my pantech sky vega a760s got soft bricked
here's what happened:
-the phone won't open unless connected to pc
-when connected, it will only go to charging mode
-when i try to enter recovery mode, this shows up:
"your phone will restart due to error occurred while running application "
i cannot access recovery mode, the only thing i can access is the s/w upgrade mode, which i don't know how to use since i'm not korean
and i can't understand pantech's website.
also, when i enter in fastboot mode, all drivers are installed except for a driver named "Android" which is too general for me to manual search (inlcuded an image attachment of the failed driver)
How can I unbrick my phone?
PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

To go into Soft/Ware download mode
1. Turn of phone
2. Simultaneously press: VOLUME UP + MENU + POWER
3. S/W Upgrading will now flash on the screen
To upgrade firmware back to version 1.47, you first need to have the UniUSBdriver installed on your computer.
4. After you have installed the driver, test your phone’s connection to the computer to initially determine all the required drivers were installed properly (this is while your phone is in S/W download mode). But before doing this, make sure that you have activated USB DEBUGGING on your phone.
Code:
>settings
>applications
>development
>usb debugging (must be checked)
5. Using Microsoft Internet Explorer v8 or v9, proceed to this page:
-------------->>> dmfile.isky.co.kr/NewSelfUpgrade/index.html?userid=&hpno
Notice when that page opens, it will prompt you to install ACTIVE X. Allow that installation to proceed.
6. After ACTIVE X has been installed, notice on the left side there is a something like loading prompt. Wait until it gets into blue bar with arrow up phrase noting USB with some Korean characters. Then boot to S/W mode your phone and plug it to your compurer then click the blue bar with arrow up.
7. Clicking the Blue bar with arrow up will turn it into a progressing bar. Notice the characters on top of the progress bar may change and at this point there is communication between the phone and the Sky download site. It may take a few minutes for the phone to establish a download connection between Sky’s services. Once a connection is established, the characters above the progress bar will turn into a progressing percentage bar starting from 1% and ending into 100%.
There will be two phases of the progressing percentage bar. The first phase is downloading the software while the second is loading the v1.47 software into the phone. After the 2nd phase, the phone will automatically reboot. The first phase will depend who slow or fast your internet connection is.

1. Connect your phone in Fastboot, and when your pc asks for 'Android' drivers, you need to install PDAnet, just google to download it.
2. then to Fastboot, and Install Recovery SWM v6 either normal or touch
3. Then go to Recovery and Install new stock/custom rom from SdCard.
thats all. :fingers-crossed:

Hello Hacker!
I am Zahid Gill and a software engineer by profession. Websites are my speciality. I love android and Korean phones. I have bricked/ unbricked fixed and patched many phone before (but only with XDA's help ) many
While flashing Sky vega 760s it stuck on some point. I waited long enough but thenI had to remove it and.... it was bricked.
I was still able to go to recovery, fastboot and bootloader. I tried wiping /system and others but cwm was not able to.
I tried flashing with offline flasher tool again but it went into red screen on bootloader, like here:
http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/p206x206/26340_10200120329905648_1168156367_n.jpg
NOW, offline flashing stuck on 60%. I am unable to boot the phone in any other mode. Even putting on charging takes phone to this red s/w mode.
Are you able to help me with this? I shall be very thankful.
PS: I had stock ROM 4.1.2 originally updated with no custom tickling.
Did you find any solution
Hello I also stuck in same situation. My phone ima-760 got soft brick and red S/w upgrading only. Kindly help if any one has a solution.

I have the same problem but a lot of the answers are to re-install stock? Which part don't they understand...it's BRICKED ( and only shows the RED S/W Upgrading symbol) so it's impossible to Flash stock firmware in that state?
Related
Hi, because with last update increased count of people with bricket phone, I just tryed search for way how to repair this phone. It seems, that last possible way how to save your phone is emergency mode.
I would like to notify you, that I didn't tested it (I'm had not luck enough to brick my phone yet ). I just searched and tried write this for help to others.
So, let's go on.
1) If it's not possible connect to phone via ADB (in Adroid SDK/tools run "adb shell") at all you will try next steps. If it will work, you can use another, verified tools like custom recovery or KDZ_FW_UPD (search on forum for more) [HOWTO] Flash original firmware on P500, )
2) If you fail in previous step, you can try enter into emergency mode manually and try to flash ROM with KDZ_FW_UPD:
Download KDZ updater and uncompress it
http://www.4shared.com/file/UleS4dP3/KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.html
Install msxml.msi from the uncompressed directory
Charge your battery to almost full state (I'm not sure, but it can be reason if phone doesn't start)
Turn phone off somehow (remove battery etc.)
Install drivers properly
Get rid of all usb drivers like Nokia, microsoft visual ++ run time environments
Install the LG drivers by selecting the update manager from the lg site
Disable LGE Virtual Modem. In your Windows operating system, go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Modems > Right click on LGE Virtual Modem and click Disable.
Press and keep pressed "Volume up"+"Return" and connect USB cable to phone
Yellow screen with text emergency mode should appeared
Shake the handset (I know, it sounds ... strange, but it helps for ones, so... why don't try it?) UPDATE: Read some quotes on bottom.
Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe (Has administrator).
Select Type : 3GQCT (I have one report that CDMA mod works too)
Select PhoneMode : DIAG (in case of fail try EMERGENCY, and as last chance use CS_EMERGENCY)
I Recommend do not switch phone off. There was some people, which done it and after they were not be able to turn it on again. If flashing failed, just select some another mode and try it again, again, try shake/connect disconnect, again, again....
In KDZ file : Choose the ROM file you downloaded in the first step
Press Launch software update
Shake the handset (I know, it sounds ... strange, but it helps for ones, so... why don't try it?) UPDATE: Read some quotes on bottom.
Make sure that all update was done successfully. Phone should restart itself automatically
Disconnect the USB cable from the phone
Press the three button combo for HW reset of device i.e volume up + home + power button
List to do based on Zecanilis's [HOWTO] Flash original firmware on P500
3) Still no success? Wait for more "What I can do" or just go to LG and let repair on them.

Please let me know if it works. I just searched for way and I haven't possibility to test this steps for now. I will do update if it will be necessary, same as I will try describe more about software which I founded.
Some experiences from thread(s):
AVanover5: ...It works if you set the mode to CDMA and DIAG. Just to let people know. Not sure if it'd work without the recovery screen or not. I never tried it ironically, haha. Thank you guys.
geejay2: ...Bricking seems to be easily achieved by forgetting to disable the LG Modem driver. Apparently the modem driver interferes during flashing. Also I noted that kdz is not stable under Win2k, I switched to WinXP to flash successfully. I saw several aborted flashing attempts in WinXP with modem driver enabled.
domenic_s:KDZ_FW_UPD doesn't work (Application cannot start) -.- Using Windows 7 64bit version. //edit: allright tried another pc (win xp 32bit) and yeah - it worked... I'm so happy.

About shaking (sorry, but I still can't believe... )
salte_eskil:wow! shaking the phone really worked! seems kind of stupid but thanks to you all at the xda forum for tips and tricks
4wd vege: Now unbricked. Strangely kdz updater only saw my phone after shaking!!!
me2kimi:It sound crazy to shake the phone while at emergency mode. I's crazy but it magic. ...So what I do is connect to usb, Launch software update at kdz while shaking the phone. Then after that kdz is working like normal.

In meantimes the phone is in the service LG.. hope...
Exscuse me for my English
Did you had phone off before trying this? And also battery should be charged. I just added this things...
If event that it not show you emergency mode, LG service and warranty is probably the only way how to proceed. Sorry. But I will be searching if another way will exist...
Good work .. I hope that you will find a way to solve ... especially for other users .. good luck
Good work @The_ERROR.
It should work. I think you should also add that the phone mode should be set to Emergency (and not DIAG as mentioned) in the kdz updater.
Moved to development and stickied it for a while!
Thank you!

Good to know - do you know differences between CS_EMERGENCY and EMERGENCY?
Recovery Phone?!
Hello,
Had anyone tried "Recovery Phone" from the LGMobile Update app? It's under the "Customer Support" menu. Enter IMEI or S/N and see if it can bring it up to life.
Cheers.

Not really. Gathered some info though. We use emergency mode when the phone boots into only emergency mode else we try CS emergency as last option.
In any case this method will work only if the kdz updater recognises the phone.

I was able to do the KDZ, actually thats the only way possible. Please add this to the list:
1. Get rid of all usb drivers like Nokia, microsoft visual ++ run time environments.
2. Install the LG drivers by selecting the update manager from the lg site.
3. Disable the modem driver.
4. Once done, reboot the handset and when it has come to emergency mode connect it via USB.
5. Its going to detect it as usb drive. Launch KDZ. No need to go into Emergency mode.
6. shake the handset - IT DID WORKED FOR ME.
My suggestion don't give up. It took me around 14 hours to bring the handset back to original firmware and here I am today trying to boot the rom once again.
7. UPDATE AND ENJOY.

Thanks, I will do!! Only about 4 and five.
First reboot the handset and when it has come to emergency mode connect it via USB
and then
It's going to detect it as usb drive. Launch KDZ. No need to go into Emergency mode.
So, whats about if phone didn't go into emrgency itself (for example stuck on Android logo)?

I am talking about phone getting into Emergency mode, KDZ doesn't need to switch to CS_EMERGENCY or EMERGENCY Switch off the phone first, then you are either connect it to USB cable or you can remove it from the USB cable. Key combination to bring the phone only in emergency mode are:
1. Connected to USB cable, only thing visible is the LG logo, this is because its getting charged. Press VOL UP + BACK BUTTON
2. Not connected to USB cable and is not charging and so switched off: Press VOL UP + BACK BUTTON + POWER BUTTON
In both the cases phone will switch to a yellow screen showing: "Emergency mode!!" and will remain like that.
It's only in Emergency mode that the handset will be detected like a USB drive and can be KDZed.
I seriously doubt the "Shake your phone part". It just sounds so ...
Peace

OK, I edited it. But I kept possibilities of EMERGENCY and CS_EMERGENCY modes if standard way failed. About switch into emergency, I think that it does not matter which way for emergency is used.

Hello,
I've tried updating the Odys Genesis to the custom firmware cyanogenMod7 custom rom for odys genesis.
I think i did it the wrong way. I've searched for hours on the internet how to do it, and then i cam across a post that said i just needed to put it on the device and then android would pop up and say: "A new update is available" and i just would have to tap that. So, i did.
The device rebooted and started updating all kinds of stuff in a dos-like enviroment. But now it's only a black screen and saying ANDROID in white letters. I've kept it like that for an hour, and then i tried resetting it (behind the device, hard reset button). I see the Odys brand screen, but then it's back at the black screen with android on it again.
Is there any hope left? Can i do something to fix it?
I've tried searching for hours on the internet, and i came up with absolutly nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
I found out a little bit more:
- My problem is called a boot-loop. It seems like it anyway, i only see a tiny white text saying 'android'.
- I can't find anywhere on the internet if there's a recovery mode for the Odys Genesis.
- The device will turn on with any button-combination, except when i press menu+power or power+reset.
I have been looking at Odin, cause that should be a unbrick-program for android phones. But it seems you need specific firmware for your model. Can i just use the original firmware update from the website of the manufacturer?
Or am i just totally ****ed? Just a reaction alone would be appreciated !
Solution
And somebody can close this topic!
I'm extremely happy, cause by a little accident i discovered how i could flash back to the normal firmware.
For somebody who has the same problem, here my solution:
When the device is on the screen only saying android do the following:
- Press the hard reset button (on the back, the tiny hole) and the menu button at the same time.
- The android screen should now go away, and it should like the device is off (although it isn't).
- Plug in the usb cable and connect it to your pc.
- If you had your device previously plugged in to your pc before, the pc will falsly recognize it as 2 hdd's while there isn't any shown in this computer.
To fix that:
- Go to device manager (This computer (right click) -> properties -> device manager)
- Uninstall the falsly drivers, (so there is no driver anymore).
- Disconnect the usb cable and connect it again.
- Windows should now say (or say in device manager) that an unknown device is connected.
- Download the Pc Update Tool and original firmware from the manufacturer website: (can't post url's here, so google Odys Genesis and you will get there)
- At the driver installation window choose you would like to point where the drivers are.
- Choose the dir from the pc update tool, and choose the driver map according to your processor and windows.
- The device should now be installed as a RK2.... something device.
- Start the Pc Update Tool
- The first box below should be green, indicating it sees the device and is ready to flash.
- At the box image, choose the original image downloaded from Odys website.
- Click Upgrade.
All should work well now, the box (log) should keep you informed. It could take a little while.
When it's done, it will tell you in the window. The device should now restart and Boot recovery should start and the device, formatting everything, resetting again and then installing everything. It all could take some while, so be patient.
And that's it.... then everything is working again ! ~!
Please let me know where you downloaded the CM7 ROM from... can't get it from the link in other post
Thanks

I have the same issue, but I have a 64bit Win7 and it just won't work. Windows will not install the original drivers. Any other way to go around it?
I only need make a hard reset, any help??? I don't remember unlock code

Hi there,
I tried a number of ways to change the ROM on my phone from the stock to an upgraded or custom ROM. Using Odin I was always able to at least get the stock ROM back up and running.
This time I tried ClockWorkMod and something has gone wrong. I cannot turn the phone on, boot into recovery mode, or download mode and the phone is completely unresponsive. Nothing appears on the screen.
I've tried re-flashing the stock ROM through Odin and it will recognize that the phone is there and connected via USB however when I try to flash the stock ROM back onto it the program hangs at:
<1> Setup connection...
I'm running from Administrator on Windows 7, I don't have Kies installed, I have the most up to date Samsung USB drivers.
I really want to at least get the phone into download mode to flash the stock ROM back on... is really hope there is a way to do this.

just curious... how you try re-flashing through odin, while the phone can not boot in download mode?
when you charge the phone, does it show the battery indication?
I get no battery charge indicator while the phone is plugged in via usb...
However Odin does recognize that I have the phone plugged in. I hoped that this would be enough to send a flash to it through Odin but it gets stuck at '<1> Setup Connection'
I'm currently installing Android SDK. If the computer knows it's there maybe I can send a command to make it reboot into download mode?
you need to have kies to let odin work

Ok re-installed Kies and gave it a go.
While Kies was open I got:
<1> --- cannot open the usb serial port. code: 5
I'm assuming because Kies was trying to do something with it at the same time.
While Kies is not open I get:
<1> setup connection... (<Hangs here like before)
Installed android SDK.
Tried running: adb reboot download
Response was: error: device not found
Both Kies and Odin know that something is there, but the SDK doesn't seem like it knows it's there and doesn't look like it can send commands to it

first you needed to type adb devices
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
adb devices just brings up an empty list...
It says 'List of devices attached' and then nothing
I just really want to get it into download mode again, Odin and Kies know it's there to an extent but can't really do anything with it just yet...
Hiya!
Have exact same problem with my Ace...totally black but Odin find it. Then i stuck with that annoying "setup connection"
I connect my phone(or brick!!) with usb-cable, have no battery in it. Then i press vol down+home+power buttons and I think its in download mode. It´s just that I can´t see it becouse the screen is black.

Run
Code:
adb devices
And that will tell you if it is actually in download mode... it should list the device then the mode it is in on the right..
Most of the phones that couldnt boot into download mode were diagnosed as bricked, from what ive seen here in XDA, the SGA community.
However, you could spend a small penny on 3 100ohms resistors to create a USB jig as a last resort.
Try this :
-Put out battery
-Plug the usb cable pc - ace
-Make manipulation for download mod : home + power + sound - and plug battery in the same time
-Device go to download mod
Flash trought odin =)

Sorry for my ugly english, i'm french what ! ^^'

Did you try pc companion like this?
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer. Run the Software.
1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9.
2. In the welcome screen if asked click on Start, next you will be shown what Media Go offers, click on "next" then you will see a presentation on what Support Zone offers, click on "Finish".
3. In the next section from "Support Zone” and "Media Go" new select “Support Zone" and click on start.
4. On the next page select "Software Update" and click on "Start".
***At this point if you get an error stating that "unable to install update components" or "server is busy”, please proceed to step 12.
5. The program will say that there is no phone connected and will ask you to connect but disregard that and instead choose the option to "Repair Phone". (The program will issue you a warning on the content that you will lose during the update). Please be aware that any data saved only in your phone memory will be erased as part of the Phone Repair.
6. Choose Continue.
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (several minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose the X10 from the list (close to the bottom of the list) by clicking on the icon for the phone. Then click on "Next". Then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (Don't connect it yet!).
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC but not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the back key (the one on the lower right part of the screen that has the icon of an arrow pointing to the left on top) Connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the back key until the program says "The update of your phone has started..." (In some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "The update of your phone has started..." is shown.).
10. If the steps were not followed exactly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar". If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
11. If PC Companion proceeds correctly with the update it will tell you to release the back key. Wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on the screen.
12. If you receive the message: “Unable to install update components".
a. Close PC Companion.
b. Install Java from: http://www.java.com.
c. Start Pc companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more
something similar happened to my PSVITA when I had it charging recently. Was gonna send it back for a new one when I tried to change the usb cord and fixed the problem. Trust me, sometimes the fix is as simple as that, holler back if you did.
hit thanx if I helped
This latest tool also allows you to boot your Samsung Smartphone and tablets into the download mode without pressing the physical keys. If in case your Samsung device physical keys are not working, then this latest Samsung tool is useful for all of you. The best thing about this tool is that it is not necessary to have the USB debugging active. The tool only detects your device and restarts it in download mode to do the flashing by ODIN.
How to use Samsung 300K Tool
This latest tool is useful for those users who have Samsung devices that do not enter download mode with the failure of keys.
After download file is complete simply Run for install.
Make sure that the Samsung drivers are installed
Before connecting the device open the program and the following screen instructions.
Now connect your device to the computer and make sure that the cable is properly or correctly connected, and the screen will change.
In this last step click on the figure of the image where the strain point and your cell phone connected or not enter the download mode quickly in 2 seconds, but I recommend doing the operation with the phone is connected.
Done.
Admin Edit: Attachment has been removed as it was flagged by Google as "uncommon download". Also locking thread.

The attached Samsung 300k file gives a CRC error when extracted. also its an exe and doesnt run on Windows 10. Is there an equivalent file that will allow my samsung galaxy T4 (sm-231 v4.4.2 Kitkat) to enter download mode? Its home key is not working right now. Using ADB i am able to enter Manual mode, but not Download mode! So ODIN does not recognize it ( ID:COM is not highlighted). I have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers.
any help will be most appreciated.

When the phone is booted up normally and the way you would normally use it, when you connect your phone and open ODIN, does it still not pick up the phone on the COM port?
And (I'm sure you do), do you have USB debugging turned on and all the other usual things (like you mentioned, having installed the latest drivers)?

yes, i finally used "adb reboot download" to boot into download mode. Now when i am using ODIN and trying to root my cell by installing TWRP 3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar, it says PASS (success 1/fail 0), but my mobile still shows "DOWNLOADING..." with a horizontal blue line. I can also reboot and load normally, but it seems TWRP has not got installed and still ROOTCHECKER says my mobile is not rooted. Am i using the wrong versions of TWRP recovery or ODIN etc? Can you advice next steps?

When you've flashed TWRP, the phone will stay in download mode. Nothing will change on screen, that is normal. You have to reboot the device manually, using the button combination it says, then immediately as the device restarts, you change the combination to boot into TWRP. All of these steps are explained in whichever thread or wherever you found TWRP.
As far as rooting is concerned; TWRP doesn't inherently root the device. It just replaces the bootloader to allow you to flash custom packages, like the one needed to root the device.
If you're struggling to get the device rooted and there isn't a very specific reason why you need root, then my best recommendation would be to rather just leave it stock.
As far as I know, flashing TWRP won't trigger Knox, so you'll still have that functionality. Recently, it's become less and less necessary to have root and fewer apps require it, as well.
Like I said, unless there is a very specific reason, you'll likely be better off just leaving it the way it is.
EDIT: I'm realising now the original problem was that your home button wasn't working. In that case, it'll be difficult to get into TWRP, anyway. I also made some assumptions about Knox, because this is on the Note8 sub forum. I don't know if your device has Knox. And You're on a rather old version of Android also, so I understand why you may want to root, but without your home button working, it could become difficult to get into the places where you need to be to make that possible.
