Ota update - HTC Rezound

looks like were getting a new update
so is an OTA an RUU?
if it is. than is it ok to make a nandroid backup and restore on a new RUU?
EDIT: i think the rom would have to support a certain version of an RUU?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/02/18/htc-rezound-and-icredible-2-receiving-minor-ota-updates/

Something doesn't seem right about this. Baseband versions are old, pre-global firmware. I thought the 3.14.605.12 came with the global radios?

Looks like a very minor update.
It probably won't come with global radios, as that was the 4.03.605.x version.
And for op, your nandroid won't work going from one firmware version to another

so these will be flashable for ppl with custom roms or do i have to go back to stock to get the update and flash back to my rom?
Or for only stock roms?

I don't think HTC is going to do that.

haha, srry didnt look.

To answer an OP question, an OTA is not an RUU. OTA = over the air. An RUU is essentially a full device dump. An OTA normally only contains the changes since the previous version. I haven't seen an RUU version of this update in the wild yet.

Thing you have to realize, the Global RUU was/is a leak with a build # 4.03.605.2. I'm looking into making an RUU for you guys that contains the OTA. If you're s-off, I say play with the global radios, if s-on stay with the ota firmware.

•Question•

I had a thought that came to my mind.
I understand that the big issue with the rollback is the bootloader or w/e
I'm so tired of my v1 of the 2.1 leak.
Is it possible to use an image of the OTA 2.1 since I'm assuming the bootloader from the OTA and the leak is the same....
Any ideas?
Re: •Question•
You would think so but issue with bootloader is they are the same version with s- on. With that the device assumes the its is same version as leak and you get an error when trying to flash. Say in version you are trying to load is older than the one you have. If that weren't true then rooting would be possible on the leak. Sorry.

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
I'd think you should be able to flash the OTA update. Since you're on leak v1, you stand to get quite a few improvements and bug fixes, at the very least. It won't help you root unfortunately, but it would still be an upgrade for you, if you don't mind a brand new flash.
Re: •Question•
Yeah you would think but ota has lower version of bootloader. The leak has 1.49 and ota has 1.46 or 1.47. And device assumes ota is older version of Android. The only version you can flash once on leak is desire ruu which is a new release. There is I post for it in the Android development forum.

What about leak v3? It's basically the same as the OTA and you should be able to update to that.

Yes you can use leak version 2 or 3. Or the release which they are installing on all phones as they produced them in Feb. Before Eris got discontinued.

Alright so if I'm reading all this correctly I should be able to flash into a newer leak...
Does anyone have any idea how I'm supposed to do this?
Do I flash to Leak V3 or to the desire ruu rom?
Thanks for all the great answers by the way.
From the looks of things I'm not as stuck as I thought I was.

Yep thats what I did. I put the RUU over Leak v3 and at the least I am "offical" now since I couldnt do anything anyway (root, etc). Simple process with the RUU.
Can someone point me in the right direction as to how I use the Ruu?
Do I install it on my computer first or just put it directly onto my SD card like with the v1 rom?

In my defense, I had just joined the forum yesterday and for the first time unlocked the bootloader, removed root, flashed a custom rom and kernel. But the OTA update was performed before I even came onto XDA, so I didn't know that because of it I would not be able to revert to stock. Now I do.

If I'm S-ON can I downgrade my firmware?

I'm currently rooted and I'm running team viper 1.03. However, I updated previously to the leaked ICS 5-7 firmware which came with some pretty crappy radios for me. I use to get much higher 4g speeds, and I'd like to return to the gingerbread ones. I saw this thread and I was wondering if it was safe to flash these firmwares here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
There's no mention about s-on anywhere so I'm not sure.

Original question
K I'm thinking of updating radios and hboot now my radios are 1xxxxxxx and 1xxxxx my hboot though is 2.27 which if I'm not mistaken is the newest one? I know I have asked about this before but if I update will it brick if I am already on the newest hboot or will it not matter? I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing.
I understand that's how I do it but is it safe to if I'm already on 2.27 hboot. I'm sorry stang I'm just confused and is just something I remember being a problem from the incredible days.
Reply
I could be wrong but I believe the procedure involves downloading the RUU, opening the zip with an archive manager and just remove everything out of the RUU you do not want to update and then just close the zip, rename it and flash it in hboot. Don't try that until we can get a better answer though. Lets move this question over to the support thread.

Like I was saying, I could be wrong but I believe the procedure involves downloading the RUU, opening the zip with an archive manager and just remove everything out of the RUU you do not want to update and then just close the zip, rename it and flash it in hboot.
So if you download the RUU and open it up with an archive manger like 7Zip you can see a bunch of files:
adsp.img
android-info.txt
boot_signed.img
dzdata_16g.hdr
dzdata_16g.img
hboot_8x60-lte_2.27.0000_120803_MR2_signedbyaa.nb0
mdm9k.img
mdmrcdata_3.01_002.img
pg2fs_spcustom.img
radio.img
ramdisk.img
rcdata_1.16.002.img
recovery_signed.img
rpm.img
sbl1.img
sbl2.img
sbl3.img
splash1.nb0
system.img
tp_atmel224e_1101.img
tz.img
I think your supposed to remove everything but android-info.txt and radio.img and just close the zip, rename it to PH98IMG.zip and flash in HBOOT. I'd rather you not do this though until someone gives us a better answer as I rarely mess with radios and such. Things are quite a bit different than what they were on the Incredible.

I have installed a few different JB roms on my rezound and recently after installing this rom my notification drawer is not responding correctly. wWhen pulling down the drawer it stops at the date and the button for the quick settings and it just stays there and the hardware buttons are then unresponsive. Is this a known issue? I searched but didn't find any mention. It does this on any JB rom/kernel I have tried.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hmm, yea that is definitely not normal and isn't a known bug, with this Rom at least. I'm assuming your Rezound is on the very latest firmware and you have followed the install instructions perfectly right? Are you using other kernels with this rom and thats what causing the problem, or does it do it on the stock kernel as well?
EDIT: Also does the bug continue if a different launcher is used like Apex, Nova, Launcher Pro or ADW EX?
I am s-off I am going to do an ruu and see if it is fixed. I have tried multiple Roms including yours ,shrike's, and Neo's, each with the kernel the ROM comes with. I had shrike's pacman for a while and it never had this issue.
Hboot-2.27.00 I'm sorry but where do I find the firmware info? Or does the hboot suffice?
Settings / About phone / Baseband version. Also I asked about the launcher. Does using a different one fix the problem?

The only other reports I can find related to your issue were caused by defected screens on certain devices. The cause is slight screen lift at the top. The effect would be the Status bar could not be dropped down, could only sometimes be dropped down, or could be dropped down most of the time with a minor issue getting the shade to pull down ever so often. I'd suggest RUUing back to stock and if the issue is still there, send the phone in for repair or replacement.

Same thing is happening to me hollis, and I think it's because you're S-on. I saw a blurb somewhere that said to do the RUU you have to either be on the stock ROM or be S-off already.
I'm still S-on too. I looked into the JuopunutBear S-off procedure and it said a prerequisite was also that I be on the stock ROM 1st. So, do I have to somehow get my Rezound back to stock and off of the ViperRez ROM I'm on now, then do JuopunutBear, then do the RUU, then do a new recovery, then do CM10?
