doesnt work - say something like: can't find partition to remount - any ideas anyone?
also a very frustrating issue for me - trying to create a shortcut to a specific gmail label on the homescreen. this option is not available - not in any launcher i tried while it is on the stock archos rom when i boot into it. it's just doesn't show as an option when i long press on homesceen -> select shortcuts from menu - and 'gmail label' is not there... again, any ideas?
also this is a weird one - there seems to be issue with the screen - one example when i turn the tablet the home screen is allways in an off position - like 5 percent left as it is if you were to slide the homescreen to left and stopped your finger 5 percent into the slide... another example is an app ( a kids game called kids connect) - it runs as if it is zoomed in or as if it runs on a little bit higher res than the real screen is and so some of the image is lost at the edges...
anyone seen this before?

1. adfree: never worked propper on UD as far as i know (at least not since I use it) - use another app - "adaway" is opensource and does the same, wokred fine for me
2. gmail: sry no idea but reinstalling...
3. launcher (5%): I also had it - but im not sure how i fixed it - it just went away some day - propably I reinstalled launcher or tried another one (try both, i dont have it atm on RC4 and VTL1.6.5)
4. sounds like a bug of the app (some apps dont display propper on any resolution - did u try it on your phone if u got anandroid?)
Next time use - general or app/theme forum - as non of this is development related - just apps...
If u feel some problem might be caused by UD or the latest UD RC update feel free to post any bug in the related Dev thread... (but it seems non of your problems are - as u dont provide before/after informations)

...just one word about ad blocking:
As you know the filesystem in UrukDroid is mounted r/w.
So the easiest way to block advertising would be, overwrite your hosts file manually.
See:
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?hostformat=hosts
This is simply what most adfree apps do... they overwrite your hosts file
Additionally there's endless discussion on this topic, here at XDA-developers.

[Q] Changed screen density - sense errors

I just got my One X+ yesterday.
Coming from a HD2 (Leo) this is a great leap forward! BUT: I need/want a lot of icons/text/pictures/... on my screen. (My hd2 used to be at 160dpi)
So; I rooted the One X+ and changed density to 240, which looks nice. I als installed ADW Launcher since a) I like it better and b) sense doesn't seem to work with other LCD density.
Now here's my problem: although I don't want/need sense anymore, it's off course still running in the background and is thus still producing quite a few error messages. ("HTC Sense was closed unexpectedly. ......"). Is there any way to solve this? I don't really mind Sense running in the background, but off course the error messages bother me a lot!
Can I a) block those errors somehow or b) get the 240dpi-look in another way than I got it now?
Thanks!
(also: I lost the htc flashlight app somehow and I can't install it back with the apk file (it just says: app not installed). any thoughts on that?)
I am running 250 dpi with go launcher. I don't have any sense related errors. where are you getting errors?
For reference: the errors occured just after bootup (after dialing pincode, two or three errors). Then, when I went into ES File explorer, or when I went to settings (every settings page concerning sense, like display settings etc...). Two subsequent (identical) errors.
Also, after restart, android didn't seem to remember my launcher app-preference, so I got the "Complete action using.." error. Chose "ADW Launcher EX" and tapped "always use". It remained ok untill next restart, so it didn't really bother me... Strange thing: when I chose Sense and tapped "always use" it DID remember after reboot....
Now, I first did a factory reset: nothing changed, same errors.
Then I reread your post, dashingdon, and thought: let's try some stuff...
I set the dpi to 250: no win...
I set the dpi back to 320, deleted ADW, rebooted, installed Go Launcher, set to 240 dpi: no win...
I then set the dpi to 250 and voilĂ : this seems to work! (need to fiddle a little more, but after 5 restarts I yet have to get my first error) I now hope play store won't mind the new lcd density...
Thank you for your help!
to all others: If you would know another solution, I'd still like to hear, since I like ADW better...

If play store starts giving you incompatibility issues , just uninstall the updates for "Play Store" , clear cache and let android re-install it. that should fix.

FYI: YouTube Full Screen and Blocked View Fix

Those of us who have had our TrueSmart have learned that while this thing is crazy cool, there are a few quirks that need to be worked out.
For example, the YouTube app's Full Screen. The TrueSmart has a square, not rectangle wide screen, so the Full Screen wouldn't be quite full.
With the Xposed Framework Installed, you can install a Mod called "App Settings" and find the YouTube app, then you can make DPI (resolution) changes and click "Force Orientation > Portrait Mode". Now when using YouTube, expanding to full screen will allow for a more 'dedicated viewing experience'.
There are some apps (found in the Play Store) that you can't access without accepting the ToS (Terms of Service), and the "accept" and "decline" buttons are below the screen. In this case, you'd need to change the DPI, and possibly more settings. I even also had the same SuperSU issues that quite a lot of us had: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656146 There are quite a few ways to fix the spillage.
Also, simply because I feel like saying something, why don't we have subsections for General, Q&A, Accessories, Development and such? meh :/

Thanks. If you want to make you post a [Guide] I'll add it to the Everything sticky.
Except for the rotation issue, qemu.sf.lcd_density=115 added to the build.prop also resolves the "fit" issue on almost every app as well and is the reason why I'm adding it back to the patch for all x201s.

I'll consider turning it into a guide. Friendly tip: It may have been a mistake but please try not to quote the entire long post, it takes up extra unneeded room, a @deedscreen mention in reply or partial quote works just fine. It can make things a bit hectic. (Ex: you have a long development thread and someone quotes the long post to say "this is cool".) Nevertheless, the guide is a good idea - now if we can only figure out how to get the status bar to always show when using -say- Nova launcher. My attempts haven't gone the greatest so far. :cyclops:
Hi Loki
Don't you just love when guys learns developers how to quote OP...
BTW - request is already sent to moderators for sections inside of Omate section.

It was before my first cup of coffee so blame it on the lack of caffeine.
The solution I've been using is Swipe Statusbar. It's not ideal but does free up the space a consistent status bar would use. A permanent status bar fix is going to most likely require the framework and related files be gone through and redone as they use a show intent versus a hide intent from what I've been told.
I do use my ppi edit and Force Orientation on my daily device. Hopefully I can make the need for the orientation lock unnecessary and have it active at all times for all apps. That would cover the majority of users and apps used and can't remember the last time I wanted an app to rotate on the x201.
I know what you mean, with that app I've tried and it covers some areas of apps and drives me insane, I can't quite win...

[Q] Themer not registering touches reliably.

Im running Themer on my Moto X (stock) and sometimes it takes several attempts for a touch to register to open a given module. (Favorites, camers, etc.)
Sometimes it works ok, but sometimes the screen seems unresponsive to touch. I had it show touches in dev options but even 'direct hits' don't register and open whatever the icon is supposed to open. This seems to occur across themes. I do have widgets locked.
Am I missing something here or is this normal?

Hi,
Try uninstalling Themer - delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it if you saved any themes) - then reinstall Themer.
Let us know if that helps!
I have the same problem, both before and after doing what is suggested above. The pretty themes with really small or really close selections are the worst at it.
Thank you for responding, I'll give that a try. Though it is possible that with some themes with small target zones may contribute to the issue.
Thank you!

Could you give us an example? We could try increasing these areas for selection.
Shades of green and coordinate are two perfect examples. I'm using a rooted Nexus 5 running droid Kang. Beautiful themes, but even with the screen showing presses I can be pressing right on something and it doesn't pick it up.

Thanks for the heads up, will speak to the developers and see what they can do.
I experience the same problem on my Note II running PA.
Is there an official place to request features
Same thing, doesn't seem dependent on theme (happens across all themes I've tried), T-Mo Galaxy Note 3 running stock 4.4.2 (unrooted)
It's hit & miss, sometimes everything works, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 presses before it registers. Seems to be memory related because it generally only happens when returning to the home screen after leaving another app that uses a significant portion of RAM, though I do not have actual evidence of this.

I believe this will solve the non-registering touches.
I don't think it's grid/sensitivity related, I really think it's the RAM issue.

On my device it appears to be related to adding the dock feature or persistent search box. Adding either appears to cause the problem and then removing them causes the problem to be alleviated. I ran up my RAM usage to near 90% without any problems (without the dock or search).
Another bug I would love to see fixed is Themer retaining the dock and search features when applying a new theme. It is annoying having to reconfigure the options and add everything back to the dock each time.
Edit:
I'm going to add my feature requests/changes here since I can't find a specific thread for it.
App drawer:
Horizontal or vertical scroll options perhaps with a paginated option for both
Allow Themer icon to be swapped for the play store icon
Allow for the removal of the tabs at the top entirely
Launcher screens:
Allow custom smart categories and/or folders to be used by widgets (maybe the news icon could open a folder or category I've created to show all my news apps instead of launching the themer news app only)
Allow reordering of home screens (perhaps even allow adding multiple themes at one time next to each other)
Retain custom added home screen folders and icons when changing themes
Give end user access to icons used by the theme so when customizing an icon I can use one built into my theme (I like the dialer in my dock but I would love to use my theme's dialer icon instead of the default android one)
As mentioned above:
Retain dock and persistent search options between themes but also allow themes to better resize when those options are selected (some themes get cut off slightly or the aspect ratio gets out of whack)
Hopefully that doesn't sound too demanding. I'm just trying to help make an awesome concept better

Agreed (Bold), I would like the notification bar auto-hide to stay selected when I change themes. However, because each theme requires a different configuration to work/look properly, this might not be ideal.
For me, the problem only happens when the launcher is trying to "catch up". This indicates a memory issue IMO. Anytime the launcher is fully loaded and I'm on the main home screen(s), I do not experience any issues registering touch.
Perhaps that is the problem then. I don't use Themer as a daily driver just yet because there are a few thing I need sorted out first. The touch issue in this thread being one of them. Folder/custom smart categories, mentioned in my edit above, are another.
This also happens when I use the gesture system(Swiping up/down). Personally this is the least fluid launcher I have ever used, sad seeing that its my favorite.
I know themer is still beta but this problem has been happening for a long time now.
On the gestures, I agree there is definitely an issue.
When attempting to do the "two fingers down" or "two fingers up", it generally triggers the "pinch in" gesture. This is the only launcher I have experienced this problem with. It's not make-or-break as I know it's beta, but accurate gestures are very important to me with the way I use my phone.
I expect these will get fine tuned before they transition out of beta
I'll have to rescind my former statement(s). I did more testing
There are definitely issues with touch not registering on some themes. As I tried more and more themes, I started to see it more and more. And it's bad. 2-3 times minimum to get the touches to register, especially on the Tron looking theme (I forget it's name). There are many more themes with this issue as well, and it appears over time the more cache/data stored in the MyColorScreen folder, the less responsive the launcher becomes. It got to the point of being unusable until I uninstalled, deleted the folder and reinstalled.
This, coupled with the intense RAM usage and pretty aggressive battery drain (10-12% daily, minimum) and I have to hold off on using Themer for now.
I'm not against sacrificing one or two minor things, but to sacrifice device response + RAM + Battery is too much just to use Themer. I will wait and watch and as improvements are made I will reinstall and retry.

Hi,
Could you possibly provide us with some more details? What device/Android version/ROM are you using?
Also, which themes are doing this?
T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3, running stock 4.4.2, unrooted. For Theme specifics, I will have to reinstall and test for a few days. I will get back to you.

Is there *ANY* A11/A12 way to hide/free the status bar space?

Hi,
I got a used OnePlus 7T Pro, because it was a better choice for me in many ways than new phones. I just absolutely love the screen.
But I was trying to find out, how to make actually everything fully use it. Afaik there used to be a way on A10, that is no longer working.
So I searched the whole week how to hide the status bar, and in the end decided to even root and try various Magisk modules, or EdXposed/GravityBox stuff, pretty much anything I could find because many people reported "status bar height = 0" to do the job. But it really doesn't.
It allows to hide the *contents* of the status bar, BUT the space there is still covered by an ugly bar that apps (browser, whatsapp, anything) aren't drawing over. And that looks even worse than having clock+battery present honestly :'(
So I am desperately trying to search for ANY way to accomplish a fullscreen experience. Does anyone know of one?
I actually like the stock OxygenOS personally. But at this point, I'm willing to hop on any good quality custom rom that would allow it.
(I am even considering somehow downgrading to A10, but would absolutely prefer not to).
I can't believe people here aren't all over this / that everyone with 7/7T pro didn't already do everything in their power to accomplish a full system-wide fullscreen experience. So, desperately pleading anyone, is there some Rom/Mod/Module allowing this?
Thanks
Oh, one additional thing: I noticed, that when changing the option under
Settings -> Developer -> Display Cutout
The status bar (and the reserved space around it) actually does change and move up/down for various options. The "Waterfall Cutout" makes the bar significantly narrower, and apps are properly respecting it (= being drawn a bit higher) too. Which gives me some hope.
There is an installable Magisk module called "None Display Cutout" from here:
[Remove display cutout][ROOT] Full screen 21:9 for apps in landscape, incl Netflix.

These just don't try to accomplish complete status bar disappearance, but they touch on the "Display Cutout" settings in some way. So they *could... maybe* be modified to make the status bar completely disappear? Since they alter the overall display bounds even on Android 11 successfully.
Honestly, those 2 are the most promising directions I stumbled upon, but I personally don't know how to modify them to do what I want (= shrink the whole status bar area to 0 pretty much)

I too am desperately looking everywhere having hidden the status bar for years and can't find any way to hide it anymore did you find anything that works? i'm rooted with magisk
I am sorry to say that I gave up. If you have energy to be dealing with this still and manage to find a good solution, pls ping me, but otherwise I'm now in peace with not being able to get rid of it Wish I could help but I tried for some time and just didn't find anything fully working.
Fullscreen immersive app can do this and I think Apex launcher can hide this too
I was aiming for getting rid of the status bar everywhere, in photos, twitter, maps, browser etc, not just homescreen (Apex).
And any "immersive apps" that sort-of work only manage to hide the time+notifs+battery from the status bar, but actually retaining the status bar itself :'(( Aka, any app starts drawing only under the area where the status bar always is. So I don't see the battery+time there, but I see an empty space - at that point it's just better to have the time there as normal, it just looks bad when simply empty :-|
Afaik the "immersive app" only work "properly" on the older android versions that support immersive mode, which newer androids don't (((

androplus wrote a magisk module that hides the status bar in MIUI. I'm not sure if it will work on other devices or not but it works on my Mix Fold 2. definitely worth trying. search the mix fold 2 forum for the link
I own OnePlus 7 Pro and I spent 2 months trying to find the solution. Status bar... I hate it too. So... it will be hit or miss for every app, but (for example Google photos is crashing with it) ... If your phone is rooted and you have installed Magisk:
Download and install LSPosed Framework modul (Zygisk version should be better)
In LSPosed Framework->Repository->Search->App Settings Reborn and enable it.
In App Settings Reborn choose any app you wanna tweak to eliminate Status Bar and then click on the wheel at bottom right corner. Now, you will have to go app after app to tweak it. Choose one and enable tweaking at left top corner. These three options are your new friends: auto hide fullscreen, no title and fullscreen.
Just don't be me... don't forget to stop app you are tweaking or it will not work immediately and don't forget to save the settings you chose by clicking on that floppy disk. And as I wrote earlier, some apps will behave weird and some will crash. Have fun.
