I have entered the unlock code I received from AT&T and it tells me the request was unsuccesful. Any ideas as to why this might happen?
Well you could start with any kind of information about what ROM you're running

I am running stock rom, I just updated to 4.0.4 from Kies
I downgraded to 2.3.4 and manged to unlock it via root and program. Is there a way to update to 4.0.4 again without losing sim unlock?

Why not just goes with the JellyBean? You are alreaedy rooted.
I was also slightly reluctant to go the app route to unlock the sim on mine, especially since the "legit" way seemed to be trouble free. On 4.0.4, I used #7465625*638*# to bring up the sim unlock prompt, worked without a hitch.
The AT&T rep also noted to me that you get 5 attempts before its permanently locked? any truth to that?
I originally posted this in the AOKP thread, since that's what I am currently running. I'll just paste what I had there for now.
Well, I'll be out of the country for a month or so, and I called AT&T to get the unlock code, which they gave to me after a few minutes of discussion as to why I needed it. However, putting it in yielded no results. I asked earlier (maybe in a different thread) if running an aftermarket ROM would have any effect, and I was told it would not. Was I told something wrong?

After doing some research, it seems that AOSP based ROMs seem to have issues with unlock codes. I'd rather not downgrade all the way back to stock, so if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

Which rom did you use to upgrade to JellyBean? I have seen a few of them but don't know which one to use, plus will I be able to unlock the phone?

Yeah I finally managed to unlock it. I entered the MCC/MNC number for the SIM I am using and it worked. But you need the unlock code to add them. I will post the steps later.
[Edit]
Here are the steps I followed:
1. Turn the phone Wi-Fi OFF and then turn device ON without SIM card.
2. Type *7465625*638*#
3. You will see the NETWORK LOCK screen
4. In MCC/MNC field, enter MCC/MNC code for the provider you want to use. (example: enter 310260 if you want to use this phone for T-mobile USA Sim Card; 310410 or 310380 for AT&T). Check this link for complete MCCMNC for your provider: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code (It is very important to try all the MCC/MNC code if your New Sim Card Network has more than one code)
5. In CONTROL KEY field, enter the Unlock Code
6. Press OK
7. You should get a message: LOCK SUCCESSFUL
8. Turn off your phone, insert your New Network Sim Card and power ON. The phone should be unlocked.

This worked for me... but I didn't have a new SIM to switch too yet, so just put in the AT&T MCC/MNC and popped my SIM back in. Does this mean it's unlocked for all possible future networks now? Or do I need to do this process and put in a new MCC/MNC each time I switch to a different SIM?

I would just order an off network SIM off Amazon for 50 cents. I called AT&T yesterday and asked for the code so once I got the SIM from Amzn I just shoved it in the phone and when it asks for the unlock put it in and voila! Btw... once a phone has been successfully unlocked (at least through legit methods) it is permanent and the IMEI should be able to be recognized across all compatible networks worldwide.
This took awhile but It worked!! My phone was hard locked too.

Thanks a Million. was about to
AT&T had gave me the wrong code the first time (because I had 2 gs2's on my account. And after 5 attempts !!! It locks and will not accept any code. Only get Unlock unsuccessful. Then the CS agent goes, OH you have 2 phones, Well here is the code you need "BUT" its hard locked now and can't be taken off AT&T's network because you made two many wrong attempts.
Thanks again

From my understanding, once you get the code to a phone.
If my phone is a T-Mobile based phone do I,
Put the SIM card of the carrier that I plan on using the phone with -in my case it's WindMobile.
...and then enter the unlock code?
Or do I put an entirely different SIM (not TMobiles, not WindMobile) card in the phone from a 3rd carrier and enter the code and once entered turn the phone off, put MY carrier's SIM card in and power the phone on?
Anyone?
I just got my codes, kinda, sorta (not really, but I am) anxious to get my Vibrant going here.
Thanks.
Thanks.
So, doing it through the dialer, I got "Not registered on network" .
Will move to Vibrant specific fora...they'll help you
lol thanks Mod
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
The T-Mobile code given is giving us a "network unlock unsuccessful" prompt after we enter the code they gave us.
The IMEI is right, so... dunno...
Hi,
I am having a Samsung P7500 Galaxy tab,
I had sent it overseas with my wife, bu before that I called my service provider and get the Sim unlocking code, then I tried with different Sim and it was asking code we enter and it was all good. she took it overseas and enter local Sim, it was working fine, then move to different city use there local Sim, working fine but when she tried to enter different Sim again, it was asking for Sim unlocking code again,
she has enter too many codes before calling me, like 00000 then 12345, so and so, when she called me and I had given the code which I was having from service provider, she entered and getting message that network unlocking is unsuccessful.
Now what????? If my tab is permanently locked, or is there any option....
if rooting is solution, or something els.
I tried to Google it, but nothing found about it.
Thanks.

I am still waiting for answer guys, its 3 days now....
any way some one suggest me that its PUK locked, get the PUK code from service provider....
I have a question the same sim card when I am entering in different mobile its working fine, in tab its showing network pin unsuccessful. i can see the main screen of tab. the only problem is there is no network. can anyone figure what the problem can be...???
The sim is working ok in an other phone? That means it is not locked and should work normally in your tablet if you enter the correct code. Obviously it is not..
You could try a factory reset:
- hold down left volume button while booting
- in menu press left volume button again to select recovery menu
- right volume button to enter recovery
- select wipe data/factory reset
- reboot

Hi all,
First of all, I want to say thanks for all the help and knowledge I've found on this website - it's amazing.
I've come to you because my sister bought an i5500 from a girl who was on the Telus network in Canada. My sister is on SaskTel, and I believed I would be able to unlock it after looking at xda-dev for some time. After several hours of rooting and attempting unlock, I finally got the BML5 file and opened it in hex editor. After several more hours, I managed to locate my SIM unlock code - 01234567 (Which I find odd, by the way).
Anyway, my sister has since gotten a SIM card from SaskTel and when we insert it, no SIM code prompt appears. I then tried it with my Fido card, and it did the exact same thing - the phone acts as though there isn't any SIM card in. It does, however, state that there's no signal.
Does this mean that the phone is already unlocked? If it is unlocked, I don't know how it happened - the girl that originally owned the phone never hacked the phone or anything. If it is unlocked, why won't my Fido SIM card, or my sister's SaskTel SIM card work?
The other issue I've been having is that the phone will suddenly turn off every 5 or 10 minutes. Could it have happened when I rooted the phone? I used SuperOneClick to do it, then command prompt to pull the img file to my laptop. Did I partially brick it?
Thank you so much for any help you guys can give me; I'd like to think of myself as fairly technically apt, but at the moment, I'm completely at a loss as to how to fix this.
Again, thanks.
---------
EDIT: Found some new info: Whenever the phone restarts, the date, time, and time zone are all reset back to standard. Does this mean that the battery is shot? The phone is less than a year old...
useful thread
Well I don't know about the rebooting, but what I recommend you read this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548
specially the last part, which states:
Most custom roms that tries to remove blur break the subsidy lock interface (sim unlock screen doesn't show on them). If you flash other rom and subsidy unlock screen doesn't pop when you insert foreign sim, you will need to flash back stock ROM in order to unlock. So the easyest way for those of you running a Custom ROM, just do a nandroid backup using CWM, flash Stock ROM, unlock your phone then restore your backup.

If you have reached the end of the tutorial and you wasn't able to obtain the unlock code( find numbers like 00000000 / 11111111 ), then it means that your phone it's "Hard Locked" or doesn't have the unlock code provided with the phone. I don't know any solution until now for this problem. For most of the people here, this works flawlessly, for some doesn't work.

Thanks for this. I used that link to root and get the code for the phone, but now I'm confused with the lack of PIN unlocking screen. Does that mean that I'm going to have to backup/flash with stock ROM? I'm totally fine with flashing it back to stock if it's not, in fact, I've looked for a stock ROM in case that was the issue. Since it's a Canadian model though, (GT-I5500M) I can't find any. There's a list somewhere on XDA with all the I5500 ROMs, but it says that there aren't any from Canada. Options? Ideas?
Thanks again for the help.
Anyone with any other ideas? Right now I'm trying to decide whether or not we should just sell the phone and get a new one, so any advice/help would be appreciated so much.

Thanks, I did, but there isn't anything for Canada on there. A new problem just cropped up: the WiFi won't turn on. So, even if I wanted to flash it with an official firmware, I don't think I could - I have to use the market to download an app to flash, right?

Hi
I have a sgs2. It is originally a bell cellphone/simcard. I now have a telus simcard. The phone now asks for a sim unlock code, when the telus sim card is inside. I have just installed wanamlite 13.0 rom. The phone is rooted, and galaxy s unlock app doesnt seem to work.
A couple of questions. In order to unlock the sim, should I put in the bell simcard, then run the unlocking apps, then get code, write it down. Shut down phone, then install the telus sim card, restart and put in the code from bell sim card?
Im a little fuzzy on the whole process.
The weird thing is that on android 4.0.3 galaxy s unlock will seem to work, and unlock the phone. And it wont re lock after a hard restart. It only seems to stay sim locked under 4.0.4 android.
If anyone could offer some help that would be great. I have also looked into editing nv file with hex editor but I cant seem to find the strings..
Just look for an app called "galaxy sim unlock" and install it and then run it ... u know what to do

I have a One Max and have unlocked the bootloader and managed to s Off.
I want to enable the phone for a US T Mobile sim to allow me to use data roaming, can anyone advise how I do this or point me to a thread with instructions?

Fixed.
For those who may be in a similar position I needed to change the CID to the super ID,
To do this, I did the following:
fastboot oem readcid (making a note of the old cid - just in case)
fastboot oem writecid 11111111 (that's 8 1s)
load recovery
clear all caches
reboot...all worked
Regards
Mark.
