Best Stock ROM With Great Battery Life? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi everyone! my girlfriends sumsung galaxy s II drains battery way too fast so I'm trying to get it to a ROM that looks exactly like the original (stock) but extends the battery life. Do you guys have any recomendations? I already have it rooted and CWM kernel installed - thanks!

This will be closed soon as all these "Best ROM" threads do for the simple reason that there is no such thing as a best ROM because everyone uses their phone differently. Only you can decide what is best for you by trying them out and finding which one works for the way you use it.

As stated, try them. Everyone usage is different.

OP, Sir as posted above recommendations are just that, the only true way to figure out what is best for you and your device or in this case your girlfriend. You should just try them and see what works, with so many variables involved with users and devices it is pointless to ask for recommendations. Example my wife and I have the same device, but for her the best ROM for battery life is stock rooted. As for me I use custom ROMs, same device, same carrier, but not same usage....or same apps.
BTW questions should be in the Q&A sections vice the General Sections.
Thank You.

There IS no best ROM and this type of conversation is frowned upon, which is why I've reported it to the mods.

huh? wtf m8? isn't it allowed to get suggestions either now? is it suddently bad to ask a question? ive asked this once before on my older phone and atleast, then i got good feedback. Wich led to Villainrom.
a report, "frowned upon"? explain it better.
well the best rom is just whatever you like the most i guess.. ;P
im using CM7 now , but i also miss somethings from samsung stock roms. hm.. but settled with cm7.

It's frowned upon because a lot of developers have been offended by this exact kind of thread. You didn't ask for suggestions - you asked "What IS the best ROM". The best ROM is the one you like best, after trying them all for yourself. Only a person that has tried every single available ROM can actually tell you what they honestly think is the best, and even then it's subjective - it comes down to what YOU want from your ROM, not someone else.
As for reporting this, I did so in the hope that a mod would close the thread. It wasn't a personal report against you - just the thread and its ilk.

Sorry if I came across a bit "shirty" earlier. I'm just getting a bit sick of some of the threads filling the SGS2 forums, and this is just one of those questions that people seem to ask on a daily basis. Nothing personal - just getting frustrated with it.

I come from another phone development.. help me

Hey guys, I come from the "Mytouch 3G Slide" development forum, and well..
You guys just have so much its getting me lost lol.
My question is:
with sooooooooooo many roms.. which are the most used and people like the most?
Something that has features to impress the person next to you, its fun, fast, and nice.
Where I come from there's mostly just Cyanogen Roms.. so yeah, im lost, you guys have a LOT of roms.

Look all I want to know is which ROM(s) are good.. You guys have tried them, I have NOT.
I want experience from people who have tried them.
I have rooted LOTS of devices..
Dont go assuming I can't root because I'm posting a simple question.
The ones I tried and that I like the most are:
CriskeloRom V34 (under Galaxy SII Android Development)
CheckROM Revolution V4 (under Galaxy SII Original Android Development)
I hope that helps
Good place to get started
Best way to get started with roms on the SGS2 is go visit here:

one mans good is another mans poor
just read through some of the more popular threads, you can see the number of replies in each one, and flash it if you want to. If you dont like it, flash something different.
Its not rocket science
I've used Checkrom, Criskelo Rom & Hyperdroid. Personal fave is hyperdroid rom. Fast, fluid and amazing battery life

ROMs poll

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.
Every quit your *****in'
ANYWAY
I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

But we already have a thread with everyone posting what version of Android and what rom they are using. Why do we need another?
SHOstock, is pretty fast and stable, and it still getting updates,, CM7 is awesome but they never fix the issue with the video codecs for our phone so if you have a lot of videos taken with your stock OS you will have to delete those from you SD card.

In the ops defense, the other one appears to be more based on Android version,, however you are correct that people go on to discuss the actual ROM they're running.
As for the people quoting Miami, well maybe they're just growing tired of his condescending posts
Back on topic, currently I'm using turkbey v 32 and like it
Sammy rebuilds or cm7/miu hrmmm cm7/miui k thx =]
UnNamed 1.3.2 for me works great. Went to 2.2.1, but the battery life wasn't as good, i did dig the ICS touches. Does anyone know if flashing the KH7 modem on UnNamed 2.2.1 will fix the wifi drain?

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

[Q] ROM/Kernel suggestions

Hi all, I have a Galaxy Nexus which has been rooted and running a custom ROM/Kernel and my girlfriend has just got a Galaxy S II. I will be rooting her phone and am looking for suggestions for which ROMs and kernels to use!
If possible a gingerbread suggestion and ICS suggestion would both be great and kernels for either.
She is really looking for better battery life so if you could bear that in mind when making a suggestion, that would be great!
So far I have found Resurrection remix ROM as that seems quite popular...
Thanks in advance!
There is no such thing as the "best rom or kernel for battery life you use your phone differently to everyone else and your phone came out of the factory slightly differently to everyone else's.
A rom or kernel that runs well for me might not run well for you.
I suggest you go the development sections of the forum & read the first few pages and the the last 10-20 pages of the particular threads devoted to different roms & kernels. That way you will get an idea of the features/pluses/minuses of each rom & kernel, and also see other users' experiences with that rom or kernel
Then you can test different roms & kernels for yourself to find one that works best for you.

I think you may have mis-read my OP. I only stated that I was looking for *better* battery life as I already know that each phone/battery is different.
I have already looked through the first few pages and like I said I found the Resurrection remix to be quite popular but I was also looking for any other suggestions as usually there will be only a handful of ROMs that the majority of people use because of their high quality etc.
The problem with going through testing different ROM/Kernel combinations is that (as stated before) the phone is not mine, it belongs to my girlfriend, so I will be unable to be there for most of the time that the phone is being used and if there are instabilities, I will not be able to see it.
This is the 2nd reason of why I made this topic, from getting suggestions, it will show the more popular ROMs/Kernels and also narrow down the search greatly.

You haven't actually provided any input here have you. The op has already said hes look at some threads and he just wants some input from others now?
Also, as you can see he said it is for his GF. I seriously doubt she is going to want him to test different ROM's and Kernels for her...
Anyway OP, i suggest Ressurection rom remix too, my friend has an S2 and speaks highly off it./
No idea about kernels though.
Really ?
And you obviously know that there is pretty much zero tolerance for these threads in SGS2 Q&A, don't you ?
Thought not.
And that's the entire sum of your contribution is it ?
Thought so.
Thanks for playing champ.

I fully agree with MistahBungle...You've been here for quite a while and yet you respond to this thread as if it was allowed...
To OP:
Try out every single rom that is out there and decide for your self which rom works for your girlfriend..Why the hell should we work for you? Do it your self...
Have a nice day....
Hi NAM_Killer
I understand your situation is slightly different from the other ROM suggestion threads (we have closed/deleted literally hundreds). My suggestion for you would to be to check this thread that we have allowed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515010
And to read the various kernel and ROM threads themselves. ALL of them will have users posting their experiences with battery life and stability. The information is there.

Recommendations?

I'm new to this forum and am simply overwhelmed with the number of custom roms out there!
So I'm asking the community what they would recommend as the best rom + kernel combination where battery life, stability and customability are concerned. I value battery life as the most important followed be stability and how much I am able to customise the rom.
And as a side question is it easier to flash roms using mobile Odin or through a custom recovery like cwm. There have been conflicting posts by members saying that cwm doesn't work well on the s3 and that rom manager also doesn't work well?
Thanks in advance!

recommended rom depends purely on your taste buddy. my preference(temasek build CM10.1+siyah kernel). there won't be any issues if you do the procedure correctly.

Morning/Afternoon/Evening all,
I am a noob, the registration video told me so. My self esteem is now well and truly slaughtered
I am looking around the forums, trying not to post as I know the folks here are hot on the idea of read first, if you can't find it, ask. If you still can't find it, Google it. If you still can't find it, you're probably delusional and have completely fabricated the very existence of the subject matter - which I completely agree with. This thread was relevant to me though as someone also curious on recommendations as to where best to start. I had tried using ROM Toolbox in the small hours of this morning to install Cyanogen and unfortunately got stuck in a 'boot loop' but sensibly had done the necessary to revert to stock as is/was.
Guessing you see this countless times, new folks with no clue coming here and asking a tonne of questions so I apologise in advance. Looking forward to reading and learning more but any further elaboration and opinion on Cyanogen would be much appreciated.
Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.
