My phone was rooted w/ s-off, I had to take it to the Verizon store today for a warranty replacement so I unrooted and got it back to s-on before I went. They gave me a new phone and when I got home I noticed they had applied the OTA already before I left the store, must have been when they were activating the phone and new SIM.
So I have 2.11.605.9 and I try to run Revolutionary to get s-off and root and it stops saying it could not get root.
Am I stuck waiting for the Revolutionary tool to be updated or is there something else I can do?

So when you say you can't get "root" do you mean it won't flash their custom bootloader?
Have you tried using the manual method?
Has anyone else tried this to confirm if the exploit has been patched?
I guess I could be a guinea pig and try it out for myself. Of course, if I can't root that will really put a damper on my ROM update

Ok, took the plunge and tried the htcdev.com method but the Thunderbolt is not supported. It returns a "token" that is necessary to complete the unlock process that says "invalid token - device not supported". I guess I have to wait for the folks at Revolutionary to get root back.
If you don't mind having to wipe your phone... You can rooted and on 2.11.605.9... see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20434629&postcount=36
So if I unroot and my phone takes the latest 2.11.605..9 update, all I have to do is flash the 2.11.605.5 RUU, put phone into airplane mode as soon as it boots, then I can root again?
.9 will lock the boot loader so i realy don't follow what you are saying
Heres how i got root back using .9 radio and .5 oem

So, is there somewhere I can download .5? And then I rename it to PG05IMG.zip so it updates from the locked bootloader which should get me back to .5?

Worked like a charm, powered off and booted with that file on my sdcard, it updated (or downgraded in this case) and then I was able to run Revolutionary and now have root and s-off again. Thanks.

2.11.605.9 Doesn't lock the bootloader if you accept it OTA. It does however patch the ZergRush exploit preventing the ability to root.

You are correct. The problem I, and a few others, were having was we were unrooted and s-on. The OTA was applied to an already locked bootloader and thus couldn't run Revolutionary to get our phones rooted or s-off. No way I was going to chance taking my phone to the Verizon store with s-off for a warranty issue.
Every time I download 2.11.605.9, the zip is corrupted. I have tried MultiUpload and other sites. Need Help

Hey everyone,
Noob here. I've checked out a bunch of stuff on the forums and it seems like the only solution to the OTA 2.11.605.9 blocking of revolutionary is to downgrade to .5
However, I've had my tb for a while and don't want to wipe my contacts and data. Is there a workaround for this? If not, would it be reasonable to expect some kind of fix for the revolutionary method in the near future?
Thanks
I tried to follow what everyone was saying but don't know the Tbolt well enough. Can someone post a step by step on how to get root and S-off with a Tbolt I bought last week? I understand it to have the 2.11.605.9 software...

Ok here goes. Since the ics leak came out i can only assume that the Official update cant be that far behind. i have been reading the S-off and the Ics leak threads for about an hour or so now. and i have come to the following understanding: if i dont s off before installing the leak ( or even installing the official that ia on its way) then there is a chance i could never get s off.
So these are my questions
1. What are the advantages of having s-off
2. Should i just Root and s-off as soon as the phone comes in order to be sure i will have s-off
Sorry if these questions are "noob questions" and thank you in advance
You could wait for the official update which won't require you to root your phone or have S-OFF. T-Mobile hasn't released a date on when the update will come, but I'm sure it'll be when the One S is released. After I just updated to the leaked version my phone is no longer rooted and my bootloader is locked again, but I still have S-OFF

Well Having S-off allows you more control over your phone. you can flash radios, Eng/Mod Hboot images and have access to basically all partitions. if you upgrade to ICS before getting S-off you may only be able to have htc unlocked.

I think my problem was that I had a custom Rom installed like you stated somewhere else. So to anyone trying to update from a custom Rom you might have to have S-Off. Otherwise try reverting back to stock and updating it.

Ok, I am new at this whole thing. I have a stock HTC Amaze 4G and LOVE this phone. I have downloaded the file to my SD card and have followed all of the instructions. HOWEVER, before I scroll up to UPDATE in HBOOT mode, or whatever it is called, I need to know if everything is working ok on the phone? I don't want to brick my $550 phone and it only be used as paper weight. Will this update void the exchange warranty on the device? Please advise. Thank you!

Let me make sure I am clear here. If I reboot the phone, push down POWER and VOLUME down, it will go through the process then ask me if I want to update/upgrade. When I push the VOLUME UP button, it will update...yes...but did you experience any problems? IF something goes horribly wrong, am I able to revert back to the stock OS?

Ideally that's what would happen. The only problem I experienced was that it just wouldn't update when I didn't have S-Off it would find the update start unpacking it, fail, then just boot to gingerbread. I also noticed after a failed attempt like that I'd have to recopy the ph85img.zip file to my sdcard, the old one seemed to have been corrupted. There's always a risk associated with flashing non-official roms and updates to your phone. If you don't want to void your warranty It's probably better that you wait for the official update.

I think you are right! I have read reports the update should hit when the new One S goes on sale, WHICH is tomorrow. So, hopefully T-Mobile will push out the OTA tomorrow or this week. Thank you for your advice on this.
According to TMONEWS.com the amaze is scheduled for 6/16.
The Official Tmobile ICS update for the Amaze is finally out (May 21st). My question is very similar the OP. My phone has never been rooted, it has S-on and I finally received the notification for ICS update. My question is can I still get S-off after I do the OTA ICS update? OR should I get S-off first then upgrade to ICS?
Rasco702 yes you can still S-Off your device. There are 2 methods of the Juopunutbear S-Off Method. One for Gingerbread and one for ICS. Even if you wanted to soff while in gingerbread you can flash the RUU for ICS.

I have a rooted AT&T One X+ that I unlocked via HTCDev when I first got it and now run Elegencia. I'd like to update to the newest RUU (to get the radio/hboot/all the new stuff) before updating my phone again (running an older Elegencia version currently). I understand that running the RUU will wipe the SD card/phone/recovery/everything and bring me back entirely to stock and will relock the bootloader. My problem is that I don't have the unlock token from HTCDev anymore for the bootloader. Does anyone know if it's still possible to unlock the bootloader for an AT&T One x+ via HTCDev or did they close that loophole??? Or is there a way for me to recover the unlock token?
Thanks!
I want to do the same and from what I have read you can still unlock from HTCDev after updating.
The only thing I don't know is do you need to relock the bootloader before running the RUU?
I don't think you need to relock before running the RUU, it should do it itself I would think.
I've also done some more reading and I'm also wondering if it's really worth it....looks like you can flash the radio. May just pass on having to deal with unlocking/that whole thing again.

You have to relock bootloader and then you are able to run the ruu. If bootloader is unlocked and you try to run the ruu the setup will not complete and fail.
Have you tried to obtain the unlock.bin from the HTC website again since it was deleted?

This is where I got my unlock.bin to unlock my bootloader. The steps are very easy, Go here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and where it says "Select device" select 'Other supported models' and follow the on screen steps. Then they will email you your unlock.bin to unlock your bootloader
OK so I need to go through the process again, I thought there'd just be a way to get the bin file again without having to do it again, oh well.
Guess question becomes whether it's really worth it or not....

These are the steps i took to get the Kit Kat update.
I couldnt get the update OTA like most people and i was completely stock.

1. Unlock your bootloader and get root access. I did by following these instructions from this video.

2. Gain S-OFF by following these instructions from this video.

3. After you have completed these steps successfully head over to @clsA thread and download the AT&T 4.4.2 OTAPkg.zip and the
stock Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img. Link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659374
4. Place the downloaded .zip on the root your phone storage.
5. follow the steps in @clsA post and flash Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img via fastboot.
6. Navigate to recovery from fastboot on your HTC ONE. If you see "Mount SDCard failed" ignore it. goto to phone storage and locate the update.zip and flash it.

If you're stock, you should be able to get the update just by changing the date. I brought my phone back to stock (3.17.502.3) then just kept hitting Software Update. If it didn't update, advance the date and try again. After a few date changes, the update was offered.

Anyone know if there are issues with S-Off and rooting since the update? I am 100% stock, non rooted, never installed a rom. Its been stock since the day I got it. I planned on getting the AT&T update to 4.4.2, rooting, making an update then testing some roms.
I know with other phones the update screwed some things up so I didn't know if rooting/s-off were an issue since the update.
Thanks ll!

I tried with bootloader re-locked, unlocked, locked. I tried with stock recovery and with ClockWM recovery both locked and unlocked.
I also tried to re-apply the patch with stock recover but it fails verification...
Any ideas how do I go back or fix this?

The BEST way to make sure that you can run the RUU, whether it be the ATT version, or the Dev Edition is to make sure you downgrade the HBOOT to 1.44. You will never see than error again. No problems at all. Why on Earth though would you want the ATT version, when you can Dev it, and take the 4.4.2 OTA with no carrier BS?

Actually that is what I did. After downgrading HBoot I was able to use the RRU.
Unfortunately I use my phone for work with Mobileiron and will flag it to IT if I'm rooted. I have tried a couple of workaround so but did not work very well. Every time I try to monkey with it IT starts getting emails every 30 min saying my device is not compliant and I am rooted.... So my best solution is to unlock boot loader and flash mods there. Which got me into this trouble....
I can't navigate to the recovery after I flashed Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img to install the OTA. I've tried going to recovery mode and then pressing Power + Vol. Up to no avail. Any help?
Hi all,
Hope this topic hasn't already been covered a million times.
Here's where I'm at,
I've unlocked by bootloader, that's all no root or custom recovery.
Now when i try to do a OTA update i get the dreaded red triangle. very frustrating!
I've tried fastboot oem lock, but it says relocked, not locked and my OTA update still won't work.
I've searched high and low for a RUU for Telstra Australia, to no avail..... DAM IT!!!
Can anyone help???
If I root, use firewater to soff the use scotty's to relock, will the OTA work then? How would i get rid of the root?
I have some understanding of fastboot, adb and flashing but I'm still a bit of a noob so go easy.
Sorry if i posted in the wrong place.

Because you could use Guru found in HTC One Development which can Lock, Relock and Unlock the bootloader. If your not rooted then you would be fine to receive the update after reflashing the stock recovery.

I believe stock recovery is what you need and all stock system files in place to take OTA. I had my Max S-OFF, unlocked and rooted and it still let me take the Kit Kat update, so really not sure why you can't, being only unlocked. Are you sure you didn't alter any other files?

What is that TuneIn.apk i see in the error? Could be you are missing that and it is a file it looks for.
Hmmm, that was a factory installed app that seems to have gone missing since I unlocked the boot loader, along with the HTC torch app. I will install it and see what happens...
After a bit more reading, unlocking the boot loader clears all data from the phone. Including a few apps that are preloaded in a data folder. It appears the update looks for these app.

That sucks, i wonder how I got mine to update after I unlocked, lucky I guess. Looks like you might be on the right track tho, let me know how it turns out.
I know I didn't relock to get ota. Perhaps its a device based thing. On sprint for instance I never have seen the relocked or tampered tags.

Still battling away, no luck yet. I have rooted with custom recovery now.
So you were on the stock recovery when the update went through?

Yes I was, I had just gotten a replacement and it was still on JB. So I immediately ran Rummrunner to get S-OFF and then I was unlocked, rooted and S-OFF, everything else stock. As soon as it re booted it ran the update for KK and all was good. After that I just put TWRP on and re rooted
