How to get ota if I am not with vzw - HTC Droid DNA

Folks, I need some help here. I am using my DNA with tmobile now and have never activated with Verizon. How do I get the ota update? I am rooted with a custom Rom. Many thanks!

you can do a manual install of the ota by downloading it and installing via recovery but dont quote me on that. this is my first htc device so i dnt know too much about it myself

Go to Original Development. You should find the RUU thread i believe from micromod777. Dunno your previous devices, but RUU is akin to SBF for motorola and ODIN for samsung. It is how you get released/leaked factory images onto your phone using your computer and fastboot. You can also flash the stock rom in recovery but if you are not s-off you will not be able to get the valuable(IMHO) parts which are the bootloader/radio etc . I would say your best bet to get the good stuff Is to go to original development, download the RUU to your computer, re lock your phone using fastboot oem lock in fastboot mode and a terminal on your cpu. Once you update you will have lost root. So re-unlock using superCID, re root after reinstalling your custom recovery. Now you will be updated, unlocked, and rooted. BACKUP your device.. IT WILL BE WIPED

[HELP] Unable to install recovert to HTC Cobalt (aka Thunderbolt)

Hello.
I have a friend's Thunderbolt that's called HTC Cobalt in Open Mobile. I unlocked it via HTC dev and it all ran successfully. Now I'm trying to install a recovery (CWM). And all I get is an error.
I tried installing it via Revolutionary, but no go. I also tried the All in One Thunderbolt tool and still no go. Here's a pic of the bootloader:
Is there a way to root this thing properly to add a recovery?
Can u flash 4ext in hboot?

Yes, and it said something about the phone's software being old.
And later attempted to use Zergrush, but it failed.

Well, I had to do an OEM lock just in case cuz he returns it. I told him not to though. Open mobile employees are kind of dumb so it would look better as relocked than unlocked.

You need to unlock it again in order to put the recovery on it. That will be the only way to get superuser installed.

since youve allready unlocked, heres what id do:
-reunlock(use original token)
-fastboot flash recovery( fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.img
you can use any recovery,it doesnt have to be ext 4. i personally refer twrp or amon, but thats up to you.
-flash a rooted stock rom,2.11.605.5 or older
-run revolutionary
despite calling the open mobile modle "cobalt" the hboot screen clearly displays mecha,so theres really no reason revolutionary shouldnt work.
if it is getting some sort of CID error, might try making a gold card and putting it into the phone when running revolutionary.
in a worse case, you can always make a gold card and downgrade to exploitable vzw firmware, and manually write shadowmites permanent patched hboot. after that, you should be able to fastboot oem write cid 11111111 to superCID the TB and then run the open mobile ruu to get back to that firmware.
just holler if you need a download and/or help with the commands
Great post. I will try that. Thanks a TON!!!

check out this thread:
http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...591-help-root-htc-cobalt-aka-thunderbolt.html (i actually found yours while searching for info for the other one )
all he did was run fre3vo and then revolutionary. you can stay relocked and do that(directions here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html )
or you can re-unlock,flash recovery, then prolly flash superuser 3.0.7 instead of flashing a stock rom. all that really matters is root acess for revolutionary to work. shouldnt matter if its temp root from fre3vo,or permanent root from htcdev
the main thing is that it worked for him without the use of a gold card.

Firmware and boot loader ?'s

OK so I used the bootloader to flash the 3 option in Haus's thread and every thing is working. But....
Now on the bootloader screen it says locked tampered then S-off.
I was told the locked was just wat it was saying and didn't matter.
So do I have a locked boot loader? And does that even matter for anything or was it just required to get root plus S-off?
Did I mess up getting the newest hboot from the firmware? I was told I needed it to run meanbean.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure what u flashed but it sounds like you flashed the whole thing which means you have stock recovery now. Either fastboot flash recovery image or download thru goo manager.
Once you have a custom recovery installed your all set. Don't worry about the locked on your bootloader

You should have flashed the first file the one with no kernel, hboot, or stock recovery that would have updated everything you needed to be updated
So did I mess anything up? I was able to flash mean bean without any issues.

[Q] Update 4.05.605.14 710RD on S-ON Phone

Can some please list the details of installing the OTA-Global-Stock-4.05.605.14 710RD-Rooted.zip on a S-ON phone? Or any other way to avoid the OTA update from automatically trying to install and eventually aborting? I'm VERY new to the rooting terminology so please be specific. Thanks!
So nobody can help me with this?
Do I have to uproot and relock the bootloader to get the OTA, or is there another way to flash the update?
to get OTA you have to be relocked. did you check this thread yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250494
I've read through several of the posts. They seem more relevant to S-OFF, I'm still S-ON. I've re-locked the bootloader but the OTA still stops at the bootloader screen when the phone reboots. Do I have to "flash" the OTA manually from there using a computer (i.e. fastboot flash recovery ..\OTA.zip)?
You also need to be on stock Rom with stock recovery for the ota to work
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
That's what I figured, so just go back to stock. I think I can remember to do this (I had to to it a couple of months ago when I got a warranty replacement), but if you have any advice on this it would be great. Thanks!
Are you on the global leak now? If not just run the latest ruu for ics 605.12 which you can find at shipped-roms under vigor.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Have 3.14.605.13.710RD installed.
You could run the 605.12 ruu as it has the same hboot or extract the stock recovery from that and install it, as long as your on a non modified stock Rom you should be able to get the update.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks! That worked... BUT... now it looks like I have a bigger problem. I was able to get the updates and re-root but when I was restoring my backup I could not boot up. Because I have the update HBOOT I can't go back and do the stock RUU, I am able to boot up into TWRP recovery but now I am TOTALLY lost. When I shut down from recovery it says I don't have an OS installed, idea ideas?
I got it! Kept reading various posts and re-installed AmonRA instead of TWRP and was able to install the OTA-Global-Stock-4.05.605.14 710RD-Rooted ROM, already had flashed the boot.img. Wow! How does anyone figure out how to do this stuff in the first place?!

Reboot issue after re-lock

Hey ppl,
A while back I got a software update notice, so select the OTA and let it run. It failed to update my OS, so I relocked the bootloader thinking that may be the issue, and tried to update again. Now, every time the phone reboots it boots into the bootloader screen.
This issue is causing me to not be able to reboot into recovery, so I can't put any new ROM on the phone.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Paul

You, probably need to run an RUU.
It'll restore your phone to complete stock form so you can start over. It's an official tool, you can download it and run it on your PC but you have to download the one made specifically for your phone model.
I'm assuming you have the AT&T One? Are you s-off or s-on? Depending on which you can skip to that section in this guide : http://www.htc1guru.com/guides/return-stock-guide/
It seems pretty detailed though I haven't used it myself. Besides that there is a ton of info about how to run RUUs so do some searching first.

or you can just re unlock your phone

[Q] Cannot Download OTA

I have an AT&T HOX+ running stock. It's unlocked via HTC and rooted. I cannot download any OTAs. I learned the hard way that you cannot download OTAs if you have any stock apps disabled so I've re-enabled them. Now it goes through the motions and finds the update, but when I connect to Wifi all I see is a blank message as seen in the attached screenshot.

Maybe Unroot and try.......
You must first flash the stock recovery and then relock bootloader using the command "fastboot oem lock" in fastboot. The stock recovery.img can be flashed using the fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" where "recovery.img" is replaced with whatever your recovery name is and .img. Make sure you flash the recovery before relocking. Root should not mess up the update although you will lose root after the update. I updated while the device was still rooted!

So there's no way to update and run a custom recovery? If I have to relock the bootloader, I can't unlock again without factory wiping.
Why can't HTC just get the bluetooth right from the start? How did they even release a phone when BT doesn't work?

It's not the unrooting that will cause you to lose any data or other content on your device. It is the re-unlocking of the bootloader or the running of a RUU. AFAIK, there is no way to keep your device contents while you update the radio and hboot. The only option is to backup contents of SD, backup apps using Google or TiBU, and backup sms and call log. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is how it goes. With that being said, it is not mandatory that you upgrade the radio/hboot in order to install a ROM that is sense 5/JB 4.2.2. There are already ROM's out there for AT&T built on this base

If I unroot and install the OTA, and then unlock the bootloader again, with it keep the updated firmware or drop back to factory?
If I'm going through all this trouble, maybe I should be looking at a custom ROM. Any suggestions for a Sense 5 one built on AT&T? I haven't seen one for this phone.

If you update via the OTA then your factory firmware WILL be updated. Maybe you can request that a dev make a ROM that is stock and rooted sense5/JB 4.2.2, you might grab the interest of someone.. That way you could have a "stock" image of the ROM and avoid the radio/hboot upgrade. Otherwise, you will just have to go through the update process, wiping your device. IMO, backing everything up is not too painstaking and it is a good practice to do this periodically anyways. Just my .02!
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Backing up isn't too difficult on JB. I've done it manually as well as with Helium and other apps throughout the rooting/experimenting process. It's been my experience that those app backups don't restore properly and I'm left starting over anyway. The issues could be app specific, but I honestly don't remember which apps didn't work now.
Of course, I suppose it's all a small price to pay to have a phone that actually works when I connect my BT headset.

OK, well after dusting off the cobwebs and reading some threads for the Intl version I learned this... the stock firmware will also contain the radios and stock recovery. So now I'm looking for the correct firmware to match my phone's CID and Modelid. The command to dump these variables out is 'fastboot getvar all'
My AT&T OneX+ reported this:
(bootloader) modelid: PM6310000
(bootloader) cidnum: CWS__001
There's a txt file in the firmware.zip that will contain a list of the applicable CID numbers the firmware can apply to. Evidently since our phones are S-on an entry in the list must correspond to the device's reported CID.
So now I'm searching for an updated firmware.zip
You can find the stock rom here as found in this thread.
