Are ads in apps safe? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Needed a flashlight and a notepad app for my Nexus. Tried various ones and they all came with ads. Accidentally clicked an ad on Inkpad, started up Google Play.
Are ads safe or not? My phone 'clean', if you will still? I run avast!.
Also, Inkpad asked me for my Google ID. It came up with my Gmail account, but I didn't enter my password. Why did it was my Google ID? My account isn't compromised is it?
Also, to save me making another thread. I updated to 4.2.2. After the upgrade, when my phone rebooted I tried to login to my SIM. 'SIM Unlocking' appeared and I couldn't get past it. I had to reboot. The update would have fully installed yeah? Nothing needed to be done after I entered my SIM PIN?

Yes the adds are fine if you acsedently click a link and are worried press the home button then clear it with the multi task button .
Also some apps need your Google I'd to sync but if your not sure read through some reviews of the app In the play store.
And the update would be done even if you did not enter your sim pin.

Can't download paid apps i receive Error 403 Android market.

Hi!
I purchased Tasker android app on the android market 7th march. When i try to download that app i receive "Error Takser could not be downloaded due to and error. (403)". My bank confirm Google charged, but i can't download it. If i visit android market using web browser i can see i already purchased it. If i clear cache data on "Play store" app its not work? Are there any solution?
Why don't you contact the developer with your order number and see if he can help
Email google about this issue.
I'm having this issue with all my Android Devices....this is apparently a problem with google. I've been in contact with them and they said their were issues with teh conversion to Google Play. I've been dealing with this for 2 weeks and have access to free apps, but I can't buy any. I've been forced to purchase apps from the Amazon Appstore. Google apparently doesn't want my money....I've been sending emails to google and the developers of the apps I purchased (Scrubs and Cut the Rope: Experiments) and have had literally NO correspondence from google or the the developers. This sucks, as I just got my Prime and Picked up a Used A100, now Google is screwing me....Just some bad news...considering that it's been 2 weeks since this issue cropped up for me and the fact that Google (and it appears the developers) are ignoring my emails, I'm going to assume two things, Google doesn't care, suggesting you start a new google account and re-buying your apps, or it's a known issue and they just don't want to deal with us right now....I just want a straight answer....It could be months before this is fixed....I recommend emailing google ASAP.
I have the same issue. Galaxy S2.
I downloaded an application ($20) from a forum to test it before purchasing, now after uninstalling it, it says i've already purchased it!
So i go to click INSTALL (no Buy button) in the Market (Google Play) and it says error 403 or something..
I thought I would be smart and download the AppBrain appstore. Well the STUPID thing is there is no reason to ever use this, as it just opens up the Market and wants me to install again without buying!
I tried to do the same thing with the Amazon app store, but they too divert you back to the Market app (market:// I assume)
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can "reset" or make the market think I haven't purchased this Application, and be able to purchase it legitimately and support the developer and receive frequent updates form the developer????
Thank you very very much!
Don't worry dude, every android users are facing the same issue all over the world. It is the Google's side that is having issues.
My google play have your issue intermediately few days ago.
I've had the same problem so I decided to use Wifi from home. I found that by using my home wifi that I was able to update. I know this doesn't help the problem if you are not connected to wifi but if you are at home - it might help

Just started getting this error again. Anyone else? Tried clearing store cache, dalvik-cache and google framework cache. Still gives a 403 error when attempting to download a paid app.
I just did a factory reset on my phone, and all my apps, free and paid installed no problem.. except Smart Keyboard Pro. It showed "purchased", I clicked it and told it to install (from the PC), and that was over an hour ago. I have restarted, and it still wont download, i get the 403 error each time..
I'm open for ideas...

Sometimes if you don't purchase the app from google it will say purchased but won't let you download it.
Thanks!

Your suggestion works perfectly! Unfortunately, it is requiring me to repurchase an app I've already paid for and I don't want to repay. I know, I know $2.99 is not going to break the bank; but it's kinda the principle. No worries, if I don't find an alternative solution I will be forking over the cash.
So I have had this ongoing issue as well for over 9 months. Tech support was a joke, like some of you have figured out.
Somehow, with no intervention from me, the problem fixed itself both on the website and the device. Not sure what happened, but im happy it did. I was fairly close to cutting all ties to google services over this, guess I dont have to now.
Here appslova.com have compiled solutions to fix error 403:
Method 1: The most common fix for most Android market or Google Play related errors.
Go to system settings>> Accounts>>Google>>remove your Gmail account
Now from settings>>Apps>>All> Force stop, Clear data and cache for Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager (like in method 1)
Now again go to settings>> Accounts>>Google>>Add your gmail account
Restart your android and then accept all the Google terms and setup Google settings
Rerun Google Play Store and update or install your app.
Method 2-Clearing Proxy:
Go to settings>>Wireless and Networks>>More>>Mobile Networks
APN (Access Point Name)>>MOWAP>>Edit
Select clear Proxy option
Try to re-run the installation in Google Play Store
Method 3-Router Proxy Settings:
Open your router configuration or settings panel (example- typing 192.168.1.1 on the browser brings up the router settings on my TP-Link router)
Now find your filter settings>>Uncheck Proxy
If that didn’t work also uncheck Cookies box from the filter settings
Now install your app from Google Play
Method 4- Alternative Google account
Create another Google account if you currently have only one account
Open Google Play Store>>Press Menu button>>Accounts>>select the alternative Gmail account
Now try installing the app
Method 5- Browser Fix: I found this solution on Phonebuff.com.
Go to play.google.com on your Computer’s web browser (preferably Google Chrome).
Sign into your Google account (by hitting the sign-in button at the top right).
Search for the app you wish to purchase and download.
Open the app’s page up by clicking the title link.
On the “install” or “purchase” button, right click and press “inspect element.”
Above the row that will be highlighted, you’ll see several lines of code. Locate the “data-ispurchased=”true” code (near the bottom of the paragraph).
Double click on the “true” in data-is purchased=”true” and change it to “false” then press enter on your keyboard.
Now click on “installed” or “purchased” to buy the app as you normally would
These methods might seem like a lot of work but hopefully one of these methods will solve the 403 error for your Android.

I take it is a pop up that gives you options to sign in or sign up? If so, sign in...
You might have not set up play store when setting up the phone and later just added gmail account. In that case you get that pop up since play store isn't configured yet... had that today on my old sgsl after a hard reset!
Hope that helps

Same here. But my problem is because of the country i live in. Google has blocked it or sth. Where do u live, roostaamir? Can anyone suggest a way around this? I've tried opening market ap by changing proxies from other countries. Didnt work though. I'm still with old android market btw, not google play fyi.

What country do you live in exactly?
If it's been blocked by Google then usually because there are trade sanctions against that country (Iran, North korea, ...) so helping you bypass them would probably be illegal.
Any VPN proxy should do, however.
Had the same problem with market. Deleting and re-creating device password, cause I use two-step authentication, solved the problem completely.
Because of alot of accounts having crosspaths, you should delete all google accounts and re enter them.

I am having the same issue...
I've -
- deleted cache - failed
- restored settings - failed
- reinstalled official rom - failed
I tried my account on another device and worked fine.
So, did google lock/ban my device??? Are there such cases???
ive cleared cache, cleared data, removed my accounts and reinstalled them, uninstalled updates for play store and used an old version and finally a complete factory reset and nothing works. it still says authentication required. Its so frustrating. i want modern warfare 4 so bad.

Can't Sign into Google account, and 'no connection' in play store!

I don't know what to do. At first my play store said no connection, so I signed out of my google account. After that, when I press the play store button it asks me to sign in, but when I do, it says "can't establish a reliable connection to the server."
My internet is fine, how do I fix this? I am lost.
Rooted? If so, have you tried to clean cache and reboot? That helped me once. If your not rooted try clearing app data thru settings. Then reboot.

I am rooted. Unfortunately I already tried to clear my cache on all my Google apps to no avail.

Have you had this problem with a specific ROM?
I'm running the stock touch wiz, if that's what you mean
Have you tried to change your network mode, then change it back. Also, turning airplane mode off/on?
I just tried turning airplane mode on them off again. And I tried connecting on both my home wifi and on 4g. No luck though.
I was looking around online and one site said that it could have to do with the time on my phone. When I look though the time is correct

Have you tried to uninstall the Google apps and re install?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I downloaded the Google play app again last night, but that didn't work. Should I do the same with all the Google apps, but un install them before downloading them again?
And I think Google play music still works for some reason. YouTube, Gmail and Google play are the ones that I'm having an issue with.
Edit:my play music still has all of my accounts stations
You might try removing your google account and re-adding it.
I am signed out of my account. When I go into settings and look at accounts, I am not signed into a Google account, and if I try to sign in I get the same screen I posted on the last page. I don't get how my play music is still signed in
Don't sign out, remove the account totally from settings.
I think it is completely removed. It prompts me to either add an existing account or a new one.
I made a video to show my problem. In the first part, I show clearing app data in the settings. Then I show what happens when I try to sign into google play or gmail. After that shows that youtube and chrome are signed in, and the same goes for google play music.
Afterwards I show how there is no google account signed in in the settings.

O well.. you got me. The only thing I would try next would be a factory reset.
How do I use titanium backup to restore my apps if I lose my root when I do a factory reset
I don't think you will loose root just by doing a factory reset. But, to make sure you can install a root keeper app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m9yZy5wcm9qZWN0dm9vZG9vLm90YXJvb3RrZWVwZXIiXQ.. to make sure.

[Q] Install CM9.1

So the screen on my S3 broke completely today!
Found my old Legend, and put in the simcard, and charged it.. All working fine, except for 1 thing.
I can't connect to my google account. Keeps saying that Username and Password doesn't match. BUT THEY DO.
So i can't even get my contacts from google or go to google store..
I was wandering if i could install CM9.1 on the phone, and possible get the google account working - and get the beneifts of a newer android version!
But when i look at the forum, i don't really see where to start :/
Can anyone guide me through, or link a guide, on how to go from stock Android 2.2 to CM9.1??
btw. im not a idiot with a computer, so it shouldnt be that hard - just dont know where to start..
Are you using two factor authentication? If so, you might need an app password to sign in.
There are some guides around the forum to root 2.2 stock, unfortunately I only kept the tools I needed to root éclair. If you can't find it, perhaps some other could chime in.

Yes i am using the two factor authentication.. But wouldn't the phone normally first ask for the standard password, and then afterwards the second?

Nope, that's only the case if you're signing in to Google via a browser.
Like...
On Chrome mobile...
When you sign-in to Yahoo through Google authentication...
Signing in to any Google site in a browser, like the one you're reading this from...
BUT, there are some cases where you do not use your Google account in a browser, so therefore Google cannot directly ask you for the second authentication, so in this case, you must use an app password:
Setting up Gmail through iOS settings...
Signing in to Google Apps via Microsoft Outlook...
Setting up an android device... <----------- This is what you're doing!
Go here:
https://www.google.com/accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens?hide_authsub=1
Create an app password, and underneath your Gmail account during account setup, put in that one-time use password in its place. Unless you change SIM cards, you won't ever be asked for that password again (and if you do, make a new app password) until you root and change ROMs.
For now, enjoy this!
Good luck with root!

Totally unresponsive Google Play Services

Hi all. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 on Lollipop 5.0.1. My phone has refused to connect to Google Play Services. I tried to add a Google account to my phone but couldn't. That was when I first noticed the issue. I cleared cache and even data of Google Play Services (and Google Services Framework) to no avail. I then went as far as to disable Google Play Services on my phone and then re-enabled it (according to the play store on the Web I've got the latest version). Still not working. And now I don't even have any google amount on the phone. Apps like Google Now and the Play Store don't don't even really open again.
Everything works fine on the Web (even using Chrome). When I try to add an account now, it recognises my email address and password (I deliberately tried a wrong combination and it was detected immediately) but gets stuck at the end of the process (pls see pic attached). What do I do?
On a separate note, I tried to do a factory reset but the phone just keeps displaying "shutting down" without actually shutting down (although I find some things like the phone time do get reseted). What do I do?
Finally, can't use Smart Lock anymore. The Smart Lock screen displays just the Smart Lock title up top. The screen proper remains blank. What do I do?
But by far my major problem is the Google account issue. Thanks.
Still can't post a pic here. The screen I get when trying to connect my Google account says "Can't sign in"
Can't establish a reliable connection to the server.
. . .
Have you ever been able to connect?
Are you doing this via WiFi or mobile connection?
If you log into Google on a computer and go to your security settings/list of trusted devices, is it there? If so how many times? Also do you have 2 factor authentication enabled?

Thanks for your response.
Firstly, yes. The issue started just last week. All was fine before then.
Mobile connection.
No two factor authentication. Google doesn't seem to list my country, so can't put in my phone number.
Did you manage to log into Google security and review the list of connected apps and the list for device activity?
Also what phone do you have? Are you rooted? Do you have a custom rom and did you install gapps yourself?
