[Q] Xperia P- battery issue. - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello XDA DEVELOPERS.
I am facing battery problem in xperia P. Xperia drains my fone's battery very fast (on average 10 hours if my usage is sending text mesage no wifi no BT no internet no call.) Is is normal?. I got a suggestion from SONY support that I should repair my phone. Now I have 2 questions? from which software should I repair my fone and last question: What will happen in case of power failure, network error or disconnection from PC? my fone is not rooted? Response will be appriciated. thanks.

Xperia P battery backup
i am also faceing the same issue. i installed latest FW ,75 it was very good innitially but after couple of weeks the battery backup got hit big time. i re-installed the FW 4 times (2 times with SUS and 2 times with PCC) with full format. OS and screen drains most of the battery with low screen-on time.
i have not rooted/modified any thing on the phone. pure sony stock.
Need Help.......

Guys. Is this your first smartphone? Wifi is switched on whole the time. This is completely normal. Battery graph looks stable. You can't expect more than this. For better battery, use cm9. Rooting is fun dude.

I used to get around 20 hrs of backup before I updated FW (with wifi on all the time).
I haven't installed any new app or changed the way I use my phone.
I am just comparing battery backup between two FWs.

Turn off the Auto Brightness mode and Delete the weather widget ( if ur using ) ...This will surely increase ur battery life a bit.. Root ur phones and apply some Battery tweaks ... This definetly gets u Better Battery life...

You're battery cycle is stable. Sony isn't really big with battery life. I was averaging about 20 hours before I rooted my phone. With root, I can squeeze about more or less 25 hours on average use - internet, messaging, phone calls, very light bit of gaming.
Turn off Wifi, Auto Sync, Bluetooth, GPS if you are not using it.
Do not use Auto Brightness.
Lessen screen timeout.
Don't use too many widgets.
Turn on Extended Standby Mode.
Don't fiddle around with your phone too much.
If all else fails, root your phone to install governors.

Then think about what's your priority. Being connected 24/7 or saving battery life?
Wifi, Auto Sync and Bluetooth eat up a lot of juice...

This is the only phone I had that drains more battery on WI-FI then on 3g ... Awfull battery life.

Rooting does not void your warranty, unlocking the bootloader does....
Install BetterBatteryStats after rooting and you can analyze whats draining ur battery....

To be honest I cant understand your problems with battery drain, maybe you just use the phone really hard, but with me Auto Brightness - Bright Mode and Extended Standby mode is fine... I don't believe in being conservative so i never disable anything, other than nfc and bluetooth which arent useful to me . The Xperia P has battery calibration issues though, sometimes i see my battery jump up like 5 percent, sometimes when i restart the phone by holding the power button and vol up i get 10 percent. But the battery really isnt that bad... If i leave my house with about 80 percent, im left with battery by the time i get home even if im out all day long. Maybe you guys should try not to use live wallpapers, they drain a lot. App killers, they're not needed and they can drain. I wont say dont use bright colourful wallpapers but be aware they use more battery, and any apps with a bright white theme uses more battery so if there is a darker option, try to go with that

It's a screen technology different from LCD, it uses LED lights to create colours, like a lot of the modern tv's do, but it's not nice in mobiles imo, it's what Samsung use

Extremely high battery drain in CM7

Hi there.
So I flashed Cyanogenmod7 to my Optimus One
I'm very happy with it, however, there's a problem
On official froyo and 2.3.3 official gingerbread, i had the data connection ON and wifi on,too. So whenever I left the house, it would switch to data. And it wasn't on 2g,it was on HSDPA. Anyway, the battery consumption was barely noticeable, especially in standby mode.
However, if i do the same thing now, on CM, the battery drain is enormous
Wifi does not consume a lot, but whenever it switches to mobile data, the battery consumption is 10% / HOUR in IDLE mode, using the Smartass governor 245-600MHz, making the phone useless. And this is the consumption in standby mode...when I use it it's a lot worse. This problem makes me unable to use the mobile internet without returning home with a dead phone.
Is there a fix for this? Does anyone have the same problem?
Yes, i have the latest version of CM7, for my model,p500. Is it because of the old baseband?
Thanks in advance for any help
i encountered this for the first few days when i flashed to CM7 too
battery drop so quickly even when its at standby mode for 8 straight hours.
but after using for weeks, the battery begun to last longer, can last up to 2 days with light usage (some texting and tweeting)
im getting minimum of 4 days battery on cm7 -.-
Try this
1. Charge your battery to 100 percent.
2. Reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Completely discharge the phone till the state it switches off.
4. Charge again.
Maybe it will help.

I have never understood how or why this should work. Maybe somebody could elaborate this a bit?

@OP: Which CM7 version? What kernel?
This is not usual.
I'm getting few days with CM7. Try calibrating the battery with Battery Calibrator from the market.
I already calibrated with the app from the Market
Charged to 100% ,Calibrated, discharged to 0%,then fully charged.
I did this twice.i dont think this is the problem.
I did a test :
Yesterday, when I first saw the problem,i had data enabled.I got 10 hours of battery life with the phone Idle (locked, yes.)
Today, i didn't enable data.I had 99% battery after 2 hours of idling. I guess that's normal.
So, i already know the problem. the data connection does this to the battery, but why?... as i said, when I was using the official froyo and gingerbread,i had both data and wifi enabled and i had absolutely no problem with battery drain...

This is called battery calibration.Whenever u flash a new rom,u need to calibrate ur battery so that it wont show u the stats of ur previous rom.If u dont wipe battery stats, sometimes the phone may switch off fue to low power at 15-20% or strange things like virtual increase in battery % by 2-3 %.So it is required to wipe battery stats,so after booting the phone,a new battery stats file is created and it wont give false info.

There's no need to completely discharge a Li-ion battery, it can in fact damage the battery.
Proper steps:
1. Charge your battery to 100 percent.
2. With phone still plugged in, reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Reboot phone
4. Wait for phone to completely boot up then unplug.
5. Calibration complete

I checked for apps that consume internet.I don't have any.Facebook would be one,but that's all.
I read something about the older versions (official ones) of the firmware using something called NETMGRD to reduce the battery drain caused by the APN being on..
what do you guys think about this?
And also, since you asked about the kernel :
2.6.32.42-franco.kernel.v18
Cyanogenmod 6.5.8
If i use 2g continously i get batrey lyf of 3.5 hrs..
Is this normal?

once when i checked my battery usage is saw something names MEDIA SERVER poping up!havent seen that before and i was having say 5%battery darin in 10 minutes with screen off and wifi connected n active!!so then i got droidwall and blocked everything except for ones that i needed like market, xda, browser etc!and i saw that thing named media server go down n my battery lasted longer..had about 1-2 %drain with 3g active and screen off!else it usually will be higher!

That's pretty outdated kernel. Flash a new one.
I get good battery life using the 2x Battery program that cuts off the 3G data when the screen is off and opens it at a set time (every 30 mins on mine) to check for email etc instead of constantly when the screen is off.
One of your major killers i see is the constant WiFi, with it and GPS if your not actively using them turn them off.
---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------
Forgot to add, the rule of thumb is anything that uses a hardware component uses battery power.
GPS
Wifi
Cell Radio (2g,3g,Phone)
Screen
Vibrate motor
Speaker
It takes power to make those work so the less you use some of them the longer the battery lasts.
Anyone that drives at night knows the effect of turning on the wipers, the radio, the lights and the blower fan on high to clear off the windshield and seeing the voltage gauge lowering from the heavy voltage draw.

Xperia Sola battery drop 5% per hour without use, is it normal?

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
My new Xperia Sola's battery drop 5% per hour without any use. 3G data is on, but background data is off (as i have started the power save mode).
Background running app only facebook and whatapps, is it normal that battery drop 5% per hour with screen off ?
Thanks!
doesnt matter if backdround data is off, facebook WILL try to update the timeline in the cycle you've set it to. so yea pretty normal to me as the sola doesnt have a huge battery.
Same problem here too!
Even if you don't use your phone still the battery drops almost at a constant rate of 4% to 6% and that is very annoying. Hoping Sony would fix this issue with their next OS update.
But sola users have an extreme advantage of fast charging. Sola charges itself about 12% in hardly 10mins. Thats the better part
Sent from my MT27i
Hey guys,
5% an hour is 20 hours. to me that is pretty dam good. i used to get about 16 - 18 out of my arc S. with everything on.
Your Data connection is a mega killer weather or not you have background data on or not. it is the connection to the tower that drains the battery.
my arc is now just a phone for work and without the 3g on I get over a week out of it.
we all need to remember that these phones are not like the old nokia's and stuff. modern phones need modern charging habits
Pvy.
You shoud deactivate LiveWare widgets and services because it consumes a huge amount of power. Sometimes I get even +48 hours of standby on my Xperia U.
Try this out! It worked for me!
Okay! I fiddled with my phone a bit to improve battery life and it did work!
Go to settings> Applications> running
check the applications using a lot of RAM and has been using the phones active state for long time. Delete those useless apps. Also apps which connect to the internet uselessly consume a lot of battery!
It worked for me! Now my phone discharges just about 2-3% in 6 hours. Its because earlier my phone wasnt going into deep sleep mode where it consumes the least battery!
Now its battery standby has boosted up a lot!.
I'm happy now!
Try and tell me whether it worked for you guys or not!
Yeah. Disable Bravia display, reduce brightness, switch off data and WiFi, kill useless running background apps, disable widgets. I lose 2% battery in 6 hours in standby mode. I do these before sleeping and its damn effective. Also root ur phone n install autokiller memory optimizer and set aggressive values. This enhances phone speed and also battery is improved

Auto brightness, turn it on. NFC, Bluetooth turn it off. I always suggest that users turn on extended standby mode but some people want their whatsapp or email to come through instantly all the time which I can understand but it's a real life saver for me, I personally don't have a massive issue with my battery, lasts a whole day, sometimes less if I use the phone heavily.

You could use clockwork recovery to erase the battery stats as well. I don't think you need root for it.
You charge to 100%, reboot into recovery erase battery stats, unplug and boot normal. After that you let it drain on its own until dead.
I've read that sometimes it worked after the second calibration or something but i believe it might be user error.
I erase the stats every time I flash a new rom. ...
I am now on 2.3.7. ... Maybe is better

Battery stats doesn't do anything: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
That is, it essentially holds the information displayed in the Settings > Battery screen. Nothing more, nothing less. Thus:
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.

I would advise you to update your phone to the latest firmware, it has better battery management... If you are rooted, you can try custom kernel like ThP or Sliding_XP and custom Rom based on stock... I used to get only 10-12 hours of battery life in 2.3.7 before rooting.. The steps I took to improve battery life are:
1) Root the phone, add init.d and build.prop tweaks or install a Rom that has tweaks like Brain_ICS or XPT's Vision Roms.
2) Use any custom kernel based on stock that are tweaked to give better performance and battery life, along with above Roms
3) Switch off WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC when not in use. Or better, use NFC tags to switch settings (like WiFi on only at home, Bluetooth on only in car)
4) Keep the brightness to the minimum setting when indoors and keep it in auto brightness when outdoors.
5) I live in an area which has better 2g coverage. In network settings, if you set the network mode to select only gsm, battery life vastly improves as there is no searching and switching for a 3g connection. Also I find that staying in 2g gives better network clarity. I shift to 3g when I require high speed browsing only.
6) I usually keep data connected with auto sync on and extended standby mode on. If you switch off extended standby off, you can last through the day but only if you reduce the amount of apps syncing and the polling time of each app. In my case, I have switched off syncing for Twitter, facebook, Google+ etc and sync only for Google contacts, calender and Gmail.
7) I also have automated the phone to switch to airplane mode from midnight to early morning.
By the time I get home from work, I have at least 40% battery remaining. On the whole, I get 22hours on average and I have got 1day 12 hours maximum from my Xperia P. And happy with my choice.

Forgot two things:
I keep all location services switched off and turn it on only when required. This prevents the Map app from unnecessarily polling for location and helps save battery.

Android jelly bean suck battery juice faster because of its f***** project butter (uses cpu and gpu at the same time). Now phone developer starts frustrated on android...hehe (from my speculation)
Android problem how?
Almost all smartphones last about 1 day. Don't blame the Operating System it's the same battery life in all smartphones. Blame the battery technology.

[Q] battery life.

Hey fellow dx users how is the battery backup of your device?
Mine seems to be pretty ****ed up.
It gives me only four five hours. On intense WiFi usage.

I guess thats one of the causes give juice defender a try
I have my WiFi turned on 24/7 checking 2 mail accounts + facebook and google+ and you can see the stats below. I heard a good feedback about juice defender too :fingers-crossed:

Actually. I played games and whatsapp, also installed many apps. Watched music videos on YouTube.
Gives 4-6 hours only.
And yes, I installed juice defender. Nice app, does not show a marginal difference though.
Thanks.
wow.thats how I dreamt of

My battery conditions is also very poor.It lasts for only 5 hours when I have turned off auto sync,internt,wifi,bluetooth,3g,lowest brightness.I played these fr 1 hour and 20 min phone call.Pathetic condition. Also the battery get heated up a lot..I am goin to try out the doubling the battery trick told ages ago in xda. if it fails,I am going to the service center,
Any one got better advices?
from Engadget
'As for the battery, with a 1,650mAh cell under the hood, and some potential savings to be made from the smaller screen, it managed a reasonable six hours and 33 minutes in our standard video rundown test (WiFi on, but not connected, and brightness fixed at 50 percent). In real-world use, we'd get well into the following day before we'd start getting nervous about finding a power point. If you're the sort that switches off overnight, then it might even last a full two days with moderate use.'
It's pretty strange. Without any WiFi or data activated, I get juice upto one and half a day max. With music gaming texting and taking few pictures.
I wonder how reviews stated the battery is good compared to other HTC devices.

Wow dude. How did your Des X screen usage only 19%????
Look at mine. Sometimes 59% and sometimes its 70+%!!! I'm confused. I'm using apex launcher pro with only only 3 homescreens and widgets. Frozen sense. I also set the brightness really low.
How did you do it?

I found the light sensor really useful - it's keeping the brightness low when the setting is on auto plus because of the proximity sensor while I'm talking the screen is off. I saw it just once spending 25% of energy after heavy gaming. I have setcpu installed which is helping the battery life while I'm not playing. See my current stats
btw I'm using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35436322&postcount=17 if that matters.

Our screen is not that small - how many hours your screen was on during this 70% drain? Mine was around 3 hours within last discharge cycle. My point is that if you have your screen on 5-6+ hours/day 70% drain could be reasonable its 4" screen with 1,650 mAh battery anyway...
LOL

U know why his screen use is low? Its because he has many other apps running
No matter what you do just add up all the battery use and you'll get 100%
SO for him his battery is being used up by wifi, phone idle, stanby and other things so yours is better
Hit thanks if i helped you

Most of the time I have SetCPU configured with 245MHz min - 600MHz max - when I'm expecting more performance e.g. when I'll play a heavy game or something I'm changing the max frequency to 1008 MHz. The JuiceDefender is configured to enable the WiFi every 5 mins while the phone is locked, and to stop all connections (including the mobile network) at night. Also I found that NOT using an auto-task killer the phone is acting faster and consuming less juice.
BTW whats the difference between the stock auto brightness and this Velis application?

4.1.1 Battery Life.

Can we get a consensus on whether battery life is better or worse, for those who have updated to Jelly Bean?
From my own experience, I'd say it's dramatically worse. After updating and using it for a week, I noticed the battery does drain a bit quicker than usual. And last night, i thought to myself, no big deal, I'll just factory reset, maybe that'd help.
Well, that was a bad move, strangely. After factory resetting and setting up my phone and apps, I noticed I had zapped 25% in just under 2 hours. No heavy WiFi usage either, just zipping around the phone setting preferences and just installing like 5 apps.
No such thing, battery performance depends on individual usage. I'd suggest using BetterBatteryStats to determine which apps may be causing wakelocks, and Greenify which hibernates apps of your choice to prevent them from running background services.
I'm not outright saying JB drains battery more than ICS, I'm saying it does for me, under the same usage. What I am wondering if others find JB has increased or decreased or not changed their battery life.
In my case, battery life has improved a lot. Using DX the same as before and now it lasts for 2 days where on ICS i was charging it every night.

Mine lasts only 9 hours while 2 days in ics.
Sent from a click on a button.
Improved battery life for me also. With moderate use two days nicely. Yesterday almost every hour some browsing and theming, all time wifi and after twenty hours still fifty percent. ( I have only a little number of background apps, like launcher, whatsapp and notification toggles)
Sent from my HTC Desire X
i get atleast 12 hours of usage no.matter what on jb i got a max of 21 hrs usage for me battery life has improved but by a minor scale nothing too impressive actually
however what i really appreciate is when it comes to gaming i ran nfs most wanted for 2 hrs and some other games for another 2 hrs still got 4 hrs of on screen time

In my opinion the battery life is preatty much the same. I think this difference may appears due to the apps installed.
Longer battery life for usage mainly text and social, plus light browsing.
Build it power saving is good enough. Can stand for two days.
For me there is no change in battery life. However, I'm new with my HTC desire x(one month), my usage time last maximum 4.5hrs if I use continuously, browsing, play store, etc. but if I use my phone more less, like picking call, once a day checking play store, I get usage time around 2 hrs. But the battery life in total including idle time, it's 2day. Not sure if its normal. Can anyone give me some tips or help?
Btw, my wifi is always on, but not using continuously. Disabled all auto sync. I want to keep in wifi for viber and whatsapp and my favourite HTC clock and weather widget. Do u think this wil drain my battery in idle mode?
I tried to switch off wifi while going to sleep night. Approx 8hours when wifi off, idle mode, only 1% was discharged from battery. Not bad for idle mode. But usage consumption is horrible. Just going through some app menu and setting, not applying any changes, within 4 minutes it takes 1% of battery power. Is this normal for everyone? I think this is called as poor battery life for desire x. Now if I play a game or chat, message it might be worse. My brightness was set to auto and most of the time I prefer to keep it zero brightness. Because the auto brightness is not going to its minimum level of brightness even in dark night situations.

it will but only minimal i got 8 hrs of on screen continous wifi usage so idle mode is no issue since you have already disabled auto sync...
auto sync is actually the battery hog in my perspective....

I have disabled quite a lot of bloatware apps I don't use social networking apps sound hound and I don't remember rest so I pretty much have 175 mb + ram I want for smooth gaming I played nfs asphalt 7 subway surf a lot got about 8 hrs battery life but was gaming like an hour on each game with some breaks to check on email and browsing but my battery life has always been great
I think your mobile is better than desire x then. Because its not about apps for me. Whenever the screen is on battery drains faster. Sometimes I only attend some calls and SMS, then battery stays 2 days but the usage time is 2 hours. If I use continuously, then I get max 4.5 hours.
