i think if this is an official release and you dont root your phone, you garanty will not be voided

There's one way to know for sure - call the store/the carrier who sold you the phone and ask them.

Yeah, they'll go like "Yes, you are not rooted, but here's the thing, this phone is based on Brazil, what are you doing with a Spaniard ROM if you haven't tempered with it?"

I don't think warranty is void...you can always flash back the official ROM which will come for your country..
After the stock ROM is back, you shouldn't have any problems....Rooting/custom ROM usually voids warranty..
In India, many Samsung Customer care flash the updates via odin and not kies(mostly downloaded ROM from sammobile)...so you can claim the warranty for sure after you flash back the official stock ROM for your country via Odin...(Nor i think they'll know what firmware you had in your phone before putting that, they don't check every details and stuff, plus it was in the end stock)
Press Thanx if i helped..

i had this case. i had a htc desire from t-mobile. i flashed a stock ruu without branding. then i need to bring it to the t-mobile store, because gps doesnt work pretty (right from the beginning). i didn't find a german t-mobile stock ruu (im from germany) so i took a stock t-mobile ruu from uk.
and there were no problems with the garanty and i get a new phone. so why u attack me ?

Any other shop will tell you that you've flashed it hence warranty voided.

You can't assume that all the service centers work this way.
HTC service center and Samsung have different hardware, technicians and work procedures. If one techniciad didn't care what software was on the phone, it doesn't mean that all technicians work this way.

Imagine you buy a Big Mac in germany, you save it for later.
You travel to the netherlands and you remember that you saved a BM for a snack. You're half way thru and you notice that there isn't any ketchup in it, so you go to Mc D's and ask them to give you another one. They check the ticket and they say "Sorry Sir, we're not responsable for hamburgers made in germany, go back to your country and ask them to deal with it".

[Q] Root a contract SGSII?

Hi there.
I'm sort of itching to root my Galaxy S II, but I am reluctant in doing so because for the first time, I have this phone on contract from o2. Not to mention the rooting process looks more complicated than other phones I have rooted in the past (T-Mobile Pulse and ZTE Blade). I'm not too sure on installing a custom rom as the stock rom is fine, at least until CM and/or MIUI is availble for stable use.
Can anyone suggest a safe and easy way of doing this please? Much appreciated!

I bought it on friday, by saturday mornning it was rooted w/o problems, I just installed Chainfire rooted Kernel via Odin, took me like 3 mins, after that installed Cognition
Alright then. I reckon if I sit down and read it through properly, I can root it easy enough. Though the thing I am worried about is the fact I'm on contract with my phone, with no insurance. So could this void my warranty? And is there any way of ****ing it up and bricking the phone?
Just checking

Yes its very very very slightly possible to brick a phone but recoverable .
Warranty Root or Stock Rom = no warranty. You would need to resore a stock firmware and clear the rom counter .

No worries mate. Obviously you still need to return it to stock state if you need to send it back to your provider for repair, but it's your phone now
The way it works with a contract is the phone is a gift as an inducement to take out the contract . Saves the network responsibility for two year warranty on phone .

[Q] Going back to stock..EVERYTHING

I have a Galaxy s2 with BELL that's rooted, custom kernel and custom ROM and im wondering how I can put my phone EXACTLY how it was before I rooted and put my custom rom on it.
I want it exactly how it came when I got it from BELL.
If anyone can help that'd be appreciated.
Thanks,
Well you can get it back to stock, but not "bell stock." The reason being that there is no bell firmware anywhere on the internet yet, you can flash one of the generic european rom from samsung but unfortunately you cannot revert to the bell KG2 that came with the phone...
Awh man..
Whyy hasnt anyone ripped their own stock rom yet
Basically... when its available..IF its available. Would I be able to throw it on and get OTA upgrades again? I really dont see a difference between stock and rooted.. I mean I DO understand what It gives you.. but honestly the phone is already powerful enough that I really dont need to tweak it.

I read somewhere that bell has to actually release a FW update before we have something to go back to, i don't think anyone ripping their rom would work for us. Then again I'm not sure, but as it stands theres literally nothing on the net with bell on it for the GS2 so you are pretty much stuck with the generic european stuff.
To be honest, i think if you want oTA updates you'd be much better off going with a generic european Fw, bell always always takes forever to deliver updates because it has to go through them, i remember it took a while for bell to get froyo on the GS1 when it had been out forever for the european gs1's and it worked fine.

Ah i see.. WELL THEN.
What Kernel and ROM are YOU using?
I bought a protection plan at bestbuy so hopefully i can bring it back and they'll give me a new one.. I liked the look and stability of my bell rom kernal etc right now i got villainrom running and it keeps going from hspa+ to 3g etc and its annoying...
Edit: seems to only happen when data is not being used. Makes sense. Battery saving feature maybe? When bell comes out with an update If they ever do, will it also include a kernel update? Making my phone completely bell again. I would like to have my bell account app back lol.

Im just using a rooted kernel off CFROOT, with stock bell KG2 Firmware. Haven't seen a reason to put any modded rom yet, the stock rom actually is perfect, good battery life too. Tempted by CM7 though, I'm constantly tempted to try it.
Hmm yeah when they release a rom you can flash using odin, it will write the kernel, modem etc and your phone will be totally "bell" again. I'm pretty sure you can download the bell account app from market?
Lol I was smart and used cwm to back up my bell rom, thanj god custom works perfectly well

So from your backed up bell rom, can you get the 3 files for Odin out of it? Or i guess its not that simple?
Surely if you root, you flash a non-stock kernel? So even a nandroid/CWM backup will not be COMPLETELY stock?
Why is everyone so worried about going back to stock? Just wondering, because the european versions work just as good as the stock one, if not better, because of root.
The real question we should be asking is will Bell or Samsung release the stock files? Im sure they will, and if they don't someone will find a way to extract the stock files.

[Q] I9100T Telecom NZ Branded how to save firmware

Hi all i have returned to the android scene from IOS trying to work out a means of downloadong the factory/carrier Firmwares i remember from when i had a i9000
It was possible to force kies to download the releasle from Samsung with the spoofer tool despite googling for two days straight and trwaling thru the forums i have not been.able to find a means or even of a download of the. firmware im wondering about
Galaxy S 2 running 2.3.3 gingerbread
PDA: I9100TDOKH1
PHONE: I9100TDOKG2
CSC: I9100TTNZKH1
Im presently dubious about attempting to attain root on this device if i cannot get kies to flash it back to stock rom or even.maintain a copy of this rom
any heads up or advice where to move forwards.
Im hoping the carrier soon releases the 2.3.4 update shortly... failing that i will just debrand with another 9100T rom
cheers any advice for the next move would be great!
I would suggest asking Intratech for it in his carrier-branded firmware thread in the development section. The Voda firmware is listed, so TCNZ's shouldn't be too hard for the man to track down.

Wow on further inspection... thats what i call a Awesome/Innovative Tool!
Nice work man!
I think it may come available soon
I think Telecom only released their branded handsets in the last 6 days.. so perhaps the Firmware will come available soon..
Failing that maybe the 2.3.4 update will be what comes available (if ever)
Perhaps a debrand is inorder...
It sounds like Telecom have fairly heavily modified the firmware which is going to make future updates very slow. By comparison Vodafone left it almost completely stock-standard.

Yes you should flash a stock ROM or AOSP ROM. Flashing doesn't void warranties these days. You can reset your download count using what's called a USB jig aka resistor, So when you break it you can just reflash a stock rom reset the download count an Samsung will never know any better.

I was going to root first so I could suck all the CSC , efs etc etc out of the phone

Was there a TNZ sub-folder inside the CSC folder?

Here's an email I received after asking Telecom if they supported it in July (originally posted on Geekzone):
Thank you for your email query and we apologise for the late response, as this needed to come from our network team. Please find their response below:
"No we currently do not have NCFD feature enabled. Because only the handset benefits from Fast Dormancy for battery life purposes. In fast dormancy the handset notifies the network to release the air interface so it’s put into IDLE state much quicker than going through to Cell-FACH and finally to Idle. This can cause much more signaling on the network between the RNC, NodeB and mobile device which (increase in signaling load) can lead to congestion.
We have a number of features on the network that can work with Fast Dormancy and not cause a large increase in signaling load, however there is no current ETA for deployment."
Should you require any further assistance please email or call 0800550120 or *120, we would be happy to assist.

Harvey

I've used many different modems (probably all of them to be honest), but am quite happy with the KI3 one at the moment. It's giving me no issues as far as XT's network goes, but I don't travel a lot so am not really a good judge. It does give me more range with Wifi though, something I have had issues with on other modems.
No idea on stock firmware. Has Intratech posted a link? He finds most of them.

[Q] i9305 unlocking

I'm looking to break my android cherry, having been an iOS user so excuse the noob questions. I have been looking to get a i9305 from Orange (UK). My question is if I get the phone from orange, have it unlocked but not rooted and use a sim card from another carrier like O2 or vodafone will I still get OTA updates as those network carriers don't even sell the i9305.
I'm probably going to go with T-Mobile as they have a good sim only deal at the moment but as only Orange sell the phone on payg, would a T-Mobile sim work without having to unlock the phone?
Lastly how easy is it to remove the stuff that network carriers put on the phone, simple a case of deleting apps or is that where rooting comes in?
If you unlocked it you would get orange branded updates, you can solve this by flashing an unbranded or O2 branded stock ROM.
And to debloat you need to be rooted because the carrier apps are installed on the system partition which is only accessible by the root user.
Also I would ask T-Mobile or Orange about the sim question because they are changing carrier to EE now so it may work if not just buy what you want and unlock it (or flash everything can be solved by flashing)
I take pleasure in welcoming you to the world of Android and hope you have a nice time being free from the shackles of a corporate entity.

Thanks for the info. Couple more noob questions. If I get the phone on orange, unlock it and use a t-mobile sim, flash it with for example and unbranded stock ROM, then which updates will I get or from who? Directly from Samsung?
Wouldn't flashing an unbranded ROM automatically remove the bloat and by that I mean the stuff Orange put on not the original bloat from Samsung if that makes sense. And for future updates should then install without any problems as it's a stock ROM not a custom one? Would a stock rom increase the flash counter? If so how can I reset it?
Where can I get an unbranded ROM for the i9305 from, if there even is one (Sammobile isn't showing a UK version yet), and do you know of a guide I can follow? I've got a old HTC, might try on that first just in case I end up bricking it.
Sorry about all the questions. Really appreciate the help.

Yes flashing an unbranded ROM will remove the bloatware and you will get updates from Samsung.
There is a PC application which can find stock ROMs direct from Samsung's servers called checkfus, search with that if a ROM exists it will find it.
And a stock ROM shouldn't increase the flash counter only custom you can use the triangle away app to reset it from chainfire.

[Q] "La'Fleur" ROM after emergency recovery with kies

Hello!
After flashing many custom ROMs and leaks my phone was acting a little funky, so I decided to go back to factory stock. I fired up kies on my pc and went to "Emergency recovery" It asked me for my serial number (I thought this was for getting the right stock firmware) After everything was done the phone booted up normally but I ended up with a "La'Fleur" boot logo
All I wanted was my stock firmware (Without having to look for the firmware, modem, etc myself) I though kies would do a better job than me :silly:
Sigh...
Any of you experienced this before?
Same problem here
Dont know how this happens...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Kies gives you the firmware that matches your serial number. So, your phone originally has this firmware, or an earlier version of it, i.e. your phone was branded.
If you don't like it get the latest unbranded firmware for your region from sammobile.com and flash with odin.

If you don't like it get the latest unbranded firmware for your region from sammobile.com and flash with odin.

Well it's suposed to work like that... but my phone is the plain gray international version. That's why it's so funny to me. I created this thread to see if some other people were having this issue as well and it seems so.
Anyway, it worked for me because it restored the stock modem and cleaned the whole nand. As soon as I saw that "La'Fleur" logo, I wiped it and threw CM 10.1 at it. Working great so far.
My point is, Samsung should do better (as usual, with everything) at keeping their records.
Well, none of us know what happend. Could be the carrier originally planned to carry this model, bought it from Samsung, and later changed their mind and sold it to a third party.
Nothing to show Samsung's records are wrong.

Well, I bought mine at a retail store, unlocked and without any carrier bloatware. Just to point out "La'Fleur" is a special edition of galaxy devices featuring a special 'floral' design paint coat, that Samsung released for valentines; with ROM customization to match the design. As with mine being the plain grey version and using the 'official' method to get the stock ROM, I think I'm pretty safe to say that there's something wrong going somewhere at Samsung.
This is exactly what I was trying to avoid downloading the firmware, modem, etc and flashing it myself, getting something different than the one that came when I first took it out of the box... And this is exactly what I got using Samsung's method. LOL
Kudos at Samsung! /s

Ah, got it. Still, never know where the mix up came from, but I am more clear about your issue.

After flashing is the answer .
The hdswver codes that are presented to Kies match that firmware release and that's what you get .

I got that too. Before you do anything to your phone, make sure yo do a Nandroid backup, also make a backup for your EFS partition as there is where your IMEI and radio paramaters are stored.
I had to send my phone to Samsung, and they replaced the motherboard.
Sorry to hear this happened to you

Sad to learn that I am not the only one. Mine is i9305, bought from Samsung's authorized retail shop, International edition grey. firmware changed to la fleur edition after emergency FW recovery. embarrassing to use it in front of others. Need to change lock screen. Has anyone tried to get help from Samsung? thanks
