Please i cant get S-off I'm running the ics update and i need to root , I want to install deodexed please help
Until someone comes up with a unlock procedure for the new ICS bootloader you are Sol basically. Should have rooted first and not bother with the ota at all.

I was wondering if anyone knows if i can keep root after taking the ics ota. Ive tried root keeper but when i update my phone just reboots like normal? Can someone help or at least shed some light on how to even update using the ota without root? Thanks!

The usual wisdom is to never take ota if you are rooted. Why not just flash a stock, rooted Rom?

I could but thats not what i was asking...

The reason I suggested that is because you will lose root if you take the ota and will have to unlock using HTC dev, then flash a custom recovery, then install super user again. My suggestion is easier.

Hello everyone. I have a galaxy s3 i535 on verizon wireless. I am currently rooted and have CWM and a backup of CyanogenMod10 (jellybean). I am currently on stock ICS my phone shipped with. My question is how to i get rid of CWM and my root. I want to be ready for JB OTA. Also, does my bootloader need to be locked when i accept OTA updates?
I want my phone back to just like it came when i took it out of the box.

This might help. Post in there.

Root has nothing to do with ota updates, if you update rooted phone it will most likely loose it during the process. What you need is bootloader locked, unlocked bootloader on ota upgrade can brick the device
Do i need to get rid of cwm and my backups first?

I'm pretty sure yes, you do need stock recovery but you can keep your backups, those are just files saved onto the SD card

How do o get rid of it?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No you don't need to get rid of it...as i said before the only thing required is locked bootloader, the update will overwrite anything on the sytem partition and eventually will get erased with the update. If you really want to return to stock find the stock .ftf file for your phone and flash it using flashtools or odin similar program..it's all explained in section 6 of the link posted by .xxx. second post of this thread....
Ok i dont want to brick it. So all i need to do is lock ny bootloader the when i get jb ota i wont brick it

Can someone else verify this?

Just read here if you want further proof, it's in the sony forum but same rules apply to all devices

"If you want to experiment.." Translates to, if you're willing to try...
It works.. I am currently on the latest ota 4.1.2 P769 20d with unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm recovery. YMMV, try at your own risk.
It seems like he said you can experiment too unlock it or wait for jelly bean update, thank you ill try it today i'm tired of waiting xD

The jelly bean update came, it's not unlockable as hoped.. So it's the only method, currently, there isn't much dev activity on this device either, if you notice in the subforums. So waiting might be a long time, or a surprise..
If you don't mind me asking, what in particular are you need to do that requires unlocked bootloader? We can already root and bootstrap cwm recovery without unlocking it.
thanks,
I would like to use custom ROMS on my phone, can you do that without unlocking the bootloader?
i have CWM already also.
The only ROM available is an unofficial cyan 10.1 ... Its working alright for me so far. It was a pita unlocking it, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know you want cyanogen (a buggy one).
Ignore my SIG, my 769 thinks its 760 now

No you need unlocked boot loader and yes the only rom is the CM10 has a couple of bugs but i like it
Wondering if there is a way that I could obtain a stock rom off my girls phone without making it modified at all so I can put that rom on my phone since I can't seam to update to m15 and I wanna get the new mj4 update.... She doesn't have yet tho but when I can get it.

I can save you some headache. There is a stock rom in the development section. If all else fails while trying to update flash the official samsung mi3 package. Update from that using ota then reroot.
From my Note 3 using Tapatalk
The problem there is I have tried that and tried using xposed to get official but that won't stick. I'm kinda pissed at Samsung for this bull ya know. If you know how to get the xposed to stick I'd more then appreciate it.
This was an idea because me and my girl got our phones at the same time so hers isn't rooted so she can still update I cannot. got tired of waiting for knox bypass and just said screw it I want root lol now I'm kinda bummed that I didn't wait now

Hey all. Finally decided to root my one. Does it make sense to wait for it's kitkat ota update and then root ? Would this change any of the steps in the root process?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
You should wait, if you root you can download a Rom that is 4.4.2. But things like WiFi calling doesn't work.
Go ahead and root. After a official 4.4.2 is released someone will put out a custom ROM that will already have root as well so why wait

Yes s-off that might be patched until a new exploit like gustav said and also imo a custom recovery to have some fun and trying out a few custom roms while you wait for an update just remember to use the update you need a locked bootloader and IIRC you need a stock recovery both not hard to get (someone plz correct me if im wrong about recovery)
Thanks guys I rooted but have been having trouble getting some tethering apps to work I think my kernel is write protected? Can anyone recommend a rom that has cool customization stuff and is also good with tethering?

Edit - I flashed insertcoin and the tethering works great.
