Hey guys, I was trying to root my Note 2 and I ran into a problem. I used the method outlined in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207 which uses Odin to install the root66 Odin image. Everything went just fine and I used rootchecker to confirm root. Superuser was good to go. Next I went to install a recovery (CWM) so I could do a backup. I installed ROM manager from google play and installed a custom recovery. When I rebooted into recovery I got a message saying the phone had non authorized software on it and to take it to a verizon store. I did a little searching and found a thread that recommended using Odin to reflash the image. Did that. And got the same thing. Should I restore it to stock image as descriped a little further down in the thread (mentioned above)?
Follow instructions to restore with the LL4 update. Then unlock your boot loader next time before installing cwm.
Also next time post this in the right section (QA). Pretty sure you're not releasing anything. I went ahead and reported this to get it moved

Sorry about posting in the wrong area.
Anyhow, I'm a bit confused. Were exactly are the instructions to restore with the LL4 update?
I tried to restore per the instructions and Odin failed. Not sure what to do next.

I tried that but Odin doesn't recognize the alternate file. How do I flash it?

Extract it before trying to Odin. So right click and choose extract. If it didn't work download 7 zip and use it to extract the file
Sent from the dark on a Note 2
Ok, got it this time. I didn't realize I had to extract the alternate file first.
I was able to flash the correct file this time and the phone is back up and running.
Thanks a bunch for the help.......I majorly appreciate it!!

Tried to root and install TWRP on my i605 and all i get is this message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I rooted using Framaroot app.
Then installed GooManager and let it install TWRP recovery.
I did NOT unlock the bootloader, and this could be the problem.
I also tried adams' root/recovery steps and Odin says "Failed" each time. It fails in Odin when it's trying to restore "Recovery"
Can someone please tell me how to save my $700 phone???

I didn't use the "alternate" download b/c it says "Return to stock but keep an unlocked bootloader".
I did NOT unlock the bootloader before rooting/installing twrp or at any time.
I'll try using the "alternate" download file and see how that goes...still 18 minutes to download.
btw, thanks a ton for your help.
i'm so nervous i'm about to shat myself.
if this works...i smell a donating coming.

Ya it says that because it doesn't overwrite the boot loader, but the ll4 update blocks you from writing any boot loader. So you use that file and it restores everything except sboot.
You'll be good. This will fix your phone

ok...still waiting for download.
so you're saying to use the "alternate" download, NOT the "Download Me" or Mirror 1 or Mirror 2 files that are listed above the "alternate" download?

NEED some help here. I have a Galaxy S4 (Verizon)phone that I have Rooted successfully and the phone was running fine. I then decided to remove some of the bloatware that was on the phone and now I keep getting a message that com.process.gapps has stopped working consistently and Google play store no longer is working. It just starts to open and the closes. I have searched and many threads on how to fix it to no avail. I have tried going into settings-app manager, and force closed, disable/enable, delete cache and data. removed google account from phone then added, tried re install the gapps zip, still nothing. The back up was done using titanium backup pro and I still got the same message. So tried a factory reset three times and nothing. Unfortunately, when I did the first factory reset, I didn't save a backup(was thinking) and Titanium Backup and root file manager and stock file manager all was deleted so now I have no access to the system files either. I can't re-install from the play store because it keeps crashing. I tried using CWM and install recovering with odin 3.07 but it to then hangs on my computer. Please help what am I doing wrong. ME7
You CANNOT have a custom recovery like CWM if you are on ME7. Sounds like you need to flash back to stock factory ME7
I tried to no prevail. Factory reset erased titanium backup, root file explores, and other apps needed to complete flash, and with Play store not loading and handing on me, so I can get to root files. I can't download. I can't even download from chrome browser it hangs soon as download
I know you tried to factory reset but you need to flash a stock ME7 image using Odin. You need to put your phone in Download mode and then use Odin to flash a stock ME7 image on to it.
Check this guide out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259

Wow that all sounds strange. Are you positive you have the stock ME7 file? ODIN would crash if I tried flashing the wrong one. Are you running ODIN as Admin?

Hindsight being 20/20, you should have frozen the apps instead of deleting. Deleting them yields you no benefit beyond freezing and can lead to issues such as this.

So after checking to make sure I was flashing the correct file I found out that when I originally extracted the file it didn't extract completely only as a part.file for some reason. After downloading the zip file and extracting the file again, making sure it was a tar.md5 file and tried again with success. I able to open Google Play store. I also re-rooted my phone again successfully. SO thanks to everyone that help me out:laugh::laugh:

I was on the latest nightly of cyanogen mod and I wanted to flash back to stock using the toolkit/odin.
I downloaded the .tar.md5 file and followed the instructions, but when it reset at the end something must have went wrong because now it just keeps flashing Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen over and over.
Any tips on how to fix it?
I should add that I can boot into download mode, but not recovery

Don't use that toolkit. There is a file associated with it that has prerelease software and once is on your phone, there is nothing you can do to root or unlock. Only follow droidstyle's guide.

Well I figured out what I did wrong, and I derped hard.
Basically I just need to be able to turn my phone on again and I'll be able to do it no problem.
I forgot to add the .pit
Any idea how to get my phone functioning enough to try again?
Edit: on Odin everything seemed to check out. It said pass at the top, but now I am stuck in bootloop.
It does the Samsung thing, then the 4G LTE screen and keeps repeating.
Any ideas?
Yes I wiped the phone before flashing
Seems as if the problem has been solved. Thank you

I have never expected to see myself posting for help with my boot-looping S4, but here I am!
I had the Verizon Galaxy S IV on MJ7 running perfectly fine. I followed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981
I'm assuming I did not follow the directions and renamed framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak instead of overwriting the file directly. The phone crashed and is now stuck in a boot loop. I would be posting in that thread but being a new user, I am unable to. I have tried ADB and every other possible method, no avail. I did search the forums extensively!
When I do try ADB, I put my S4 into recovery mode and ADB update. The device appears but every time I try adb shell, the result is error: closed. I've been trying for hours and considering using the factory reset in the recovery because I can not find the stock Verizon MJ7 rom for ?flashing.
I am in dire need of help. The device was rooted and has SuperSu. I have removed all knox and mostly verizon bloat. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.
Edit:
I've found http://mirror41.downloadandroidrom..../roms/Android4.3/I545VRUEMJ7-Stock-Deodex.zip
Now that I have the file (still not sure if it is the correct one) I am trying to find out what in the world to do with it!

You are correct; I don't blame you for my mistakes. I was following the Alternate Method from your post but failed to follow the MOVE instruction. I'll just need to be more cautious when dealing with such delicate files. Maybe I'll give it another shot later on since now I know how to fix the mess I made.
I'm sure this has been asked before but I have no idea how to find the right thread, I've been searching but I'm not sure which method to use. I used towel root to root my S4 with NC5 build running 4.4.2 a while back and lately my phone has been randomly powering off. It shuts down instantly as if holding down the power button for 10 seconds. I'm not sure if this matters but I have xposed installed and before I found out about the locked bootloader I tried to install TWRP and CWP, so when I boot up it says custom. I want to factory reset the phone to hopefully solve this powering off problem, and I wanna be able to root again so I can put xposed back on. I have a laptop to use odin on if I need to. If someone could help me out it would be very much appreciated.

You want stock yes? Should just download Odin and the NC5 image. Place the NC5 in PDA if I remember correctly, been a while but should be. Once it is flashed you can then re root and do what not And yes I would do full wipe.

Yes I want stock NC5 so I can use towel root again. Sorry if these are stupid questions, this is my only experience with anything like this and I'm having trouble understanding.
So I should download Odin amd the full wipe NC5 image, unzip the image and place it in AP correct? But in the video he talks about drivers, do I need these and if so where do I get them? And in the thread under the directions for the full wipe step 3 says to extract the PIT file from your phone, do I need to do that?

We all start from somewhere :highfive: Yes, follow the instructions to the letter. Follow step 3 and you are golden. First Check to see if you already have drivers installed. Open Odin with your phone in download mode and plug it in. If Odin finds it then you already have the drivers if not windows may install them for you, if you are on 7 and up I know for sure. Had to use Odin a lot before with my old S4.
Well I finally figured it out. Nearly had a heart attack when I pushed the run button lol. Thank you guys so much for the help!

I did the full wipe via Odin to restore to NC5 and the only hiccup I'm having is that WiFi will not connect. I've done multiple reboots, too, just FYI.
Any suggestions, please?
