Camera quality on custom ROMs - HTC One X+

Hey everybody.
I've experienced it with my old HTC Vision before and now with my shiny new X+. The picture quality when shooting with a non-Sense ROM is just bad.
I am currently using the AOKP ROM and I really love everything about it - except for the camera.
Does anyone have a real solution to this? Seems to be a driver issue or something, different Apps from the Play store don't do anything.
Thanks,
Nik

My biggest problem with custom ROMs as well. With AOKP or CM I cant even attempt to use flash, white balance is off the charts ... And i cant turn it down enough to make decent pictures.
Its got something to do with proprietary htc stuff i believe. Dont know if a solution is possible.

[Q] Will installing a custom rom affect the quality of pictures/video recordings?

So, I'm thinking about rooting and installing a custom rom on my European Samsung Galaxy S II. But I've had some previous experiences regarding custom roms on my HTC Desire, whereas the quality of the still pictures and video recordings shot with the camera was drastically decreased. Still pictures looked horrible, and it was not possible to record video in 720 due to a huge amount of lag and stutter. This was the case with the three roms I flashed the HTC Desire with.
I'm not really educated on this subject, so I hope you guys can give me some information.
Will installing a custom rom affect the quality of still pictures/video recordings?
If so, what is the reason for this?

That doesn't happen on samsung phones at all, must be an htc thing.
If you care that much about camera quality, stick with Touchwiz ROMs. Flashing CM7 or MIUI will decrease the picture and video quality as they use AOSP apps which are worse than Samsung ones.
If you install a custom Samsung rom you should be fine but if you install cm7 or miui I've noticed the quality ain't as high

Okay, thanks. What is the reason for the decrease of quality?

I've used both cm7 and miui and both cameras are noticeably poorer than stock. I may be wrong but may be due to drivers or something as they are aosp based roms. But don't go by my word on reasoning. The pictures look fine on the phone but once you view them on a bigger screen you see the differences in quality.
When I get time I want to test various camera apps and compare them to stock using same conditions, don't think we have a thread like that.

Yeah, okay. I've been looking for threads like that, but I haven't found any. If you decide to go through with it, send me a PM with a link to the thread

Decent camera for AOSP?

Hey so I'm really a big fan of CMX, but I am far too spoiled by the Sense camera. Anyone know of ONE good camera app that can do burst the same way, supports the button the same way, and really is as much like the Sense one as possible?
Give this one a try.

the s3 camera can do burst mode, but it doesn't have the best image picker, it just saves them all.

I'll be looking info the s3 camera app. Only reason I'm using cm10 as my daily driver.

Where can I get the S3 camera? I've been looking but, knowing myself as well as I do, I probably looked right at it and didn't realize.

It's listed in the OP of either the paranoid Android thread or the codename android thread.

The s3 camera is nice. It only does a 5 pic burst and it's not a "press and hold the button" its a setting that you have to turn on when you wanna use it.
It's ok, but not even close to the sense camera which is unfortunate. Still love JB tho

Personally I really like the Sense Camera and it was difficult at first to even consider AOSP due to the amount of horrible camera apps out there. BUT... I do enjoy the S3 Camera. Yes it doesn't burst when you hold the capture button as Rippley05 said, but it will burst to 5, 10, 15, or 20 pics at a time depending on what you set it to. There is also issues with 1080p recording, but I hardly ever do video so that doesn't matter to me.
It has all the other functionality that the HTC app has. I also think it takes better night or dark lit photos with less banding and noise. I'm happy with the CM10 9/29 nightly and this app. It will take some time for sense to win me back.

[REQUEST] Port HTC Camera app

I love my htc one but never been a fan of anything besides android vanilla. I want to start using a stable cm10.1 as soon as it is ready, but I would really love to keep the camera app. I know its been done before, I had a nexus one and the camera for the desire was successfully ported. Can this even work without sense?

The HTC Camera app not only depends on Sense Framework, but also the custom imaging processor that HTC has built for the One. They have NOT open sourced this driver and won't.
Also, the camera would probably stink pretty bad on AOSP

[Q] Bounty Yes/No? AOSP or CM with HTC camera & gallery

I am thinking of starting a bounty for the following:
Latest AOSP or CM, stable, all features working-- LTE, 4g, calls, gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc. (the normal stuff)
HTC Zoe camera, and HTC Gallery (that stitches photos & zoes together to make the video)
Bounty expires 60 days after official posting unless a dev is active
I'd be willing to toss in $25 and maybe $50 if someone gets going and finds that it's a huge mountain to climb.
What do you folks think? Consumers like me, would you pitch in $10+ and actually pay up? Would this at all be legal considering that the HTC software is perhaps proprietary?
Thanks in advance.
The HTC camera on AOSP is never going to happen.
Your better off installing Nova launcher and a aosp theme and pretending it's CM if you want that.

Never going to happen
Flash an AOSP theme and use nova launcher and call it a day

Moved to Q&A
well i beg to differ even though I already know it may not be possible.
AFAIK, earlier build of MIUI had proprietary camera softwares of Samsung & HTC, even though they were based off their latest versions of Android then being maybe 4 ICS...
Also they were able to run proprietary SNote on MIUI. that means they were able to merge or independently run both MIUI and Samsung /HTC frameworks together?
right.
How come...
maybe they can help.
i just am voicing my thoughts and not any judgement or solution.

Paranoid android, cyanogenmod, ect camera for htc one

Is the camera quality in htc one (with cyanogenmod, paranoid android and other aosp roms) comparable to htc one without custom rom?
There's a thread somewhere in the international forum of a comparison. The Sense software just processes photos slightly better. Not a huge difference. Definitely have to try for yourself.

and the front facing speakers?
Are the front facing speakers good quality?
Just wait until the Google edition comes out and use that Rom. HTC is supposes to add beats and completely utilize the camera.

AOSP based still have a considerable amount of lag. I was trying to use CM at Lagoon yesterday and I was unable to take an decent pictures because of how slow it reacted. very common around the entire OS. Keypad, keyboard, lock/unlock, proximity sensor, etc... it's all very slow to react. Once you get some apps running, the entire OS gets jittery.
I would wait for Google Edition firmwares to drop and stick with Sense until then if you are worried about the camera in any way.
