When changing roms i always read the installation instructions found in the OP. Its always done via CMW and is along these general actions.
1 wipe user data
2 format system (mounts and storage)
3 wipe dalvik cache. (advanced)

I found the basic ROM installation procedure there. But one of my frnd on this site told me to wipe internal and external storage. Currently m using resurrection remix ROM latest version, and which is not allowing me to go in to setting-storage. Every time it says unfortunately storage has stopped. So need to know what are the other procedures

Go to CWM Recovery --> Mounts and Storage --> format /emmc (internal storage) and format /sdcard

Although you already have your answer, why would you want to format your internal and external storage? Absolutely no need for that if you're flashing something. Just saying.

How can I wipe internal memory?

I was able to completely wipe my internal storage in recovery mode on my sgs2, is there a way to do this on the sgs3? other than manually go to the folders and delete each one?
Please advice
Thanks
May i ask why, this could be potentially fatal for your phone (i assume you realise this)
When installing a new rom there are always folders and files left behind. Cwm was abke to do this before withouth harming our devices. Wondering why the option is not there like in the sgs 2 version of cwm

Performing a factory format using keypad
1. Key in *2767*3855#
2. Finally, SGS3 will be rebooted and factory format.
This will erase everything.. so plz make a backup before this

CWM recovery is the same mounts and storage format what you want .
Standard recovery factory reset and wipe all data is the same .

the only option under mounts and storage is to wipe the external sd card no the internal as before.

Format everything? ( /.....)

I want to have a cleared phone only with a CustomRom.
Can I format: (in Recovery --> mounts and storage)
/cache
/system
/data
/preload
/sdcard
without having problems later on?
I want to do it like this:
Flash stock, format everything (that there is no more data from the stock) --> flash Rom --> flash kernel.
Can I do this? Because I have found some stuff from Samsung Stock on the internSD.
Use *2767*3855#

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

From the dialer if custom rom does not have a dialer use recovery .

Have done this, but I still found some Samsung stuff on my internal SD -.-
(SMemo, and some other things)
You can just delete things from the Internal SD just like you would a normal SD card...
Download super wipe by mike in android revolution thread and flash it in recovery, nice and clean.
Thank you

Why are you even trying to flash your phone without even knowing if you have the 'i' version or not?
Are you telling me you never thought to check 'About phone' prior to flashing?
C'mon people, i'm not being funny but stupidity like this is getting boring to read through now!

I also had this question in my mind a couple days ago and found the answer, I wiped all the caches/dalvik/system etc....then formatted the internal storage (sdcard) in cwm which i never did until now...that erased all leftovers...hope this helps
Yeah, when you get into cwm, format /system. That will take care of it for sure. Anything on your SD cards should be irrelevant to the OS unless you're restoring data.

just to follow up on what jank said, if you do format /data/media, it will erase your whole internal sdcard. i do this every time i install a new rom to give it a fresh start. this does not affect your external sdcard.
Thanks so much guys!

You only need to do format /data. That will format the whole /data partition including /data/media which is the internal sd card. However, I just want to say you only need to factory reset, wipe system, then dalvik. Wiping the whole /data partition is only causing you more grief. Nothing on the internal sd card can cause ROM issues. I have been flashing ROMs on several devices (phones and tablets) and have never had to wipe my internal sd card.
All that is necessary is to follow the directions given by the ROM developer in the OP.
EDIT:
Factory Reset - Wipes /data but not /data/media. It also wipes cache.
Wipe Data - Wipes the whole /data partition (Meaning ALL user/app created files)
Wipe data/media - Only formats internal sd card.

Whenever you flash roms you must format all partitions so data isn't left behind. When data is left behind, problems will occur on the rom you just flashed.
If you want to backup your room just make a internal SD backup via nandroid. If you want to restore it later just format all partitions again and go nandroid and choose restore. Your backup should be there.
And you shouldn't format the internal SD card since you lose data. Only format if it becomes corrupt (doesn't mount or work properly).
